Analytical expressions for the scattering patterns of ordered nano- and mesoscopic materials are derived and compared to measured scattering patterns. Ordered structures comprising spheres (fcc, bcc, hcp, sc, and bct), cylinders (hex and sq), lamellae (lam) and vesicles, as well as bicontinuous cubic structures (Ia3d, Pn3m, and Im3m) are considered. The expressions take into account unit cell dimensions, particle sizes and size distributions, lattice point deviations, finite domain sizes, orientational distributions, core/shell-structures as well a variety of peak shapes. The expressions allow to quantitatively describe, model and even fit measured SAXS and SANS-patterns of ordered or oriented micellar solutions, lyotropic phases, block copolymers, colloidal solutions, nanocomposites, photonic crystals, as well as mesoporous materials.  相似文献

Interfacing magnetic particles with ordered mesoporous materials is an effective direction for the development of functional porous composite materials with rationally designed core–shell structures. Owing to the combined properties of magnetic nanoparticles and mesoporous silica (high surface area, large pore volume, porosity, and biocompatibility), core–shell magnetic mesoporous silica materials have generated tremendous interest in various disciplines, including chemistry, materials, bioengineering, and biomedicine. Interfacial assembly strategies enable the rational construction of magnetic mesoporous silica materials with well‐defined core–shell structure, morphology, pore parameters, and surface wettability, which can decisively influence their physical and chemical properties and thus improve their application performance. This Minireview summarizes recent progress in the synthesis of core–shell magnetic mesoporous silica and the adjustment of key parameters, including pore size, morphology, and pore orientation.  相似文献

The size dependence of optical and electronic properties of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) have been extensively studied in various applications ranging from solar energy conversion to biological imaging. Core/shell QDs allow further tuning of these properties by controlling the spatial distributions of the conduction-band electron and valence-band hole wave functions through the choice of the core/shell materials and their size/thickness. It is possible to engineer type II core/shell QDs, such as CdTe/CdSe, in which the lowest energy conduction-band electron is largely localized in the shell while the lowest energy valence-band hole is localized in the core. This spatial distribution enables ultrafast electron transfer to the surface-adsorbed electron acceptors due to enhanced electron density on the shell materials, while simultaneously retarding the charge recombination process because the shell acts as a tunneling barrier for the core localized hole. Using ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy, we show that in CdTe/CdSe-anthraquinone (AQ) complexes, after the initial ultrafast (~770 fs) intra-QD electron transfer from the CdTe core to the CdSe shell, the shell-localized electron is transferred to the adsorbed AQ with a half-life of 2.7 ps. The subsequent charge recombination from the reduced acceptor, AQ(-), to the hole in the CdTe core has a half-life of 92 ns. Compared to CdSe-AQ complexes, the type II band alignment in CdTe/CdSe QDs maintains similar ultrafast charge separation while retarding the charge recombination by 100-fold. This unique ultrafast charge separation and slow recombination property, coupled with longer single and multiple exciton lifetimes in type II QDs, suggests that they are ideal light-harvesting materials for solar energy conversion.  相似文献

Hydroxyapatite (HAP), a well‐known member of the calcium phosphate family, is the major inorganic component of bones and teeth in vertebrates. The highly ordered arrays of HAP structures are of great significance for hard tissue repair and for understanding the formation mechanisms of bones and teeth. However, the synthesis of highly ordered HAP structure arrays remains a great challenge. In this work, inspired by the ordered structure of tooth enamel, we have successfully synthesized three‐dimensional bulk materials with large sizes (millimeter scale) that are made of highly ordered arrays of ultralong HAP microtubes (HOAUHMs) by solvothermal transformation of calcium oleate precursor. The core–shell‐structured oblate sphere consists of a core that is composed of HAP nanorods and a shell that consists of highly ordered HAP microtube arrays. The prepared HOAUHMs are large: 6.0 mm in diameter and up to 1.4 mm in thickness. With increasing solvothermal reaction time, the HOAUHMs grow larger; the microtubes become more uniform and more ordered. This work provides a new synthetic method for synthesizing highly ordered arrays of uniform HAP ultralong microtubes that are promising for biomedical applications.  相似文献

