Using first-principles density functional calculations, the effect of high pressures, up to 40 GPa, on the structural and elastic properties of ANCa3, with A = P, As, Sb, and Bi, were studied by means of the pseudo-potential plane-waves method. Calculations were performed within the local density approximation and the generalized gradient approximation for exchange-correlation effects. The lattice constants are in good agreement with the available results. The elastic constants and their pressure dependence are calculated using the static finite strain technique. We derived the bulk and shear moduli, Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio and Lamé's constants for ideal polycrystalline ANCa3 aggregates. By analysing the ratio between the bulk and shear moduli, we conclude that ANCa3 compounds are brittle in nature. We estimated the Debye temperature of ANCa3 from the average sound velocity. This is the first quantitative theoretical prediction of the elastic properties of PNCa3, AsNCa3, SbNCa3, and BiNCa3 compounds, and it still awaits experimental confirmation.  相似文献

A first-principles plane wave method with the relativistic analytic pseudopotential of Hartwigsen, Goedecker and Hutter (HGH) scheme in the frame of local density approximation is performed to calculate the lattice parameters and the equation of states (EOS) of superconducting MgB2. Our calculations show that the ratio c/a of about 1.134 is the most stable structure for MgB2, as is consistent with experiment and other theoretical results. Also, the isothermal and isobaric properties are discussed from energy-volume curves using a quasi-harmonic Debey model.  相似文献

Cuprous halides are found to show significantly different behaviour from that of alkali halides. This difference is mainly due to the presence of outermost d-electrons present in Cu+ ion. In the present paper, the ab initio pseudopotential formalism incorporating the effect of d-electrons is used to generate the equation of state (EOS) for group I-VII binary compounds from first-principles calculations. The expression for the EOS is derived for the first time within the pseudopotential framework. The computed isothermal compression curves for cuprous halides are compared with compression curves from other EOSs belonging to different classes and categories and have also been tested for the prediction of end point.  相似文献

The compressibility of turbostratic boron-substituted graphite (t-BC) was measured up to 12 GPa at room temperature using energy-dispersive X-ray powder diffraction with synchrotron radiation. A fit to the experimental p-V data using Birch-Murnaghan equation of state gives values of the t-BC bulk modulus 23(2) GPa and its pressure derivative 8.0(6). These values point to a higher compressibility of t-BC as compared to turbostratic graphite.  相似文献

An investigation into the phase stabilities of CaTiO3 under high pressure was conducted using first-principles calculations based on density functional theory. We have identified three candidate structures of CaTiO3, Pbnm, Pm3m and Cmcm, respectively. Our results demonstrate that a phase transition from orthorhombic (Pbnm) to cubic (Pm3m) is impossible for CaTiO3 under high pressure at ambient temperature, and further predict that Pbnm-CaTiO3 will transform to post-perovskite phase (Cmcm) at enough temperature and pressure.  相似文献

In this paper we present a first-principle study on the energetics of a single As2 molecule on GaSb(0 0 1) reconstructed surface. In order to shed light into the mechanisms of anion exchange at the Sb-rich GaSb(0 0 1) surface, we studied firstly As2 adsorption and then As for Sb exchange. We identify a surface region where both the processes are energetically favored. The results of this twofold analysis can be combined to derive possible reaction paths for the anion exchange process.  相似文献

The geometric structure, electronic structure, optical properties and the formation energy of Sb-doped ZnO with the wurtzite structure are investigated using the first-principles ultra-soft pseudo-potential approach of plane wave based upon the density functional theory. The calculated results indicate that the volume of ZnO doped with Sb becomes larger, and the doping system yields the lowest formation energy of Sb on the interstitial site and the oxygen site. Furthermore, Sb dopant first occupies the octahedral oxygen sites of the wurtzite structure. It is found that Sb substituting on oxygen site behaves as a deep acceptor and shows the p-type degenerate semiconductor character. After doping, the electron density difference demonstrates the considerable electron charge density redistribution, which induces the effect of Sb-doped ZnO to increase the charge overlap between atoms. The density of states move towards lower energy and the optical band gap is broadened. Our culated results are in agreement with other experimental results and could make more precise monitoring and controlling possible during the growth of ZnO p-type materials.  相似文献

The lattice parameters of silicon nitride carbodiimide Si2CN4 have been measured up to 8 GPa at room temperature using energy-dispersive X-ray powder diffraction with synchrotron radiation. A fit of the experimental p-V data to the Birch-Murnaghan equation of state yields the values of the bulk modulus of 8.8(2) GPa and its first pressure derivative of 3.4(1). The compression is found to be anisotropic, with the b-axis being significantly more compressible than the a-and c-axes.  相似文献

