Rank,term rank and chromatic number of a graph

Let G be a graph with a nonempty edge set, we denote the rank of the adjacency matrix of G and the term rank of G, by $\mathrm{rk}(G)$ and $\mathrm{Rk}(G)$, respectively. It was conjectured [C. van Nuffelen, Amer. Math. Monthly 83 (1976) 265–266], for any graph G, $\chi (G)?\mathrm{rk}(G)$. The first counterexample to this conjecture was obtained by Alon and Seymour [J. Graph Theor. 13 (1989) 523–525]. Recently, Fishkind and Kotlov [Discrete Math. 250 (2002) 253–257] have proved that for any graph G, $\chi (G)?\mathrm{Rk}(G)$. In this Note we improve Fishkind–Kotlov upper bound and show that $\chi (G)?\frac{\mathrm{rk}(G)+\mathrm{Rk}(G)}{2}$. To cite this article: S. Akbari, H.-R. Fanaï, C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris, Ser. The Lie algebra of type G2 is rational over its quotient by the adjoint action

Let G be a split simple group of type $G_2$ over a field k, and let $\mathfrak{g}$ be its Lie algebra. Answering a question of J.-L. Colliot-Thélène, B. Kunyavski?, V.L. Popov, and Z. Reichstein, we show that the function field $k(\mathfrak{g})$ is generated by algebraically independent elements over the field of adjoint invariants $k{(\mathfrak{g})}^G$.     

Six-dimensional product Lie algebras admitting integrable complex structures

We classify the 6-dimensional Lie algebras of the form $\mathfrak{g}\times \mathfrak{g}$ that admit an integrable complex structure. We also endow a Lie algebra of the kind $\mathfrak{o}(n)\times \mathfrak{o}(n)$ ($n\ge 2$) with such a complex structure. The motivation comes from geometric structures à la Sasaki on $\mathfrak{g}$-manifolds.     

A counterexample to the local–global principle of linear dependence for Abelian varieties

Let A be an Abelian variety defined over a number field k. Let P be a point in $A(k)$ and let X be a subgroup of $A(k)$. Gajda and Kowalski asked in 2002 whether it is true that the point P belongs to X if and only if the point $(P\mathrm{mod}\mathfrak{p})$ belongs to $(X\mathrm{mod}\mathfrak{p})$ for all but finitely many primes $\mathfrak{p}$ of k. We provide a counterexample.     

Vust's Theorem and higher level Schur–Weyl duality for types B, C and D

Let G be a complex linear algebraic group, $\mathfrak{g}=\mathrm{Lie}(G)$ its Lie algebra and $e\in \mathfrak{g}$ a nilpotent element. Vust's Theorem says that in case of $G=\mathrm{GL}(V)$, the algebra ${\mathrm{End}}_{G_e}(V^{?d})$, where $G_e?G$ is the stabilizer of e under the adjoint action, is generated by the image of the natural action of d-th symmetric group ${\mathfrak{S}}_d$ and the linear maps $\{1^{?(i?1)}?e?1^{?(d?i)}|i=1,\dots ,d\}$. In this paper, we give an analogue of Vust's Theorem for $G=\mathrm{O}(V)$ and $\mathrm{SP}(V)$ when the nilpotent elements e satisfy that $\stackrel{￣}{G?e}$ is normal. As an application, we study the higher Schur–Weyl duality in the sense of [4] for types B, C and D, which establishes a relationship between W-algebras and degenerate affine braid algebras.     

Tight closure of parameter ideals in local rings F-rational on the punctured spectrum

Let $(R,\mathfrak{m},k)$ be an equidimensional excellent local ring of characteristic $p>0$. The aim of this paper is to show that ${?}_R({\mathfrak{q}}^{?}/\mathfrak{q})$ does not depend on the choice of parameter ideal $\mathfrak{q}$ provided R is an F-injective local ring that is F-rational on the punctured spectrum.     

Galois extensions,plus closure,and maps on local cohomology

Given a local domain $(R,\mathfrak{m})$ of prime characteristic that is a homomorphic image of a Gorenstein ring, Huneke and Lyubeznik proved that there exists a module-finite extension domain S such that the induced map on local cohomology modules $H_{\mathfrak{m}}^i(R)\to H_{\mathfrak{m}}^i(S)$ is zero for each $i<\dim R$. We prove that the extension S may be chosen to be generically Galois, and analyze the Galois groups that arise.
