The performance of an ultrasound reactor chamber relies on the sound pressure level achieved throughout the system. The active volume of a high frequency ultrasound chamber can be determined by the sound pressure penetration and distribution provided by the transducers. This work evaluated the sound pressure levels and uniformity achieved in water by selected commercial scale high frequency plate transducers without and with reflector plates. Sound pressure produced by ultrasonic plate transducers vertically operating at frequencies of 400 kHz (120 W) and 2 MHz (128 W) was characterized with hydrophones in a 2 m long chamber and their effective operating distance across the chamber’s vertical cross section was determined. The 2 MHz transducer produced the highest pressure amplitude near the transducer surface, with a sharp decline of approximately 40% of the sound pressure occurring in the range between 55 and 155 mm from the transducer. The placement of a reflector plate 500 mm from the surface of the transducer was shown to improve the sound pressure uniformity of 2 MHz ultrasound. Ultrasound at 400 kHz was found to penetrate the fluid up to 2 m without significant losses. Furthermore, 400 kHz ultrasound generated a more uniform sound pressure distribution regardless of the presence or absence of a reflector plate. The choice of the transducer distance to the opposite reactor wall therefore depends on the transducer plate frequency selected. Based on pressure measurements in water, large scale 400 kHz reactor designs can consider larger transducer distance to opposite wall and larger active cross-section, and therefore can reach higher volumes than when using 2 MHz transducer plates.  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental arrangement for detection of artificial subsurface defects in a stainless steel sample by means of thermal wave imaging with lock-in thermography and consequently, the impact of excitation frequency on defect detectability. The experimental analysis was performed at several excitation frequencies to observe the sample beginning from 0.18 Hz all the way down to 0.01 Hz. The phase contrast between the defective and sound regions illustrates the qualitative and quantitative investigation of defects. The two, three, four and five-step phase shifting methods are investigated to obtain the information on defects. A contrast to noise ratio analysis was applied to each phase shifting method allowing the choice of the most appropriate one. Phase contrast with four-step phase shifting at an optimum frequency of 0.01 Hz provides excellent results. The inquiry with the effect of defect size and depth on phase contrast shows that phase contrast decreases with increase in defect depth and increases with the increase in defect size.  相似文献

A liquid stub tuner was developed to transmit a MW level of RF power continuously in the KSTAR (Korean Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research) ICRF (ion cyclotron range of frequencies) heating and current drive systems. It is made of a 9–3/16″ coaxial transmission line, and the property of the RF wavelength difference in a liquid and in a gas due to their different dielectric constants is utilized. Silicon oil with a relative dielectric constant of 2.74 was used as the liquid, because of its low vapor pressure and low dielectric loss. The liquid stub tuner components were equipped with electrostatic probes, thermocouples, and a humidity sensor to measure the RF voltages, the liquid temperature, and the humidity in the coaxial transmission line, respectively. The level of the liquid for the liquid stub tuner can be changed from 0 to 2.8 m, which corresponds to 2.0 m mechanical length variation at 30 MHz. The RF power test of the liquid stub tuner was performed with various conditioned silicon oils at 30 MHz to compare the high voltage characteristics among various conditioned silicon oils. The stand-off voltage of 43.82 kV (average) was achieved for the liquid stub tuner during the 300 s operation.  相似文献

The process of synthesis of carbon fiber from hydrocarbon vapours in low-current electrical-discharge plasma was investigated in the paper. The carbon fibers were effectively synthesised in discharge of positive polarity generated between a stainless steel needle and a plate made of nickel alloy, for the discharge current ranged from 1 mA up to 3 mA. The experiments were carried out at normal pressure in cyclohexane vapours with argon as carrier gas. The diameter of produced fibers varied from about 20 to 70 μm. The growth rate of the fiber was about 0.25 mm/s.  相似文献