The lattice parameters of Al3BC have been measured up to 5 GPa at ambient temperature using energy-dispersive X-ray powder diffraction with synchrotron radiation. A fit to the experimental p-V data using Birch-Murnaghan equation of state gives values of the Al3BC bulk modulus 116(4) GPa and its first pressure derivative 9(2). In the 1.6-4.8 GPa range at temperatures above 1700 K Al3BC undergoes incongruent melting that results in the formation of Al3BC3, AlB2 and liquid aluminum.  相似文献

Using density functional theory (DFT) in combination with nudged elastic band (NEB) method, the dissociative chemisorptions and diffusion processes of hydrogen on both pure and Fe-doped Mg(0 0 0 1) surfaces are studied. Firstly, the dissociation pathway of H2 and the relative barrier were investigated. The calculated dissociation barrier (1.08 eV) of hydrogen molecule on a pure Mg(0 0 0 1) surface is in good agreement with comparable experimental and theoretical studies. For the Fe-doped Mg(0 0 0 1) surface, the activated barrier decreases to 0.101 eV due to the strong interaction between the s orbital of H and the d orbital of Fe. Then, the diffusion processes of atomic hydrogen on pure and Fe-doped Mg(0 0 0 1) are presented. The obtained diffusion barrier to the first subsurface is 0.45 eV and 0.98 eV, respectively. Finally, Chou method was used to investigate the hydrogen sorption kinetic mechanism of pure MgH2 and Mg mixed with 5 at.% Fe atoms composites. The obtained activation energies are 0.87 ± 0.02 and 0.31 ± 0.01 eV for H2 dissociation on the pure surface and H atom diffusion in Fe-doped Mg surfaces, respectively. It suggests that the rate-controlling step is dissociation of H2 on the pure Mg surface while it is diffusion of H atom in the Fe-doped Mg surface. And both of fitting data are matching well with our calculation results.  相似文献

Quasi-hydrostatic compression of aluminum carbide, Al4C3 has been studied to 6 GPa at room temperature using energy-dispersive X-ray powder diffraction with synchrotron radiation. A fit of the experimental p-V data to the Birch equation of state yields the values of the bulk modulus, B0, of 130(5) GPa and the first pressure derivative of the bulk modulus, B0, of 4.6(9). The compression is found to be anisotropic, with the a-axis being more compressible than the c-axis.  相似文献

The adsorption of fluorescein on the Ag(1 1 0) surface has been investigated by the first-principles pseudopotential method. Various adsorption geometries have been calculated and the energetically most favorable structure of fluorescein/Ag(1 1 0) was identified. The fluorescein molecule, in most favorable structure, is on hollow site, and the adsorption energy is 2.34 eV. Here the adsorption sites refer to the positions at the first layer of the substrate where the middle carbon atom of the fluorescein molecule is located. The bonding strength of the fluorescein molecule to the Ag substrate is site selective, being determined by electron transfer to the oxygen atoms of the molecule and local electrostatic attraction between the oxygen atoms and the silver atoms.  相似文献

Adsorption of H2 molecule on the Ti (0 0 0 1)-(2 × 1) surface was studied by density functional theory with generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The parallel and vertical absorption cases were investigated in detail by adsorption energy and electronic structure analysis, we obtained three stable configurations of FCC-FCC (the two H atoms adsorption on the two adjacent fcc sites of Ti (0 0 0 1) surface, respectively), HCP-HCP (the two H atoms adsorption on the two adjacent hcp sites of Ti (0 0 0 1) surface, respectively) and FCC-HCP (the one H atom adsorption on the fcc site and the other adsorption on the near hcp site) based on the six different parallel adsorption sites after the H2 molecule dissociates. However, all the end configurations of four vertical adsorption sites were unstable, H2 molecule was very easy to desorb from Ti surface. The H-H bond breaking and Ti-H bond forming result from the H2 molecule dissociation. H-H bond breaking length ranges from 1.9 Å to 2.3 Å for different adsorption configurations due to the strong Ti-H bond forming. The H2 dissociative approach and the end stable configurations formation in parallel adsorption processes are attributed to the quantum mechanics steering effects.  相似文献

We have investigated the energetic stability and equilibrium geometry of the adsorption of transition metal Fe atoms near the self-organized Bi lines on hydrogen passivated Si(0 0 1) surface. Our total energy results show that there is an attractive interaction between Fe adatoms along the Bi-nanolines. For the energetically most stable configuration, the Fe adatoms are seven-fold coordinated, occupying the subsurface interstitial sites aside the Bi-nanolines. With increased coverage, Fe atoms are predicted to form two parallel lines, symmetrically on both sides of the Bi line. Within our local spin-density functional calculations, we find that for the most stable geometries the Fe adatoms exhibit an antiferromagnetic coupling.  相似文献

