We study the homology of gauge groups associated with principal SU(n) bundles over the four-sphere. After computing the mod p homology of based gauge groups of SU(n) by combined use of the Serre spectral sequence and the Eilenberg-Moore spectral sequence, we compute the modp homology of gauge groups of SU(n) using the Serre spectral sequence for the evaluation fibration.  相似文献

We study the mod 2 homology of the double and triple loop spaces of homogeneous spaces associated with exceptional Lie groups. The main computational tools are the Serre spectral sequence for fibrations Ωn+1GΩn+1(G/H)→ΩnH for n=1,2, and the Eilenberg-Moore spectral sequence associated with related fiber squares, which both converge to the same destination space H(Ωn(G/H);F2). We also develop the generalized Bockstein lemma to determine the higher Bockstein actions.  相似文献

In this article, we deal with the following two questions. For smooth actions of a given finite group G on spheres S, which smooth manifolds F occur as the fixed point sets in S, and which real G-vector bundles ν over F occur as the equivariant normal bundles of F in S? We focus on the case G is an Oliver group and answer both questions under some conditions imposed on G, F, and ν. We construct smooth actions of G on spheres by making use of equivariant surgery, equivariant thickening, and Oliver's equivariant bundle extension method modified by an equivariant wegde sum construction and an equivariant bundle subtraction procedure.  相似文献

We prove that the homotopy type ofBG 2 is determined by its mod 2 cohomology as well as by its Weyl group data. The author is partially supported by DGICYT grant PB94-0725.  相似文献

Let f, g : M N be two maps between two compact nilmanifolds with dim M dim N = n. In this paper, we show that either the Nielsen coincidence number N(f, g) = 0 or N(f, g) = R(f, g) where R(f, g) denotes the Reidemeister number of f and g. Furthermore, we show that if N(f, g) > 0 then the primary obstruction on(f, g) to deforming f and g to be coincidence free on the n-th skeleton of M is non-trivial.Received: 30 April 2004; revised: 20 July 2004  相似文献

Let ξ be a smooth vector bundle over a differentiable manifold M. Let be a generic bundle morphism from the trivial bundle of rank ni+1 to ξ. We give a geometric construction of the Stiefel-Whitney classes when ξ is a real vector bundle, and of the Chern classes when ξ is a complex vector bundle. Using h we define a differentiable closed manifold and a map whose image is the singular set of h. The ith characteristic class of ξ is the Poincaré dual of the image, under the homomorphism induced in homology by ?, of the fundamental class of the manifold . We extend this definition for vector bundles over a paracompact space, using that the universal bundle is filtered by smooth vector bundles.  相似文献

Let p be an odd prime. Let be the fibre space induced from an H-map where K is a generalized Eilenberg MacLane space and X is a simply connected H-space. Such spaces occur frequently in Postnikov towers and connective covers. In this paper, we compute the mod p cohomology of as a ring. The ring depends on the structure of imf* and the structure of subkerf* as modules over the Steenrod algebra.  相似文献

We continue the analysis started by Abreu, McDuff and Anjos of the topology of the group of symplectomorphisms of S2×S2 when the ratio of the area of the two spheres lies in the interval (1,2]. We express the group, up to homotopy, as the pushout (or amalgam) of certain of its compact Lie subgroups. We use this to compute the homotopy type of the classifying space of the group of symplectomorphisms and the corresponding ring of characteristic classes for symplectic fibrations.  相似文献

We prove a collapse theorem for the Eilenberg–Moore spectral sequence and as an application we show that under certain conditions the cohomology of a homogeneous space of a connected finite loop space with a maximal rank torsion free subgroup is concentrated in even degrees and torsionfree, generalizing classical theorems for compact Lie groups of Borel and Bott.  相似文献

