In this note we consider the fluid queue driven by anM/M/1 queue as analysed by Virtamo and Norros [Queueing Systems 16 (1994) 373–386]. We show that the stationary buffer content in this model can be easily analysed by looking at embedded time points. This approach gives the stationary buffer content distribution in terms of the modified Bessel function of the first kind of order one. By using a suitable integral representation for this Bessel function we show that our results coincide with the ones of Virtamo and Norros.  相似文献

We consider a G / M / 1 queue with two-stage service policy. The server starts to serve with rate of μ1 customers per unit time until the number of customers in the system reaches λ. At this moment, the service rate is changed to that of μ2 customers per unit time and this rate continues until the system is empty. We obtain the stationary distribution of the number of customers in the system.  相似文献

The GI/M/1 queue with exponential vacations   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
In this paper, we give a detailed analysis of the GI/M/1 queue with exhaustive service and multiple exponential vacation. We express the transition matrix of the imbedded Markov chain as a block-Jacobi form and give a matrix-geometric solution. The probability distribution of the queue length at arrival epochs is derived and is shown to decompose into the distribution of the sum of two independent random variables. In addition, we discuss the limiting behavior of the continuous time queue length processes and obtain the probability distributions for the waiting time and the busy period.  相似文献

The central model of this paper is anM/M/1 queue with a general probabilistic feedback mechanism. When a customer completes his ith service, he departs from the system with probability 1–p(i) and he cycles back with probabilityp(i). The mean service time of each customer is the same for each cycle. We determine the joint distribution of the successive sojourn times of a tagged customer at his loops through the system. Subsequently we let the mean service time at each loop shrink to zero and the feedback probabilities approach one in such a way that the mean total required service time remains constant. The behaviour of the feedback queue then approaches that of anM/G/1 processor sharing queue, different choices of the feedback probabilities leading to different service time distributions in the processor sharing model. This is exploited to analyse the sojourn time distribution in theM/G/1 queue with processor sharing. Some variants are also considered, viz., anM/M/1 feedback queue with additional customers who are always present, and anM/G/1 processor sharing queue with feedback.  相似文献

This paper studies a fluid model driven by an M/G/1 queue with multiple exponential vacations. By introducing various vacation strategies to the fluid model, we can provide greater flexibility for the design and control of input rate and output rate. The Laplace transform of the steady-state distribution of the buffer content is expressed through the minimal positive solution to a crucial equation. Then the performance measure-mean buffer content, which is independent of the vacation parameter, is obtained. Finally, with some numerical examples, the parameter effect on the mean buffer content is presented.  相似文献

We show in this paper that the computation of the distribution of the sojourn time of an arbitrary customer in a M/M/1 with the processor sharing discipline (abbreviated to M/M/1 PS queue) can be formulated as a spectral problem for a self-adjoint operator. This approach allows us to improve the existing results for this queue in two directions. First, the orthogonal structure underlying the M/M/1 PS queue is revealed. Second, an integral representation of the distribution of the sojourn time of a customer entering the system while there are n customers in service is obtained.  相似文献

This note considers the N- and D-policies for the M/G/1 queue. We concentrate on the true relationship between the optimal N- and D-policies when the cost function is based on the expected number of customers in the system.  相似文献

Two decompositions are established for the probability transition function of the queue length process in the M/M/1 queue by a simple probabilistic argument. The transition function is expressed in terms of a zero-avoiding probability and a transition probability to zero in two different ways. As a consequence, the M/M/1 transition function can be represented as a positive linear combination of convolutions of the busy-period density. These relations provide insight into the transient behavior and facilitate establishing related results, such as inequalities and asymptotic behavior.  相似文献

Consider a Markov-modulated G/G/1 queueing system in which the arrival and the service mechanisms are controlled by an underlying Markov chain. The classical approaches to the waiting time of this type of queueing system have severe computational difficulties. In this paper, we develop a numerical algorithm to calculate the moments of the waiting time based on Gong and Hu's idea. Our numerical results show that the algorithm is powerful. A matrix recursive equation for the moments of the waiting time is also given under certain conditions.  相似文献

