The microstructure of organogels formed upon the addition of tiny amounts of water to a solution of lecithin in fatty acid esters (viz. isopropylpalmitate and ethyloleate) was investigated by means of molecular self-diffusion measurements. In both systems lecithin and water form disconnected cylindrical reverse micelles. The ternary phase map for the lecithin/water/isopropylpalmitate has been investigated in detail. The organogel exists in a narrow region close to the lecithin-oil binary axis; for higher water content equilibrium between lamellae and reverse micelles is found. Lamellar phase occupies the lecithin-rich region, close to the lecithin corner (with the exception of a small island of hexagonal phase) and coexists with neat water close to the water-lecithin axis. The remaining part of the phase map shows the three-phase coexistence of water, oil, and lamellar phase.  相似文献

Percolative phenomena in lecithin reverse micelles: the role of water   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
 The role played by the solvation water molecules on the macroscopically observed sol–gel transition in lecithin/cyclohexane/water reverse micelles is investigated by quasielastic neutron scattering, dielectric relaxation and conductivity measurements. The experimental results are juxtaposed to those from spherical Aerosol OT reverse micelles. It is shown how the results from lecithin-based system can be interpreted only assuming that, in contrast to Aerosol OT systems, the water molecules are entrapped at the interfaces without coalescing into an inner water pool. It is suggested that, in the case of lecithin, the solvation water can induce a change in the surface curvature, in such a way promoting the formation of branch points. Such a hypothesis is supported by the temperature dependence of the conductivity which agrees with the hypothesis of an intermicellar bond percolation. The investigation of the structures imposed by an external electric field is also studied. The observed electrorheological behaviour seems to confirm the existence of a percolated transient network in the gel phase. Received: 21 March 2001 Accepted: 24 August 2001  相似文献

The formation, properties, and structure of discontinuous cubic phase in the pseudo-ternary system consisting of N'-carboxyethyl N'-hydroxyethyl N-aminoethyl dodecylamide (imidazoriniumbetain), sodium and triethanol amine salt of polyoxyethylene (1.5 mol) myristyl ether sulfate, oleic acid, decane, and water at a constant surfactant/water ratio of 4/6 were studied by means of small-angle X-ray scattering, freeze-fracture transmission electron microscopy, static light scattering, and dynamic rheology to gain an insight in its origin and interrelation with neighboring phases. It was found that the cubic phase occupied a rather wide region in a constructed ternary phase diagram, including from 25 to 45% of decane. Its properties and structural parameters varied with changing the oil content. The decane addition caused the swelling of spherical micellar aggregates. This resulted in an increase of their diameter up to 35 nm, which was ca. nine times larger than that of the initial micelles, and micellar volume fraction (packing fraction) up to 72 vol. %, which was close to the theoretically possible value of 74 vol. % for the close-packed spherical particles. The cubic phase was surrounded by a micellar L1 phase from the water-rich side (separated by a short two-phase region), two-phase region (cubic + oil) from the oil-rich side, and a lamellar phase from the surfactant-rich side. A transition from the L1 phase to the cubic state at the packing fraction of 60 vol. % was caused by an increase in the packing density of micellar aggregates, occurring with the decane addition. When it reached 72 vol. %, the oil started forming a separated phase owing to the inability of micelles to dissolve it. The important observation is that the adjacent phase from the surfactant-rich side was a lamellar one made up of flat bilayers. The preliminary data showed that the lamellar phase coexisted with cylindrical micelles in the intermediate two-phase region separating the cubic and lamellar phases.  相似文献

The activity and stability of Chromobacterium viscosum lipase (glycerolester hydrolase, EC 3.1.1.3)-catalyzed olive oil hydrolysis in sodium bis (2-ethyl-1-hexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT)/isooctane reverse micelles is increased appreciably when low molecular weight polyethylene glycol (PEG 400) is added to the reverse micelles. To understand the effect of PEG 400 on the phase behavior of the reverse micellar system, the phase diagram of AOT/PEG 400/water/isooctane system was studied. The influences of relevant parameters on the catalytic activity in AOT/PEG 400 reverse micelles were investigated and compared with the results in the simple AOT reverse micelles. In the presence of PEG 400, the linear decreasing trend of the lipase activity with AOT concentration, which is observed in the simple AOT reverse micelles, disappeared. Enzyme entrapped in AOT/PEG reverse micelles was very stable, retaining>75% of its initial activity after 60 d, whereas the half-life in simple AOT reverse micelles was 38 d. The kinetics parameter maximum velocity (V max)exhibiting the temperature dependence and the activation energy obtained by Arrhenius plot was suppressed significantly by the addition of PEG 400.  相似文献

