The paper describes an attempt of chemical activation of fly ash and claims the usefulness of combination of such investigation methods as calorimetry and infrared absorption for investigations of early periods of cement hydration. The research samples were cement pastes made with an addition of fly ash and admixtures of chemical activators, CaCl2, Na2SO4 and NaOH, whereas a cement paste without fly ash addition and a cement-fly ash paste (both without admixtures) were used as reference samples. In order to investigate early periods of cement pastes hydration, the amount and rate of heat release were registered, and IR spectrums were checked at appointed hydration moments. As a result, it was shown that the combination of calorimetric and IR absorption methods in the investigations of early periods of cement hydration was useful. It was confirmed that the use of chemical activators CaCl2, Na2SO4 and NaOH accelerated the hydration of cement pastes containing fly ash additive in early hours after adding water. The action of activators on hydrating cement system is different for each of investigated compounds.  相似文献

A lime-pozzolan cement was used to make pastes containing different quantities of MSW fly ash. After setting, the pastes were cured in water at room temperature from 1 h to 260 days. The hydration characteristics and the nature of the hydration products of the various pastes were studied by simultaneous TG/DSC thermal analysis and X-ray diffractometry. The MSW fly ash was found to induce a slowing of the hydration process in lime-pozzolan pastes, and after some days an evident acceleration of hydration reactions occurred. DTA/TG thermoanalytical investigations and X-ray diffractometry were carried out which demonstrate the effect of MSW fly ash on the hydration reactions of pozzolanic cement. The MSW fly ash has high content of calcium sulphate, alkali chlorides and heavy metals. During the first curing period the calcium aluminate reacts with the sulphate to form ettringite. In that period also the presence of syngenite is noted in the pastes. With the growth of the fly ash content of the mixture there is a lengthening of the period in which the hydration reactions of the calcium silicates are inhibited. Subsequently with the progress of hydration in the pastes the CSH phase develops and the formation of calcium chloroaluminate phase is observed. Four paste mixtures with varying replacement level of the cement content by fly ash have been studied. Due to fly ash, the acceleration period decreased and a third hydration peak was noticed with isothermal calorimetry. The total heat after 7 days increased with increasing fly ash content. From 1 to 7 days, thermogravimetry showed a higher chemically bound water and Ca(OH)2-content for the pastes with fly ash. Between 7 and 14 days the calcium hydroxide started to be depleted due to the pozzolanic reaction. A unique relation was found between calcium hydroxide and total heat development.  相似文献

Heat Evolution in Hydrated Cementitious Systems Admixtured with Fly Ash   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
In this study a calorimeter was applied to investigate the hydration of cements with fly ash (pulverised fuel ash – PFA) admixture. Four cements were used to produce the binders containing from 5 to 60% fly ash. The process of hydration in cementitious systems with fly ashes is slower than in reference pastes without admixtures. However, the calorimetric calculations and the shape of heat evolution curves seem to indicate a complex interaction between the components of cement and ash resulting in the increasing total heat evolved values per unit of cement. At higher fly ash content the accelerating effect of alkalis and alumina should be taken into account and discussed in terms of the composition of initial cement. The modifications of hydration kinetics and mechanism in this case is very well visualised by means of calorimetry. The present research is concerning the characterization of FDR (fuel derived from residues) fly ash and mixtures with lime/brick hydraulic binder by DTA/TG/DTG thermo-analysis, X-ray diffractometry and chemical analysis. The use of hydraulic binder obtained from building brick rejects, which is less expensive than the usual solidifiers such as cementitious binder and silicates, allows us to reutilize, in the meantime, this wreckage material, to the advantage of environmental sustainability. Fly ash samples investigated in the present study were separated in a thermo-incineration plant. Mineralogical DTA/TG/DTG and XRD investigations reveal the presence of different phases as well as chemical analysis shows a moderate concentration of heavy metals and high content of chloride and sulphate. Results obtained from leaching tests with water carried out on hardened pastes containing fly ash lead to interesting results, which highlight behaviour to the release of contaminants. The whole of the results obtained in the present study make it possible to regard the objective of disposing such hardened materials in inert waste landfill sites as achievable.  相似文献

