For a (simple) graph G, the signless Laplacian of G is the matrix A(G)+D(G), where A(G) is the adjacency matrix and D(G) is the diagonal matrix of vertex degrees of G; the reduced signless Laplacian of G is the matrix Δ(G)+B(G), where B(G) is the reduced adjacency matrix of G and Δ(G) is the diagonal matrix whose diagonal entries are the common degrees for vertices belonging to the same neighborhood equivalence class of G. A graph is said to be (degree) maximal if it is connected and its degree sequence is not majorized by the degree sequence of any other connected graph. For a maximal graph, we obtain a formula for the characteristic polynomial of its reduced signless Laplacian and use the formula to derive a localization result for its reduced signless Laplacian eigenvalues, and to compare the signless Laplacian spectral radii of two well-known maximal graphs. We also obtain a necessary condition for a maximal graph to have maximal signless Laplacian spectral radius among all connected graphs with given numbers of vertices and edges.  相似文献

Let α(G) and χ(G) denote the independence number and chromatic number of a graph G, respectively. Let G×H be the direct product graph of graphs G and H. We show that if G and H are circular graphs, Kneser graphs, or powers of cycles, then α(G×H)=max{α(G)|V(H)|,α(H)|V(G)|} and χ(G×H)=min{χ(G),χ(H)}.  相似文献

The D-eigenvalues {μ1,μ2,…,…,μp} of a graph G are the eigenvalues of its distance matrix D and form the D-spectrum of G denoted by specD(G). The greatest D-eigenvalue is called the D-spectral radius of G denoted by μ1. The D-energy ED(G) of the graph G is the sum of the absolute values of its D-eigenvalues. In this paper we obtain some lower bounds for μ1 and characterize those graphs for which these bounds are best possible. We also obtain an upperbound for ED(G) and determine those maximal D-energy graphs.  相似文献

Let G be a connected graph with Colin de Verdière number μ(G). We study the behaviour of μ with respect to the Cartesian product of graphs. We conjecture that if G=G1G2, with G1,G2 connected, then μ(G)?μ(G1)+μ(G2) and prove that μ(G)?μ(G1)+h(G2)-1, where h is the Hadwiger number (i.e. the order of the largest clique minor). In addition we provide an explicit construction of a Colin de Verdière matrix with corank μ(G1)+μ(Kn) for the graph G=G1Kn.  相似文献

In a search for triangle-free graphs with arbitrarily large chromatic numbers, Mycielski developed a graph transformation that transforms a graph G into a new graph μ(G), which is called the Mycielskian of G. This paper investigates the vertex-connectivity κ(μ(G)) and edge-connectivity κ(μ(G)) of μ(G) . We show that κ(μ(G))=min{δ(μ(G)),2κ(G)+1} and κ(μ(G))=δ(μ(G)).  相似文献

Let GB(n,d) be the set of bipartite graphs with order n and diameter d. This paper characterizes the extremal graph with the maximal spectral radius in GB(n,d). Furthermore, the maximal spectral radius is a decreasing function on d. At last, bipartite graphs with the second largest spectral radius are determined.  相似文献

Let G be a simple graph and A(G) be the adjacency matrix of G. The eigenvalues of G are those of A(G). In this paper, we characterize the graphs with the minimal least eigenvalue among all graphs of fixed order with given vertex connectivity or edge connectivity.  相似文献

For two given graphs G and H the planar Ramsey number PR(G,H) is the smallest integer n such that every planar graph F on n vertices either contains a copy of G or its complement contains a copy H. By studying the existence of subhamiltonian cycles in complements of sparse graphs, we determine all planar Ramsey numbers for pairs of cycles.  相似文献

In this paper, we show that among all the connected graphs with n vertices and k cut vertices, the maximal signless Laplacian spectral radius is attained uniquely at the graph Gn,k, where Gn,k is obtained from the complete graph Kn-k by attaching paths of almost equal lengths to all vertices of Kn-k. We also give a new proof of the analogous result for the spectral radius of the connected graphs with n vertices and k cut vertices (see [A. Berman, X.-D. Zhang, On the spectral radius of graphs with cut vertices, J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 83 (2001) 233-240]). Finally, we discuss the limit point of the maximal signless Laplacian spectral radius.  相似文献

The eccentricity e(v) of v is the distance to a farthest vertex from v. The radius r(G) is the minimum eccentricity among the vertices of G and the diameter d(G) is the maximum eccentricity. For graph Ge obtained by deleting edge e in G, we have r(Ge)?r(G) and d(Ge)?d(G). If for all e in G, r(Ge)=r(G), then G is radius-edge-invariant. Similarly, if for all e in G, d(Ge)=d(G), then G is diameter-edge-invariant. In this paper, we study radius-edge-invariant and diameter-edge-invariant graphs and obtain characterizations of radius-edge-invariant graphs and diameter-edge-invariant graphs of diameter two.  相似文献

We present a class of graphs whose adjacency matrices are nonsingular with integral inverses, denoted h-graphs. If the h-graphs G and H with adjacency matrices M(G) and M(H) satisfy M(G)-1=SM(H)S, where S is a signature matrix, we refer to H as the dual of G. The dual is a type of graph inverse. If the h-graph G is isomorphic to its dual via a particular isomorphism, we refer to G as strongly self-dual. We investigate the structural and spectral properties of strongly self-dual graphs, with a particular emphasis on identifying when such a graph has 1 as an eigenvalue.  相似文献

The bondage number b(G) of a nonempty graph G is the cardinality of a smallest edge set whose removal from G results in a graph with domination number greater than the domination number γ(G) of G. Kang and Yuan proved b(G)?8 for every connected planar graph G. Fischermann, Rautenbach and Volkmann obtained some further results for connected planar graphs. In this paper, we generalize their results to connected graphs with small crossing numbers.  相似文献

