Ant colony optimization is a metaheuristic that has been applied to a variety of combinatorial optimization problems. In this paper, an ant colony optimization approach is proposed to deal with the multidimensional knapsack problem. It is an extension of Max Min Ant System which imposes lower and upper trail limits on pheromone values to avoid stagnation. In order to choose the lower trail limit, we provide a new method which takes into account the influence of heuristic information. Furthermore, a local search procedure is proposed to improve the solutions constructed by ants. Computational experiments on benchmark problems are carried out. The results show that the proposed algorithm can compete efficiently with other promising approaches to the problem.  相似文献

We compare several heuristics for solving a single machine scheduling problem. In the operating situation modelled, setup times are sequence-dependent and the objective is to minimize total tardiness. We describe an Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm having a new feature using look-ahead information in the transition rule. This feature shows an improvement in performance. A comparison with a genetic algorithm, a simulated annealing approach, a local search method and a branch-and-bound algorithm indicates that the ACO that we describe is competitive and has a certain advantage for larger problems.  相似文献

Given an undirected graph and a weighting function defined on the vertex set, the minimum weight vertex cover problem is to find a vertex subset whose total weight is minimum subject to the premise that the selected vertices cover all edges in the graph. In this paper, we introduce a meta-heuristic based upon the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) approach, to find approximate solutions to the minimum weight vertex cover problem. In the literature, the ACO approach has been successfully applied to several well-known combinatorial optimization problems whose solutions might be in the form of paths on the associated graphs. A solution to the minimum weight vertex cover problem however needs not to constitute a path. The ACO algorithm proposed in this paper incorporates several new features so as to select vertices out of the vertex set whereas the total weight can be minimized as much as possible. Computational experiments are designed and conducted to study the performance of our proposed approach. Numerical results evince that the ACO algorithm demonstrates significant effectiveness and robustness in solving the minimum weight vertex cover problem.  相似文献

This study presents a hybrid metaheuristic ANGEL for the resource-constrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP). ANGEL combines ant colony optimization (ACO), genetic algorithm (GA) and local search strategy. The procedures of ANGEL are as follows. First, ACO searches the solution space and generates activity lists to provide the initial population for GA. Next, GA is executed and the pheromone set in ACO is updated when GA obtains a better solution. When GA terminates, ACO searches again by using a new pheromone set. ACO and GA search alternately and cooperatively in the solution space. This study also proposes an efficient local search procedure which is applied to yield a better solution when ACO or GA obtains a solution. A final search is applied upon the termination of ACO and GA. The experimental results of ANGEL on the standard sets of the project instances show that ANGEL is an effective method for solving the RCPSP.  相似文献

An Extended Ant Colony Algorithm and Its Convergence Analysis   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this work, we propose a stochastic algorithm for solving combinatorial optimization problems. The procedure is formulated within the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) framework, and extends the so-called Graph-based Ant System with time-dependent evaporation factor, (GBAS/tdev) studied in Gutjahr (2002). In particular, we consider an ACO search procedure which also takes into account the objective function value. We provide a rigorous theoretical study on the convergence of the proposed algorithm. Further, for a toy example, we compare by simulation the rate of convergence of the proposed algorithm with those from the Random Search (RS) and from the corresponding procedure in Gutjahr (2002).AMS 2000 Subject Classification: 9OC15, 9OC27  相似文献

Based upon the general tabu search methodology, this paper develops a robust metaheuristic algorithm for the redundancy optimization in large-scale complex system reliability that performs a rigorous search of the “attractive” feasible space and is capable of escaping from a local solution. An illustrative example is provided and extensive computational results are reported on two test problems from the literature (Aggarwal, 1976; Shi, 1987) and also on randomly generated large-scale instances of complex systems with up to 200 components. The computational results indicate that the proposed metaheuristic algorithm possesses a superior robustness and efficiency for solving the class of hard optimization problems studied in this paper.  相似文献

This paper systematically compares an ant colony optimization (ACO) and a greedy randomized adaptive search procedure (GRASP) metaheuristic. Both are used to solve the vehicle routing problem with time windows and multiple service workers. In order to keep the results comparable, the same route construction heuristic and local search procedures are used. It is shown that ACO clearly outperforms GRASP in the problem under study. Additionally, new globally best results for the used benchmark problems are presented.  相似文献

The Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) requires the determination of an optimal set of routes for a set of vehicles to serve a set of customers. We deal here with the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP) where there is a maximum weight or volume that each vehicle can load. We developed an Ant Colony algorithm (ACO) for the CVRP based on the metaheuristic technique introduced by Colorni, Dorigo and Maniezzo. We present preliminary results that show that ant algorithms are competitive with other metaheuristics for solving CVRP.  相似文献

This study introduces a new algorithm for the ant colony optimization (ACO) method, which has been proposed to solve global optimization problems with continuous decision variables. This algorithm, namely ACO-FRS, involves a strategy for the selection of feasible regions during optimization search and it performs the exploration of the search space using a similar approach to that used by the ants during the search of food. Four variants of this algorithm have been tested in several benchmark problems and the results of this study have been compared with those reported in literature for other ACO-type methods for continuous spaces. Overall, the results show that the incorporation of the selection of feasible regions allows the performing of a global search to explore those regions with low level of pheromone, thus increasing the feasibility of ACO for finding the global optimal solution.  相似文献

The quadratic assignment problem (QAP) is known to be NP-hard. We propose a hybrid metaheuristic called ANGEL to solve QAP. ANGEL combines the ant colony optimization (ACO), the genetic algorithm (GA) and a local search method (LS). There are two major phases in ANGEL, namely ACO phase and GA phase. Instead of starting from a population that consists of randomly generated chromosomes, GA has an initial population constructed by ACO in order to provide a good start. Pheromone acts as a feedback mechanism from GA phase to ACO phase. When GA phase reaches the termination criterion, control is transferred back to ACO phase. Then ACO utilizes pheromone updated by GA phase to explore solution space and produces a promising population for the next run of GA phase. The local search method is applied to improve the solutions obtained by ACO and GA. We also propose a new concept called the eugenic strategy intended to guide the genetic algorithm to evolve toward a better direction. We report the results of a comprehensive testing of ANGEL in solving QAP. Over a hundred instances of QAP benchmarks were tested and the results show that ANGEL is able to obtain the optimal solution with a high success rate of 90%. Variable neighborhood search: Principles and applications   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
Systematic change of neighborhood within a possibly randomized local search algorithm yields a simple and effective metaheuristic for combinatorial and global optimization, called variable neighborhood search (VNS). We present a basic scheme for this purpose, which can easily be implemented using any local search algorithm as a subroutine. Its effectiveness is illustrated by solving several classical combinatorial or global optimization problems. Moreover, several extensions are proposed for solving large problem instances: using VNS within the successive approximation method yields a two-level VNS, called variable neighborhood decomposition search (VNDS); modifying the basic scheme to explore easily valleys far from the incumbent solution yields an efficient skewed VNS (SVNS) heuristic. Finally, we show how to stabilize column generation algorithms with help of VNS and discuss various ways to use VNS in graph theory, i.e., to suggest, disprove or give hints on how to prove conjectures, an area where metaheuristics do not appear to have been applied before.  相似文献

In this article, a new metaheuristic optimization algorithm is introduced. This algorithm is based on the ability of shark, as a superior hunter in the nature, for finding prey, which is taken from the smell sense of shark and its movement to the odor source. Various behaviors of shark within the search environment, that is, sea water, are mathematically modeled within the proposed optimization approach. The effectiveness of the suggested approach is compared with many other heuristic optimization methods based on standard benchmark functions. Also, to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed optimization method for solving real‐world engineering problems, it is applied for the solution of load frequency control problem in electrical power systems. The obtained results confirm the validity of the proposed metaheuristic optimization algorithm. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Complexity 21: 97–116, 2016  相似文献

A study of ACO capabilities for solving the maximum clique problem   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
This paper investigates the capabilities of the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) meta-heuristic for solving the maximum clique problem, the goal of which is to find a largest set of pairwise adjacent vertices in a graph. We propose and compare two different instantiations of a generic ACO algorithm for this problem. Basically, the generic ACO algorithm successively generates maximal cliques through the repeated addition of vertices into partial cliques, and uses “pheromone trails” as a greedy heuristic to choose, at each step, the next vertex to enter the clique. The two instantiations differ in the way pheromone trails are laid and exploited, i.e., on edges or on vertices of the graph. We illustrate the behavior of the two ACO instantiations on a representative benchmark instance and we study the impact of pheromone on the solution process. We consider two measures—the re-sampling and the dispersion ratio—for providing an insight into the performance at run time. We also study the benefit of integrating a local search procedure within the proposed ACO algorithm, and we show that this improves the solution process. Finally, we compare ACO performance with that of three other representative heuristic approaches, showing that the former obtains competitive results.