Self-diffusion measurements in microemulsion systems composed of a naturally occurring soybean lecithin mixture, an aqueous phase, either water or a 1% aqueous PDADMAC solution, and isooctane were accomplished by pulsed field gradient (PFG) 1H NMR spectroscopy at oil dilution lines of low and intermediate water/lecithin ratios. The concentration-dependent diffusion data reveal water-in-oil (W/O) reverse micellar aggregates with dimensions on the nanometer scale being slightly smaller at low water content. With increasing micellar volume fractions, both hydrodynamic as well as direct interactions between particles significantly slow aggregate diffusion. The surfactant mean square displacements (msd's) in dilute and concentrated polymer-free systems studied as a function of diffusion time (20-1000 ms) are characterized by a crossover from Gaussian diffusion, due to slow aggregate motion, to anomalously enhanced diffusion, due to fast surface-bulk surfactant exchange at intermediate times revealing weak, barrier-controlled adsorption behavior. Upon addition of the polycation PDADMAC, the diffusion characteristics change to exclusively superdiffusive behavior with surfactant msd scaling with time as t(3/2) over the entire time range studied. This is caused by surfactant molecules performing Levy walks along the surface of reverse micelles mediated by the dilute bulk. The bulk-mediated surface diffusion is a consequence of the diffusion-controlled micelle-bulk exchange dynamics induced by interactions of PDADMAC with surfactant headgroups.  相似文献

While lecithin alone can form spherical or ellipsoidal reverse micelles in oil, we found that urea can promote the growth of lecithin reverse worm-like micelles in oil. In a mixed system of urea and lecithin, the urea binds to the phosphate group of lecithin, thus reducing the interface curvature of the molecular assembly and inducing the formation of reverse worm-like micelles. The regions in which these micelles form increased with lecithin concentration. In addition, the zero-shear viscosity (η 0) of the reverse worm-like micelles rapidly increased upon the addition of urea, reaching a maximum of 2 million times the viscosity of n-decane. We examined the change in η 0 in detail by performing dynamic viscoelasticity measurements. Values for η 0 increased with urea concentration because the disentanglement time of reverse worm-like micelles increased with micellar growth.  相似文献

The influence of chain branching on the phase transition parameters and structures of the homologous series of 1-(x-methylpalmitoyl)-2-hexadecyllecithins in the water-saturated two-phase region (50 wt.% water) were studied by differentialscanning-calorimetry as a function of the position x of methyl branching. With increasing x a linear decrease in the enthalpies and alternating temperatures of main transition were observed. The phase diagram of the ternary system 1-(3-methyl-palmitoyl)-2-hexadecyllecithin/1,2-dipalmitoyllecithin/water (50 wt.% water) showed that both components are completely miscible within the high-temperature phase (L -phase). However, in the low-temperature phase (gel phase), the components are partially miscible only. It follows that gel phases with interdigitated chains and those with tilted chains are not completely miscible. The phase diagram of the ternary system 1,2-di-(8-methylpalmitoyl)-lecithin/1,2-dipalmitoyllecithin/water (50 wt.% water) showed that both components are completely miscible within the high-temperature phase and low-temperature phase. Within the concentration range between the mole fraction x=0.91 and x=0.97, a drop-like course in the phase diagram was obtained.  相似文献

We report a novel method for forming reverse worm-like micelles in nonpolar organic solvents. This method requires the addition of trace amounts of a sucrose fatty acid ester (SFE), in addition to lecithin and a nonpolar organic solvent. The region in which these micelles formed increased with lecithin concentration and hydrophobicity of SFE. In addition, zero-shear viscosity (η 0) of the reverse worm-like micelles increased rapidly upon addition of SFE, reaching 1–3 million times the viscosity of n-decane. Furthermore, the change in η 0 was examined in detail by performing dynamic viscoelasticity measurements. Results showed that the η 0 of solution increased upon addition of SFE because both the length and number of reverse worm-like micelles increased along with SFE concentration.  相似文献

