The purpose of this paper is to solve a planning problem faced by many shipping companies dealing with the transport of bulk products. These shipping companies are committed to carrying some contract cargoes and will try to derive additional revenue from optional spot cargoes. An efficient tabu search algorithm has been developed to ensure quick decision support for the planners. The solutions generated by the tabu search heuristic are compared with those produced by a previously published multi-start local search heuristic. Computational results show that the tabu search heuristic yields optimal or near-optimal solutions to real-life instances within reasonable time. For large and tigthly constrained cases, the tabu search heuristic provides much better solutions than the multi-start local search heuristic. A version of the tabu search heuristic will be integrated as an improved solver in a prototype decision support system used by several shipping companies.  相似文献

Solutions produced by the first generation of heuristics for the vehicle routeing problem are often far from optimal. Recent adaptations of local search improvement heuristics, like tabu search, produce much better solutions but require increased computing time. However there are situations where good solutions must be obtained quickly. The algorithm proposed in this paper yields solutions almost as good as those produced by tabu search adaptations, but at only a small fraction of their computing time. This heuristic can be seen as an improved version of the original petal heuristic. On 14 benchmark test problems, the proposed heuristic yields solutions whose values lie on average within 2.38% of that of the best known solutions.  相似文献

The concept of ‘nested methods’ is adopted to solve the location-routeing problem. Unlike the sequential and iterative approaches, in this method we treat the routeing element as a sub-problem within the larger problem of location. Efficient techniques that take into account the above concept and which use a neighbourhood structure inspired from computational geometry are presented. A simple version of tabu search is also embedded into our methods to improve the solutions further. Computational testing is carried out on five sets of problems of 400 customers with five levels of depot fixed costs, and the results obtained are encouraging.  相似文献

The economic lot scheduling problem has driven considerable amount of research. The problem is NP-hard and recent research is focused on finding heuristic solutions rather than searching for optimal solutions. This paper introduces a heuristic method using a tabu search algorithm to solve the economic lot scheduling problem. Diversification and intensification schemes are employed to improve the efficiency of the proposed Tabu search algorithm. Experimental design is conducted to determine the best operating parameters for the Tabu search. Results show that the tabu search algorithm proposed in this paper outperforms two well known benchmark algorithms.  相似文献

In this paper, another version of the vehicle routing problem (VRP)—the open vehicle routing problem (OVRP) is studied, in which the vehicles are not required to return to the depot, but if they do, it must be by revisiting the customers assigned to them in the reverse order. By exploiting the special structure of this type of problem, we present a new tabu search heuristic for finding the routes that minimize two objectives while satisfying three constraints. The computational results are provided and compared with two other methods in the literature.  相似文献

The open vehicle routing problem (VRP) is an immediate variant of the standard vehicle routing problem where the vehicle need not return to the depot after servicing its last customer. In this paper, we present results on an implementation of the attribute-based hill climber heuristic to the open VRP. The attribute-based hill climber heuristic is a parameter-free variant of the tabu search principle and has shown to be highly effective for the standard vehicle routing problem.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to describe an efficient search heuristic for the Maximum Edge-weighted Subgraph (MEwS) problem. This problem requires to find a subgraph such that the sum of the weights associated with the edges of the subgraph is maximized subject to a cardinality constraint. In this study a tabu search heuristic for the MEwS problem is proposed. Different algorithms to obtain an initial solution are presented. One neighborhood search strategy is also proposed. Preliminary computational results are reported for randomly generated test problems of MEwS problem with different densities and sizes. For most of test problems, the tabu search heuristic found good solutions. In addition, for large size test problems, the tabu search outperformed the local search heuristic appearing in the literature.  相似文献

This article proposes lower bounds, as well as a divide and merge heuristic for the multiprocessor scheduling problem with sequence dependent setup times (MSPS). The heuristic is tested on randomly generated instances and compared with a previously published tabu search algorithm. Results show that the proposed heuristic is much faster than tabu search while providing similar quality solutions.  相似文献

A tabu search heuristic procedure is developed, implemented and computationally tested for the capacitated facility location problem. The procedure uses different memory structures. Visited solutions are stored in a primogenitary linked quad tree. For each facility, the recent move at which the facility changed its status and the frequency it has been open are also stored. These memory structures are used to guide the main search process as well as the diversification and intensification processes. Lower bounds on the decreases of total cost are used to measure the attractiveness of the moves and to select moves in the search process. A specialized network algorithm is developed to exploit the problem structure in solving transportation problems. Criterion altering, solution reconciling and path relinking are used to perform intensification functions. The performance of the procedure is tested through computational experiments using test problems from the literature and new test problems randomly generated. It found optimal solutions for almost all test problems from the literature. As compared to the heuristic method of Lagrangean relaxation with improved subgradient scheme, the tabu search heuristic procedure found much better solutions using much less CPU time.  相似文献

