Ice mixtures of CO2 and H2O are studied using Fourier transform reflection-absorption infrared (RAIR) spectroscopy. Mixtures are prepared by sequential deposition or co-deposition of the two components from the gas phase onto an Al plate kept at 87 K inside a low-pressure chamber. Two CO2 structures are found in most experiments: a crystalline form similar to pure CO2, which evaporates when warming at 105 K, and a noncrystalline species which remains embedded in amorphous water ice after warming. Significant spectral variations are found depending on the deposition method and the thickness of the solid. Features characteristic of the RAIR technique appear in the spectral regions of the normal modes of the bending and asymmetric stretching CO2 vibrations. Simulations using Fresnel theory and Mie scattering are carried out with acceptable agreement with the experimental spectra of solids of variable thickness, from approximately 1 microm to the limit of nanoparticles. Theoretical calculations of a pure CO2 crystal are performed. The relaxed geometry of the solid and its vibrational spectrum are determined and compared to the experimental results.  相似文献

The infrared photodissociation spectra (IRPD) in the 700 to 4000 cm(-1) region are reported for H+ (CO2)n clusters (n = 1-4) and their complexes with argon. Weakly bound Ar atoms are attached to each complex upon cluster formation in a pulsed electric discharge/supersonic expansion cluster source. An expanded IRPD spectrum of the H+ (CO2)Ar complex, previously reported in the 2600-3000 cm(-1) range [Dopfer, O.; Olkhov, R.V.; Roth, D.; Maier, J.P. Chem. Phys. Lett. 1998, 296, 585-591] reveals new vibrational resonances. For n = 2 to 4, the vibrational resonances involving the motion of the proton are observed in the 750 to 1500 cm(-1) region of the spectrum, and by comparison to the predictions of theory, the structure of the small clusters are revealed. The monomer species has a nonlinear structure, with the proton binding to the lone pair of an oxygen. In the dimer, this nonlinear configuration is preserved, with the two CO2 units in a trans configuration about the central proton. Upon formation of the trimer, the core CO2 dimer ion undergoes a rearrangement, producing a structure with near C2v symmetry, which is preserved upon successive CO2 solvation. While the higher frequency asymmetric CO2 stretch vibrations are unaffected by the presence of the weakly attached Ar atom, the dynamics of the shared proton motions are substantially altered, largely due to the reduction in symmetry of each complex. For n = 2 to 4, the perturbation due to Ar leads to blue shifts of proton stretching vibrations that involve motion of the proton mostly parallel to the O-H+-O axis of the core ion. Moreover, proton stretching motions perpendicular to this axis exhibit smaller shifts, largely to the red. Ab initio (MP2) calculations of the structures, complexation energies, and harmonic vibrational frequencies are also presented, which support the assignments of the experimental spectra.  相似文献

An experiment on the addition reaction of a D atom (deuteration) to CO on a cold ice surface is performed by deuterium atom exposure of three types of samples (pure solid CO, CO-capped H2O ice, and CO-H2O mixed ice) at 10-20 K. The variation of IR absorption spectra for the samples was measured by a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer during exposure to deuterium atoms. Reactions on pure solid CO were observed only at 10 K, while reactions on CO-capped H2O ice and CO-H2O mixed ice were observed to proceed even at 20 K. This indicates that the coexistence of H2O at the surface raises the reactive temperature. In addition, the experiment on H atom exposure was also carried out at 15 K to compare the reaction rate constant between the H and D atoms. The ratio of reaction rate constant kD/kH obtained is about 0.08 at 15 K. The authors provide information on the potential energy for the H+CO reaction at the surface by using the ratio kD/kH and by a model calculation of the potential tunneling with the asymmetric Eckart potential.  相似文献