Electroresponsive structurally colored materials composed of ordered arrays of polyaniline@poly(methyl methacrylate) (PANI@PMMA) core–shell nanoparticles have been successfully prepared. The core–shell nanoparticles were synthesized by deposition of PANI shells on the surfaces of the PMMA cores by the oxidative polymerization of anilinium chloride. Ordered arrays were then fabricated by using the fluidic cell method. Because the ordered arrays and the PANI shells generate structural and electrochromic colors, respectively, these core–shell colloidal crystals exhibited colors resulting from the combined effects of these materials. The crystal colors depended greatly on the size of PANI@PMMA particles and could also be varied by the application of a voltage. The electrochromic colors of these arrays were found to be quite different from those exhibited by pure PANI films prepared by electrochemical oxidation.  相似文献

Water-in-oil (W/O) microemulsion is a well-suitable confined reacting medium for the synthesis of structured functional nanoparticles of controlled size and shape. During the last decade, it allowed the synthesis of multi-functional silica nanoparticles with morphologies as various as core–shell, homogenous dispersion or both together. The morphology and properties of the different intermediates and final materials obtained through this route are discussed in the light of UV–Vis–NIR spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and magnetometer SQUID analysis.  相似文献

A core/shell model has often been used to describe water confined to the interior of reverse micelles. The validity of this model for water encapsulated in AOT/isooctane reverse micelles ranging in diameter from 1.7 to 28 nm (w0 = 2-60) and bulk water is investigated using four experimental observables: the hydroxyl stretch absorption spectra, vibrational population relaxation times, orientational relaxation rates, and spectral diffusion dynamics. The time dependent observables are measured with ultrafast infrared spectrally resolved pump-probe and vibrational echo spectroscopies. Major progressive changes appear in all observables as the system moves from bulk water to the smallest water nanopool, w0 = 2. The dynamics are readily distinguishable for reverse micelle sizes smaller than 7 nm in diameter (w0 = 20) compared to the response of bulk water. The results also demonstrate that the size dependent absorption spectra and population relaxation times can be quantitatively predicted using a core-shell model in which the properties of the core (interior of the nanopool) are taken to be those of bulk water and the properties of the shell (water associated with the headgroups) are taken to be those of w0 = 2. A weighted sum of the core and shell components reproduces the size dependent spectra and the nonexponential population relaxation dynamics. However, the same model does not reproduce the spectral diffusion and the orientational relaxation experiments. It is proposed that, when hydrogen bond structural rearrangement is involved (orientational relaxation and spectral diffusion), dynamical coupling between the shell and the core cause the water nanopool to display more homogeneous dynamics. Therefore, the absorption spectra and vibrational lifetime decays can discern different hydrogen bonding environments whereas orientational and spectral diffusion correlation functions predict that the dynamics are size dependent but not as strongly spatially dependent within a reverse micelle.  相似文献

The association between a highly branched polyelectrolyte with ionizable groups, polyethylene imine (PEI), and an anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), has been investigated at two pH values, using small-angle neutron and light scattering. The scattering data allow us to obtain a detailed picture of the association structures formed. Small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) measurements in solutions containing highly charged PEI at low pH and low SDS concentrations indicate the presence of disklike aggregates. The aggregates change to a more complex three-dimensional structure with increasing surfactant concentration. One pronounced feature in the scattering curves is the presence of a Bragg-like peak at high q-values observed at a surfactant concentration of 4.2 mM and above. This scattering feature is attributed to the formation of a common well-ordered PEI/SDS structure, in analogue to what has been reported for other polyelectrolyte-surfactant systems. Precipitation occurred at the charge neutralization point, and X-ray diffraction measurements on the precipitate confirmed the existence of an ordered structure within the PEI/SDS aggregates, which was identified as a lamellar internal organization. Polyethylene imine has a low charge density in alkaline solutions. At pH 10.1 and under conditions where the surfactant was contrast matched, the SANS scattering curves showed only small changes with increasing surfactant concentration. This suggests that the polymer acts as a template onto which the surfactant molecules aggregate. Data from both static light scattering and SANS recorded under conditions where SDS and to a lower degree PEI contribute to the scattering were found to be consistent with a structure of stacked elliptic bilayers. These structures increased in size and became more compact as the surfactant concentration was increased up to the charge neutralization point.  相似文献

