The results of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations in two and three spatial dimensions are compared to pressure measurements and particle image velocimetry (PIV) flow surveys to assess the suitability of numerical models for the simulation of deep dynamic stall experiments carried out on a pitching NACA 23012 airfoil. A sinusoidal pitching motion with a 10° amplitude and a reduced frequency of 0.1 is imposed around two different mean angles of attack of 10° and 15°. The comparison of the airloads curves and of the pressure distribution over the airfoil surface shows that a three-dimensional numerical model can better reproduce the flow structures and the airfoil performance for the deep dynamic stall regime. Also, the vortical structures observed by PIV in the flow field are better captured by the three-dimensional model. This feature highlighted the relevance of three-dimensional effects on the flow field in deep dynamic stall.  相似文献

This paper addresses by means of high-resolution numerical simulations and experimental quantitative imaging the three-dimensional unsteady separation process induced by large-amplitude heaving oscillations of a low-aspect-ratio wing under low-Reynolds-number conditions. Computed results are found to be in good agreement with experimental flow visualizations and PIV measurements on selected cross-flow planes. The complex unsteady three-dimensional flow structure generated during dynamic stall of the low-aspect-ratio wing is elucidated. The process is characterized by the generation of a leading-edge vortex system which is pinned at the front corners of the plate and which exhibits intense transverse flow toward the wing centerline during its initial stages of development. This vortex detaches from the corners and evolves into an newly found arch-type structure. The legs of the arch vortex move along the surface toward the wing centerline and reconnect forming a ring-like structure which is shed as the next plunging cycle begins. Vortex breakdown, total collapse and reformation of the wing tip vortices are also observed at various stages of the heaving motion. At the relatively high value of reduced frequency considered, these basic flow elements of the complex three-dimensional dynamic stall process are found to persist over a range of Reynolds numbers.  相似文献

An experimental study was conducted to characterize the dynamic wind loads and evolution of the unsteady vortex and turbulent flow structures in the near wake of a horizontal axis wind turbine model placed in an atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnel. In addition to measuring dynamic wind loads (i.e., aerodynamic forces and bending moments) acting on the wind turbine model by using a high-sensitive force-moment sensor unit, a high-resolution digital particle image velocimetry (PIV) system was used to achieve flow field measurements to quantify the characteristics of the turbulent vortex flow in the near wake of the wind turbine model. Besides conducting “free-run” PIV measurements to determine the ensemble-averaged statistics of the flow quantities such as mean velocity, Reynolds stress, and turbulence kinetic energy (TKE) distributions in the wake flow, “phase-locked” PIV measurements were also performed to elucidate further details about evolution of the unsteady vortex structures in the wake flow in relation to the position of the rotating turbine blades. The effects of the tip-speed-ratio of the wind turbine model on the dynamic wind loads and wake flow characteristics were quantified in the terms of the variations of the aerodynamic thrust and bending moment coefficients of the wind turbine model, the evolution of the helical tip vortices and the unsteady vortices shedding from the blade roots and turbine nacelle, the deceleration of the incoming airflows after passing the rotation disk of the turbine blades, the TKE and Reynolds stress distributions in the near wake of the wind turbine model. The detailed flow field measurements were correlated with the dynamic wind load measurements to elucidate underlying physics in order to gain further insight into the characteristics of the dynamic wind loads and turbulent vortex flows in the wakes of wind turbines for the optimal design of the wind turbines operating in atmospheric boundary layer winds.  相似文献

In order to simulate the thick trailing edges of turbine blades a slotted plate profile together with a newly designed nozzle was installed into the high-speed wind tunnel of the DLR Göttingen. At different supersonic Mach numbers and at four coolant flow rates in the range of 0–2.5% pressure distribution measurements and probe measurements were performed. The flow field was visualized by schlieren photos and the instantaneous velocity field was quantitatively investigated by Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). The measurements of the velocity field gave an insight into stationary effects, for example the change of shock strength with coolant flow rate, and instationary effects such as the existence of a vortex street in the wake. The PIV technique offers special advantages for the investigation of transonic flow fields, but also yields to special experimental difficulties, which are also described in this article. Measured losses display a maximum at the downstream Mach number 1. This is strongly related to the behaviour of the base pressure. A loss minimum is achieved at moderate coolant flow rates, showing that an optimum coolant flow rate exists. The loss was analysed and separated into the loss contributions from the profile upstream of the trailing edge and the mixing loss due to the coolant flow.  相似文献

