We prove that any affine, resp. polarized projective, spherical variety admits a flat degeneration to an affine, resp. polarized projective, toric variety. Motivated by mirror symmetry, we give conditions for the limit toric variety to be a Gorenstein Fano, and provide many examples. We study a version of Whitney’s embedding problem in projective geometry: What is the smallest dimension of an affine space that can contain an n-dimensional submanifold without any pairs of parallel or intersecting tangent lines at distinct points? This problem is related to the generalized vector field problem, existence of non-singular bilinear maps, and the immersion problem for real projective spaces. We use these connections and other methods to obtain several specific and general bounds for the desired dimension.  相似文献

The Zariski theorem says that for every hypersurface in a complex projective (resp. affine) space and for every generic plane in the projective (resp. affine) space the natural embedding generates an isomorphism of the fundamental groups of the complements to the hypersurface in the plane and in the space. If a family of hypersurfaces depends algebraically on parameters then it is not true in general that there exists a plane such that the natural embedding generates an isomorphism of the fundamental groups of the complements to each hypersurface from this family in the plane and in the space. But we show that in the affine case such a plane exists after a polynomial coordinate substitution. The research was partially supported by an NSA grant.  相似文献

We show that the automorphisms of the flag space associated with a 3-dimensional projective space can be characterized as bijections preserving a certain binary relation on the set of flags in both directions. From this we derive that there are no other automorphisms of the flag space than those coming from collineations and dualities of the underlying projective space. Further, for a commutative ground field, we discuss the corresponding flag variety and characterize its group of automorphic collineations.  相似文献

The Cayley-Bacharach Property (CBP), which has been classically stated as a property of a finite set of points in an affine or projective space, is extended to arbitrary 0-dimensional affine algebras over arbitrary base fields. We present characterizations and explicit algorithms for checking the CBP directly, via the canonical module, and in combination with the property of being a locally Gorenstein ring. Moreover, we characterize strict Gorenstein rings by the CBP and the symmetry of their affine Hilbert function, as well as by the strict CBP and the last difference of their affine Hilbert function.  相似文献

We study the generalized and extended weight enumerator of the q-ary Simplex code and the q-ary first order Reed-Muller code. For our calculations we use that these codes correspond to a projective system containing all the points in a finite projective or affine space. As a result from the geometric method we use for the weight enumeration, we also completely determine the set of supports of subcodes and words in an extension code.  相似文献

An R(1,2) regulus is a collection of q+1 mutually skew planes in PG(5,q) with the property that a line meeting three of the planes must meet all the planes. An (l,π)-configuration is the collection of lines in PG(4,q) meeting a line l and a plane π skew to l. A correspondence between (l,π)-configurations in PG(4-,q) and R(1,2) reguli in the associated Grassmanian space G(1,4) is examined. Bose has shown that R(1,2) reguli represent Baer subplanes of a Desarguesian projective plane in a linear representation of the plane. With the purpose of examining the relations between two Baer subplanes of PG(2,q2), the author examines the possible intersections of a 3-flat with an R(1,2) regulus.  相似文献

Sylvester-Gallai configurations in affine and projective spaces studied by Motzkin lead naturally to an abstraction which we call Sylvester-Gallai designs. We systematically catalog such designs of fourteen or fewer points and study their possible plane affine and projective embeddings. On the T(M) of a complete irreducible Riemann manifold, every projective collineation is affine. Consider a distribution of a plane in a projective space. A way of defining a plane affine Stolyarov connection associated with this distribution is proposed. It is set by the field of a connection object consisting of a connection quasitensor and a linear connection object. The object of this generalized affine connection defines torsion and curvature objects. We show that these objects are tensors. Conditions under which a plane affine Stolyarov connection is torsion-free or curvature-free are described. It is proved that the generalized affine connection with the connection quasitensor is the generalized Kronecker symbol degenerated into a linear connection.  相似文献

Summary We present a nonconstructive method which uses intersection numbers and linear space theory for proving the existence of projective embeddings of suitable algebraic schemes, and we apply it to establish Chevalley's conjecture that a complete nonsingular variety such that any finite number of points is contained in an open affine subset is projective.