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising high surface area coordination polymers with tunable pore structures and functionality; however, a lack of good size and morphological control over the as‐prepared MOFs has persisted as an issue in their application. Herein, we show how a robust protein template, tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), can be used to regulate the size and shape of as‐fabricated MOF materials. We were able to obtain discrete rod‐shaped TMV@MOF core–shell hybrids with good uniformity, and their diameters could be tuned by adjusting the synthetic conditions, which can also significantly impact the stability of the core–shell composite. More interestingly, the virus particle underneath the MOF shell can be chemically modified using a standard bioconjugation reaction, showing mass transportation within the MOF shell.  相似文献

The diblock copolymer poly(styrene-b-dimethyl siloxane) (PS-PDMS) in n-dodecane forms multimolecular micelles in which insoluble PS blocks associate in a core surrounded by a shell of solvated PDMS blocks. Small angle X-ray scattering data have been obtained for PS-PDMS concentrations in the range 0.5–10%. Intensity data have been interpreted by the Guinier method in order to determine the radius of the PS core of a micelle. Scattering intensities exhibit negative deviations from Porod's law, which is characteristic of a diffuse interfacial layer, permitting the determination of the thickness of the shell of solvated PDMS blocks. Scattering curves for solutions having high PS-PDMS concentrations have a peak maximum indicating ordered arrays of micelles.  相似文献

In comparison to the corresponding single-component counterparts, core/shell particles are widely used due to their better physical and chemical properties. The surface properties of core/shell particles evidently play an important role in the process of application. It is easy to deduce that surface properties mostly depend on the properties of the component in the shell. Therefore, desirable materials of shell are very significant for the study of composite materials, especially in core/shell field. It is well known that polysiloxane has excellent properties, such as the water repellency, high flexibility, low surface energy, and biocompatibility. Its application, however, is limited due to poor cohesiveness and poor film-forming properties. Recently, much endeavor has been made to overcome such flaws. It is found that polyacrylate is commonly considered for its good cohesiveness and excellent film-forming property. The combination of polysiloxane and polyacrylate has been shown to be important in the composite material field, especially as core/shell particles. Unfortunately, their hydrophobicity is considerably different and thus, the core/shell particles consisting of polyacrylate (PA)/polysiloxane (PSi) are hard to prepare by general seeded emulsion polymerization, and are also scarcely available in the literature. In this study, the new core/shell PA/PSi particles with poly(butyl methacrylate) (PA) as the core and poly(3-(methacryloxypropyl)-trimethoxysilane) (PSi) as the shell were prepared by dispersion polymerization under the kinetically controlled conditions. The characterization of the particles by TEM, DSC, particle size analyzer as well as static contact angle confirmed the formation of core/shell structure. The application of core/shell (PA/PSi) particles also has been considered and discussed here.TEM micrographs of core/shell (PA/PSi) particles.  相似文献

In this work, we report original analytical expressions defining the electrophoretic mobility of composite soft particles comprising an inner core and a surrounding polymer shell with differentiated permeabilities to ions from aqueous background electrolyte and to fluid flow developed under applied DC field conditions. The existence of dielectric permittivity gradients operational at the core/shell and shell/solution interfaces is accounted for within the Debye–Hückel approximation and flat plate configuration valid in the thin double layer regime. The proposed electrophoretic mobility expressions, applicable to weakly to moderately charged particles with size well exceeding the Debye layer thickness, involve the relevant parameters describing the particle core/shell structure and the electrohydrodynamic features of the core and shell particle components. It is shown that the analytical expressions reported so far in literature for the mobility of hard (impermeable) or porous particles correspond to asymptotic limits of the more generic results detailed here. The impacts of dielectric-mediated effects of ions partitioning between bulk solution and particle body on the electrophoretic response are further discussed. The obtained expressions pave the way for a refined quantitative, analytical interpretation of electrophoretic mobility data collected on soft (nano)particles (e.g., functionalized dendrimers and multilayered polyelectrolytic particles) or biological cells (e.g., viruses) for which the classical hard core-soft shell representation is not appropriate.  相似文献

Type-II band engineered quantum dots (CdTe/CdSe(core/shell) and CdSe/ZnTe(core/shell) heterostructures) are described. The optical properties of these type-II quantum dots are studied in parallel with their type-I counterparts. We demonstrate that the spatial distribution of carriers can be controlled within the type-II quantum dots, which makes their properties strongly governed by the band offset of the comprising materials. This allows access to optical transition energies that are not restricted to band gap energies. The type-II quantum dots reported here can emit at lower energies than the band gaps of comprising materials. The type-II emission can be tailored by the shell thickness as well as the core size. The enhanced control over carrier distribution afforded by these type-II materials may prove useful for many applications, such as photovoltaics and photoconduction devices.  相似文献

