Propagation dynamics of a nonlocal periodic organism model with non-monotone birth rates

This work is concerned with a nonlocal reaction–diffusion system modeling the propagation dynamics of organisms owning mobile and stationary states in periodic environments. We establish the existence of the asymptotic speed of spreading for the model system with monotone birth function via asymptotic propagation theory of monotone semiflow, and then discuss the case for non-monotone birth function by using the squeezing technique. In terms of the truncated problem on a finite interval, we apply the method of super- and sub-solutions and the fixed point theorem combined with regularity estimation and limit arguments to obtain the existence of time periodic traveling waves for the model system without quasi-monotonicity. The non-existence proof is to use the results of the spreading speed. Finally, as an application, we study the spatial dynamics of the model with the birth rate function of Ricker type and numerically demonstrate analytic results.     

On homoclinic bifurcation emanating from Takens-Bogdanov points in Hamiltonian systems

The paper is devoted to studying the bifurcation of periodic and homoclinic orbits in a 2n-dimensional Hamiltonian system with 1 parameter from a TB-point (Hamiltonian saddle node). In addition to the proof of existence, the paper gives an expansion formula of the bifurcating homoclinic orbits. With the help of center manifold reduction and a blow up transformation, the problem is focused on studying a planar Hamiltonian system, the proof for the perturbed homoclinic and periodic orbits is elementary in the sense that it uses only implicit function arguments. Two applications to travelling waves in PDEs are shown.

Estimates of the norm of a function orthogonal to the piecewise-constant functions in terms of higher-order moduli of continuity

The uniform norm of a function that is defined on the real line and has zero integrals between integer points is estimated in terms of its modulus of continuity of arbitrary even order. Sharp bounds of this kind are known for periodic functions. The passage to nonperiodic functions significantly complicates the problem. In general, the constant for nonperiodic functions is greater than that for periodic functions. The constants in the bound are improved compared with those known earlier. The proof is based on a representation of the error of the polynomial interpolation as the product of the influence polynomial and an integrated difference of higher order.

Periodic Solutions for a Damped Rayleigh Beam Model with Time Delay

Vibrations of a beam can be described as an Euler-Bernoulli beam,or as a Rayleigh beam or as a Timoshenko beam. In this paper, we establish the existence of periodic solutions in time for a damped Rayleigh beam model with time delay, which is treated as a bifurcation parameter. The main proof is based on a Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction together with the classical implicit function theorem. Moreover, we give a sufficient condition for a direction of bifurcation.     

Existence and exponential convergence of the positive almost periodic solution for a model of hematopoiesis

In this work, we study the existence and global exponential convergence of positive almost periodic solutions for the generalized model of hematopoiesis. Under appropriate conditions, we employ a novel proof to establish some criteria for ensuring that all solutions of this model converge exponentially to the positive almost periodic solution.
