The frequency of radiation from planar channeled positrons in the GeV region is discussed for realistic planar potentials when the dipolarity condition is not satisfied. It is found that there is a critical beam momentum at which the maximum radiated frequency is practically the same for all channeled positrons. For this momentum a sharp peak in the calculated composite spectrum is to be expected and this could explain the sharp peaking observed in a recent CERn experiment for 5 GeV/c positrons.  相似文献

Radiation spectra for GeV electrons and positrons have been measured in a broad range of incidence angles in Si and Ge crystals. An enhancement up to a factor of 50 is found for axially channeled particles. In nearly all cases, the very low-energy part of the photon spectra is strongly reduced either due to equalization in the doughnut or due to the strong multiple scattering from the atomic rows. For large incident angles to the axis, the reduction is due to the so-called Landau-Pomeranchuk effect. For proper channeled positrons, stable oscillations give rise to a peak in the photon spectra. In the transition region from axial to planar channeling, the photon spectra change from being structureless to showing pronounced peaks from the first harmonics. The experimental results are compared to both classical and quantal calculations.  相似文献

An effect of the orientation dependence of the cross section for the single-photon annihilation of relativistic positrons with atomic electrons in a crystal is predicted. It is shown that the probability for the single-photon annihilation of a channeled positron in a crystal may be either suppressed in a crystal in relation to a homogeneous medium or, on the contrary, enhanced. The reason is that, depending on their incidence angle, the positrons may be either in the vicinity of ion planes of the crystal, where the electron density is higher, or far away from them, where the electron density is lower.  相似文献

Abstract

A method of calculation of angular distributions of channeled electrons is proposed in the paper. The depth dependence of the angular distribution is investigated. At large penetration depths, the planar channeled particles are seen to spread widely parallel to the atomic planes, while the transverse motion is more confined.  相似文献

Summary The previous form of the coupled-static approximation applied to the inelastic scattering of positrons by alkali metal atoms is improved by switching on the polarization potentials of the positroniums. The effect of these potentials on the total elastic and positronium formation cross-sections of three different scattering problems (namely the collisions of positrons with lithium, sodium and potassium atoms) is discussed in details. Particularly, we devote our interest to the comparison between the resultant positronium formation cross-sections and those of the inelastic collisions of positrons with berylium, magnesium and calcium positive ions.  相似文献

The spectral, angular and polarization characteristics of the electromagnetic radiation generated by relativistic positrons reflected at small angles by a solid surface are obtained in the dipole approximation of classical electrodynamics. The effects investigated are produced by coherent interaction of the reflected positrons with atomic chains on the solid surface. 介绍了高能电子和正电子在晶体中的沟道辐射,对超相对论电子和正电子在周期弯曲晶体中的相干辐射进行了分析,并提出了初步的实验设想. The channeling radiation of high energy electrons and positrons in crystals was introduced. According to the new idea proposed by A.V.Korol, the coherent radiation of ultra relativistic electrons and positrons channeled in periodically bent crystals was analyzed. The characteristics of the radiation were obtained by using classic electromagnetic theory and a tentative experimental plan for testing was suggested.  相似文献

An “atom” in a composed system is defined by its atomic potential. Using density functional theory in the local density approximation Becke's scheme is applied to decompose the total potential of the system into atomic contributions. Atomic potentials are generally short-ranged. Their domains of range are diffuse atomic cells which - in the case of heteronuclear systems - are bounded by curved “surface” pieces. The total self-consistent potential of arbitrarily disordered systems is rigorously represented as a superposition of overlapping atomic potentials. Numerical tests for an approximate partition scheme have been carried out for a fcc cluster of 63 Al atoms. A physical interpretation of the XC potential partition is given.  相似文献

Emission by 120-GeV positrons in the channeling regime in the (011) plane of a silicon single crystal has been considered. Trajectories of positrons under different initial conditions have been calculated within the theory of nonlinear oscillations. The amplitude distribution function of channeled particles has been determined taking into account the nonlinearity of their motion. The intensity of radiation under various initial conditions has been calculated by two different methods. These results can be useful for comparison with experimental data at energies of positrons beginning with 100 GeV and higher.  相似文献

A simple model to calculate the effects of dislocations on the energy loss of charged particles in proper axial channeling (hyperchanneling) is discussed. The cylindrically symmetric potential around the channel axis is obtained in the continuum approximation for 〈110〉 channel of diamond structure and 〈100〉 channels of fcc and bcc crystals. As in recent work planar case, the channel curvature due to dislocations is approximated by an arc of constant radius which is determined from the displacement equations for the dislocation. An analytical expression for the change in the energy loss of initially well channeled particles is obtained for channels with small curvature.  相似文献

The induced potential due to an oscillating charge source near the interface of two metals whose electron densities differ slightly, is calculated in the hydrodynamic approximation. Results are given for both planar and spherical interfaces. The potential is used to evaluate the dispersion force field on an atomic system near the interface. It is shown that the force field is divergence-free at very small separation from the planar interface if the electron density profile is diffuse.  相似文献

Theoretical differential cross-sections are obtained for the elastic scattering of fast (E i ⩾ 200 eV) positrons by oxygen molecules. Employing the independent atom model, the atomic scattering amplitudes are calculated with the (static + polarization) model potentials, in the partial wave analysis (PWA). Based on the atomic superposition approximation(ATSUP) and first-principles pseudopotential plane-wave methods,the bulk and Mg mono-vacancy positron lifetime of magnesium oxide were calculated using Arponen-Pajamme and Boron’ski-Nieminen positron-annihilation-rate interpolation formula respectively.The calculated values are in good agreement with experimental values and the first-principles method gives more convincing results.The positron annihilation density spectra analysis reveals that positrons mainly annihilate with valence electrons of oxygen atoms when the magnesium-vacancy appears within magnesium oxide.  相似文献

An injector of monochromatic positrons for the low-energy positron accumulator (LEPTA) is being tested at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. The source of positrons is the radioactive source 22Na. At the output of the source, positrons are slowed down in a solid target. Frozen neon is used as a moderator. For this purpose, a system of cryocooling of the source and the neon supply line have been assembled. A method of detection of slow positrons has been developed and tuned. The first experiments with the frozen moderator have been performed. A continuous beam of slow positrons with an average energy of 1.2 eV and spectrum width of 1 eV has been obtained.  相似文献

The differential cross-sections of atomic hydrogen for elastic scattering of electrons and positrons have been rederived with the help of a method using a single parameter-dependent unitary shift operator for the calculation of the direct contribution. When the parameter approaches zerc the new method leads to the well-known conventional Glauber results. The numerical calculations include polarization effects and the exchange corrections obtained according to alternative approximation methods. Results calculated with Franco’s exchange show a definite improvement over the earlier results for medium energy electrons at large angles of scattering. Total elastic cross-sections have been calculated for 50 and 100eV electrons and positrons.  相似文献