A method is presented for synthesizing core-shell structures consisting of monodisperse polystyrene latex nanospheres as cores and gold nanoparticles as shells. Use of polystyrene spheres as the core in these structures is advantageous because they are readily available commercially in a wide range of sizes, and with dyes or other molecules doped into them. Gold nanoparticles, ranging in size from 1 to 20 nm, are prepared by reduction of a gold precursor with sodium citrate or tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium chloride (THPC). Carboxylate-terminated polystyrene spheres are functionalized with 2-aminoethanethiol hydrochloride (AET), which forms a peptide bond with carboxylic acid groups on their surface, resulting in a thiol-terminated surface. Gold nanoparticles then bind to the thiol groups to provide up to about 50% coverage of the surface. These nanoparticles serve as seeds for growth of a continuous gold shell by reduction of additional gold precursor. The shell thickness and roughness can be controlled by the size of the nanoparticle seeds as well as by the process of their growth into a continuous shell. By variation of the relative sizes of the latex core and the thickness of the gold overlayer, the plasmon resonance of the nanoshell can be tuned to specific wavelengths across the visible and infrared range of the electromagnetic spectrum, for applications ranging from the construction of photonic crystals to biophotonics. The position and width of the plasmon resonance extinction peak are well-predicted by extended Mie scattering theory.  相似文献

Monodisperse polar gradient particles were synthesized via a three‐step emulsion polymerization using poly(butyl acrylate‐methyl methacrylate‐methacrylic acid‐ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) (P(BA‐MMA‐MAA‐EGDMA)) as core, poly(methyl methacrylate‐methacrylic acid‐styrene) (P(St‐MMA‐MAA)) as interlayer and polystyrene (PSt) as shell. The particle growth and encapsulation in each emulsion polymerization step were followed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS) and conductometric titration. Results indicated that the feeding mode and the interlayer were essential to prepare the polar gradient latex particles with hydrophilic core and hydrophobic shell. The morphologies of the two‐layer core/interlayer and three‐layer core/interlayer/shell particles were observed in TEM micrographs, and the sequential encapsulations of the carboxyl‐containing core and the core/interlayer particles were confirmed by an increase in the particle size as well as an increase in the buried carboxyl percentage.  相似文献

The size and structural changes of nanoparticles formed after the addition of poly(2-vinylpyridine), PVP, to block copolymer micelles of polystyrene-block-poly(methacrylic acid), PS-PMA, were studied by light scattering and atomic force microscopy. Due to the strong hydrogen bonding between PVP and PMA segments, complex structures based on the core/shell micelles form in mixed selective solvents. As proven by a combination of light scattering and atomic force microscopy, individual PS-PMA micelles are "glued" together by PVP chains. The dialysis against solvents with a high content of water results in transient increase in polydispersity and turbidity of originally clear solutions. However, the precipitated polymer material dissolves in basic buffers and stable soluble nanoparticles reform in aqueous media. The behavior of their solutions was studied in a broad pH range by light scattering, atomic force microscopy and capillary zone electrophoresis.  相似文献

Swelling properties of doubly temperature sensitive core-shell microgels consisting of two thermosensitive polymers with lower critical solution temperatures (LCTS) at, respectively, 34 degrees C in the core and 44 degrees C in the shell have been investigated by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). A core-shell form factor has been employed to evaluate the structure, and the real space particle structure is expressed by radial density profiles. By this means, the influences of both shell/core mass composition and shell cross-linker content on the internal structure have been revealed at temperatures above, between, and below the LCSTs. Higher shell/core mass ratios lead to an increased expansion of the core at temperatures between the LCSTs, whereas a variation of cross-linker in the shell mainly effects the dimensions of the shell. The influence on the core structure was interpreted as resulting from an elastic force developed from the swollen shell. At temperatures below the core LCST, the core cannot swell to its native size (i.e., in the absence of a shell), because the maximum expanded shell network prohibits further swelling. Thus, depending on temperature, the shell either expands or compresses the core.  相似文献
