LuAG:Ce single crystals with various activator concentrations were grown by the vertical Bridgman technique. Characterization of crystals was done in terms of actual doping level, macroscopic defects and degree of non-equivalent substitutions by Lu for Al in octahedral lattice sites. Scintillation measurements were performed using 2×2×8 mm3 shaped samples with Ce concentration in the range 0.05–0.55 at%. Essential improvement of performance was demonstrated in samples containing ≥0.2 at% of Ce; the light yield measured in LuAG:Ce (0.55 at%) was about 26000 ph/MeV, or close to that of LSO. 相似文献

A mercury indium telluride (MIT) ingot was grown by the vertical Bridgman method. The defects in MIT crystals were characterized by the chemical etching method. A defect etchant for MIT crystals was developed. The etch pits of dislocations, microcracks and boundary was observed by scanning electron microscopy. It was elucidated that the etch pits density of dislocations of MIT wafers was about 4×105 cm−2. Te and In reduced at the grain boundaries, but were homogeneously distributed within the grains in the as-grown MIT crystals. The distribution of In in MIT crystals along the growth direction and radial direction was analyzed by electronic probe microscopy. It was found that In concentration was higher in the initial part and lower in the final part of the MIT ingot, which indicated that the segregation coefficient of In in MIT crystals was 1.15. The radial In concentration increased from the center to edge of the wafers and homogeneous in the middle part. 相似文献

The tin sulfides compounds SnS and SnS2 nanoflakes were prepared by the microwave-assisted polyol synthetic method. The as-prepared nanoscale flakes were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman spectra. High purity TeO2 crystals are produced to be used for the search for the neutrinoless double beta decay of 130Te. Dedicated production lines for raw material synthesis, crystal growth, and surface processing were built compliant with radio-purity constraints specific to rare event physics experiments. High sensitivity measurements of radio-isotope concentrations in raw materials, reactants, consumables, ancillaries, and intermediary products used for TeO2 crystals production are reported. Indications are given on the crystals perfection and how it is achieved and maintained in a large scale production process. Production and certification protocols are presented and resulting ready-to-use TeO2 crystals are described. 相似文献

High-purity semi-insulating CdTe crystals have been successfully grown by encapsulated (B2O3) Bridgman technique. The procedure strongly limits component losses allowing the achievement of stoichiometry control material and keeps a low level of impurity contamination as shown by mass spectroscopy analysis data. When strictly stoichiometry-controlled and high-purity polycrystalline source material has been used, high-resistivity crystals have been obtained without any intentional doping. EPD values in the range of 1–3×104 cm−2 have been observed in a wide region of the crystals. Luminescence spectroscopy confirms the purity and good structural quality of the material. The proposed method avoids the technical problems posed by the High Pressure Bridgman technique and fits the requirements for CdTe/CdZnTe crystals large-scale production. 相似文献

Morphological, surface and crystallographic analyses of titanosilicate ETS-4 products, with diverse habits ranging from spherulitic particles composed of submicron crystallites to large single crystals, are presented. Pole figures revealed that crystal surfaces with a-, b- and c- axes corresponded to 110, 010 and 001 directions, respectively. Thus, technologically important 8-membered ring pores and titania chains in ETS-4 run along the b-axis of single crystals and terminate at the smallest crystal face. Height of the spiral growth steps observed on 1 0 0 and 0 0 1 surfaces corresponded to the interplanar spacings associated with their crystallographic orientation, and is equivalent to the thickness of building units that form the ETS-4 framework. Data suggest that the more viscous synthesis mixtures, with a large driving force for growth, increased the two- and three-dimensional nucleation, while limiting the transport of nutrients to the growth surface. These conditions increase the tendency for stacking fault formation on 1 0 0 surfaces and small angle branching, which eventually results in spherulitic growth. The growth of high quality ETS-4 single crystals (from less viscous synthesis mixtures) occurred at lower surface nucleation rates. Data suggest that these high quality, large crystals grew due to one-dimensional nucleation at spiral hillocks, and indicate that under these conditions un-faulted growth is preferred. 相似文献