Dynamic stall on a helicopter rotor blade comprises a series of complex aerodynamic phenomena in response to the unsteady change of the blade’s angle of attack. It is accompanied by a lift overshoot and delayed massive flow separation with respect to static stall. The classical hallmark of the dynamic stall phenomenon is the dynamic stall vortex. The flow over an oscillating OA209 airfoil under dynamic stall conditions was investigated by means of unsteady surface pressure measurements and time-resolved particle image velocimetry. The characteristic features of the unsteady flow field were identified and analysed utilising different coherent structure identification methods. An Eulerian and a Lagrangian procedure were adopted to locate the axes of vortices and the edges of Lagrangian coherent structures, respectively; a proper orthogonal decomposition of the velocity field revealed the energetically dominant coherent flow patterns and their temporal evolution. Based on the complementary information obtained by these methods the dynamics and interaction of vortical structures were analysed within a single dynamic stall life cycle leading to a classification of the unsteady flow development into five successive stages: the attached flow stage; the stall development stage; stall onset; the stalled stage; and flow reattachment. The onset of dynamic stall was specified here based on a characteristic mode of the proper orthogonal decomposition of the velocity field. Variations in the flow field topology that accompany the stall onset were verified by the Lagrangian coherent structure analysis. The instantaneous effective unsteadiness was defined as a single representative parameter to describe the influence of the motion parameters. Dynamic stall onset was found to be promoted by increasing unsteadiness. The mechanism that results in the detachment of the dynamic stall vortex from the airfoil was identified as vortex-induced separation caused by strong viscous interactions. Finally, a revised criterion to discern between light and deep dynamic stall was formulated.  相似文献

Dynamic stall on a pitching OA209 airfoil in a wind tunnel is investigated at Mach 0.3 and 0.5 using high-speed pressure-sensitive paint (PSP) and pressure measurements. At Mach 0.3, the dynamic stall vortex was observed to propagate faster at the airfoil midline than at the wind-tunnel wall, resulting in a “bowed” vortex shape. At Mach 0.5, shock-induced stall was observed, with initial separation under the shock foot and subsequent expansion of the separated region upstream, downstream and along the breadth of the airfoil. No dynamic stall vortex could be observed at Mach 0.5. The investigation of flow control by blowing showed the potential advantages of PSP over pressure transducers for a complex three-dimensional flow.  相似文献

对槽道内涡波流场的瞬态速度矢量场进行了2DPIV测量实验,将2DPIV测量的矢量场数据进行POD分析,根据POD分解的各阶模态的能量比确定了表征涡波流场主导结构的前15阶模态。结果表明,POD分解的前15阶模态发现槽道内涡波流场是由槽道壁面剪切层诱导的涡列以及伴随的波状主流组成;流场中大尺度的涡旋发展为涡对,对波状主流的脉动频率产生影响;根据涡波流场中的驻点和鞍点,获取了流场的大尺度涡对、平均流场以及Helmholtz涡环等明显特征;最后根据POD分解的前15阶模态对槽道内涡波流场进行重组,重组流场表征了槽道内层流状态下波状主流的形态和涡旋共存的涡波结构以及驻点和鞍点的位置处涡旋的变化等主要特征,有效地剔除了PIV测量流场中的随机信息,保留了PIV测量流场的主导特征。  相似文献

This paper describes the results of application of a particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique to an orthogonal blade–vortex interaction experiment. To help resolve the problem of vortex meander during the tests, two PIV systems were used, which produced two velocity vector maps closely separated in time. During the PIV analysis an image-based vector validation scheme was used, which was shown to reduce significantly the number of wild vectors reaching the vector map. Preliminary results from the tests showed that, close to the blade, a significant radial outflow was superimposed on the vortex flow field. The radial flow is thought to be due to the dispersion of the vortex axial core flow during vortex cutting, which distorts the vortex flow field and enlarges the vortex. The main objective of this research study was to investigate the aerodynamic forces of an avian flapping wing model system. The model size and the flow conditions were chosen to approximate the flight of a goose. Direct force measurements, using a three-component balance, and PIV flow field measurements parallel and perpendicular to the oncoming flow, were performed in a wind tunnel at Reynolds numbers between 28,000 and 141,000 (3–15 m/s), throughout a range of reduced frequencies between 0.04 and 0.20. The appropriateness of quasi-steady assumptions used to compare 2D, time-averaged particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements in the wake with direct force measurements was evaluated. The vertical force coefficient for flapping wings was typically significantly higher than the maximum coefficient of the fixed wing, implying the influence of unsteady effects, such as delayed stall, even at low reduced frequencies. This puts the validity of the quasi-steady assumption into question. The (local) change in circulation over the wing beat cycle and the circulation distribution along the wingspan were obtained from the measurements in the tip and transverse vortex planes. Flow separation could be observed in the distribution of the circulation, and while the circulation derived from the wake measurements failed to agree exactly with the absolute value of the circulation, the change in circulation over the wing beat cycle was in excellent agreement for low and moderate reduced frequencies. The comparison between the PIV measurements in the two perpendicular planes and the direct force balance measurements, show that within certain limitations the wake visualization is a powerful tool to gain insight into force generation and the flow behavior on flapping wings over the wing beat cycle.  相似文献

