Lifting is a procedure for deriving valid inequalities for mixed-integer sets from valid inequalities for suitable restrictions of those sets. Lifting has been shown to be very effective in developing strong valid inequalities for linear integer programming and it has been successfully used to solve such problems with branch-and-cut algorithms. Here we generalize the theory of lifting to conic integer programming, i.e., integer programs with conic constraints. We show how to derive conic valid inequalities for a conic integer program from conic inequalities valid for its lower-dimensional restrictions. In order to simplify the computations, we also discuss sequence-independent lifting for conic integer programs. When the cones are restricted to nonnegative orthants, conic lifting reduces to the lifting for linear integer programming as one may expect.  相似文献

A conic integer program is an integer programming problem with conic constraints. Many problems in finance, engineering, statistical learning, and probabilistic optimization are modeled using conic constraints. Here we study mixed-integer sets defined by second-order conic constraints. We introduce general-purpose cuts for conic mixed-integer programming based on polyhedral conic substructures of second-order conic sets. These cuts can be readily incorporated in branch-and-bound algorithms that solve either second-order conic programming or linear programming relaxations of conic integer programs at the nodes of the branch-and-bound tree. Central to our approach is a reformulation of the second-order conic constraints with polyhedral second-order conic constraints in a higher dimensional space. In this representation the cuts we develop are linear, even though they are nonlinear in the original space of variables. This feature leads to a computationally efficient implementation of nonlinear cuts for conic mixed-integer programming. The reformulation also allows the use of polyhedral methods for conic integer programming. We report computational results on solving unstructured second-order conic mixed-integer problems as well as mean–variance capital budgeting problems and least-squares estimation problems with binary inputs. Our computational experiments show that conic mixed-integer rounding cuts are very effective in reducing the integrality gap of continuous relaxations of conic mixed-integer programs and, hence, improving their solvability. We consider Hilbert-type functions associated with difference (not necessarily inversive) field extensions and systems of algebraic difference equations in the case when the translations are assigned some integer weights. We will show that such functions are quasi-polynomials, which can be represented as alternating sums of Ehrhart quasi-polynomials associated with rational conic polytopes. In particular, we obtain generalizations of main theorems on difference dimension polynomials and their invariants to the case of weighted basic difference operators.  相似文献

In this paper, we review recent advances in the distributional analysis of mixed integer linear programs with random objective coefficients. Suppose that the probability distribution of the objective coefficients is incompletely specified and characterized through partial moment information. Conic programming methods have been recently used to find distributionally robust bounds for the expected optimal value of mixed integer linear programs over the set of all distributions with the given moment information. These methods also provide additional information on the probability that a binary variable attains a value of 1 in the optimal solution for 0–1 integer linear programs. This probability is defined as the persistency of a binary variable. In this paper, we provide an overview of the complexity results for these models, conic programming formulations that are readily implementable with standard solvers and important applications of persistency models. The main message that we hope to convey through this review is that tools of conic programming provide important insights in the probabilistic analysis of discrete optimization problems. These tools lead to distributionally robust bounds with applications in activity networks, vertex packing, discrete choice models, random walks and sequencing problems, and newsvendor problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we establish two theorems of alternative with generalized subconvexlikeness. We introduce two dual models for a generalized fractional programming problem. Theorems of alternative are then applied to establish duality theorems and a saddle-point type optimality condition.  相似文献

The simple integer recourse (SIR) function of a decision variable is the expectation of the integer round-up of the shortage/surplus between a random variable with a known distribution and the decision variable. It is the integer analogue of the simple (continuous) recourse function in two-stage stochastic linear programming. Structural properties and approximations of SIR functions have been extensively studied in the seminal works of van der Vlerk and coauthors. We study a distributionally robust SIR function (DR-SIR) that considers the worst-case expectation over a given family of distributions. Under the assumption that the distribution family is specified by its mean and support, we derive a closed form analytical expression for the DR-SIR function. We also show that this nonconvex DR-SIR function can be represented using a mixed-integer second-order conic program.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a particular form of inequalities which involves product of multiple variables with rational exponents. These inequalities can equivalently be represented by a number of conic quadratic forms called cone constraints. We propose an integer programming model and a heuristic algorithm to obtain the minimum number of cone constraints which equivalently represent the original inequality. The performance of the proposed algorithm and the computational effect of reformulations are numerically illustrated.  相似文献

We present branching-on-hyperplane methods for solving mixed integer linear and mixed integer convex programs. In particular, we formulate the problem of finding a good branching hyperplane using a novel concept of adjoint lattice. We also reformulate the problem of rounding a continuous solution to a mixed integer solution. A worst case complexity of a Lenstra-type algorithm is established using an approximate log-barrier center to obtain an ellipsoidal rounding of the feasible set. The results for the mixed integer convex programming also establish a complexity result for the mixed integer second order cone programming and mixed integer semidefinite programming feasibility problems as a special case. Our results motivate an alternative reformulation technique and a branching heuristic using a generalized (e.g., ellipsoidal) norm reduced basis available at the root node.  相似文献