In this paper, the frequency agile antennas made using aluminum nitride ceramic substrate are investigated theoretically and experimentally. The aluminum nitride ceramic substrates are prepared by pressing and sintering aluminum nitride powders. The operating frequency of antenna is designed to operate at 2.45 and 5.80 GHz. The shape of the patch attaching on the aluminum nitride substrate was rectangular form, and the dc bias is applied between patch and ground plane. This simple technique is used to implement electronically tunable antenna. Deformation of the antenna due to the applied dc bias is obtained as the computation of thickness and extension strains. The simulated frequency shifts at 2.45 and 5.80 GHz, are 7.42 and 7.70 MHz, and the experimentally measured frequency shifts at the same frequencies are 7.50 and 8.50 MHz, respectively. The theoretically simulated results show an average error of less than 4.45% compared with the experimental results.  相似文献

Hollow microcapsules have been considered for potential applications as drug or gene carriers. This paper describes an investigation into the mechanical properties of microcapsules with a biocompatible polylactic acid (PLA) shell that can be destroyed using ultrasound irradiation. The microcapsules had a radius of 1 to 25 μm and a shell thickness of 100 nm to 3 μm, and their response to ultrasound pulses with a center frequency of 700 kHz to 2 MHz was investigated. It was found that approximately 50% of capsules with a radius of 20 μm were destroyed using pulses with a pressure amplitude of 50 kPa and a frequency of 700 kHz, which is close to the resonance frequency of the capsules.  相似文献

The formation of metallic particulates from erosion was investigated by running a series of transducers at various frequencies in water. Two low frequency transducer sonotrodes were run for 7.5 h at 18 kHz and 20 kHz. Three high frequency plates operating at megasonic frequencies of 0.4 MHz, 1 MHz, and 2 MHz were run over a 7 days period. Electrical conductivity and pH of the solution were measured before and after each run. A portion of the non-sonicated and treated water was partially evaporated to achieve an 80-fold concentration of particles and then sieved through nano-filters of 0.1 μm, 0.05 μm, and 0.01 μm. An aliquot of the evaporated liquid was also completely dried on strips of carbon tape to determine the presence of finer particles post sieving. An aliquot was analyzed for detection of 11 trace elements by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscopy (ICPMS). The filters and carbon tapes were analyzed by FE-SEM imaging to track the presence of metals by EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy) and measure the particle size and approximate composition of individual particles detected. Light microscopy visualization was used to calculate the area occupied by the particles present in each filter and high resolution photography was used for visualization of sonotrode surfaces. The roughness of all transducers before and after sonication was tested through profilometry. No evidence of formation of nano-particles was found at any tested frequency. High amounts of metallic micron-sized particles at 18 kHz and 20 kHz formed within a day, while after 7 day runs only a few metallic micro particles were detected above 0.4 MHz. Erosion was corroborated by an increase in roughness in the 20 kHz tip after ultrasound. The elemental analysis showed that metal leach occurred but values remained below accepted drinking water limits, even after excessively long exposure to ultrasound. With the proviso that the particles measured here were only characterized in two dimensions and could be nanoparticulate in terms of the third dimension, this research suggests that there are no serious health implications resulting from the formation of nanoparticles under the evaluation conditions. Therefore, high frequency transducer plates can be safely operated in direct contact with foods. However, due to significant production of metallic micro-particulates, redesign of lower frequency sonotrodes and reaction chambers is advised to enable operation in various food processing direct-contact applications.  相似文献