Priority queueing models have been commonly used in telecommunication systems. The development of analytically tractable models to determine their performance is vitally important. The discrete time batch Markovian arrival process (DBMAP) has been widely used to model the source behavior of data traffic, while phase-type (PH) distribution has been extensively applied to model the service time. This paper focuses on the computation of the DBMAP/PH/1 queueing system with priorities, in which the arrival process is considered to be a DBMAP with two priority levels and the service time obeys a discrete PH distribution. Such a queueing model has potential in performance evaluation of computer networks such as video transmission over wireless networks and priority scheduling in ATM or TDMA networks. Based on matrix-analytic methods, we develop computation algorithms for obtaining the stationary distribution of the system numbers and further deriving the key performance indices of the DBMAP/PH/1 priority queue. We consider the M/G/1 queueing system in which customers whose admission to the system would increase the workload beyond a prespecified finite capacity limit are not accepted. Various results on the distribution of the workload are derived; in particular, we give explicit formulas for its stationary distribution for M/M/1 and in the general case, under the preemptive LIFO discipline, for the joint stationary distribution of the number of customers in the system and their residual service times. Furthermore, the Laplace transform of the length of a busy period is determined. Finally, for M/D/1 the busy period distribution is derived in closed form.  相似文献

We consider M/G/1-type queueing systems with disasters, occurring at certain random times and causing an instantaneous removal of the entire residual workload from the system. After such a clearing, the system is assumed to be ready to start working again immediately. We consider clearings at deterministic equidistant times, at random times and at crossings of some prespecified level, and derive the stationary distribution of the workload process for these clearing times and some of their combinations.  相似文献

The PH/PH/1 queue is considered at embedded epochs which form the union of arrival and departure instants. This provides us with a new, compact representation as a quasi-birth-and-death process, where the order of the blocks is the sum of the number of phases in the arrival and service time distributions. It is quite easy to recover, from this new embedded process, the usual distributions at epochs of arrival, or epochs of departure, or at arbitrary instants. The quasi-birth-and-death structure allows for efficient algorithmic procedures. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We consider aM X/G/1 queueing system withN-policy. The server is turned off as soon as the system empties. When the queue length reaches or exceeds a predetermined valueN (threshold), the server is turned on and begins to serve the customers. We place our emphasis on understanding the operational characteristics of the queueing system. One of our findings is that the system size is the sum of two independent random variables: one has thePGF of the stationary system size of theM X/G/1 queueing system withoutN-policy and the other one has the probability generating function j=0 N=1 j z j/ j=0 N=1 j , in which j is the probability that the system state stays atj before reaching or exceedingN during an idle period. Using this interpretation of the system size distribution, we determine the optimal thresholdN under a linear cost structure.  相似文献

This paper proposes easily-computed approximations to the finite-time expected waiting time for anM/G/1 system starting from an empty state. Both unsaturated (ρ<1) and saturated (ρ>1) conditions are considered. Numerical evidence is presented to indicate that the quality of the approximations is usefully good, especially when ease of computation is an issue. Further, the methodology is adapted to assess expected waiting time when inference must be made from a random sample of service times, and the decision is made to do so nonparametrically, i.e., without fitting a specific function. The results appear reasonable and potentially useful, and are not burdensome to obtain. The methodology investigated can also be applied to the variety of queueing models that are close siblings ofM/G/1: priority and breakdowns and “vacations” being examples. Of course other approximating and inferential options remain to be investigated.  相似文献

We analyze an M/G/∞ queue with batch arrivals, where jobs belonging to a batch have to be processed by the same server. The number of jobs in the system is characterized as a compound Poisson random variable through a scaling of the original arrival and batch size processes.  相似文献

This paper deals with a generalized M/G/1 feedback queue in which customers are either “positive" or “negative". We assume that the service time distribution of a positive customer who initiates a busy period is G e (x) and all subsequent positive customers in the same busy period have service time drawn independently from the distribution G b (x). The server is idle until a random number N of positive customers accumulate in the queue. Following the arrival of the N-th positive customer, the server serves exhaustively the positive customers in the queue and then a new idle period commences. This queueing system is a generalization of the conventional N-policy queue with N a constant number. Explicit expressions for the probability generating function and mean of the system size of positive customers are obtained under steady-state condition. Various vacation models are discussed as special cases. The effects of various parameters on the mean system size and the probability that the system is empty are also analysed numerically. A representation for the moments of the number of customers in a M/M/s queueing system is deduced from the Karlin and McGregor representation for the transition probabilities. This representation allows us to study the limit behavior of the moments as time tends to infinity. We study some consequences of the representation for the mean.  相似文献
