We examine a certain class of Schauder bases for the space C[-1,1] consisting of algebraic polynomials orthogonal with respect to theChebycheff weight of the first kind. We give an improved estimate for itsLebesgue constants.  相似文献

We consider polynomials that are orthogonal on [−1,1] with respect to a modified Jacobi weight (1−x)α(1+x)βh(x), with α,β>−1 and h real analytic and strictly positive on [−1,1]. We obtain full asymptotic expansions for the monic and orthonormal polynomials outside the interval [−1,1], for the recurrence coefficients and for the leading coefficients of the orthonormal polynomials. We also deduce asymptotic behavior for the Hankel determinants and for the monic orthogonal polynomials on the interval [−1,1]. For the asymptotic analysis we use the steepest descent technique for Riemann-Hilbert problems developed by Deift and Zhou, and applied to orthogonal polynomials on the real line by Deift, Kriecherbauer, McLaughlin, Venakides, and Zhou. In the steepest descent method we will use the Szeg? function associated with the weight and for the local analysis around the endpoints ±1 we use Bessel functions of appropriate order, whereas Deift et al. use Airy functions.  相似文献

It has been shown in Ferreira et al. [Asymptotic relations in the Askey scheme for hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials, Adv. in Appl. Math. 31(1) (2003) 61–85], López and Temme [Approximations of orthogonal polynomials in terms of Hermite polynomials, Methods Appl. Anal. 6 (1999) 131–146; The Askey scheme for hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials viewed from asymptotic analysis, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 133 (2001) 623–633] that the three lower levels of the Askey table of hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials are connected by means of asymptotic relations. In Ferreira et al. [Limit relations between the Hahn polynomials and the Hermite, Laguerre and Charlier polynomials, submitted for publication] we have established new asymptotic connections between the fourth level and the two lower levels. In this paper, we continue with that program and obtain asymptotic expansions between the fourth level and the third level: we derive 16 asymptotic expansions of the Hahn, dual Hahn, continuous Hahn and continuous dual Hahn polynomials in terms of Meixner–Pollaczek, Jacobi, Meixner and Krawtchouk polynomials. From these expansions, we also derive three new limits between those polynomials. Some numerical experiments show the accuracy of the approximations and, in particular, the accuracy in the approximation of the zeros of those polynomials.  相似文献

We show that any scalar differential operator with a family of polynomials as its common eigenfunctions leads canonically to a matrix differential operator with the same property. The construction of the corresponding family of matrix valued polynomials has been studied in [A. Durán, A generalization of Favard's theorem for polynomials satisfying a recurrence relation, J. Approx. Theory 74 (1993) 83-109; A. Durán, On orthogonal polynomials with respect to a positive definite matrix of measures, Canad. J. Math. 47 (1995) 88-112; A. Durán, W. van Assche, Orthogonal matrix polynomials and higher order recurrence relations, Linear Algebra Appl. 219 (1995) 261-280] but the existence of a differential operator having them as common eigenfunctions had not been considered. This correspondence goes only one way and most matrix valued situations do not arise in this fashion. We illustrate this general construction with a few examples. In the case of some families of scalar valued polynomials introduced in [F.A. Grünbaum, L. Haine, Bispectral Darboux transformations: An extension of the Krall polynomials, Int. Math. Res. Not. 8 (1997) 359-392] we take a first look at the algebra of all matrix differential operators that share these common eigenfunctions and uncover a number of phenomena that are new to the matrix valued case.  相似文献

In this note Laguerre-, Legendre- and Jacobi-type orthogonal polynomials with respect to an indefinite weight function are considered (see [LK]). In [LK] some values of the parameters are excluded, as in these cases the eigenvectors of the associated operators in the corresponding Pontrjagin spaces do not form a complete system. It is shown, that in these exceptional cases algebraically nonsimple eigenvalues appear, and in order to get a complete system, the system of eigenfunctions has to be augmented by those root functions, which are not eigenfunctions.  相似文献

In the present paper we study the orthogonal polynomials with respect to a measure which is the sum of a finite positive Borel measure on [0,2π] and a Bernstein–Szegö measure. We prove that the measure sum belongs to the Szegö class and we obtain several properties about the norms of the orthogonal polynomials, as well as, about the coefficients of the expression which relates the new orthogonal polynomials with the Bernstein–Szegö polynomials. When the Bernstein–Szegö measure corresponds to a polynomial of degree one, we give a nice explicit algebraic expression for the new orthogonal polynomials.  相似文献