The burning of pulverized coal to produce energy for generation of electricity in thermal power plants results in huge quantity of coal ash of varying properties. In India the coal based thermal power plants have been the major source of power generation in the past and would continue for decades to come. Because of the increase in electricity production, the amount of ash produced will increase proportionally. Very few studies on characterization of organic constituents in fly ash from Indian thermal power plants have been reported in the literature. In the present study, the fly ashes generated from five thermal power stations from different parts of India were investigated regarding the elaboration of distribution pattern of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) such as PAHs and PCBs in them. The PAHs in the fly ash samples were identified and quantified using high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC-UV) whereas the estimation of PCB congeners was carried out using gas chromatography (GC-ECD). Lower molecular weight (MW) PAHs, were found to be predominant in fly ash samples. The concentration of Benzo(a)Pyrene which is the most potent carcinogenic PAH, varied between 0.82 ng/g and 18.14 ng/g with a mean concentration of 9.02 ng/g. Among the PCB congeners, CB-77 is having higher toxicity value, the concentrations of which in the fly ash samples were in the range of 4.58 ng/g to 104.98 ng/g with a mean value of 62.53 ng/g.  相似文献

Thermal extraction-GC-MS (TE-GC-MS) is a relatively new analytical technique which demonstrates a large potential for the analysis of various solid matrices. This technique provides a rapid quantitative and simultaneous determination of a wide range of volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds without laborious sample preparation or any chemical pre-treatment. Its amenability to automation and coupling with on-line detection methods makes TE-GC-MS a promising technique, not only in laboratory analysis, but also for in situ emission monitoring. However, the number of studies dedicated to the application of TE-GC-MS to fly ashes, which are an unavoidable by-product of any thermal industrial process and also the sink of many environmental pollutants, is limited. The ability of TE-GC-MS to analyse a wide range of trace semi-volatile dioxin surrogate compounds in fly ash samples is investigated as an alternative to the well-established solvent extraction-GC-MS analysis (SE-GC-MS). Reproducibility, the effect of TE temperature, time, flow, and the influence of the analysed matrix are studied. Dedicated experiments demonstrate that the conversion (dechlorination and in situ formation) of target analytes and the decomposition of the fly ash matrix can take place at elevated TE temperatures and during prolonged TE times. Moreover, these effects are matrix-specific and vary from sample to sample. After optimizing the TE parameters, two fly ash samples of different origins are analysed and more than 50 individual analytes representing different classes of aromatic compounds are quantified and compared with those available from the SE-GC-MS analysis.  相似文献

The results of pozzolanic activity determination using DTA-TG method are presented. This feature was characterised by Ca(OH)2 residue determination in cement pastes admixtured with siliceous earth, consuming the calcium ions from hydrolysis of cement clinker minerals. The rate of pozzolanic reaction was thus estimated. Some results for fly ash containing pastes were also given. Instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) together with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) have been used in the study of fly ash from large electric power and heating plants. Two basic kinds of fly ash originating either from brown coal or heavy-oil combustion can be characterized both by morphology and trace element composition. INAA technique used consisted of both short (1 min) and long (2 h) activations to ensure the determination of 30–40 elements in each fly ash sample. The average composition and determination limits obtained by INAA for coal fly ash produced in several electric power plants burning two kinds of brown coal have been compared with those obtained for fly ash originating from heating plants burning heavy-oil. Coal fly ash showed much higher concentrations of many elements especially of Sc. La, Th, Cs, Ce, Sm, Rb and Al in comparison with oil fly ash. On the other hand, the latter contained relatively high concentrations of V and Ni. The results of INAA of fly ash samples can be used for the projection of efficient separating devices and for the evaluation and prediction of contamination levels in the vicinity of large emission sources.  相似文献