This paper deals with two main problems in forest harvesting. The first is that of selecting the locations for the machinery to haul logs from the points where they are felled to the roadside. The second consists in designing the access road network connecting the existing road network with the points where machinery is installed. Their combination induces a very important and difficult problem to solve in forest harvesting. It can be formulated as a combination of two difficult optimization problems: a plant location problem and a fixed charge network flow problem. In this paper, we propose a solution approach based on tabu search. The proposed heuristic includes several enhancements of the basic tabu search framework. The main difficulty lies in evaluating neighboring solutions, which involves decisions related to location of machinery and to road network arcs. Hence, the neighborhood is more complex than in typical applications of metaheuristics. Minimum spanning tree algorithms and Steiner tree heuristics are used to deal with this problem. Numerical results indicate that the heuristic approach is very attractive and leads to better solutions than those provided by state-of-the-art integer programming codes in limited computation times, with solution times significantly smaller. The numerical results do not vary too much when typical parameters such as the tabu tenure are modified, except for the dimension of neighborhood.  相似文献

Scheduling independent tasks on unrelated machines is a relatively difficult and challenging problem. In this paper, we develop a tabu search based heuristic for minimising makespan for the above problem that can provide good quality solutions for practical size problems within a reasonable amount of computational time. Our adaptation of this tabu search uses hashing to control the tabu restrictions of the search process and requires fewer critical parameters than many of the common tabu search approaches employed for combinatorial optimisation. Hashing is simple to implement and very effective in providing a near-optimal solution. Computational results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed heuristic.  相似文献

Neural networks and tabu search are two very significant techniques which have emerged recently for the solution of discrete optimization problems. Neural networks possess the desirable quality of implementability in massively parallel hardware while the tabu search metaheuristic shows great promise as a powerful global search method. Tabu Neural Network (TANN) integrates an analog version of the short term memory component of tabu search with neural networks to generate a massively parallel, analog global search strategy that is hardware implementable. In TANN, both the choice of the element to enter the tabu list as well as the maintenance of the decision elements in tabu status is accomplished via neuronal activities. In this paper we apply TANN to the simple plant location problem. Comparisons with the Hopfield-Tank network show an average improvement of about 85% in the quality of solutions obtained.  相似文献

In the distribution of goods from a central depot to geographically dispersed customers happens quite frequently that some customers, called linehauls, receive goods from that depot while others, named backhauls, send goods to it. This situation is described and studied by the vehicle routing problem with backhauls. In this paper we present a new tabu search algorithm that starting from pseudo-lower bounds was able to match almost all the best published solutions and to find many new best solutions, for a large set of benchmark problems.  相似文献

We propose a tabu search heuristic for the location/allocation problem with balancing requirements. This problem typically arises in the context of the medium term management of a fleet of containers of multiple types, where container depots have to be selected, the assignment of customers to depots has to be established for each type of container, and the interdepot container traffic has to be planned to account for differences in supplies and demands in various zones of the geographical territory served by a container shipping company. It is modeled as a mixed integer program, which combines zero-one location variables and a multicommodity network flow structure. Extensive computational results on a set of benchmark problems and comparisons with an efficient dual ascent procedure are reported. These show that tabu search is a competitive approach for this class of problems.  相似文献

The vehicle routeing problem with multiple use of vehicles is a variant of the standard vehicle routeing problem in which the same vehicle may be assigned to several routes during a given planning period. This paper describes a tabu search heuristic with path relinking for the vehicle routing problem. Tabu search is a local search method that explores the solution space more thoroughly than other local search based methods by overcoming local optima. Path relinking is a method to integrate intensification and diversification in the search. It explores paths that connect previously found elite solutions. Computational results show that tabu search with path relinking is superior to pure tabu search on the vehicle routing problem.  相似文献

In cyclic networks the p-variance location problem is NP-hard, and therefore it is suitable to use heuristic methods to find approximate solutions to the problem. To this end, two strategies are explored, the first using combinatorial search procedures over the vertex set, whereas the second searches for the solution over the entire network. The initial vertex set solutions are generated by using tabu search, variable neighbourhood search and interchange procedures. The heuristics have been tested on instances of up to 30 vertices and 70 edges, and their performances compared.  相似文献

This paper describes an incremental neighbourhood tabu search heuristic for the generalized vehicle routing problem with time windows. The purpose of this work is to offer a general tool that can be successfully applied to a wide variety of specific problems. The algorithm builds upon a previously developed tabu search heuristic by replacing its neighbourhood structure. The new neighbourhood is exponential in size, but the proposed evaluation procedure has polynomial complexity. Computational results are presented and demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a tabu search procedure for solving the uniform graph partitioning problem. Tabu search, an abstract heuristic search method, has been shown to have promise in solving several NP-hard problems, such as job shop and flow shop scheduling, vehicle routing, quadratic assignment, and maximum satisfiability. We compare tabu search to other heuristic procedures for graph partitioning, and demonstrate that tabu search is superior to other solution approaches for the uniform graph partitioning problem both with respect to solution quality and computational requirements.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a variant of the open vehicle routing problem in which vehicles depart from the depot, visit a set of customers, and end their routes at special nodes called driver nodes. A driver node can be the home of the driver or a parking lot where the vehicle will stay overnight. The resulting problem is referred to as the open vehicle routing problem with driver nodes (OVRP-d). We consider three classes of OVRP-d: with no time constraints, with a maximum route duration, and with both a maximum route duration as well as time deadlines for visiting customers. For the solution of these problems, which are not addressed previously in the literature, we develop a new tabu search heuristic. Computational results on randomly generated instances indicate that the new heuristic exhibits a good performance both in terms of the solution quality and computation time.  相似文献
