Microwave-accelerated Synthesis of Some (±)-1-Aryl-5-chloroisochromans

Solventless one-pot synthesis of some new (±)-1-aryl-5-chloroisochromans by cyclocondensation of 2-(2-chlorophenyl)ethanol with aromatic aldehydes via an acid catalyzed oxa-Pictet-Spengler reaction under microwave irradiation is described.     

Pictet‐Spengler Condensation of N,N‐Dimethylsulfamoyl‐β‐Phenethylamines with Methylthioacetic Acid Ethyl Ester. New Synthesis of Ethyl 1,2,3,4‐Tetrahydroisoquinoline‐1‐Carboxylates

The reaction of N,N‐dimethylsulfamoyl‐β‐phenethylamines with methylthioacetic acid ethyl ester using phenyliodine(III) bis(trifluoroacetate) gives moderate to good yields of the corresponding ethyl 1,2,3,4‐tetrahydroisoquinoline‐1‐carboxylates.     

Ionic Liquid‐coordinated Ytterbium(III) Sulfonate Catalyzed Michael Addition of Indoles to Electron‐deficient Nitroolefins

The Michael addition of indoles to electron‐deficient nitroolefins was effectively catalyzed by an ionic liquid‐coordinated ytterbium(III) sulfonate catalyst. The recycling procedure of the catalyst was very simple without extraction with water, and the catalyst was reused for five times without any loss of its catalytic activity. Furthermore, to demonstrate the application of this methodology, the Pictet‐Spengler reaction was chosen and successfully carried out in the mixture of Br?nsted‐acidic ionic liquid and [bmim]BF₄.