We suggest a new heuristic for solving unconstrained continuous optimization problems. It is based on a generalized version of the variable neighborhood search metaheuristic. Different neighborhoods and distributions, induced from different metrics are ranked and used to get random points in the shaking step. We also propose VNS for solving constrained optimization problems. The constraints are handled using exterior point penalty functions within an algorithm that combines sequential and exact penalty transformations. The extensive computer analysis that includes the comparison with genetic algorithm and some other approaches on standard test functions are given. With our approach we obtain encouraging results.  相似文献

Traditionally, minimum cost transshipment problems have been simplified as linear cost problems, which are not practical in real applications. Some advanced local search algorithms have been developed to solve concave cost bipartite network problems. These have been found to be more effective than the traditional linear approximation methods and local search methods. Recently, a genetic algorithm and an ant colony system algorithm were employed to develop two global search algorithms for solving concave cost transshipment problems. These two global search algorithms were found to be more effective than the advanced local search algorithms for solving concave cost transshipment problems. Although the particle swarm optimization algorithm has been used to obtain good results in many applications, to the best of our knowledge, it has not yet been applied in minimum concave cost network flow problems. Thus, in this study, we employ an arc-based particle swarm optimization algorithm, coupled with some genetic algorithm and threshold accepting method techniques, as well as concave cost network heuristics, to develop a hybrid global search algorithm for efficiently solving minimum cost network flow problems with concave arc costs. The proposed algorithm is evaluated by solving several randomly generated network flow problems. The results indicate that the proposed algorithm is more effective than several other recently designed methods, such as local search algorithms, genetic algorithms and ant colony system algorithms, for solving minimum cost network flow problems with concave arc costs.  相似文献

The evolutionary metaheuristic called scatter search has been applied successfully to optimization problems for several years. In this paper, we apply the scatter search technique to the well-known 0–1 multidimensional knapsack problem. We propose a new relaxation-based diversification generator, which produces an initial population with elite solutions. The computational results obtained for a set of classic and correlated instances clearly show that (1) this generator can also be used as a heuristic for solving the multidimensional knapsack problem; (2) using the population produced by our generator as a starting point for the scatter search algorithm leads to better performance. We also enhance the scatter search algorithm by integrating memory and by using adapted intensification phases. Overall, the results are interesting and competitive compared to other population-based algorithms, such as genetic algorithms.   相似文献

A new algorithm for global optimization of costly nonlinear continuous problems is presented in this paper. The algorithm is based on the scatter search metaheuristic, which has recently proved to be efficient for solving combinatorial and nonlinear optimization problems. A kriging-based prediction method has been coupled to the main optimization routine in order to discard the evaluation of solutions that are not likely to provide high quality function values. This makes the algorithm suitable for the optimization of computationally costly problems, as is illustrated in its application to two benchmark problems and its comparison with other algorithms.  相似文献

This paper presents a co-evolutionary particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm, hybridized with noising metaheuristics, for solving the delay constrained least cost (DCLC) path problem, i.e., shortest-path problem with a delay constraint on the total “cost” of the optimal path. The proposed algorithm uses the principle of Lagrange relaxation based aggregated cost. It essentially consists of two concurrent PSOs for solving the resulting minimization-maximization problem. The main PSO is designed as a hybrid PSO-noising metaheuristics algorithm for efficient global search to solve the minimization part of the DCLC-Lagrangian relaxation by finding multiple shortest paths between a source-destination pair. The auxiliary/second PSO is a co-evolutionary PSO to obtain the optimal Lagrangian multiplier for solving the maximization part of the Lagrangian relaxation problem. For the main PSO, a novel heuristics-based path encoding/decoding scheme has been devised for representation of network paths as particles. The simulation results on several networks with random topologies illustrate the efficiency of the proposed hybrid algorithm for the constrained shortest path computation problems.  相似文献