Fly ash is produced in massive quantities by fossil fuel based power plants and waste incinerators, and contains high levels of potentially toxic chemicals. Various leaching tests exist to determine the available fractions, but the outcome is strongly dependent on the experimental conditions, and these have not yet been harmonised at the international level. In order to test existing protocols for heavy metals, several intercomparisons were organised within the framework of an EU-INCO project "ANALEACH", in which seven institutes from five countries participated. Two existing reference materials were made available for the project and test batches of two new fly ash reference materials were produced. Availability tests, leaching tests and pH-stat tests were studied and critical steps in the procedures were identified. Fly ashes can also contain large amounts of inorganic sulphur and nitrogen compounds, and the determination and leaching behaviour of these compounds were also studied. In one intercomparison for metals, inorganic S and N-compounds were also included. A five-step leaching test was optimised for fly ash in order to link metal fractions to different types of binding. Column leaching experiments were carried out to investigate leaching from fly ash into soil, mimicking the effects of (acid) rain on fly ash deposited on topsoil after atmospheric transport. The major fraction of the leached metal ions was retained by the soil. Also large numbers of organic compounds (including many toxic ones) were identified in fly ash extracts, especially in city waste incinerator ash. Leaching procedures based on ultrasonic extraction were developed for organic compounds and an intercomparison exercise was organised. In a field study at the river Nitra(Slovakia) numerous organic pollutants were found at elevated levels downstream from a major fly ash dump site.  相似文献

A modified sequential extraction procedure was developed and applied to characterize the species of metals in fly ash. Two fly ash samples were collected from a coal-fired thermal power plant located in the north of China. A sample was collected from the conventional pulverized coal (PC) combustor and another from the circulating fluidized bed (CFB) combustor. After extraction by the proposed sequential extraction procedure, the elements in the fly ash samples were divided into a water-extractable fraction (F1), an acid-soluble fraction (F2), a reducible fraction (F3), an oxidizable fraction (F4) and a residual fraction (F5). Except for Cu, V, Cd in the PC sample and V, Zn in the CFB sample, most of the other metals were present in the residual fraction (F5), which was very difficult to release into the environment. The fraction distribution patterns in the two samples were also compared. The results indicated that the distribution of metals in different fractions in fly ash samples were probably impacted by different combustion processes.  相似文献

Three bio-fuels with or without additives and their fly ash samples were characterized using simultaneous Thermogravimetry-Differential Thermal Analysis-Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry-Mass Spectrometry (TG-DTA-FTIR-MS), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), and Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (SEM-EDS). The results show that the additives increase the reactivity of the bio-fuel during combustion. The additives also significantly decrease the amount of unburned carbon in the fly ash. The additives affect the compounds formed in the fly ash sample, and consequently the thermal behaviour of the fly ash. The fly ash samples are thermally stable in air up to 100°C. The fly ash samples contain fine particles with irregular shape, small round particles, and large hollow spherical particles with entrapped gases. A microwave assisted digestion procedure has been developed for dissolution of fly ash samples prior to the inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometric determination of their elemental composition. The developed methodology was validated by carrying out the analysis of two high-silicate containing reference materials (CRM 134R sewage amended soil and NIES JR 1 rock) and by means of the comparison between results found by microwave-assisted digestion and ICP-MS of fly ash samples with those found by neutron activation analysis (NAA) for Sb, Cs, Cr, Co, Fe, U and Zn determination. Fly ash has been regarded as hazardous because of its high adsorption of toxic organic and/or inorganic pollutants. Fly ash is also known to have broad distributions of different chemical and physical properties, such as size and density. In this study, fly ash emitted from a solid waste incinerator was pre-fractionated into six sub-populations by use of gravitational SPLITT fractionation (GSF). The GSF fractions were then analyzed by sedimentation field-flow fractionation (SdFFF) and ICP–AES. SdFFF analysis showed the fly ash has a broad size distribution ranging from a few nanometers up to about 50 µm. SdFFF results were confirmed by electron microscopy. Inductively coupled plasma–atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP–AES) analysis of the GSF fractions showed the fly-ash particles contain a variety of inorganic elements including Ca, Si, Mg, Fe, and Pb. The most abundant in fly ash was Ca, followed by Si then Mg. No correlations were found between trace element concentration and particle size.  相似文献

