A computational model is developed to investigate inelastic deformations of variable thickness rotating annular disks mounted on rigid shafts. The von Mises yield condition and its flow rule are combined with Swift’s hardening law to simulate nonlinear hardening material behavior. An efficient numerical solution procedure is designed and used throughout to handle the nonlinearities associated with the von Mises yield condition and the boundary condition at the shaft–annular disk interface. The results of the computations are verified by comparison with an analytical solution employing Tresca’s criterion available in the literature. Inelastic stresses and deformations are calculated for rotating variable thickness disks described by two different commonly used disk profile functions i.e. power and exponential forms. Plastic limit angular velocities for these disks are calculated for different values of the geometric and hardening parameters. These critical angular velocities are found to increase as the edge thickness of the disk reduces. Lower plastic limit angular velocities are obtained for disks made of nonlinearly hardening materials.  相似文献

Elastic and plastic limit angular velocities are calculated for rotating disks of variable thickness in power function form. Analytical solution is obtained and used to calculate elastic limit angular velocities of variable thickness rotating annular disks and annular disks with rigid inclusion. An efficient numerical solution procedure is designed and used to obtain the elastic limit angular velocities of variable thickness rotating solid disks. Von Mises yield criterion and its flow rule is used to estimate plastic limit angular velocities. Both linear and nonlinear hardening material behaviors are treated numerically. The results are verified by comparing with those of uniform thickness rotating solid disks available in the literature. Elastic and plastic limit angular velocities are found to increase with the reduction of the disk thickness at the edge as well as the reduction in the disk mass due to the shape of the profile.  相似文献

Analytical solutions for the stress distribution in rotating parabolic solid disks are obtained. The analysis is based on Tresca's yield criterion, its associated flow rule and linear strain hardening. It is shown that, the deformation behavior of the convex parabolic disk is similar to that of the uniform thickness disk, but in the case of concave parabolic solid disk, it is different. In the latter, the plastic core consists of three different plastic regions with different mathematical forms of the yield criteria. Accordingly, three different stages of elastic–plastic deformation occur. All these stages of elastic–plastic deformation are studied in detail. It is also shown mathematically that in the limiting case the parabolic disk solution reduces to the solution of rotating uniform thickness solid disk.  相似文献

A unified numerical method is developed in this article for the analysis of deformations and stresses in elastic–plastic rotating disks with arbitrary cross-sections of continuously variable thickness and arbitrarily variable density made of nonlinear strain-hardening materials. The method is based on a polynomial stress–plastic strain relation, deformation theory in plasticity and Von Mises’ yield condition. The governing equation is derived from the basic equations of the rotating disks and solved using the Runge–Kutta algorithm. The proposed method is applied to calculate the deformations and stresses in various rotating disks. These disks include solid disks with constant thickness and constant density, annular disks with constant thickness and constant density, nonlinearly variable thickness and nonlinearly variable density, linearly tapered thickness and linearly variable density, and a combined section of continuously variable thickness and constant density. The computed results are compared to those obtained from the finite element method and the existing approaches. A very good agreement is found between this research and the finite element analysis. Due to the simplicity, effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method, it is especially suitable for the analysis of various rotating disks.  相似文献

The paper proposes a method, based on perfect-plasticity and perturbation theories, for instability analysis of an annular flat disk tightly set on a shaft with no interference fit. The perturbed elastoplastic state of the rotating disk is analyzed by determining the stress–strain state of a fixed elastic annular plate under in-plane loading. A characteristic equation of the first order for the critical radius of the plastic zone in the disk subject to internal pressure is derived. The critical rotation rate is calculated for different parameters of the disk  相似文献