We perform first-principles calculations of spin-dependent quantum transport in V doped boron nitride nanotube: the junction of pristine (6,0) boron nitride nanotube in contact with V doped (6,0) boron nitride nanotube electrodes. Large tunnel magnetoresistance and perfect spin filtration effect are obtained. The zero bias tunnel magnetoresistance is found to be several thousand percent, it reduces monotonically to zero with a voltage scale of about 0.65 V, and eventually goes to negative values after the bias of 0.65 V. The ratio of spin injection is above 95% till the bias of 0.85 V and is even as large as 99% for the bias from 0.25 eV to 0.55 eV when the magnetic configurations of two electrodes are parallel. The understanding of the spin-dependent nonequilibrium transport is presented by investigating microscopic details of the transmission coefficients.  相似文献

We have performed first-principles calculations using full potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method within density functional theory (DFT) to investigate the fundamental properties of CuxAg1−xI alloys. We used both GGA96 [J.P. Perdew, K. Burke, M. Ernzerhof, Phys. Rev. Lett. 77 (1996) 3865.] and EVGGA [E. Engel, S.H. Vosko, Phys. Rev. B. 47 (1993) 13164.] generalized gradient approximations of the exchange-correlation energy that are based on the optimization of total energy and corresponding potential. Quantities such as lattice constants, bulk modulus, band gap, density of occupied states and effective mass were calculated as a function of copper molar fraction x. These parameters were found to depend non-linearly on alloy composition x, except the lattice parameter, which follows Vegard's law. The microscopic origins of the gap bowing were explained using the approach of Zunger and co-workers; we have concluded that the band-gap energy bowing was mainly caused by the chemical charge-transfer effect and the volume deformation , while the structural relaxation contribute to the gap bowing parameter at smaller magnitude. The calculated phase diagram shows a broad miscibility gap for this alloy with a high critical temperature.  相似文献

La3Ni2B2N3, which is similar to YNi2B2C and related borocarbides, was earlier studied by the electronic structure calculations [D.J. Singh, W.E. Pickett, Phys. Rev. B 51 (1995) 8668.], and was predicted to be a 3-D metal. In search of new compounds of the borocarbide and related families to get higher TC, we have studied the compound Th3Ni2B2N3, by the first principles full potential electronic structure calculations by the linear augmented plane wave method. We get similar band structure for Th3Ni2B2N3 as found for La3Ni2B2N3, and the various atom-split component density of states show similar properties. The total electron density of states at Fermi level has been increased to about 92 states per Ry per f.u. as compared to 57 states per Ry per f.u. in La3Ni2B2N3. The main increase is due to the increased hybridization of the 5f states as seen by the more prominent low energy tail in the Th-component density of states. Based on this enhancement we predict Th3Ni2B2N3 to be a high temperature superconductor with a Tc in excess of 30 K.  相似文献

The n^th virialcoefficient for a hard-sphere system is expressed as the sum of n^2 and a remainder. When n ≥ 3, the remainders of the viriaJs can be accurately expressed with Pade-type functions of n. The maximum deviations are only 0.039-0.053%, which are much better than the existing approaches. By using the predicted virials, the compressibility factors of the hard-sphere system can be predicted very accurately in the whole stable fluid region, and those in the metastable fluid region can also be well predicted up to a packing fraction of 0.545. The simulated B7 and Bl0 are found to be inconsistent with the other known virials, and thus they are refined to be 53.2467 and 105.042, respectively.  相似文献

Coverage-dependent adsorption energy of the Ge/Ru(0 0 0 1) growth system and the geometrical distortions of the most stable adsorption structure are investigated through first-principles calculations within density functional theory. A local minimum in adsorption energy is found to be at a Ge coverage of 1/7 monolayer with a Ru(0 0 0 1)- symmetry. Based on this stale superstructure, the scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS) images are simulated by means of surface local-density of states (LDOS). The results are consistent well with the STM measurements on the phase for Ge overlayer on Ru(0 0 0 1). From this stimulation, the relations between the STM images and the lattice distortion are also clarified.  相似文献

Pressure dependence of the specific volume, V(P), of the recently discovered high-pressure compound Hf3N4 having cubic Th3P4-type structure (c- Hf3N4) has been measured at room temperature up to 43.9 GPa in a diamond anvil cell using energy-dispersive X-ray powder diffraction combined with synchrotron radiation. A least-square fit of the Birch-Murnaghan equation of state to the experimental V(P)-data yielded for c- Hf3N4 the bulk modulus of and its first pressure derivative of . For fixed at 4 the bulk modulus of c- Hf3N4 was determined to be . The obtained B0-value is only insignificantly below that estimated in preliminary measurements. Existing theoretical predictions for B0 scatter around the present experimental data. The observation of a high bulk modulus of c- Hf3N4 supports the suggestion that this compound could have high hardness.  相似文献
