Abelian and Tauberian theorems for a new trigonometric method of summation

We first introduce a new trigonometric method of summation and then prove some Abelian and Tauberian theorems for this method.     

Positive solutions for nonlinear periodic problems

We consider a nonlinear periodic problem driven by the scalar p-Laplacian and with a nonsmooth potential. Using the degree map for multivalued perturbations of (S)₊-operators and the spectrum of a weighted eigenvalue problem for the scalar periodic p-Laplacian, we prove the existence of a strictly positive solution. A Simple Proof of the Borel Extension Theorem and Weak Compactness of Operators

Let T be a locally compact Hausdorff space and let C ₀(T) be the Banach space of all complex valued continuous functions vanishing at infinity in T, provided with the supremum norm. Let X be a quasicomplete locally convex Hausdorff space. A simple proof of the theorem on regular Borel extension of X-valued -additive Baire measures on T is given, which is more natural and direct than the existing ones. Using this result the integral representation and weak compactness of a continuous linear map u: C ₀(T) X when c ₀ X are obtained. The proof of the latter result is independent of the use of powerful results such as Theorem 6 of [6] or Theorem 3 (vii) of [13].     

On the Rate of Convergence of Lp Norms in the Central Limit Theorem for Independent Random Variables

We present the upper and lower bounds of the L _p norms _np of order n ^-1 for all p, 1 p , in the central limit theorem for independent identically distributed random variables with the finite fourth and zero first and third moments of summands. The proof of the upper estimates of the norms _np is based on a linear differential equation formed from the characteristic function of the sum of independent random variables.     

A sufficient condition for self-concordance,with application to some classes of structured convex programming problems

Recently a number of papers were written that present low-complexity interior-point methods for different classes of convex programs. The goal of this article is to show that the logarithmic barrier function associated with these programs is self-concordant. Hence the polynomial complexity results for these convex programs can be derived from the theory of Nesterov and Nemirovsky on self-concordant barrier functions. Positive solutions for Robin problem involving the -Laplacian

Consider Robin problem involving the p(x)-Laplacian on a smooth bounded domain Ω as follows

Applying the sub-supersolution method and the variational method, under appropriate assumptions on f, we prove that there exists λ_*>0 such that the problem has at least two positive solutions if λ(0,λ_*), has at least one positive solution if λ=λ_*<+∞ and has no positive solution if λ>λ_*. To prove the results, we prove a norm on W^1,p(x)(Ω) without the part of ||_L^p(x)(Ω) which is equivalent to usual one and establish a special strong comparison principle for Robin problem.     

Spectral theory for algebraic combinations of Toeplitz and composition operators

We determine the essential spectra of algebraic combinations of Toeplitz operators with continuous symbol and composition operators induced by a class of linear-fractional non-automorphisms of the unit disk. The operators in question act on the Hardy space H² on the unit disk. Our method is to realize the C^*-algebra that they generate as an extension of the compact operators by a concrete C^*-algebra whose invertible elements are easily characterized.     

Solutions for an operator equation under the conditions of pairs of paralleled lower and upper solutions

In this paper, under the condition of two pairs of strict lower and upper solutions and using the concept of (e₁,B)-limit increasing operator, some multiplicity results for an operator equation are obtained by the method of the fixed point index.

The <Emphasis Type="Italic">(S)</Emphasis><Stack><Subscript>+</Subscript><Superscript>1</Superscript></Stack>Condition for Generalized Vector Variational Inequalities

In this paper, we extend the (S) ₊ ¹ condition to multivalued mappings in an ordered Hausdorff topological vector space and we derive some existence results for generalized vector variational inequalities associated with multivalued mappings satisfying the (S) ₊ ¹ condition. We generalize also an existence result of Cubiotti and Yao for generalized variational inequalities of class (S) ₊ ¹ to barreled normed spaces. The Fréchet and limiting subdifferentials of integral functionals on the spaces

A new approach to computing the Fréchet subdifferential and the limiting subdifferential of integral functionals is proposed. Thanks to this way, we obtain formulae for computing the Fréchet and limiting subdifferentials of the integral functional , uL₁(Ω,E). Here is a measured space with an atomless σ-finite complete positive measure, E is a separable Banach space, and . Under some assumptions, it turns out that these subdifferentials coincide with the Fenchel subdifferential of F.     

Local regularity theorems for the stationary thermistor problem with oscillating degeneracy

In this paper we present some regularity results for solutions to the system −Δu=σ(u)²|∇φ|, div(σ(u)∇φ)=0 in the case where σ(u) is allowed to oscillate between 0 and a positive number as u→∞. In particular, we show that u is locally bounded if σ(u) is bounded below by a suitable exponential function.     

Successive iteration and positive symmetric solution for a Sturm–Liouville-like four-point boundary value problem with a -Laplacian operator

In this paper, we consider the following Sturm–Liouville-like four-point p-Laplacian boundary value problem with the nonlinear term f depending on the first-order derivative subject to the boundary conditions By using a monotone iterative technique, the existence of symmetric positive solutions and corresponding iterative schemes are obtained.     

The determining equations for the nonclassical method of the nonlinear differential equation(s) with arbitrary order can be obtained through the compatibility

In this paper, firstly we show that the determining equations of the (1+1) dimension nonlinear differential equation with arbitrary order for the nonclassical method can be derived by the compatibility between the original equation and the invariant surface condition. Then we generalize this result to the system of the (m+1) dimension differential equations. The nonlinear Klein–Gordon equation, the (2+1)-dimensional Boussinesq equation and the generalized Nizhnik–Novikov–Veselov equation serve as examples illustrating this method.