We consider the Hankel determinant generated by the Gaussian weight with two jump discontinuities. Utilizing the results of Min and Chen [Math. Methods Appl Sci. 2019;42:301‐321] where a second‐order partial differential equation (PDE) was deduced for the log derivative of the Hankel determinant by using the ladder operators adapted to orthogonal polynomials, we derive the coupled Painlevé IV system which was established in Wu and Xu [arXiv: 2002.11240v2] by a study of the Riemann‐Hilbert problem for orthogonal polynomials. Under double scaling, we show that, as , the log derivative of the Hankel determinant in the scaled variables tends to the Hamiltonian of a coupled Painlevé II system and it satisfies a second‐order PDE. In addition, we obtain the asymptotics for the recurrence coefficients of orthogonal polynomials, which are connected with the solutions of the coupled Painlevé II system.  相似文献

In [3] certain Laurent polynomials of 2F1 genus were called “Jacobi Laurent polynomials”. These Laurent polynomials belong to systems which are orthogonal with respect to a moment sequence ((a)n/(c)n)nεℤ where a, c are certain real numbers. Together with their confluent forms, belonging to systems which are orthogonal with respect to 1/(c)n)nεℤ respectively ((a)n)nεℤ, these Laurent polynomials will be called “classical”. The main purpose of this paper is to determine all the simple (see section 1) orthogonal systems of Laurent polynomials of which the members satisfy certain second order differential equations with polynomial coefficients, analogously to the well known characterization of S. Bochner [1] for ordinary polynomials.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the homogeneous polynomials orthogonal with the weight function h(x(d))=x1^2k1…xd^2kd on S^(d-1).We obtain the explicit formula on a basis of the orthogonal homogeneous polynomials of degree n. It is simpler than the formula in,and can be regarded as an extension of under the weighted case.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to continue our investigations started in [15], where we studied the summability of weighted Lagrange interpolation on the roots of orthogonal polynomials with respect to a weight function w. Starting from the Lagrange interpolation polynomials we constructed a wide class of discrete processes which are uniformly convergent in a suitable Banach space (C ρ, ‖·‖ρ) of continuous functions (ρ denotes (another) weight). In [15] we formulated several conditions with respect to w, ρ, (C ρ, ‖·‖ρ) and to summation methods for which the uniform convergence holds. The goal of this part is to study the special case when w and ρ are Freud-type weights. We shall show that the conditions of results of [15] hold in this case. The order of convergence will also be considered.  相似文献

There is a set of orthogonal polynomials {gn(x)} which plays a relevant role in the treatment of the case of anisotropic scattering in neutron-transport and radiative-transfer theories. They appear also in the spherical harmonics treatment of the isotropic scattering. These polynomials are orthogonal with respect to a weight function which is continuous in the interval [−1, + 1] and has a finite number of symmetric Dirac masses. Although some other structural properties of these polynomials (e.g., the three-term recurrence relation) as well as some properties of their zeros have been published, much more need to be known. In particular, neither the second-order differential equation nor the density of zeros (i.e., the number of zeros per unit of interval) of the polynomial gn(x) have been found. Here we obtain the second-order differential equation in the case that these polynomials are hypergeometric, so leaving open the general case. Furthermore, the exact expressions of the moments around the origin of the density of zeros of gn(x) are given in the general case. The asymptotic density of zeros is also pointed out. Finally, these polynomials are shown to belong to the Nevai's class.  相似文献

This paper provides with a generalization of the work by Chelyshkov (Electron. Trans. Numer. Anal. 25(7): 17–26, 2006), who has introduced sequences of orthogonal polynomials over [0,1] which can be expressed in terms of Jacobi polynomials. We develop a new approach of product integration algorithm based on these orthogonal polynomials including the numerical quadratures for solving the nonlinear weakly singular Volterra integral equations. The convergence analysis of the proposed scheme is derived and numerical results are given showing a marked improvement in comparison with recent numerical methods.  相似文献