Elastic solutions for axisymmetric rotating disks made of functionally graded material with variable thickness are presented. The material properties and disk thickness profile are assumed to be represented by two power-law distributions. In the case of hollow disk, based on the form of the power-law distribution for the mechanical properties of the constituent components and the thickness profile function, both analytical and semi-analytical solutions are given under free–free and fixed-free boundary conditions. For the solid disk, only semi-analytical solution is presented. The effects of the material grading index and the geometry of the disk on the stresses and displacements are investigated. It is found that a functionally graded rotating disk with parabolic or hyperbolic convergent thickness profile has smaller stresses and displacements compared with that of uniform thickness. It is seen that the maximum radial stress for the solid functionally graded disk with parabolic thickness profile is not at the centre like uniform thickness disk. Results of this paper suggest that a rotating functionally graded disk with parabolic concave or hyperbolic convergent thickness profile can be more efficient than the one with uniform thickness.  相似文献

The distribution of stress, displacement and plastic strain in a rotating elastic–plastic solid disk of variable thickness in a power function form is investigated. The analysis is based on Tresca's yield condition, its associated flow rule and linear strain hardening material behavior. An analytical solution is obtained and numerical results are presented for different values of the geometric parameters. The validity of the solution is demonstrated by comparing the results with those for a uniform thickness disk available in the literature.  相似文献

This article is concerned with general analytic solutions of flows in cylindrical and annular pipes subject to an arbitrary time-dependent pressure gradient and arbitrary steady initial flow. The fluids considered are Newtonian, Maxwellian and Oldroyd B. Graphical results for (blood) flow in a dog’s femoral artery are presented.  相似文献

A full field solution, based on small deformation, three-dimensional elastic–plastic finite element analysis of the centrally cracked thin disk under mode I loading has been performed. The solution for the stresses under small-scale yielding and lo!cally fully plastic state has been compared with the HRR plane stress solution. At the outside of the 3D zone, within a distance of rσo/J=18, HRR dominance is maintained in the presence of a significant amount of compressive stress along the crack flanks. Ahead of this region, the HRR field overestimate the stresses. These results demonstrate a completely reversed state of stress in the near crack front compared to that in the plane strain case. The combined effect of geometry and finite thickness of the specimen on elastic–plastic crack tip stress field has been explored. To the best of our knowledge, such an attempt in the published literature has not been made yet. For the qualitative assessment of the results some of the field parameters have been compared to the available experimental results of K, gives a fair estimate of the crack opening stress near the crack front at a distance of order 10−2 in. On the basis of this analysis, the Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics approach has been adopted in analyzing the fatigue crack extension experiments performed in the disk (Part II).  相似文献

This paper considers the plastic limit state of a thin hollow axisymmetric disk subjected to thermomechanical loading with a uniform pressure distribution on the inner contour and a temperature increasing during deformation. A semi-analytical solution of the formulated boundary-value problem is obtained. Qualitative features of the behavior of the solution with a loss of the load-carrying capacity of the disk are investigated.  相似文献

A two-component (air-water) annular flow model is presented requiring only flow rates, absolute pressure, temperature, and tube diameter. Film thicknesses (base film and wave height) are calculated from a critical film thickness model. Modeled pressure gradient is weighted by wave intermittency to compute average pressure gradient. Film flow rate and wave velocity are estimated using the universal velocity profile in the waves and a piecewise linear profile in the base film. For vertical flow, mean absolute errors for film thickness, wave velocity, and pressure gradient are 9%, 9%, and 19%, respectively. In horizontal flow, mean absolute errors for pressure gradient, base film thickness, and disturbance wave velocity are 17%, 10%, and 14%, respectively, on par with those from single-behavior models that require additional film thickness or other data as inputs.  相似文献

Debonding of rigid inclusions embedded in the elastic–plastic aluminum alloy Al 2090-T3 is analyzed numerically using a unit cell model taking full account of finite strains. The cell is subjected to overall biaxial plane strain tension and periodical boundary conditions are applied to represent arbitrary orientations of plastic anisotropy. Plastic anisotropy is considered using two phenomenological anisotropic yield criteria, namely Hill [Proceedings of the Royal Society of London A 193 (1948) 281] and Barlat et al. [International Journal of Plasticity 7 (1991) 693]. For this material plastic anisotropy delays debonding compared to plastic isotropy except for the case of Hill’s yield function when the tensile directions coincided with the principal axes of anisotropy. For some inclinations of the principal axes of anisotropy relative to the tensile directions, the stress strain responses are identical but the deformation modes are mirror images of each other.  相似文献

