Contractions Satisfying the Absolute Value Property

Let B(H) denote the algebra of operators on a complex Hilbert space H, and let U denote the class of operators which satisfy the absolute value condition . It is proved that if is a contraction, then either A has a nontrivial invariant subspace or A is a proper contraction and the nonnegative operator is strongly stable. A Putnam-Fuglede type commutativity theorem is proved for contractions A in , and it is shown that if normal subspaces of . Set of involutions arising from an egglike inversive plane

To every egglike inversive plane there is associated a family of involutions of the point set of such that circles of are the fixed point sets of the involutions in . Algebras Generated by the Bergman and Anti-Bergman Projections and by Multiplications by Piecewise Continuous Functions

The C*-algebra generated by the Bergman and anti-Bergman projections and by the operators of multiplication by piecewise continuous functions on the Lebesgue space L²(Π) over the upper half-plane is studied. Making use of a local principle, limit operators techniques, and the Plamenevsky results on two-dimensional singular integral operators with coefficients admitting homogeneous discontinuities we reduce the study to simpler C*-algebras associated with points and pairs We construct a symbol calculus for unital C*-algebras generated by n orthogonal projections sum of which equals the unit and by m one-dimensional orthogonal projections. Such algebras are models of local algebras at points z ∈∂Π being the discontinuity points of coefficients. A symbol calculus for the C*- algebra and a Fredholm criterion for the operators are obtained. Finally, a C*-algebra isomorphism between the quotient algebra where is the ideal of compact operators, and its analogue for the unit disk is constructed.     

The Oblique Derivative Problem for the Laplace Equation in a Plain Domain

The oblique derivative problem for the Laplace equation is studied in a planar multiply connected domain. The boundary condition has a form where is the unit normal vector, is the unit tangential vector and is a fixed real number. If is a Hölderian function and the corresponding domain has Ljapunov boundary then the classical problem is studied. If on the boundary and the domain has a locally Lipschitz boundary then a solution, which fulfils the boundary condition in the sense of a nontangential limit, is studied. If is a real measure on the boundary and the domain has bounded cyclic variation then a solution in a sense of distributions is studied. The solution is looked for in a form of a linear combination of a single layer potential and an angular potential.     

Positive Operator Majorization and <Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis>-hyponormality

In this note we examine the relationships between p-hyponormal operators and the operator inequality . This leads to a method for generating examples of p-hyponormal operators which are not q-hyponormal for any . Our methods are also shown to have implications for the class of Furuta type inequalities.

On Compact Perturbations of Locally Definitizable Selfadjoint Relations in Krein Spaces

The aim of this paper is to prove two perturbation results for a selfadjoint operator A in a Krein space which can roughly be described as follows: (1) If is an open subset of and all spectral subspaces for A corresponding to compact subsets of have finite rank of negativity, the same is true for a selfadjoint operator B in for which the difference of the resolvents of A and B is compact. (2) The property that there exists some neighbourhood of such that the restriction of A to a spectral subspace for A corresponding to is a nonnegative operator in is preserved under relative perturbations in form sense if the resulting operator is again selfadjoint. The assertion (1) is proved for selfadjoint relations A and B. (1) and (2) generalize some known results.

On the Singularities of the Magnetic Spectral Shift Function at the Landau Levels

The First-Order Nonholonomic Connections with the Galilean Groups of Local Transformations. II

In the canonical smooth fiber bundles endowed with the metric tensor fields of relevant structure, we consider natural representations of the Galilean groups and construct -invariant generalizations of differentiable connections. In both regular and special cases of the representations of the relevant groups , we found all the affine nonholonomic -, -, and -connections of the first order (see [1]–[3]) possessing the local Lie groups of transformations and also described the respective -invariant planar connections.     

Convex Subgroups of Partially Right-Ordered Groups

We study into the question of whether a partial order can be induced from a partially right-ordered group onto a space of right cosets of w.r.t. some subgroup of . Examples are constructed showing that the condition of being convex for in is insufficient for this. A necessary and sufficient condition (in terms of a subgroup and a positive cone of ) is specified under which an order of can be induced onto . Sufficient conditions are also given. We establish properties of the class of partially right-ordered groups for which is partially ordered for every convex subgroup , and properties of the class of groups such that is partially ordered for every partial right order on and every subgroup that is convex under .