A connected graph is said to be unoriented Laplacian maximizing if the spectral radius of its unoriented Laplacian matrix attains the maximum among all connected graphs with the same number of vertices and the same number of edges. A graph is said to be threshold (maximal) if its degree sequence is not majorized by the degree sequence of any other graph (and, in addition, the graph is connected). It is proved that an unoriented Laplacian maximizing graph is maximal and also that there are precisely two unoriented Laplacian maximizing graphs of a given order and with nullity 3. Our treatment depends on the following known characterization: a graph G is threshold (maximal) if and only if for every pair of vertices u,v of G, the sets N(u)?{v},N(v)?{u}, where N(u) denotes the neighbor set of u in G, are comparable with respect to the inclusion relation (and, in addition, the graph is connected). A conjecture about graphs that maximize the unoriented Laplacian matrix among all graphs with the same number of vertices and the same number of edges is also posed.  相似文献

We consider the (Ihara) zeta functions of line graphs, middle graphs and total graphs of a regular graph and their (regular or irregular) covering graphs. Let L(G), M(G) and T(G) denote the line, middle and total graph of G, respectively. We show that the line, middle and total graph of a (regular and irregular, respectively) covering of a graph G is a (regular and irregular, respectively) covering of L(G), M(G) and T(G), respectively. For a regular graph G, we express the zeta functions of the line, middle and total graph of any (regular or irregular) covering of G in terms of the characteristic polynomial of the covering. Also, the complexities of the line, middle and total graph of any (regular or irregular) covering of G are computed. Furthermore, we discuss the L-functions of the line, middle and total graph of a regular graph G.  相似文献

An upper bound for the domination number of the direct product of graphs is proved. It in particular implies that for any graphs G and H, γ(G×H)?3γ(G)γ(H). Graphs with arbitrarily large domination numbers are constructed for which this bound is attained. Concerning the upper domination number we prove that Γ(G×H)?Γ(G)Γ(H), thus confirming a conjecture from [R. Nowakowski, D.F. Rall, Associative graph products and their independence, domination and coloring numbers, Discuss. Math. Graph Theory 16 (1996) 53-79]. Finally, for paired-domination of direct products we prove that γpr(G×H)?γpr(G)γpr(H) for arbitrary graphs G and H, and also present some infinite families of graphs that attain this bound.  相似文献

This paper is a survey of the second smallest eigenvalue of the Laplacian of a graph G, best-known as the algebraic connectivity of G, denoted a(G). Emphasis is given on classifications of bounds to algebraic connectivity as a function of other graph invariants, as well as the applications of Fiedler vectors (eigenvectors related to a(G)) on trees, on hard problems in graphs and also on the combinatorial optimization problems. Besides, limit points to a(G) and characterizations of extremal graphs to a(G) are described, especially those for which the algebraic connectivity is equal to the vertex connectivity.  相似文献

The energy of a graph is defined as the sum of the absolute values of all the eigenvalues of the graph. Let G(n,d) be the class of tricyclic graphs G on n vertices with diameter d and containing no vertex disjoint odd cycles Cp,Cq of lengths p and q with p+q2(mod4). In this paper, we characterize the graphs with minimal energy in G(n,d).  相似文献

If G is a connected undirected simple graph on n vertices and n+c-1 edges, then G is called a c-cyclic graph. Specially, G is called a tricyclic graph if c=3. Let Δ(G) be the maximum degree of G. In this paper, we determine the structural characterizations of the c-cyclic graphs, which have the maximum spectral radii (resp. signless Laplacian spectral radii) in the class of c-cyclic graphs on n vertices with fixed maximum degree . Moreover, we prove that the spectral radius of a tricyclic graph G strictly increases with its maximum degree when , and identify the first six largest spectral radii and the corresponding graphs in the class of tricyclic graphs on n vertices.  相似文献

For a graph G, p(G) and c(G) denote the order of a longest path and a longest cycle of G, respectively. Bondy and Locke [J.A. Bondy, S.C. Locke, Relative length of paths and cycles in 3-connected graphs, Discrete Math. 33 (1981) 111-122] consider the gap between p(G) and c(G) in 3-connected graphs G. Starting with this result, there are many results appeared in this context, see [H. Enomoto, J. van den Heuvel, A. Kaneko, A. Saito, Relative length of long paths and cycles in graphs with large degree sums, J. Graph Theory 20 (1995) 213-225; M. Lu, H. Liu, F. Tian, Relative length of longest paths and cycles in graphs, Graphs Combin. 23 (2007) 433-443; K. Ozeki, M. Tsugaki, T. Yamashita, On relative length of longest paths and cycles, preprint; I. Schiermeyer, M. Tewes, Longest paths and longest cycles in graphs with large degree sums, Graphs Combin. 18 (2002) 633-643]. In this paper, we investigate graphs G with p(G)−c(G) at most 1 or at most 2, but with no hamiltonian paths. Let G be a 2-connected graph of order n, which has no hamiltonian paths. We show two results as follows: (i) if , then p(G)−c(G)≤1, and (ii) if σ4(G)≥n+3, then p(G)−c(G)≤2.  相似文献

For a given graph G its Szeged weighting is defined by w(e)=nu(e)nv(e), where e=uv is an edge of G,nu(e) is the number of vertices of G closer to u than to v, and nv(e) is defined analogously. The adjacency matrix of a graph weighted in this way is called its Szeged matrix. In this paper we determine the spectra of Szeged matrices and their Laplacians for several families of graphs. We also present sharp upper and lower bounds on the eigenvalues of Szeged matrices of graphs.  相似文献