The flow field around a helicopter is characterised by its inherent complexity including effects of fluid?Cstructure interference, shock?Cboundary layer interaction, and dynamic stall. Since the advancement of computational fluid dynamics and computing capabilities has led to an increasing demand for experimental validation data, a comprehensive wind tunnel test campaign of a fully equipped and motorised generic medium transport helicopter was conducted in the framework of the GOAHEAD project. Different model configurations (with or without main/tail rotor blades) and several flight conditions were investigated. In this paper, the results of the three-component velocity field measurements around the model are surveyed. The effect of the interaction between the main rotor wake and the fuselage for cruise/tail shake flight conditions was analysed based on the flow characteristics downstream from the rotor hub and the rear fuselage hatch. The results indicated a sensible increment of the intensity of the vortex shedding from the lower part of the fuselage and a strong interaction between the blade vortex filaments and the wakes shed by the rotor hub and by the engine exhaust areas. The pitch-up phenomenon was addressed, detecting the blade tip vortices impacting on the horizontal tail plane. For high-speed forward flight, the shock wave formation on the advancing blade was detected, measuring the location on the blade chord and the intensity. Furthermore, dynamic stall on the retreating main rotor blade in high-speed forward flight was observed at r/R?=?0.5 and 0.6. The analysis of the substructures forming the dynamic stall vortex revealed an unexpected spatial concentration suggesting a rotational stabilisation of large-scale structures on the blade.  相似文献

The aerodynamic behavior of a vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) is analyzed by means of 2D particle image velocimetry (PIV), focusing on the development of dynamic stall at different tip speed ratios. The VAWT has an unsteady aerodynamic behavior due to the variation with the azimuth angle θ of the blade’s sections’ angle of attack, perceived velocity and Reynolds number. The phenomenon of dynamic stall is then an inherent effect of the operation of a VAWT at low tip speed ratios, impacting both loads and power. The present work is driven by the need to understand this phenomenon, by visualizing and quantifying it, and to create a database for model validation. The experimental method uses PIV to visualize the development of the flow over the suction side of the airfoil for two different reference Reynolds numbers and three tip speed ratios in the operational regime of a small urban wind turbine. The field-of-view of the experiment covers the entire rotation of the blade and almost the entire rotor area. The analysis describes the evolution of the flow around the airfoil and in the rotor area, with special focus on the leading edge separation vortex and trailing edge shed vorticity development. The method also allows the quantification of the flow, both the velocity field and the vorticity/circulation (only the results of the vorticity/circulation distribution are presented), in terms of the phase locked average and the random component.  相似文献

The vortex street of a turbine blade profile (VKI-1, 58 mm chord length) was investigated by particle image velocimetry (PIV) and laser vibrometry in a Mach number range between 0.26 and 0.78. While the laser vibrometer (LV) measured the frequency of the density fluctuations in the wake and around the profile, PIV helped to clarify the vortex shedding process. The recordings done by the LV resulted in detailed frequency data of vortex shedding when Mach number and Reynolds number were varied, while the results obtained by PIV enabled a phase resolved measurement of the flow field during vortex shedding.  相似文献

The dynamic stall problem for blades is related to the general performance of wind turbines, where a varying flow field is introduced with a rapid change of the effective angle of attack (AOA). The objective of this work is to study the aerodynamic performance of a sinusoidally oscillating NACA0012 airfoil. The coupled \(k{-}\omega \) Menter’s shear stress transport (SST) turbulence model and \(\gamma {-}Re_{\uptheta }\) transition model were used for turbulence closure. Lagrangian coherent structures (LCS) were utilized to analyze the dynamic behavior of the flow structures. The computational results were supported by the experiments. The results indicated that this numerical method can well describe the dynamic stall process. For the case with reduced frequency \(K = 0.1\), the lift and drag coefficients increase constantly with increasing angle prior to dynamic stall. When the AOA reaches the stall angle, the lift and drag coefficients decline suddenly due to the interplay between the first leading- and trailing-edge vortex. With further increase of the AOA, both the lift and drag coefficients experience a secondary rise and fall process because of formation and shedding of the secondary vortex. The results also reveal that the dynamic behavior of the flow structures can be effectively identified using the finite-time Lyapunov exponent (FTLE) field. The influence of the reduced frequency on the flow structures and energy extraction efficiency in the dynamic stall process is further discussed. When the reduced frequency increases, the dynamic stall is delayed and the total energy extraction efficiency is enhanced. With \(K = 0.05\), the amplitude of the dynamic coefficients fluctuates more significantly in the poststall process than in the case of \(K = 0.1\).  相似文献