The zero-one integer programming problem and its special case, the multiconstraint knapsack problem frequently appear as subproblems in many combinatorial optimization problems. We present several methods for computing lower bounds on the optimal solution of the zero-one integer programming problem. They include Lagrangean, surrogate and composite relaxations. New heuristic procedures are suggested for determining good surrogate multipliers. Based on theoretical results and extensive computational testing, it is shown that for zero-one integer problems with few constraints surrogate relaxation is a viable alternative to the commonly used Lagrangean and linear programming relaxations. These results are used in a follow up paper to develop an efficient branch and bound algorithm for solving zero-one integer programming problems.  相似文献

Linear programming duality yields efficient algorithms for solving inverse linear programs. We show that special classes of conic programs admit a similar duality and, as a consequence, establish that the corresponding inverse programs are efficiently solvable. We discuss applications of inverse conic programming in portfolio optimization and utility function identification.  相似文献

We consider a nonsmooth semi-infinite programming problem with a feasible set defined by inequality and equality constraints and a set constraint. First, we study some alternative theorems which involve linear and sublinear functions and a convex set and we propose several generalizations of them. Then, alternative theorems are applied to obtain, under different constraint qualifications, several necessary optimality conditions in the type of Fritz-John and Karush-Kuhn-Tucker.  相似文献

Ge and Huang (1989) proposed an approach to transform nonlinear integer programming problems into nonlinear global optimization problems, which are then solved by the filled function transformation method. The approach has recently attracted much attention. This note indicates that the formulae to determine a penalty parameter in two fundamental theorems are incorrect, and presents the corrected formulae and revised theorems.  相似文献

We study convex conic optimization problems in which the right-hand side and the cost vectors vary linearly as functions of a scalar parameter. We present a unifying geometric framework that subsumes the concept of the optimal partition in linear programming (LP) and semidefinite programming (SDP) and extends it to conic optimization. Similar to the optimal partition approach to sensitivity analysis in LP and SDP, the range of perturbations for which the optimal partition remains constant can be computed by solving two conic optimization problems. Under a weaker notion of nondegeneracy, this range is simply given by a minimum ratio test. We discuss briefly the properties of the optimal value function under such perturbations.  相似文献

We examine connections between A-hypergeometric differential equations and the theory of integer programming. In the first part, we develop a hypergeometric sensitivity analysis for small variations of constraint constants with creation operators and b-functions. In the second part, we study the indicial polynomial (b-function) along the hyperplane xi=0 via a correspondence between the optimal value of an integer programming problem and the roots of the indicial polynomial. Gröbner bases are used to prove theorems and give counter examples.  相似文献

Disruptions in airline operations can result in infeasibilities in aircraft and passenger schedules. Airlines typically recover aircraft schedules and disruptions in passenger itineraries sequentially. However, passengers are severely affected by disruptions and recovery decisions. In this paper, we present a mathematical formulation for the integrated aircraft and passenger recovery problem that considers aircraft and passenger related costs simultaneously. Using the superimposition of aircraft and passenger itinerary networks, passengers are explicitly modeled in order to use realistic passenger related costs. In addition to the common routing recovery actions, we integrate several passenger recovery actions and cruise speed control in our solution approach. Cruise speed control is a very beneficial action for mitigating delays. On the other hand, it adds complexity to the problem due to the nonlinearity in fuel cost function. The problem is formulated as a mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) model. We show that the problem can be reformulated as conic quadratic mixed integer programming (CQMIP) problem which can be solved with commercial optimization software such as IBM ILOG CPLEX. Our computational experiments have shown that we could handle several simultaneous disruptions optimally on a four-hub network of a major U.S. airline within less than a minute on the average. We conclude that proposed approach is able to find optimal tradeoff between operating and passenger-related costs in real time.  相似文献

This paper proposes a Benders-like partitioning algorithm to solve the network loading problem. The approach is an iterative method in which the integer programming solver is not used to produce the best integer point in the polyhedral relaxation of the set of feasible capacities. Rather, it selects an integer solution that is closest to the best known integer solution. Contrary to previous approaches, the method does not exploit the original mixed integer programming formulation of the problem. The effort of computing integer solutions is entirely left to a pure integer programming solver while valid inequalities are generated by solving standard nonlinear multicommodity flow problems. The method is compared to alternative approaches proposed in the literature and appears to be efficient for computing good upper bounds.  相似文献

Discrete convex analysis   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
A theory of “discrete convex analysis” is developed for integer-valued functions defined on integer lattice points. The theory parallels the ordinary convex analysis, covering discrete analogues of the fundamental concepts such as conjugacy, subgradients, the Fenchel min-max duality, separation theorems and the Lagrange duality framework for convex/nonconvex optimization. The technical development is based on matroid-theoretic concepts, in particular, submodular functions and exchange axioms. Sections 1–4 extend the conjugacy relationship between submodularity and exchange ability, deepening our understanding of the relationship between convexity and submodularity investigated in the eighties by A. Frank, S. Fujishige, L. Lovász and others. Sections 5 and 6 establish duality theorems for M- and L-convex functions, namely, the Fenchel min-max duality and separation theorems. These are the generalizations of the discrete separation theorem for submodular functions due to A. Frank and the optimality criteria for the submodular flow problem due to M. Iri-N. Tomizawa, S. Fujishige, and A. Frank. A novel Lagrange duality framework is also developed in integer programming. We follow Rockafellar’s conjugate duality approach to convex/nonconvex programs in nonlinear optimization, while technically relying on the fundamental theorems of matroid-theoretic nature.  相似文献
