We consider upper-triangular 2-by-2 operator matrices and are interested in the set that has to be added to certain spectra of the matrix in order to get the union of the corresponding spectra of the two diagonal operators. We show that in the cases of the Browder essential approximate point spectrum, the upper semi-Fredholm spectrum, or the lower semi-Fredholm spectrum the set in question need not to be an open set but may be just a singleton. In addition, we modify and extend known results on Hilbert space operators to operators on Banach spaces.  相似文献

The main goal of this paper is to prove that Fredholm and semi-Fredholm operators between p-adic (or non-archimedean) Banach spaces, as well as the index of those that are Fredholm, are preserved when they are perturbed by a small operator. In this way we obtain the non-archimedean counterparts of some well-known results of classical Operator Theory. For non-spherically complete fields the classical techniques are no longer valid in the p-adic context, which forces us to seek a completely different way to attack the problem. The p-adic concept of orthogonality will be one of the key tools to get our purpose.  相似文献

For J‐hermitian operators on a Krein space satisfying an adequate Fredholm property, a global Krein signature is shown to be a homotopy invariant. It is argued that this global signature is a generalization of the Noether index. When the Krein space has a supplementary Real structure, the sets of J‐hermitian Fredholm operators with Real symmetry can be retracted to certain of the classifying spaces of Atiyah and Singer. Secondary ‐invariants are introduced to label their connected components. Related invariants are also analyzed for J‐unitary operators.  相似文献

Fredholm criteria and index formulas are established for Wiener-Hopf operators W(a) with semi-almost periodic matrix symbols a on weighted Lebesgue spaces where 1 < p < ∞, w belongs to a subclass of Muckenhoupt weights and . We also study the invertibility of Wiener-Hopf operators with almost periodic matrix symbols on . In the case N = 1 we also obtain a semi-Fredholm criterion for Wiener-Hopf operators with semi-almost periodic symbols and, for another subclass of weights, a Fredholm criterion for Wiener-Hopf operators with semi-periodic symbols. The Fredholmness of a band-dominated operator on is closely related with the invertibility of its limit operators: the operator is Fredholm if and only if each of its limit operators is invertible and if the norms of their inverses are uniformly bounded. The goal of the present note is to show how the Fredholm index of a Fredholm band-dominated operator can be determined in terms of its limit operators.  相似文献

We analyze the essential sectrum and index theory of elements of Toeplitz-composition C*-algebras (algebras generated by the Toeplitz algebra and a single linear-fractional composition operator, acting on the Hardy space of the unit disk). For automorphic composition operators we show that the quotient of the Toeplitz-composition algebra by the compacts is isomorphic to the crossed product C*-algebra for the action of the symbol on the boundary circle. Using this result we obtain sufficient conditions for polynomial elements of the algebra to be Fredholm, by analyzing the spectrum of elements of the crossed product. We also obtain an integral formula for the Fredholm index in terms of a generalized Chern character. Finally we prove an index formula for the case of the non-parabolic, non-automorphic linear fractional maps studied by Kriete, MacCluer and Moorhouse.  相似文献

Abstract

Since 1970 a number of operational quantities, characteristic of either the semi-Fredholm operators or of some “ideal” of compact-like operators, have been introduced in the theory of bounded operators between Banach spaces and applied successfully to for example perturbation theory. More recently such quantities have been introduced even in the abstract setting of Fredholm theory in a von Neumann algebra relative to some closed two-sided ideal. We show that in this fairly general setting there is only one “reasonable” set of such quantities—a result which in its present form is to the best of our knowledge new even in the case of B(H), the algebra of all bounded operators on a Hilbert space H. We accomplish this by first of all introducing the concept of a (reduced) minimum modulus in the setting of C*-algebras and developing the relevant techniques. A connection between the spatial characteristics of operators and the algebraic invariants of the corresponding coherent sheaves is investigated. We study the Fredholm theory for pairs of closed subspaces of a Banach space developed by Kato. We define the strictly singular and the strictly cosingular pairs of subspaces, and we show that some of the results of operator theory can be extended to this context. However, there are some notable differences. On the one hand, the perturbation classes problem has a positive answer in this context: the upper and lower semi-Fredholm pairs are stable under strictly singular and strictly cosingular perturbations, respectively, and this stability characterizes the strictly singular and the strictly cosingular pairs. Note that it has been proved recently that the perturbation classes problem for continuous semi-Fredholm operators has a negative answer. On the other hand, unlike in the case of operators, the Fredholm pairs are not stable under perturbation by strictly singular or strictly cosingular pairs. We also show the stability under composition of the compact, the strictly singular and the strictly cosingular pairs of subspaces.  相似文献