Let X be a homotopy associative mod p H-space for p an odd prime. The homology H*(X;Fp) is an associative ring, but not necessarily commutative. We study conditions when for elements of H*(X;Fp). Under certain conditions imply for l=p−2 or p−1. These methods can be used to prove results about homology commutators that were previously obtained using the adjoint action [H. Hamanaka, S. Hara, A. Kono, Adjoint action of Lie groups on the loop spaces and cohomology of exceptional Lie groups, Transform. Group Theory (1996) 44-50, Korea Adv. Inst. Sci. Tech.; A. Kono, K. Kozima, The adjoint action of a Lie group on the space of loops, J. Math. Soc. Japan 45 (3) (1993) 495-509; A. Kono, J. Lin, O. Nishimura, Characterization of the mod 3 cohomology of E7, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 131 (10) (2003) 3289-3295]. We also generalize results of Kane [R. Kane, Torsion in homotopy associative H-spaces, Illinois J. Math. 20 (1976) 476-485] to nonfinite mod p homotopy associative H-spaces.  相似文献

We develop a duality theory for localizations in the context of ring spectra in algebraic topology. We apply this to prove a theorem in the modular representation theory of finite groups.Let G be a finite group and k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic p. If p is a homogeneous nonmaximal prime ideal in H(G,k), then there is an idempotent module κp which picks out the layer of the stable module category corresponding to p, and which was used by Benson, Carlson and Rickard [D.J. Benson, J.F. Carlson, J. Rickard, Thick subcategories of the stable module category, Fund. Math. 153 (1997) 59-80] in their development of varieties for infinitely generated kG-modules. Our main theorem states that the Tate cohomology is a shift of the injective hull of H(G,k)/p as a graded H(G,k)-module. Since κp can be constructed using a version of the stable Koszul complex, this can be viewed as a statement of localized Gorenstein duality in modular representation theory. Various consequences of this theorem are given, including the statement that the stable endomorphism ring of the module κp is the p-completion of cohomology , and the statement that κp is a pure injective kG-module.In the course of proving the theorem, we further develop the framework introduced by Dwyer, Greenlees and Iyengar [W.G. Dwyer, J.P.C. Greenlees, S. Iyengar, Duality in algebra and topology, Adv. Math. 200 (2006) 357-402] for translating between the unbounded derived categories and . We also construct a functor to the full stable module category, which extends the usual functor and which preserves Tate cohomology. The main theorem is formulated and proved in , and then translated to and finally to .The main theorem in can be viewed as stating that a version of Gorenstein duality holds after localizing at a prime ideal in H(BG;k). This version of the theorem holds more generally for a compact Lie group satisfying a mild orientation condition. This duality lies behind the local cohomology spectral sequence of Greenlees and Lyubeznik for localizations of H(BG;k).In a companion paper [D.J. Benson, Idempotent kG-modules with injective cohomology, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 212 (7) (2008) 1744-1746], a more recent and shorter proof of the main theorem is given. The more recent proof seems less natural, and does not say anything about localization of the Gorenstein condition for compact Lie groups.  相似文献

Let α(d) denote the number of ones in the binary expansion of d. For 1?k?α(d) we prove that the 2(d+α(d)−k)+1-dimensional, 2k-torsion lens space does not immerse in a Euclidian space of dimension 4d−2α(d) provided certain technical condition holds. The extra hypothesis is easily eliminated in the case k=1 recovering Davis’ strong non-immersion theorem for real projective spaces. For k>1 this is a deeper problem (solved only in part) that requires a close analysis of the interaction between the Brown-Peterson 2-series and its 2k analogue. The methods are based on a partial generalization of the Brown-Peterson version for the Conner-Floyd conjecture used in this context to detect obstructions for the existence of Euclidian immersions.  相似文献

This work solves the problem of elaborating Ganea and Whitehead definitions for the tangential category of a foliated manifold. We develop these two notions in the category S-Top of stratified spaces, that are topological spaces X endowed with a partition F and compare them to a third invariant defined by using open sets. More precisely, these definitions apply to an element (X,F) of S-Top together with a class A of subsets of X; they are similar to invariants introduced by M. Clapp and D. Puppe. If (X,F)∈S-Top, we define a transverse subset as a subspace A of X such that the intersection SA is at most countable for any SF. Then we define the Whitehead and Ganea LS-categories of the stratified space by taking the infimum along the transverse subsets. When we have a closed manifold, endowed with a C1-foliation, the three previous definitions, with A the class of transverse subsets, coincide with the tangential category and are homotopical invariants.  相似文献