This paper presents an elastoplastic model for unsaturated rocks and concrete. The formulation is based on the poroplastic theory of porous media. The effect of water saturation on plastic deformation is described through a generalised effective stress. Plastic shrinkage and swelling due to suction change are taken into account. All model’s parameters can be determined from specific laboratory tests. Comparisons between numerical simulations and experimental data are provided for a claystone.  相似文献

A semi-analytical solution is obtained for a rotating stress-free edge disk of constant thickness and density. In the plastic range, the Hill’s quadratic orthotropic yield criterion is adopted. In the elastic range, the Hooke’s law holds with thermal effects included. The analysis of singularities performed may be used for correct implementation of numerical codes and preliminary engineering design.  相似文献

Il'iushin's postulate is restated within a general thermodynamic strain space formulation of rate independent plasticity by means of plastic internal variables. This yields a general expression in terms of appropriate thermodynamic potentials. A combination of a thermodynamic condition, derived from the general development, with the results of Il'iushin's postulate, furnishes explicit conditions on elasto-plastic coupling. A specific example is presented, with the plastic work being the only plastic internal variable. Necessary and sufficient consitbns on the elastic moduli and their change with plastic deformation are derived, for the thermodynamic condition to be satisfied.  相似文献

The present paper proposes a simplified model for calculating hydrodynamic lubrication film thickness in elastoplastic line contacts. According to the Saint-Venant’s principle, the pressure in the contact is taken as uniformly distributed, this gives the contact surface elastic deformations in the inlet zone far away from the contact center close to real ones while gives those close to the contact center greater than real ones. This treatment is validated for hydrodynamic lubricated elastic contacts for relatively light loads and high rolling speeds. It gives the film thickness at the contact center a little higher than that calculated based on the real elastic model. The treatment is extended to a hydrodynamic lubricated elastoplastic line contact. The contact surfaces in the inlet zone are assumed as elastic and their deformations are calculated based on the uniform pressure distribution in the elastoplastic contact area. An inlet zone analysis is taken for obtaining the calculating equation of the hydrodynamic film thickness at the contact center. The equation overestimates the central film thickness but gives a satisfactory film thickness prediction for the heavy load which gives significant plastic deformations in the elastoplastic contact. It is found that when the load is lighter than 0.6 w pc , the contact can be taken as elastic when calculating the central film thickness, while when the load is heavier than 0.6 w pc , the contact can be taken as fully plastic; Here w pc is the critical load for the contact fully plastic deformation. The plastic deformation in an elastoplastic line contact is found to reduce the hydrodynamic lubrication film thickness in the contact. This reduction is greater for higher rolling speeds and heavier loads. However, it is significantly dropped with increasing surface hardness.  相似文献

The non-linear deformation of a thin annular plate subjected to circumferentially distributed bending moments is studied. A von Kármán plate model is adopted to formulate the equations of motion. Free–free boundary conditions have been applied at both inner and outer edges. The matrix formulation of the Differential Quadrature Method is used to discretise and solve the governing equations. Linear analysis predicts that the annular disk deforms axisymmetrically into a spherical dome. However, the proposed non-linear analysis shows that a symmetry breaking bifurcation may occur after which the linear solution becomes unstable and the plate transitions into a non-axisymmetric cylindrical deformation. This is the case when at least one of two parameters reaches a critical value. These parameters are the non-dimensionalised ratio between applied moment and bending stiffness and the ratio between inner and outer radius. Furthermore, it is noted that free-free boundary conditions and circumferentially distributed bending moments do not break the circular symmetry of the annular disk. Hence, the principal axes of curvature in the deformed configuration do not have a preferred orientation. Therefore, the present work describes a shell possessing infinite identical equilibria, having different yet no favoured direction and, hence, links to previous researches on neutrally stable structures.  相似文献
