We have studied the timing jitter in dispersion-managed soliton systems with a Gaussian pulse by two methods. Firstly, the timing jitter expressions for dispersion-managed soliton are derived by use of the perturbed variational method. By analyzing and simulating the timing jitter expressions, one can find that the timing jitter is induced by the amplifier spontaneous emission noise, the frequency shift, etc. The chirp sign, the soliton self-frequency shift, and the filters action also have effects on the timing jitter. Secondly, the timing jitter is calculated and analyzed by the moment method. The results of the two methods are proved to be consistent.  相似文献

We derive an expression for the timing jitter of a soliton owing to amplifier noise in dispersion-managed fiber systems. We show that the timing jitter is a function of the pulse width as well as of the chirp at the amplifier location and that it can be minimized by a proper choice of the amplifier position relative to the dispersion map.  相似文献

We investigate the phase jitter in long-haul optical transmission systems with periodic dispersion management and amplification. We compare different dispersion-managed soliton systems and a conventional soliton system having the same pulse width and path-averaged dispersion. Using the variational method, we derive the ordinary differential equations for the pulse parameters perturbed by amplifier noise and hence calculate the phase jitter. We verify the analytical results by numerically solving the nonlinear Schrödinger equation using split-step Fourier algorithm. The results suggest that the reduction of nonlinear phase noise in dispersion-managed soliton systems is possible compared to a conventional soliton system. It is also revealed that the phase noise is enhanced in stronger dispersion-managed systems. We also explore the phase noise effect in dispersion-managed quasi-linear systems and find that phase jitter is mitigated in highly dispersive fibers.  相似文献

提出了一种新型的基于光电振荡器的重复频率可调谐的超低抖动光窄脉冲源. 光电振荡器系统可以产生超低相位噪声的微波信号; 被该信号调制的直调光经过两次相位调制之后, 使光脉冲的啁啾增强; 再通过一段色散补偿光纤, 光脉冲被进一步压窄. 实验中使用YIG可调滤波器, 可以得到8–12 GHz内步进为200 MHz的可调谐微波信号, 因此光脉冲的重复频率具有可调谐性. 当微波信号即脉冲重复频率为9.6 GHz时, 测得脉冲宽度为3.7 ps, 相位噪声为-130.1 dBc/Hz@10 kHz. 由此得出光脉冲的瞬时抖动为60.1 fs (100 Hz–1 MHz), 因此该方案产生的光窄脉冲源具有超低的抖动.  相似文献

The phase noise and the amplitude noise of optical pulses from the amplitude modulated harmonically mode-locked (AM-HML) Er-doped fiber (EDF) ring laser was investigated by measuring the power spectra of the optical pulses. The root mean square (RMS) timing jitter and the RMS amplitude noise are 1.26 ps and 2.5% (500 Hz-50 kHz), respectively, when the pulse repetition frequency is 1.58 GHz. They are smaller than those in conventional harmonically mode-locked EDF ring lasers.  相似文献

We investigate the chirp selection of externally modulated RZ soliton pulse at 10 Gb/s for fiber optical communication systems for the reduction in timing jitter. We have chosen single arm Mach-Zehnder amplitude modulator with sin2 electrical shaped input-output (P-V) characteristic and its chirp range has been varied in the range of −5 to 5. The timing jitter, Q factor and bit error rate (BER) generated for the chirp range has been studied for various fiber lengths and post compensation has been demonstrated to reduce the timing jitter. The number of fixed output amplifiers after every 60 km span is varied from 2 to 10 and corresponding accumulated ASE noise has been studied to manage timing jitter and BER in permissible range, i.e. 5 ps and 10−9, respectively. It is observed that when two fiber spans are taken then the compensating fiber length for the system is less than 20 km for each case of the chirp considered. For 10 fiber spans, the compensating fiber length increases in the range 60-90 km depending upon the value of chirp taken. Finally it is shown that the chirp value of external modulator should be set to either 0 or −1 for externally modulated RZ soliton pulse in 10 Gb/s optical communication system which makes the system more insensitive to the timing jitter and the selection of dispersion compensating fiber length.  相似文献

We present an analytic theory of timing jitter in dispersion-managed light-wave systems that is based on the moment method and the assumption of a chirped Gaussian pulse. We apply the theory to a soliton system and show that 50% postcompensation of the accumulated dispersion can reduce the jitter by a factor of 2. We also apply the theory to a low-power light-wave system employing the return-to-zero format and find that timing jitter can be minimized along the fiber link for an optimal choice of precompensation and postcompensation.  相似文献

可调谐中红外飞秒光纤激光器具有非常普遍的应用,从而引起了人们的广泛关注。目前,非线性光纤中的拉曼孤子自频移效应是实现大范围可调谐飞秒脉冲激光的理想方法之一。然而,非线性光纤中其他高阶非线性效应的产生通常会限制拉曼孤子脉冲的能量提升。本文提出了利用有源掺杂光纤作为非线性介质和增益介质实现可调谐大能量中红外飞秒激光脉冲的方法。在理论上研究了有源掺杂非线性光纤中高阶孤子劈裂和孤子自频移效应的产生,以及线性增益对波长移动拉曼孤子能量、脉宽、光谱的影响。结果表明,通过为波长红移的低能量拉曼孤子提供线性增益,孤子脉冲的能量得到了显著提升且保持了其单脉冲特性,脉冲宽度为45 fs,且孤子脉冲的波长可通过所提供的增益进行大范围调谐。因此,利用有源掺杂光纤作为非线性介质是实现大能量可调谐中红外飞秒脉冲激光的一种有效方法。  相似文献