The partial phase diagram of D2O/n-octyl-beta-D-alkyl-glucoside(C8G1)/n-octane has been determined at T=25 degrees C. The diagram contains a funnel-shaped micellar phase originating from the water corner of the phase diagram D2O/C8G1 with the stem forming a narrow three-phase region, in which the three phases in equilibrium are two microemulsions of similar composition and an excess oil phase. The microemulsions have been characterized with NMR self-diffusion measurements. At high surfactant concentration and no or low n-octane content, branched micelles exist. As the n-octane content is increased, discrete micelles are formed. Upon further addition of n-octane, the phase separation into two microemulsion phases is induced. Possible mechanisms causing the phase separation are discussed. The phase diagram of D2O/(C8G1)/1-octanol has been determined at 25 degrees C. Ten different phase regions were identified. The phases have been characterized with SAXS and deuterium heavy water NMR, and the swelling of the lamellar phase was investigated with SAXS.  相似文献

We report a new route for forming reverse wormlike micelles (i.e., long, flexible micellar chains) in nonpolar organic liquids such as cyclohexane and n-decane. This route involves the addition of a bile salt (e.g., sodium deoxycholate) in trace amounts to solutions of the phospholipid lecithin. Previous recipes for reverse wormlike micelles have usually required the addition of water to induce reverse micellar growth; here, we show that bile salts, due to their unique "facially amphiphilic" structure, can play a role analogous to that of water and promote the longitudinal aggregation of lecithin molecules into reverse micellar chains. The formation of transient entangled networks of these reverse micelles transforms low-viscosity lecithin organosols into strongly viscoelastic fluids. The zero-shear viscosity increases by more than 5 orders of magnitude, and it is the molar ratio of bile salt to lecithin that controls the viscosity enhancement. The growth of reverse wormlike micelles is also confirmed by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) experiments on these fluids.  相似文献

Droplet sizes of oil/water (O/W) nanoemulsions prepared by the phase inversion temperature (PIT) method, in the water/C16E6/mineral oil system, have been compared with those given by a theoretical droplet model, which predicts a minimum droplet size. The results show that, when the phase inversion was started from either a single-phase microemulsion (D) or a two-phase W+D equilibrium, the resulting droplet sizes were close to those predicted by the model, whereas, when emulsification was started from W+D+O or from W+D+Lalpha (Lalpha = lamellar liquid crystal) equilibria, the difference between the measured and predicted values was much higher. The structural changes produced during the phase inversion process have been investigated by the 1H-PFGSE-NMR technique, monitoring the self-diffusion coefficients for each component as a function of temperature. The results have confirmed the transition from a bicontinuous D microemulsion at the hydrophile-lipophile balance (HLB) temperature to oil nanodroplet dispersion in water when it is cooled to lower temperatures.  相似文献

The ternary phase diagram for the orange essential oil (OEO)/sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT)/water system was constructed at 25 °C. It indicates a large single phase region, comprising an isotropic water-in-oil (W/O) microemulsion (ME) phase (L2), a liquid crystal (LC) (lamellar or hexagonal) and a large unstable emulsion phase that separates in two phases of normal and reverse micelles (L1 and L2). In this communication the properties of the ME are investigated by viscosity, electric conductivity and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) indicating that the isotropic ME phase exhibits different behaviors depending on composition. At low water content low viscous “dry” surfactant structures are formed, whereas at higher water content higher viscous water droplets are formed. The experimental data allow the determination of the transition from “dry” to the water droplet structures within the L2 phase. SAXS analyses have also been performed for selected LC samples.  相似文献

Lecithin is a very useful biosurfactant. In this work, the effects of compressed CO 2 on the critical micelle concentration (cmc) of lecithin in cyclohexane and solubilization of water, lysozyme, and PdCl 2 in the lecithin reverse micelles were studied. The micropolarity and pH value of the polar cores of the reverse micelles with and without CO 2 were also investigated. It was found that CO 2 could reduce the cmc of the micellar solution and enhance the capacity of the reverse micelles to solubilize water, the biomolecule, and the inorganic salt significantly. Moreover, the water pools could not be formed in the reverse micelles in the absence of CO 2 because of the limited amount of water solubilized. However, the water pools could be formed in the presence of CO 2 because large amounts of water could be solubilized. All of these provide more opportunity for effective utilization of this green surfactant. The possible mechanism for tuning the properties of the reverse micelles by CO 2 is discussed.  相似文献