The relations between the kernels, as well as the cokernels, of Toeplitz operators are studied in connection with certain relations between their symbols. Buckholtz (Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 128 (2000), 1415–1418) gave necessary and sufficient conditions for the invertibility of the difference of two orthogonal projections in a Hilbert space. Finite interval convolution operators with periodic kernel-functions are studied from the point of view of Fredholm properties and invertibility. These operators are associated with Wiener-Hopf operators with matrix-valued symbols defined on a space of functions whose domain is a contour consisting of two parallel straight-lines. For the Fredholm study a Wiener-Hopf operator is considered on a space of functions defined on a contour composed of two closed curves having a common multiple point. In this paper operator-valued Q-functions of Krein-Ovcharenko type are introduced. Such functions arise from the extension theory of Hermitian contractive operators A in a Hilbert space ℌ. The definition is related to the investigations of M.G. Krein and I.E. Ovcharenko of the so-called Qμ- and QM-functions. It turns out that their characterizations of such functions hold true only in the matrix valued case. The present paper extends the corresponding properties for wider classes of selfadjoint contractive extensions of A. For this purpose some peculiar but fundamental properties on the behaviour of operator ranges of positive operators will be used. Also proper characterizations for Qμ- and QM-functions in the general operator-valued case are given. Shorted operators and parallel sums of positive operators will be needed to give a geometric understanding of the function-theoretic properties of the corresponding Q-functions.  相似文献

We investigate frequently hypercyclic and chaotic linear operators from a measure-theoretic point of view. Among other things, we show that any frequently hypercyclic operator T acting on a reflexive Banach space admits an invariant probability measure with full support, which may be required to vanish on the set of all periodic vectors for T  ; that there exist frequently hypercyclic operators on the sequence space c0c0 admitting no ergodic measure with full support; and that if an operator admits an ergodic measure with full support, then it has a comeager set of distributionally irregular vectors. We also give some necessary and sufficient conditions (which are satisfied by all the known chaotic operators) for an operator T to admit an invariant measure supported on the set of its hypercyclic vectors and belonging to the closed convex hull of its periodic measures. Finally, we give a Baire category proof of the fact that any operator with a perfectly spanning set of unimodular eigenvectors admits an ergodic measure with full support.  相似文献

It is well known that amplitude modulation does not affect Fredholmness of Toeplitz operators. The same is true for frequency modulation provided the symbol of the operator is piecewise continuous. In this article, it is shown that frequency modulation can destroy Fredholmness for Toeplitz operators with almost periodic symbols; the corresponding example is based on the observation that certain almost periodic functions become semi-almost periodic functions after appropriate frequency modulation. Moreover, this article contains several results that can be employed in order to decide whether a Toeplitz operator with a frequency modulated semi-almost periodic symbol is Fredholm.  相似文献

Let A be a standard operator algebra on a complex Hilbert space H of dimension greater than 2. By invariants of certain functional values of operator products, we characterize some surjective maps on A. Furthermore, several kinds of general preserver problems on standard operator algebras are solved when we take respectively the functional as, for example, k-numerical radius (k?1), operator norm, Ky Fan k-norm, Schatten p-norm (1?p<), and so on.  相似文献