Recent research has shown that high frequency ultrasound (0.4–3 MHz), can enhance milkfat separation in small scale systems able to treat only a few milliliters of sample. In this work, the effect of ultrasonic standing waves on milkfat creaming was studied in a 6 L reactor and the influence of different frequencies and transducer configurations in direct contact with the fluid was investigated. A recombined coarse milk emulsion with fat globules stained with oil-red-O dye was selected for the separation trials. Runs were performed with one or two transducers placed in vertical (parallel or perpendicular) and horizontal positions (at the reactor base) at 0.4, 1 and/or 2 MHz (specific energy 8.5 ± 0.6 kJ/kg per transducer). Creaming behavior was assessed by measuring the thickness of the separated cream layer. Other methods supporting this assessment included the measurement of fat content, backscattering, particle size distribution, and microscopy of samples taken at the bottom and top of the reactor. Most efficient creaming was found after treatment at 0.4 MHz in single and double vertical transducer configurations. Among these configurations, a higher separation rate was obtained when sonicating at 0.4 MHz in a vertical perpendicular double transducer setup. The horizontal transducer configuration promoted creaming at 2 MHz only. Fat globule size increase was observed when creaming occurred. This research highlights the potential for enhanced separation of milkfat in larger scale systems from selected transducer configurations in contact with a dairy emulsion, or emulsion splitting in general.  相似文献

Methodology for the study of dynamics in heteronuclear systems in the laboratory frame was described in the previous paper [1]. Now the methodology for the study of molecular dynamics in the solid state heteronuclear systems in the rotating frame is presented. The solid state NMR off-resonance experiments were carried out on a homemade pulse spectrometer operating at the frequency of 30.2 MHz for protons. This spectrometer includes a specially designed probe which contains two independently tuned and electrically isolated coils installed in the coaxial position on the dewar. A unique probe design allows working at three slightly differing frequencies off and on resonance for protons and at the frequency of 28.411 MHz for fluorine nuclei with complete absence of their electrical interference. The probe allows simultaneously creating rf magnetic fields at off-resonance frequencies within the range of 30.2–30.6 MHz and at the frequency of 28.411 MHz. Presented heteronuclear cross-relaxation off-resonance experiments in the rotating frame provide information about molecular dynamics.  相似文献

In this paper, the authors examine the effect of compressing a poroelastic fibrous layer lined with an isotropic plate on the sound transmission loss (TL). For this purpose, a 2-in. thick fibrous material and two isotropic plates with critical frequencies around 2300 Hz and 9700 Hz were used. The transfer matrix method was applied and the porous layer was assumed to have either a rigid, limp or elastic frame. Current models of compression are outlined, and measurements of the airflow resistivity as a function of compression show that these models are suitable only for low compression rates. TL predictions are compared next to experimental data in a range between 100 Hz and 10000 Hz for three compression rates, corresponding to 0%, 20% and 50%. The fibrous is uniformly compressed over 100% of its surface. Our experiments showed that compression reduces the TL by a maximum of 5 dB for a 50% compression, mainly at the mid-frequency range, around 800 Hz. This is due to a resonance in the thickness of the porous material, increasing the radiation efficiency of the structure at mid-frequencies. Moreover, reduction of the porous thickness and increase of the airflow resistivity with compression are the variations influencing the most the TL of the structure. These trends were also detected with the limp and rigid frame models but with a lower degree of accuracy compared to the elastic frame model.  相似文献

As sound and vibration fields in dwellings exhibit modal behaviour at frequencies below 200 Hz, a systematic investigation of measurement and prediction uncertainty associated with impact sound transmission at low frequencies must include the effects of: location of the impact, type of floor, edge conditions, floor and room dimensions, room absorption and position of the receiver. Experimentally validated analytical models, described in a companion paper, have been used in an extensive investigation of impact sound transmission through rectangular homogeneous concrete floors and floating floors. The models were used to describe the effect of modal coupling and then to perform parametric and statistical studies aimed to identify the main factors affecting low frequency impact sound transmission.  相似文献