A new organic compound of bis-glycine maleate was synthesized in the alkaline medium of 10% ammonium hydroxide solution. The bulk single crystals of Bis-Glycine Maleate (BGM) have been grown by slow cooling method. The grown crystals were characterized by employing single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared, optical absorption spectral studies and thermo gravimetric analysis. The microhardness studies confirmed that the BGM has a fairly high Vicker’s hardness number value (41 kg mm−2) in comparison to other organic NLO crystals. Second harmonic generation efficiency of the crystal measured by Kurtz–Perry powder method using Nd:YAG laser is found to be comparable to that of potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP). Germanium (1 1 1)-oriented crystals have been grown by the vertical Bridgman technique, in both detached and attached configurations. Microstructural characterization of these crystals has been performed using synchrotron white beam X-ray topography (SWBXT) and double axis X-ray diffraction. Dislocation densities were measured from X-ray topographs obtained using the reflection geometry. For detached-grown crystals, the dislocation density is on the order of 104 cm−2 in the seed region, and decreases in the direction of growth to less than 103 cm−2, and in some crystals reaches less than 102 cm−2. For crystals grown in the attached configuration, dislocation densities were on the order of 104 cm−2 in the middle of the crystals, increasing to greater than 105 cm−2 near the edge. The measured dislocation densities are in excellent agreement with etch pit density (EPD) results. Broadening and splitting of the rocking curve linewidths was observed in the vicinity of subgrain boundaries identified by X-ray topography in some of the attached-grown crystal wafers. The spatial distribution of rocking curve linewidths across the wafers corresponds to the spatial distribution of defect densities measured in the X-ray topographs and EPD micrographs. 相似文献

The density and the surface tension of molten calcium fluoride have been measured in the temperature range from 1690 to 1790 K by an improved Archimedian method and a ring depressing technique (J. Crystal Growth 187 (1998) 391), respectively. The ring depressing technique was demonstrated as an effective technique to measure the surface tension in comparison with the conventional ring pulling technique. The density varied with the temperature change corresponding to a linear relationship: ρ=3.767−6.94×10−4T (K). The density of the CaF2 melt at the melting point is 2.594 g/cm3, which is equal to the result obtained by Shiraishi and Watanabe (Bull. Res. Inst. Miner. Dressing Metal, Tohoku Univ. 34 (1978) 1), but the temperature coefficient of the density is different from the results obtained by other investigators. The thermal expansion coefficient of calcium fluoride melt linearly increases with temperature heating. The surface tension of molten calcium fluoride indicates a negative linear relationship as a function of the melt temperature: γ(T)=442.4−0.0816×T(K) (mN/m). The surface tension measured using the ring depressing technique is larger than those results obtained by other techniques. 相似文献

Using the method of heat field symmetry control [5], large high quality LBO crystals of more than 1.3 kg have been grown. In accordance with the so-called Curie principle, rhombic LBO crystals were grown in the heat field of the same symmetry. Elements of excellent optical homogeneity with diameters up to 50 mm were used for frequency doubling of high energy 1053 nm laser beam. The effect of the supply of depleted Si solute elements on the compositional variation in the Si-rich SiGe bulk crystals was studied using the method which was used to grow Ge-rich SiGe single crystals with a uniform composition. By selecting the proper pulling rate, we can obtain Si-rich Si1−xGex bulk crystals with uniform composition of x=0.1 without using the supply mechanism of depleted Si solute elements. When the supply mechanism of Si solute elements was used, the initial composition in Si-rich SiGe crystals can be much more easily determined by controlling the growth temperature than that in Ge-rich crystals because the Si seed crystal is not melted down. The supply of Si solute elements is very effective to change the compositional variation even for Si-rich SiGe crystals. 相似文献

The influence of the presence of BaO impurity on the optical absorption, radiation hardness and thermally stimulated luminescence of BaF2 has been investigated. The presence of oxygen impurity gives rise to three absorption bands in the UV region, peaking around 220, 280 and 335 nm. Further, the impurity is found to be detrimental to crystal hardness against ionizing radiations. The thermally stimulated luminescence (TSL) has been studied from gamma-irradiated crystals containing different fractions of BaO impurity. Four prominent glow peaks around 100°C (peak I), 150°C (peak II), 220°C (peak III) and 290°C (peak IV) are observed for crystals containing BaO impurity concentrations lower than 0.5% (by wt). For crystals containing higher impurity concentrations, two additional peaks around 75°C and 260°C are also observed. The kinetics of TSL emission is observed to be of first order, implying that the absorption and the emission centers responsible for TSL are the same. The normalized TSL output for peak I is found to vary linearly with the concentration of oxide impurity. This fact can be utilized to detect the presence of minute amounts of oxygen in BaF2 lattice, which is crucial to the growth of crystals exhibiting high radiation hardness. 相似文献

The phase equilibrium and the crystallization process of lead iodide (PbI2) melt have been primarily investigated according to the lead–iodine phase diagram. It is found that the iodine evaporation and the segregated lead deposition are the two important factors that affect the PbI2 crystal quality. The new method of Pulling U-type quartz growth ampoule has been made to impede the decomposition of PbI2 and the vaporization and condensation of iodine. An orange and translucent PbI2 single crystal of large size was obtained by the improved growth method, i.e. U-type ampoule pulling. Resistivity of the as-grown crystal is up to 4×1011 Ω cm, and IR transmission is up to 45% in the region from 7800 to 450 cm−1. Therefore, the improved growth method is a promising convenient new method for the growth of high quality PbI2 crystals. 相似文献

