A closed topological n-manifold M n is of S 1-category 2 if it can be covered by two open subsets W 1, W 2 such that the inclusions W i M n factor homotopically through maps W i S 1. We show that for n > 3 the fundamental group of such an n-manifold is either trivial or infinite cyclic.  相似文献

Vector cross product structures on manifolds include symplectic, volume, G2- and Spin(7)-structures. We show that the knot spaces of such manifolds have natural symplectic structures, and relate instantons and branes in these manifolds to holomorphic disks and Lagrangian submanifolds in their knot spaces.For the complex case, the holomorphic volume form on a Calabi-Yau manifold defines a complex vector cross product structure. We show that its isotropic knot space admits a natural holomorphic symplectic structure. We also relate the Calabi-Yau geometry of the manifold to the holomorphic symplectic geometry of its isotropic knot space.  相似文献

Based on Cynk–Hulek method from [7] we construct complex Calabi–Yau varieties of arbitrary dimensions using elliptic curves with an automorphism of order 6. Also we give formulas for Hodge numbers of varieties obtained from that construction. We shall generalize the result of [11] to obtain arbitrarily dimensional Calabi–Yau manifolds which are Zariski in any characteristic p◂⋅▸1(mod12).  相似文献

In this paper we study transversality on infinite dimensional manifolds with corners. We deal with transversality, boundary-transversality and weak-boundary-transversality, characterize these three notions by means of the infinitesimal transversality, construct submanifolds as inverse image of submanifolds by transversal maps and prove parametrized theorems about the density of weak-boundary-transversality and boundary-transversality, which generalize the corresponding Abraham and Quinn theorems.  相似文献

In this paper we re-develop the foundations of the category theory of quasi-categories (also called ∞-categories) using 2-category theory. We show that Joyal's strict 2-category of quasi-categories admits certain weak 2-limits, among them weak comma objects. We use these comma quasi-categories to encode universal properties relevant to limits, colimits, and adjunctions and prove the expected theorems relating these notions. These universal properties have an alternate form as absolute lifting diagrams in the 2-category, which we show are determined pointwise by the existence of certain initial or terminal vertices, allowing for the easy production of examples.  相似文献

In this paper we study three dimensional homogeneous Finsler manifolds. We first obtain a complete list of the three‐dimensional homogeneous manifolds which admit invariant Finsler metrics. Then we consider invariant Randers metrics and present the classification of three dimensional homogeneous Randers spaces under isometrics.  相似文献

Categorical structures and their pseudomaps rarely form locally presentable 2-categories in the sense of Cat-enriched category theory. However, we show that if the categorical structure in question is sufficiently weak (such as the structure of monoidal, but not strict monoidal, categories) then the 2-category in question is accessible. Furthermore, we explore the flexible limits that such 2-categories possess and their interaction with filtered colimits.  相似文献

We introduce a new intrinsic definition of fibrations in a 2-category, and show how it may be used (in conjunction with a suitable limit-colimit commutation condition) to define a 2-categorical version of the notion of partial product. We use these notions to show that partial products exist for all fibrations in the 2-category of (small) categories, and to identify the fibrations in the 2-category of toposes and geometric morphisms.  相似文献

We develop two new methods of constructing sequences of manifolds with positive scalar curvature that converge in the Gromov-Hausdorff and Intrinsic Flat sense to limit spaces with “pulled regions”. The examples created rigorously using these methods were announced a few years ago and have influenced the statements of some of Gromov's conjectures concerning sequences of manifolds with positive scalar curvature. Both methods extend the notion of “sewing along a curve” developed in prior work of the authors with Dodziuk to create limits that are pulled string spaces. The first method allows us to sew any compact set in a fixed initial manifold to create a limit space in which that compact set has been scrunched to a single point. The second method allows us to edit a sequence of regions or curves in a sequence of distinct manifolds.  相似文献

In this paper we construct a new elliptic operator associated to any nowhere zero vector field on an odd-dimensional manifold and study its index theory. It turns out this operator has several geometric applications to conformal vector fields, self-dual vector fields, locally free -actions and transversal hypersurfaces of these vector fields in an odd-dimensional manifold. In particular, we reveal a non-stable phenomena about the existence of conformal vector fields and self-dual vector fields in odd dimensions above 3. This is in sharp contrast to the stable phenomena about the existence of nowhere zero vector fields in odd dimensions. Besides these applications, the index formula of this new operator also gives the formulas for the dimensions of self-duality cohomology groups and for the virtual dimensions of the moduli spaces of anti-self-dual connections on 5-cobordisms, which are introduced in author's previous papers.

A 1-parameter family of quasi-invariant measures is presented. These measures are cylinder measures in graph coordinates. Their characteristic functions are represented as integrals relative to an infinite product measure. This is applied to the problem of determining the support properties of the measures. One of the measures can be used to define the unitary structure for the basic representation of the affine extension of the restricted unitary group.  相似文献

We discuss the extension to infinite dimensional Riemannian—Wiener manifolds of the transport approximation to Brownian motion, which was formulated by M. Pinsky for finite dimensional manifolds. A global representation is given for the Laplace—Beltrami operator in terms of the Riemannian spray and a homogenizing operator based upon the central hitting measure of the surface of the unit ball with respect to the Brownian motion on the model space.Research supported by NSF grant MCS8202319.  相似文献
