Hydatid cyst of the brain is more common in children than adults. The cyst is always solitary unless the primary site is the brain. Cerebral hydatid cyst (CHCy) is most frequently supratentorial involving the territory of the middle cerebral artery, especially the parietal lobe. This study included 16 patients who were treated for CHCy. They were 11 male patients (68.75%), and 5 female patients (31.25%), ranging in age from 6 to 40 years with an average age of 14.7 years. Most of the patients were children-12 patients (75%), between 6 to 16 years of age. All patients were from rural areas. Headache, vomiting and seizures were the predominant symptoms. Papilloedema was present in 12 patients (75%). CT and MRI were performed in all patients. The cysts were all located in the cerebral hemispheres, except one in the posterior fossa, (Rt. cerebellar hemisphere). One lobe alone was affected in 7 patients (43.8%), two lobes in 6 patients (37.5%) and 3 lobes in two patients (12.5%). Round, or oval well defined cystic lesions isointense to the CSF in T1 and T2WI, with hypointense walls in T2WI and no surrounding perifocal edema or evidence of contrast enhancement were seen in 12 patients (75%) and were classified as simple or non-complicated CHCy. Cystic lesions with surrounding, T2 hyperintense area of perifocal edema, complete and incomplete (segment) rim of contrast enhancement were seen in 4 patients (25%), and were labeled as complicated or infected cysts (cysts with superadded pyogenic infection). All patients were treated surgically, hydatid birth (delivery of unruptured cyst) was achieved in 10 patients, cyst rupture occurred in 6 patients (37.5%), with subsequent recurrence (3 patients with recurrent multiple cysts and 3 patients with recurrent solitary cysts). All the recurrent cysts were surrounded by perifocal edema and showed ring enhancement. MRI has proved to be an excellent means of studying CHCy. It will be more widely used for diagnosis and surgical planning. It provided information about the exact cyst localization, cyst contents and presence or absence of superadded cyst infection.  相似文献

We report a case of a 55-year-old woman with polycystic liver disease that we examined with magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, CT and ultrasound. The MR images demonstrated varying intensities in the cyst contents which we believe is due to different degrees and age of hemorrhage. Such variability among the cysts was not seen on the CT or ultrasound images.  相似文献

Eighty-nine cases after anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL) reconstruction were followed prospectively with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The patients were examined using axial and sagittal MRI at least twice during the postoperative evaluation of reconstructed ACL. Two cases of pretibial cyst formation were observed. At the time of cyst formation, neither patient had any subjective or objective evidence of knee instability. The cyst of one case communicated with the intra-articular. The minimum follow-up period after the surgical excision was 9 months, with no evidence of recurrence. We might speculate that the critical period for cyst formation in both patients occurred at less than 12 months after their ACL reconstruction. We concluded that the cyst formation was most likely due to incomplete graft tendon incorporation within the osseous tunnel.  相似文献

利用傅里叶变换红外光谱对宫颈鳞癌(17例)、宫颈腺癌(5例)及宫颈正常组织(13例)进行了分析。结果显示,18个谱带在各类组织中的出现概率都在80%以上,显示其在组织中的特征性;这3类组织红外光谱的相对吸收峰吸光度差异主要表现在1 080,1 238,1 314,1 339,1 397,1 454,1 541,1 647,2 854, 2 873,2 926和2 958 cm-1处的比较上。傅里叶变换红外光谱仪可用于区分宫颈鳞癌、腺癌及宫颈正常组织,以该仪器为基础的方法有望成为宫颈癌筛检及临床诊断的新方法。  相似文献

Decidual changes of the ectopic endometrial stroma during pregnancy are well known among pathologists and obstetricians. However, they appear very similar to endometrial cysts with malignant transformation when imaged. Balanced fast field echo (BFFE) is a steady-state free precession imaging sequence and its contrast is decided by the T1/T2 ratio. The authors report a case of a decidualized endometrial cyst in which mural nodules were isointense with the nomotopic decidualized endometrium on T1- and T2-weighted images and BFFE. Isointensity with the nomotopic endometrium is an MR characteristic that can differentiate a decidualized endometrial cyst from malignant transformation. BFFE is a good alternative sequence during pregnancy because of its shorter acquisition time and lower radiofrequency absorption.  相似文献

We designed a semiautomatic segmentation method to easily measure the volume of a bone cyst (simple or aneurysmal) from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This method only considers the fluid part of the cyst, even when there are several fluid intensities (fluid-fluid levels) or the cyst is multi-loculated. The nonhomogeneity phenomenon inherent in MRI was handled by a k-means clustering algorithm that classified all of the voxels corresponding to the cyst fluid as the same voxel intensity. Level-set segmentation was expanded into the whole cyst volume and the resulting segmented volume provided the measured cyst volume. The semiautomatic method was compared with the usual manual method (manual contour tracing) in terms of its ability to measure a known volume of water (gold standard) as well as the volume of 29 bone cysts. Both methods were equivalent with regards to the gold standard, but the semiautomatic method was more accurate. In terms of the experimental measurements, the semiautomatic method was more repeatable and reproducible, and less time-consuming and fastidious than the manual method. Our semiautomatic method uses only freeware and can be used routinely whenever measurement of a bone cyst volume is needed.  相似文献