Neodymium phosphate single crystals, NdPO4, have been grown by a flux growth method using Li2CO3-2MoO3 as a flux. The as-grown crystals were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction(XRPD), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TG) techniques. The results show that the as-grown crystals were well crystallized. The crystal was stable over the temperature range from 26 to 1200 °C in N2. The specific heat of NdPO4 crystal at room temperature was 0.41 J/g °C. The absorption and the fluorescence spectra of NdPO4 crystal were also measured at room temperature. 相似文献

Pb[(Zn1/3Nb2/3)0.91Ti0.09]O3 (PZNT91/9) single crystals were grown by a modified Bridgman method directly from melt using an allomeric Pb[(Mg1/3Nb2/3)0.69Ti0.31]O3 (PMNT69/31) single crystal as a seed. X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement confirmed that the as-grown PZNT91/9 single crystals are of pure perovskite structure. Electrical properties and thermal stabilization of PZNT91/9 crystals grown directly from melt exhibit different characters from those of PZNT91/9 crystals grown from flux, although segregation and the variation of chemical composition are not seriously confirmed by X-ray fluorescence analysis (XPS). The [0 0 1]-oriented PZNT91/9 crystals cut from the middle part of the as-grown crystal boules exhibit broad dielectric-response peaks at around 105 °C, accompanied by apparent frequency dispersion. The values of piezoelectric constant d33, remnant polarization Pr, and induced strain are about 1800–2200 pC/N, 38.8 μC/cm2, and 0.3%, respectively, indicating that the quality of PZNT crystals grown directly from melt can be comparable to those of PZNT91/9 single crystals grown from flux. However, further work deserves attention to improve the dielectric properties of PZNT crystals grown directly from melt. Such unusual characterizations of dielectric properties of PZNT crystals grown directly from melt are considered as correlating with defects, microinhomogeneities, and polar regions. 相似文献

Strontium titanate single crystals 15–20 mm in diameter and 40–80 mm in length were grown by a floating zone method with radiation heating. Additional crystal heating just below the molten zone by an in-growth annealing furnace was applied in order to lower the temperature gradients and to achieve slower cooling of the grown crystal. The crystal perfection was studied with X-ray topography and double-crystal diffractometry. The most perfect crystals were grown in [0 0 1] direction with single grain rocking curve widths of about 30″ and subgrain misorientations of 1′–3′ over 10×10 mm2 areas of the boule cross-section for both (0 0 1)-, (1 1 0)- and (1 1 1)-oriented slices. Such high-quality crystal can be grown reproducibly with starting materials of 4N grade quality. 相似文献

Millimeter size CuS single crystals with a dark indigo blue color and a plate hexagonal shape have been successfully grown by the high-temperature solution growth technique using the KCl–LiCl eutectic as solvent. Surface microtopographic studies of the crystals indicated that the growth is made by the lateral spreading of the layers. Electrical resistivity measurements clearly show an anomaly at T55 K, related with the low-temperature structural transition, a high residual resistivity ratio of 400 and a sharp superconducting transition at T≈1.7 K confirming the very good quality of the crystals. 相似文献

The organic material 4-nitrobenzaldehyde single crystal has been grown using the single wall ampoule with nano-translation by modified vertical Bridgman technique. The grown crystal was confirmed by single and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis was used to identify the functional groups present in the grown crystal. The optical property of the grown crystal was analyzed by UV–vis–NIR and photoluminescence (PL) spectral measurements. The thermal characteristics of the grown crystal were analyzed by thermogravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analyses (DTA). The dielectric measurements were carried out with four different frequencies and the results indicate an increase in dielectric and conductivity parameters with the increase of temperature at all frequencies. The thermal fields of two Bridgman-like configurations, representative of real systems used in prior experiments for the detached growth of CdTe and Ge crystals, are studied. These detailed heat transfer computations are performed using the CrysMAS code and expand upon our previous analysis [C. Stelian, A. Yeckel, J.J. Derby, Influence of thermal phenomena on crystal reattachment during the dewetted Bridgman growth, J. Cryst. Growth, in press] that posited a new mechanism involving the thermal field and meniscus position to explain stable conditions for dewetted Bridgman growth. Computational results indicate that heat transfer conditions that led to successful detached growth in both of these systems are in accordance with our prior assertion, namely that the prevention of crystal reattachment to the crucible wall requires the avoidance of any undercooling of the melt meniscus during the growth run. Significantly, relatively simple process modifications that promote favorable thermal conditions for detached growth may overcome detrimental factors associated with meniscus shape and crucible wetting. Thus, these ideas may be important to advance the practice of detached growth for many materials. 相似文献