We investigate the high-frequency timing jitter spectral density of mode-locked fiber lasers in different mode-locked regimes. Quantum-noise-limited timing jitter spectra of mode-locked-regime-switchable Yb fiber lasers are measured up to the Nyquist frequency with sub-100-as resolution. The integrated rms timing jitter of soliton, stretched-pulse, and self-similar Yb fiber lasers is measured to be 1.8, 1.1, and 2.9 fs, respectively, when integrated from 10 kHz to 40 MHz. The distinct behavior of jitter spectral density related to pulse formation mechanisms is revealed experimentally for the first time.  相似文献

Based on first-order perturbation theory of the soliton, the Gordon-Haus timing jitter induced by amplifier noise is found to be non-Gaussian distributed. Both frequency and timing jitter have larger tail probabilities than Gaussian distribution given by the linearized perturbation theory. The timing jitter has a larger discrepancy from Gaussian distribution than does the frequency jitter.  相似文献

The bit error rate (BER) performance of an optical soliton communication system is analyzed. Based on the jitter variance equation and the chi-square distribution for the amplified spontaneous emission noise, an analytic expression for the BER calculation is obtained. We have investigated the effects of Gordon-Haus jitter, which is due to the random phase shift of the soliton individual central wavelength induced by the amplified spontaneous emission noise of the amplifiers. Very good agreement has been obtained between our theory and the reported experimental results.  相似文献

We obtain analytical formulas for minimizing chirp and timing jitter that lead to optimal designs for a soliton-wavelength-division-multiplexed system with dispersion management and lumped amplifiers. The method used here is the guiding-center theory, from which we obtain a stationary pulse shape (guiding-center soliton) that has enhanced power and an increased time-bandwidth product compared with those of a soliton alone.  相似文献

The carrier-envelope phase (CEP) characteristics of the tunable infrared laser pulses from a noncollinear optical parametric amplifier (OPA) with passively stabilized CEP are investigated experimentally. We compare the CEP fluctuation of different wavelength outputs from the OPA which is seeded by the idler pulse of a difference frequency generation (DFG) process. It is found that when the OPA output is tuned to a longer wavelength, the CEP fluctuation becomes less sensitive to the jitter of laser intensity and the phase mismatch, and therefore more stable CEP for the longer wavelength output pulses is realized.  相似文献

A novel scheme to generate tunable dual-wavelength optical pulses with low timing jitter at arbitrary repetition rates is proposed and demonstrated experimentally. The pulses are generated from a gain-switched Fabry-Pérot laser diode with two external cw beams for injection seeding simultaneously. The cw light is generated by two independent distributed feedback laser diodes, and their wavelengths can be tuned independently by two temperature controllers. The dual-wavelength pulses with the pulse width of 57 ps, the timing jitter of 340 fs, are obtained. The sidemode-suppression ratio of the output pulses is better than 23dB over a 10-nm wavelength tuning range.  相似文献

The moment method is used to study the Gordon–Haus timing jitter of optical pulses in dispersion-managed communication systems with distributed amplification. Timing-jitter formulas are derived for the dispersion-managed soliton and chirped return-to-zero formats. These formulas are used to study the effects of dispersion compensation on timing jitter. Just as distributed amplification reduces the amount of amplifier noise, so also does it reduce the timing jitter caused by amplifier noise. For both transmission formats, one can reduce the timing jitter significantly by choosing the amount of dispersion compensation judiciously.  相似文献

A fundamentally mode-locked soliton Er-fiber laser generating 167 fs pulses at 194 MHz via polarization additive-pulse mode locking is demonstrated. This simple, compact, and high repetition rate source exhibits a low timing jitter of 18 fs [1 kHz, 10 MHz] and the lowest relative intensity noise of less than 0.003% [1 kHz, 10 MHz] observed from an Er-fiber laser.  相似文献

Taking into account the randomicity of collision positions and the arbitrary encoding of data in channel,the influences of different dispersion management on collision-induced timing jitter in a filtered wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) soliton system are obtained statistically and numerically by applying a set of coupled ordinary differential equations which are derived through variational procedure. The optimal dispersion managements which can greatly reduce the collision-induced timing jitter are found. We found by using Monte Carlo simulations that the timing jitter in a dispersion-managed soliton system decreases as the strength of the dispersion management and hence the ratio of the pulse energy to the pulse bandwidth increases. The results are in qualitative but not quantitative agreement with earlier predictions that the decrease is inversely proportional to the square root of the pulse energy. Using an improved semi-analytical theory, we obtained quantitative agreement with the simulations.  相似文献

We propose a new system of a continuous variable quantum key distribution via a wavelength router in the optical networks. A large bandwidth signal is generated by a soliton pulse propagating within the micro ring resonator, which is allowed to form the continuous wavelength with large tunable channel capacity. There are two forms of localized soliton pulses proposed. Firstly, the required information is transmitted via the localized temporal soliton pulse. Secondly, the continuous variable quantum key distribution is formed by using the localized spatial soliton pulse via a quantum router and networks, which is formed by using and optical add/drop multiplexer incorporating in the network. The localized soliton pulses are available for add/drop signals to/from the optical network, where the high security and capacity information can be performed.  相似文献