Laser cutting characteristics including power level and cutting gas pressure are investigated in order to obtain an optimum kerf width. The kerf width is investigated for a laser power range of 50–170 W and a gas pressure of 1–6 bar for steel and mild steel materials. Variation of sample thickness, material type, gas pressure and laser power on the average cut width and slot quality are investigated. Optimum conditions for the steel and mild steel materials with a thickness range of 1–2 mm are obtained. The optimum condition for the steel cutting results in a minimum average kerf width of 0.2 mm at a laser power of 67 W, cutting rate of 7.1 mm/s and an oxygen pressure of 4 bar. A similar investigation for the mild steel cutting results in a minimum average kerf width of 0.3 mm at the same laser power of 67 W, cutting rate of 9.5 mm/s, and an oxygen pressure of 1 bar. The experimental average kerf is about 0.3 mm, which is approximately equal to the estimated focused beam diameter of 0.27 mm for our focusing lens (f=4 cm and 100 W power). This beam size leads to a laser intensity of about 1.74×109 W/m2 at the workpiece surface. The estimated cutting rate from theoretical calculation is about 8.07 mm/s (1.0 mm thickness and 100 W power), which agrees with the experimental results that is 7.1 mm/s for 1.0 mm thickness of mild steel at the laser power of 88 W.  相似文献

A compact flow-through plate silencer is constructed for low frequency noise control using new reinforced composite plates. The concept comes from the previous theoretical study [L. Huang, Journal of the Acoustical Society of America 119 (2006) 2628–2638] which concerns a clamped supported plate enclosed by rigid cavities. When the grazing incident sound wave comes and induces the plate into the vibration, it will radiate sound and reflect sound. Such sound reflection causes a desirable noise reduction from low to medium frequency with wide broadband. The structural property of the very light plate with high bending stiffness is very crucial element in such plate silencer. In this study, an approach to fabricate new reinforced composite panel with light weight and high flexibility to increase the bending stiffness is developed in order to realize the function of this plate silencer practically. The plate silencer can be constructed in more compact size compared with the previous two-plate silencer with two rectangular cavities and the performance with the stopband of the range from 229 to 618 Hz, in which the transmission loss is higher than 10 dB over the whole frequency band without flow or with flow at the speed of 15 m/s, can be achieved. The experimental data also proves that the non-uniform clamped plates with thinner ends perform very well. To implement the use of such silencer practically in controlling noise at different dominant frequency ranges, a design chart has been established for searching the optimal bending stiffness and corresponding stopband at different geometries.  相似文献

A reflection non-contact ultrasonic microscope system working both in amplitude and phase difference modes at 2 MHz has been developed using an air-coupled concave transducer made of piezoelectric polymer films of poly(vinylidene fluoride/trifluoroethylene) [P(VDF/TrFE)]. The transducer is composed of three 95 μm-thick P(VDF/TrFE) films stacked together, each of which is activated electrically in parallel by a driving source. The transducer has a wide aperture angle of 140° and a focal length of 10 mm. The measured two-way transducer insertion loss is 80 dB at 1.83 MHz. Despite 20 dB higher insertion loss than that estimated from Mason’s equivalent circuit, we have obtained clear amplitude acoustic images of a coin with transverse resolution of 150 μm, and clear phase difference acoustic images of the rough surface of a paper currency bill with depth resolution of sub-micrometer. Using two planar transducers of P(VDF/TrFE), we have also successfully measured in through-transmission mode the sound velocity and absorption of a 3 mm-thick silicone-rubber plate. The present study proves that, owing to its low acoustic impedance and flexibility, P(VDF/TrFE) piezoelectric film is very useful for high frequency acoustic imaging in air in the MHz range.  相似文献

Al–Si closed-cell aluminum foam sandwich panels (1240 mm × 1100 mm) of different thicknesses and different densities were prepared by molten body transitional foaming process in Northeastern University. The experiments were carried out to investigate the sound insulation property of Al–Si closed-cell aluminum foam sandwich panels of different thicknesses and different densities under different frequencies (100–4000 Hz). Results show that sound reduction index (R) is small under low frequencies, large under high frequencies; thickness affects the sound insulation property of material obviously: when the thicknesses of Al–Si closed-cell aluminum foam sandwich panels are 12, 22, and 32 mm, the corresponding weighted sound reduction indices (RW) are 26.3, 32.2, and 34.6 dB, respectively, the rising trend tempered; the increase of density of Al–Si closed-cell aluminum foam can also increase the sound insulation property: when the densities of aluminum foam are 0.31, 0.51, and 0.67 g/cm3, the corresponding weighted sound reduction indices (RW) are 28.9, 34.3, and 34.6 dB, the increasing value mitigating.  相似文献