Toxoplasmosis, caused by Toxoplasma gondii, is an important parasitic disease worldwide, which causes widespread human and animal diseases. The need for new therapeutic agents along with the biology of these parasites has fueled a keen interest in the understanding of the nutrients acquisition by these parasites. Studies on the characterization of the T. gondii cyst wall as well as the contribution of the host cell to this formation have been little explored. The aim of this paper was to investigate the electric surface charge of the T. gondii tissue cysts by ultrastructural cytochemistry, through polycationic markers, employing ruthenium red (RR) and cationized ferritin (CF). Glycosaminoglycans revealed by RR were localized on the cyst wall as a homogeneous granular layer electrondense, all over its surface. The incubation of living tissue cysts with CF for 20 min at 4 degrees C followed by the increase of temperature to 37 degrees C indicated that T. gondii cyst wall is negatively charged and that occurs an incorporation of anionic sites by the cyst wall, through vesicles and tubules, and their posterior location in the cyst matrix. So, as to identify which group of molecules produces negative charge in the cyst wall, we used enzymes for cleavage on different types of molecules, demonstrating that the negative charge in the cyst wall is mainly produced by phospholipids. Our results, described in this work show, for the first time, the negativities of the cyst wall, the incorporation and the traffic of intracellular surface molecules by T. gondii cyst wall. Our model of study can give an important contribution to the knowledge of the biology and the processes involved in nutrients acquisition by bradyzoites living inside the cysts and, and also be applied as a target for the direct action of drugs against the cyst.  相似文献

Proton MR spectroscopy (PMRS) has been found to be useful in differentiating various cystic intracranial lesions. The purpose of the present study was to prospectively evaluate the spectral pattern of various cystic lesions of brain with similar imaging appearances and to determine the accuracy of this technique in the differential diagnosis of these lesions. Fifty-one patients with intracranial cystic lesions (21 abscesses, 20 gliomas, 3 hydatid cysts, 3 arachnoid cysts, 1 case each of glioependymal cyst, xanthogranuloma, infarction and acoustic neuroma) were evaluated with conventional MR imaging and in vivo PMRS. Ex vivo PMRS of the cystic contents aspirated at surgery in 31 cases was also done to confirm the in-vivo results. Preoperative diagnosis of the lesions was based on the results of in vivo PMRS. In vivo PMRS accurately predicted the pathology in 92% of the cases. We conclude that in-vivo PMRS complements imaging in better characterization of cystic intracranial mass lesions.  相似文献

The origin of sulcus vocalis is debatable, it may arise from a congenital or acquired cyst that ruptures leaving a sulcus attached to the deep layer of the lamina propria. This has been hypothesized but never shown before.

Conclusion

The male reproductive system of Mischocyttarus cassununga consists of two testes, each one with three follicles, as occurs in most Vespidae. The seminal vesicle is divided in two chambers, separated by a constriction, so that the anterior locus is a little larger. In the testicular follicles, the spermatozoa are organized in cysts, with approximately 128 per cyst, where the nuclei are oriented toward the follicle center. The spermatozoa of M. cassununga is about 97 μm in length, which makes them the shortest sperm described for Vespidae. Sperm ultrastructure of M. cassununga is very similar of the others Vespidae. But, despite these similarities, the bilobated mitochondrial derivative represents an autapomorphy for M. cassununga. The subdivision of the seminal vesicle has never been observed in any other Vespidae. Thus, this study supports the validity of insect sperm morphology as a tool for phylogenetic analysis within Hymenoptera.  相似文献

Objective

To demonstrate the additional utility of ultrafast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the fetus in the evaluation of sonographically detected or equivocal fetal congenital anomalies.

Material and Methods

Twenty five pregnant women with ultrasound detected fetal congenital anomalies underwent ultrafast fetal MRI.

Results

MRI findings altered the diagnosis of two cases of giant arachnoid cyst and sizable interhemispheric cyst associated with agenesis of the corpus callosum. MRI added additional findings of occult spinal diastematomyelia in two out of four cases of Chiari/meningocele malformation. MRI revealed impaired sulcation and unilateral cleft palate in suspected case of Walker-Warburg syndrome. In the remaining 18 cases MRI confirmed the diagnosis of Meckel–Gruber syndrome in three cases, hydronephrosis in six cases, cerebral ventriculomegaly in five cases, isolated omphalocele in three cases and findings suggestive of aneuploidy in the last case.