Dry reverse micelles of AOT in isooctane spontaneously undergo a microstructural transition to an organogel upon the addition of a phenolic dopant, p-chlorophenol. This microstructural evolution has been studied through a combination of light scattering, small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), NMR, and rheology. Several equilibrium stages between the system of dry reverse micelles of AOT and a 1:1 AOT/p-chlorophenol (molar ratio) gel in isooctane have been examined. To achieve this, p-chlorophenol is added progressively to the dilute solutions of AOT in isooctane, and this concentration series is then analyzed. The dry micelles of AOT in isooctane do not undergo any detectable structural change up to a certain p-chlorophenol concentration. Upon a very small increment in the concentration of p-chlorophenol beyond this "threshold" concentration, large strandlike aggregates are observed which then evolve to the three-dimensional gel network.  相似文献

The primary objective of the present study is to understand how the different nonionic surfactants modify the anisotropic interface of cationic water-in-oil (W/O) microemulsions and thus influences the catalytic efficiency of surface-active enzymes. Activity of Chromobacterium viscosum lipase (CV-lipase) was estimated in several mixed reverse micelles prepared from CTAB and four different nonionic surfactants, Brij-30, Brij-92, Tween-20, and Tween-80/water/isooctane/n-hexanol at different z ([cosurfactant]/[surfactants]) values, pH 6 (20 mM phosphate), 25 degrees C across a varying range of W0 ([water]/[surfactants]) using p-nitrophenyl-n-octanoate as the substrate. Lipase activity in mixed reverse micelles improved maximum up to approximately 200% with increasing content of non-ionic surfactants compared to that in CTAB probably due to the reduced positive charge density as well as plummeted n-hexanol (competitive inhibitor of lipase) content at the interfacial region of cationic W/O microemulsions. The highest activity of lipase was observed in CTAB (10 mM) + Brij-30 (40 mM)/isooctane/n-hexanol)/water system, k2 = 913 +/- 5 cm3 g-1 s-1. Interestingly, this observed activity is even higher than that obtained in sodium bis (2-ethyl-1-hexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT)/n-heptane reverse micelles, the most popular W/O microemulsion in micellar enzymology. To ascertain the influence of non-ionic surfactants in improving the activity of surface-active enzymes is not limited to lipase only, we have also investigated the catalytic activity of Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) in different mixed W/O microemulsions. Here also following the similar trend as observed for lipase, HRP activity enhanced up to 2.5 fold with increasing concentration of nonionic surfactants. Finally, the enzyme activity was correlated with the change in the microenvironment of mixed reverse micelles by steady-state fluorescence study using 8-anilino-1-napthalenesulphonic acid (ANS) as probe.  相似文献

A sodium 1,4-bis[(2-ethylhexyl)oxy]-1,4-dioxybutane-2-sulfonate (NaАОТ)–water–isooctane three-component system is calculated by the molecular-dynamics method. In a wide range of relative water contents w 0, reverse micelles are obtained with different morphologies: single spherical and cylindrical micelles and their spatial networks. It is shown that w 0 and surfactant concentration are the main shape-generating factors. The data obtained are in good agreement with previous results of simulations and experimental data.  相似文献

The phase diagram at 298.2 and 281.2 K for the ternary system water-butylammonium decanoate-decane has been determined. An isotropic solution phase extending from the water corner to the decane corner was obtained without any macroscopic phase separation. A large two-phase region extending from the water-decane axis was also observed. In addition to these phases, an anisotropic and optically birefrigent liquid crystalline phase is formed below 290.3 K. Sound velocity, conductivity, and viscosity measurements were used successfully for studies of microstructural transitions in the isotropic solution phase. From these measurements, it was concluded that a transition from normal micelles to reverse micelles takes place while passing through a bicontinuous region.  相似文献

The self-assembly behavior of a commercial mixture of polyglycerol fatty acid esters (PGE) and water is investigated as a function of temperature and surfactant content. The phase diagram of this pseudo-binary mixture was characterized using a combination of cross-polarized light and freeze-fracture electron microscopy (cryo-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Our experiments show that the morphology of the supramolecular aggregates is lamellar and present in the form of a continuous or dispersed phase (multilamellar vesicles) depending on the water content of the system. Under the effect of temperature, the short- and long-range order of the bimolecular layers successively changes from a biphasic surfactant dispersion to a lamellar liquid-crystalline (Lalpha) and a stable lamellar gel phase (Lbeta) upon cooling; this transition is found to be irreversible. Formation of the lamellar aggregates can be related to the average molecular structure and shape factor of PGE. The stability of the resulting gel phase (Lbeta) appears to be due to the presence of small amounts of unreacted ionic co-surfactant, namely, fatty acid soaps, in this per se nonionic commercial mixture.  相似文献