In this work, high frequency and low power ultrasound without external heating source and mechanical stirring in biodiesel production were studied. Transesterification of soybean oil with methanol and catalyzed by KOH was investigated using ultrasound equipment and ultrasonic transducer. The effect of ultrasonic output power (3 W–9 W), ultrasonic frequency (1 MHz and 3 MHz), and alcohol to oil molar ratio (6:1 and 8:1) have been investigated. The increase in ultrasonic power provided higher conversion rates. In addition, higher conversion rates were obtained by increasing the ultrasonic frequency from 1 MHz to 3 MHz (48.7% to 79.5%) for the same reaction time. Results also indicate that the speed of sound can be used to evaluate the produced biodiesel qualitatively. Further, the ultrasound system presented electric consumption (46.2 W∙h) four times lower than achieved using the conventional method (211.7 W∙h and 212.3 W∙h). Thus, biodiesel production using low power ultrasound in the MHz frequency range is a promising technology that could contribute to biodiesel production processes.  相似文献

The present work focuses on possible heat transfer enhancement from a heating plate towards tap water in forced convection by means of 2 MHz ultrasound. The thermal approach allows to observe the increase of local convective heat transfer coefficients in the presence of ultrasound and to deduce a correlation between ultrasound power and Nusselt number. Heat transfer coefficient under ultrasound remains constant while heat transfer coefficient under silent conditions increases with Reynolds number from 900 up to 5000. Therefore, heat transfer enhancement factor ranges from 25% up to 90% for the same energy conditions (supplied ultrasonic power = 110 W and supplied thermal power = 450 W). In the same time cavitational activity due to 2 MHz ultrasound emission was characterized from mechanical and chemical viewpoints without significant results. At least, Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) measurements have been performed in order to investigate hydrodynamic modifications due to the presence of 2 MHz ultrasound. It was therefore possible to propose a better understanding of heat transfer enhancement mechanism with high frequency ultrasound.  相似文献

We have implemented the so-called λ-Zeeman technique (LZT) to investigate individual hyperfine transitions between Zeeman sublevels of the Rb atoms in a strong external magnetic field B in the range of 2500 ? 5000 G (recently it was established that LZT is very convenient for the range of 10 ? 2500 G). Atoms are confined in a nanometric thin cell (NTC) with the thickness L = λ, where λ is the resonant wavelength 794 nm for Rb D1 line. Narrow velocity selective optical pumping (VSOP) resonances in the transmission spectrum of the NTC are split into several components in a magnetic field with the frequency positions and transition probabilities depending on the B-field. Possible applications are described, such as magnetometers with nanometric local spatial resolution and tunable atomic frequency references.  相似文献

Re-Active Passive devices have been developed to control low-frequency (<1000 Hz) noise transmission through a panel. These devices use a combination of active, re-active, and passive technologies packaged into a single unit to control a broad frequency range utilizing the strength of each technology over its best suited frequency range. The Re-Active Passive device uses passive constrained layer damping to cover relatively high-frequency range (>150 Hz), reactive distributed vibration absorber to cover the medium-frequency range (50–200  Hz), and active control for controlling low frequencies (<150 Hz). The actuator was applied to control noise transmission through a panel mounted in the Transmission Loss Test Facility at Virginia Tech. Experimental results are presented for the bare panel, and combinations of passive treatment, reactive treatment, and active control. Results indicate that three Re-Active Passive devices were able to increase the overall broadband (15–1000 Hz) transmission loss by 9.4 dB. These three devices added a total of 285 g to the panel mass of 6.0 kg, or approximately 5%, not including control electronics.  相似文献