采用管式炉和模拟垃圾对垃圾中氯化物对重金属Pb迁移转化特性的影响进行了研究,使用ICP-AES(美国EPA消解方法)、SEM、EDS和XRD等对重金属浓度、灰渣表面形貌、成分和灰渣X射线衍射物相等进行了分析。结果表明,氯化物含量的增加使得Pb生成更多易挥发性物质,从而向飞灰迁移分布,但有机氯PVC的影响比无机氯NaCl的大。无机氯NaCl和有机氯PVC对焚烧中Pb迁移转化作用机理不同,NaCl易与Pb反应生成PbCl2,而PVC与Pb反应除了生成PbCl2外,还生成了Pb(ClO4)2、PbCl2O4和PbO2。同时焚烧温度和停留时间也是焚烧中Pb迁移分布的两个主要影响因素。  相似文献

Fly ash samples were collected from a Chinese power station and divided according to particle size. The solid fly ash samples were digested according to ASTM methods. The arsenic contents of samples with different particle sizes were analyzed using atomic fluorescence spectroscopy after digestion. Other metals were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometer after digestion, and the carbon content was analyzed by a CHN elemental analyzer. The results show that the arsenic components are enriched in smaller fly ash particles. The arsenic contents have a positive relationship with calcium, magnesium, and iron contents, which indicate that stable compounds are formed between these components. Thermogravimetric experiments of fly ash samples with different particle sizes were conducted, and the results indicate the combination of calcium hydroxide with arsenic form stable compounds.  相似文献

通过激光粒度仪、X射线荧光光谱仪、扫描电子显微镜等现代化分析测试技术对褐煤样、飞灰样以及换热废锅中的积灰样进行了粒度分布、化学组成、晶体矿物组成、微观形貌、微区化学组成等特征的分析,研究影响飞灰黏附特性的因素。并通过引入富集系数,描述各个元素在煤灰、正常飞灰、废锅积灰中的迁移富集情况。结果表明,在废锅积灰中有含铁矿物的生成,同时Na、K、Fe、S、P元素在废锅积灰中发生富集,在飞灰与积灰颗粒边缘处有大量的Fe、Na元素的富集。  相似文献

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are semivolatile organic compounds that may form as a result of incomplete combustion of organic materials. After they are produced in combustion systems, this class of chemicals can be emitted with flue gas or adsorbed in combustion residues such as fly ash and bed ash. The purpose of this study is to develop a thermal extraction (TE) method for the determination of the 16 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency specified priority PAH pollutants in fly ash. The commonly used method for determining PAHs in solid wastes is solvent extraction followed by gas chromatography (GC) or GC-mass spectrometry (MS) analysis. This method is work- and time-intensive and produces solvent waste. In this study, the samples are analyzed using TE and fast GC-time-of-flight (TOF)-MS. The complete process from extraction to analysis can be achieved in less than one hour. The results indicate that the TE-GC-TOF-MS method has good linear range from 1.5 to 60 micro g/g for all 16 PAHs. The recoveries for the 16 target PAHs vary between 83% and 94%.  相似文献

The hydration properties of the binder containing low quality fly ash or limestone powder were compared in this study. Isothermal calorimetry was performed to measure the hydration heat of the binders during the first 3 days. Mercury intrusion porosimetry, scanning electron microscope, and thermogravimetry–differential thermal analysis were all used to determine the pore structure and hydration products of paste. The compressive strength of the pastes of age 3, 7, 28, and 90 days was also tested. The results indicate that the ground low quality fly ash can improve the mechanical properties of composite cementitious material and ameliorate the hydration properties and microstructure compared with the inert admixture limestone powder. The chemical activity of low quality fly ash presents gradually and appears high pozzolanic effect at later period, and it can accelerate the generation of hydration products containing more chemically bonded water. This leads to the higher rate of strength growth and cement hydration degree, the more compact microstructure and reasonable pore size distribution. Additionally, low quality fly ash delays the induction period, but shortens the acceleration period, therefore there is no significant influence on the second exothermic peak occurrence time.  相似文献