Conclusion

Ultrasound is the screening method of choice for evaluation of the fetus. Ultrafast MRI is a complementary adjunctive modality with excellent tissue contrast that can image the fetus in multiple planes and add information in sonographically detected or equivocal congenital anomalies that may be significant to establish definitive accurate diagnosis and hence adequate management and counseling.  相似文献

This study was designed to investigate the potential role of ultrasound in the diagnosis of cysts of the true vocal fold. Materials and Methods: Grayscale ultrasound of the larynx was carried out in 29 patients with a swelling of the true vocal fold and dysphonia. The findings were then compared with those at subsequent microlaryngoscopy, in the majority of cases. Results and Conclusions: Whereas preoperative laryngeal ultrasound correctly predicted the surgical findings of a cystic lesion in only 5 of 11 cases, it correctly identified that no cyst was present in 15 of 16 instances when this had been queried. This study suggests that ultrasound may have some role in investigation of unilateral vocal fold pathology, but that further fine-tuning of the technique may be necessary.  相似文献

Thirty-four patients showing cystic intracranial mass lesions on MR imaging were evaluated by in vivo proton MR spectroscopy (MRS) with the aim of detecting lesion-specific spectral patterns that may assist imaging in better tissue characterization. In vivo spectroscopy was performed using stimulated echo acquisition mode with echo times 20 m and 270 m in all, and spin echo with echo time 135 m in 11 patients. All primary neoplasms (intra-as well as extra-axial) showed choline (3.22 ppm) resonance along with lipid and/or lactate (1.3 ppm). It was not possible to grade cystic gliomas based on N-acetyl asparate-to-choline ratio. High-grade gliomas (n = 8) showed lipid/lactate and low-grade gliomas (n = 6) showed only lactate. Seven patients with brain abscess showed resonances only from acetate (1.92 ppm), lactate (1.3 ppm) and alanine (1.5 ppm). Two cases of metastatic adenocarcinoma showed only lipid/lactate. In 7 patients with epidermoid cyst, lactate along with an unassigned resonance at 1.8 ppm was observed and could be easily differentiated from arachnoid cyst (n = 2), which showed only minimal lactate. A case of cystic meningioma could be differentiated from cystic schowannoma by the presence of alanine in the former. It is concluded that MR imaging, when combined with in vivo MRS, may help to better characterize intracranial cystic mass lesions.  相似文献

Cross-flows around two, three and four circular cylinders in tandem, side-by-side, isosceles triangle and square arrangements are simulated using the incompressible lattice Boltzmann method with a second-order accurate curved boundary condition at Reynolds number 200 and the cylinder center-to-center transverse or/and longitudinal spacing 1.5D, where D is the identical circular cylinder diameter. The wake patterns, pressure and force distributions on the cylinders and mechanism of flow dynamics are investigated and compared among the four cases. The results also show that flows around the three or four cylinders significantly differ from those of the two cylinders in the tandem and side-by-side arrangements although there are some common features among the four cases due to their similarity of structures, which are interesting, complex and useful for practical applications. This study provides a useful database to validate the simplicity, accuracy and robustness of the Lattice Boltzmann method.

We show some characteristics of three exact solutions to Einstein's gravity equation minimally coupled to a Quintessence field. Previous studies on the spermatogenesis of tenebrionid beetles showed the unusual formation of two antiparallel sperm bundles per cyst. In this work we reported this feature also in Tribolium castaneum using light and transmission electron microscopy. The sperm structure of T. castaneum, similar to other tenebrionids, consists of a three-layered acrosome, an elongated nucleus and a flagellum with a 9 + 9 + 2 axoneme, two accessory bodies and two asymmetric mitochondrial derivatives. The presence of two antiparallel sperm bundles per cyst also in Meloidae and Rhipiphoridae suggests that it is a strong trait synapomorphic for Tenebrionoidea. The huge degeneration of whole sperm cells in several cysts of testes during spermiogenesis is also described.  相似文献

We review the mathematical results on traveling waves in one or several superposed layers of potential flow, subject to gravity, with or without surface and interfacial tension, where the bottom layer is infinitely deep. The problem is formulated as a "spatial dynamical system," and it is shown that the linearized operator of the resulting reversible system has an essential spectrum filling the real line. We consider three cases where bifurcation occurs. (i) The first case is when, in moving a parameter, two pairs of imaginary eigenvalues merge into one pair of double eigenvalues, and then split into four symmetric complex conjugate eigenvalues. (ii) The second case is when one pair of imaginary eigenvalues meet in 0, and disappear; (iii) the third case is when the phenomenon described in (ii) is superposed to the presence of another pair of imaginary eigenvalues sitting at finite distance from 0. We give a physical example for each case and more specially study the solitary waves and generalized solitary waves, emphasizing the differences, in the methods and in the results, between these cases and the finite depth case.  相似文献