Jack polynomials in superspace, orthogonal with respect to a “combinatorial” scalar product, are constructed. They are shown to coincide with the Jack polynomials in superspace, orthogonal with respect to an “analytical” scalar product, introduced in [P. Desrosiers, L. Lapointe, P. Mathieu, Jack polynomials in superspace, Comm. Math. Phys. 242 (2003) 331-360] as eigenfunctions of a supersymmetric quantum mechanical many-body problem. The results of this article rely on generalizing (to include an extra parameter) the theory of classical symmetric functions in superspace developed recently in [P. Desrosiers, L. Lapointe, P. Mathieu, Classical symmetric functions in superspace, J. Algebraic Combin. 24 (2006) 209-238].  相似文献

Using a particular way of normalizing the orthogonal polynomials, which is most commonly encountered in the synthesis of filtering networks in communication and electronic engineering, two theorems concerning the extremal properties of orthogonal polynomials are first proved. The results are then applied to find the minimum value and the minimizing function for various definite integrals involving weight functions of classical orthogonal polynomials.  相似文献

We consider Koornwinder’s method for constructing orthogonal polynomials in two variables from orthogonal polynomials in one variable. If semiclassical orthogonal polynomials in one variable are used, then Koornwinder’s construction generates semiclassical orthogonal polynomials in two variables. We consider two methods for deducing matrix Pearson equations for weight functions associated with these polynomials, and consequently, we deduce the second order linear partial differential operators for classical Koornwinder polynomials.  相似文献

We characterize the orthogonal polynomials in a class of polynomials defined through their generating functions. This led to three new systems of orthogonal polynomials whose generating functions and orthogonality relations involve elliptic functions. The Hamburger moment problems associated with these polynomials are indeterminate. We give infinite families of weight functions in each case. The different polynomials treated in this work are also polynomials in a parameter and as functions of this parameter they are orthogonal with respect to unique measures, which we find explicitly. Through a quadratic transformation we find a new exactly solvable birth and death process with quartic birth and death rates.  相似文献

Orthogonal polynomials with respect to a weight function defined on a wedge in the plane are studied. A basis of orthogonal polynomials is explicitly constructed for two large class of weight functions and the convergence of Fourier orthogonal expansions is studied. These are used to establish analogous results for orthogonal polynomials on the boundary of the square. As an application, we study the statistics of the associated determinantal point process and use the basis to calculate Stieltjes transforms.

The authors present six general integral formulas (four definite integrals and two contour inegrals) for theH-function of several complex variables, which was introduced and studied in a series of earlier papers by H. M. Srivastava and R. Panda (cf., e.g., [25] through [29]; see also [14] through [18], [20], [24], [32], [34], [35], [37], and [38]). Each of these integral formulas involves a product of the multivariableH-function and a general class of polynomials with essentially arbitrary coefficients which were considered elsewhere by H. M. Srivastava [21]. By assigning suiatble special values to these coefficients, the main results (contained in Theorems 1, 2 and 3 below) can be reduced to integrals involving the classical orthogonal polynomials including, for example, Hermite, Jacobi [and, of course, Gegenbauer (or ultraspherical), Legendre, and Tchebycheff], and Laguerre polynomials, the Bessel polynomials considered by H. L. Krall and O. Frink [9], and such other classes of generalized hypergeometric polynomials as those studied earlier by F. Brafman [3] and by H. W. Gould and A. T. Hopper [8]. On the other hand, the multivariableH-functions occurring in each of our main results can be reduced, under various special cases, to such simpler functions as the generalized Lauricella hypergeometric functions of several complex variables [due to H. M. Srivastava and M. C. Daoust (cf. [22] and [23])] which indeed include a great many of the useful functions (or the products of several such functions) of hypergeometric type (in one and more variables) as their particular cases (see,e. g., [1], [10] and [39]). Many of the aforementioned applications of our integral formulas (contained in Theorems 1, 2 and 3 below) are considered briefly. Further usefulness of some of these consequences of Theorems 1 and 2 in terms of the classical orthogonal polynomials is illustrated by considering a simple problem involving the orthogonal expansion of the multivariableH-function in series of Jacobi polynomials. It is also shown how these general integrals are related to a number of results scattered in the literature. 0261 0262 V  相似文献

This paper deals with some qualitative properties of orthogonal polynomials in several variables. The boundedness and relations between two sets of orthonormal polynomials associated with an arbitrary weight function and its extension are investigated. It presents an analogy to Korous' result for general orthogonal polynomials in one variable.  相似文献