Wake vortex flow experiments are performed in a water tank where a 1:48 scaled model of a large transport aircraft A340-300 is towed at the speed of 3 and 5 ms-1 with values of the angle of attack !={2°, 4°, 8°}. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements are performed in a plane perpendicular to the towing direction describing the streamwise component of the wake vorticity. The instantaneous field of view (I-FOV) is traversed vertically with an underwater moving-camera device tracking the vortex core during the downward motion. An adaptive resolution (AR) image-processing technique is introduced that enhances the PIV interrogation in terms of spatial resolution and accuracy. The main objectives of the investigation are to demonstrate the applicability of PIV diagnostics in wake vortex research with towing-tank facilities. The specific implementation of the traversing field-of-view (T-FOV) technique and the AR image processing are driven by the need to characterize the vortex wake global properties as well as the vortex decay phenomenon in the mid- and far-field. Relevant aerodynamic information is obtained in the mid-field where the time evolution of the vortex structure (core radius and tangential velocity) and of the overall vortex wake (vortex trajectory, descent velocity, circulation) are discussed.  相似文献

The operating range of turbomachines is limited in terms of the low flow rate by instabilities appearing in flow-leading parts of the machinery resulting in the creation of vortices. If the flow is further throttled, stall cells can start to propagate in the impeller at a fraction of the rotor speed. This article presents an investigation of rotating stall at different flow rates in a radial pump using time-resolved particle imaging velocimetry (PIV). This technique was used to investigate the flow field at the same position in every channel of the impeller during several revolutions. Frequency analysis was applied to the measured velocities to calculate the angular speed of the rotating stall in the impeller. The interest of time-resolved PIV to understand rotating stall is demonstrated, as it allows measurement of transient, irregularly appearing flow fields.  相似文献

The aim of the present work is to understand the aerodynamic phenomena and the vortex topology of an unsteady flapping motion by means of numerical and experimental methods. Instead of the use of real insect/bird wing geometries and kinematics which are highly complex and difficult to imitate by an exact modeling, a simplified model is used in order to understand the unsteady aerodynamics and vortex formation mechanisms during the different phases of the flapping motion. The flow is assumed to be laminar with a Reynolds number of 1,000. Direct numerical simulations, laser sheet visualizations and particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements are performed for the phenomenological analysis of the flow. The vortex dynamics and their identification are put in evidence with PIV measurements by considering velocity magnitude, streamlines, second invariant of velocity gradient (Q-criteria), vorticity contours and Eurlerian accelerations.  相似文献

AFC (Active Flow Control) experiments have been performed by means of steady and pulsed blowing out of the sidewalls as well as out of the blade’s suction surface in a highly loaded compressor cascade. PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) was used to evaluate the fully three-dimensional internal flow field and the impact of AFC methods. The aim was to observe the secondary flow structures and flow instabilities by PIV, to tune the AFC device operation parameters. This paper summarizes the different PIV measurements performed at the stator cascade to give an overview of the dominant flow features in the passage flow field and to obtain a detailed view of control mechanisms. In addition, a new vortex detection method is presented, based on a 2D-wavelet which is applicable in two-dimensional velocity data fields.  相似文献

This paper studies the flow field of a particular fluid-structure interaction phenomenon—the continuous angular oscillation of a centrally pivoted equilateral triangular cylinder (prism), under uniform two-dimensional incompressible flow. Dye flow visualization of a 30 cm long and 10 cm wide cylinder in a two-dimensional water tunnel was conducted. Under a uniform incoming flow of 7.5 cm/s, the cylinder oscillated continuously after an initial perturbation. On the windward side of the cylinder, a vortex was formed at the sharp edges of the cylinder during the initial phase, whereas on the leeward side, the flow stayed attached. The phase-averaged particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements are also presented. PIV results show the interchange of flow patterns from that over a flat plate to flow past a sharp edge and vice versa.  相似文献