In this work we report some new nonclassical carbonyls of iridium formed after CO adsorption on Ir-ZSM-5 (Ir-MFI). Mainly Ir+ cations were found on sample activated at 523 K and reduced by CO at the same temperature. With CO they formed Ir+(CO)2 gem-dicarbonyls (2104 and 2033 cm(-1)) that decomposed at 673 K without leaving a measurable fraction of monocarbonyls. The dicarbonyl structure was established by 12CO-13CO coadsortpion experiments. In the presence of CO in the gaseous phase and at ambient temperature the Ir+(CO)2 dicarbonyls were converted into Ir+(CO)3 species (2182, 2099, and 2074 cm(-1)). At 100 K these complexes are able to accommodate a fourth CO molecule thus producing tetracarbonyls (2155, 2145, 2125, and 2105 cm(-1)). The results are explained by the high coordinative unsaturation of the Ir+ cations in the ZSM-5 matrix. This is also the reason for the formation of mixed Ir+(H2O)(CO)2 species after CO-H2O coadsorption (2087 and 2015 cm(-1)). Evacuation of the sample at 673 K, followed by treatment with CO at 523 K, generates Ir2+ cations. With CO these cations form another kind of geminal complex, namely, Ir2+(CO)2 species (2173 and 2129 cm(-1)). Here again, the structure was confirmed by 12CO-13CO coadsortpion experiments. These dicarbonyls are decomposed at 573 K (again without producing monocarbonyls) and are able to accommodate additionally neither CO nor water molecules. The results are explained by the smaller cationic radius of Ir2+ (as compared to Ir+), which is associated with a decrease of the number of ligands required for coordinative saturation.  相似文献

This paper describes a systematic study on the clathrate structure of (H+)(H2O)21 using tandem mass spectrometry, vibrational predissociation spectroscopy, Monte Carlo simulations, and density functional theory calculations. We produced (H+)(H2O)n from a continuous corona-discharged supersonic expansion and observed three anomalies simultaneously at the cluster temperature near 150 K, including (1) the peak at n=21 is more intense than its neighboring ions in the mass spectrum, (2) the size-dependent dissociation fractions show a distinct drop for the 21-mer, and (3) the infrared spectrum of (H+)(H2O)21 exhibits only a single feature at 3699 cm(-1), corresponding to the free-OH stretching of three-coordinated water molecules. Interestingly, the anomalies appear or disappear together with cluster temperature, indicating close correlation of these three observations. The observations, together with Monte Carlo simulations and density functional theory calculations, corroborate the notion for the formation of a distorted pentagonal dodecahedral (5(12)) cage with a H2O molecule in the cage and a H3O+ ion on the surface for this "magic number" water cluster ion. The dodecahedral cage melts at higher temperatures, as evidenced by the emergence of a free-OH stretching feature at 3717 cm(-1) for the two-coordinated water in (H+)(H2O)21 produced in a warmer molecular beam. Extension of this study to larger clusters strongly suggests that the experimentally observed isomer of (H+)(H2O)28 is most likely to consist of a distorted protonated pentakaidecahedral (5(12)6(3)) cage enclosing two neutral water molecules.  相似文献

We report vibrational predissociation spectra of the (H2O)n- cluster ions in the OH stretching region to determine whether the spectral signature of the electron-binding motif identified in the smaller clusters [Hammer et al. Science 306, 675 (2004)] continues to be important in the intermediate size regime (n = 7-21). This signature consists of a redshifted doublet that dominates the OH stretching region, and has been traced primarily to the excitation of a single water molecule residing in a double H-bond acceptor (AA) binding site, oriented with both of its H atoms pointing toward the excess electron cloud. Strong absorption near the characteristic AA doublet is found to persist in the spectra of the larger clusters, but the pattern evolves into a broadened triplet around n = 11. A single free OH feature associated with dangling hydrogen atoms on the cluster surface is observed to emerge for n > or = 15, in sharp contrast to the multiplet pattern of unbonded OH stretches displayed by the H+(H2O)n clusters throughout the n = 2-29 range. We also explore the vibration-electronic coupling associated with normal-mode displacements of the AA molecule that most strongly interact with the excess electron. Specifically, electronic structure calculations on the hexamer anion indicate that displacement along the -OH2 symmetric stretching mode dramatically distorts the excess electron cloud, thus accounting for the anomalously large oscillator strength of the AA water stretching vibrations. We also discuss these vibronic interactions in the context of a possible relaxation mechanism for the excited electronic states involving the excess electron.  相似文献

We have carried out large-scale calculations for accurate vibrational energy levels of formaldehyde and hydrogen peroxide. The discrete variable representations of the radial and angular coordinates are employed together with the contraction scheme resulting from several diagonalization/truncation steps. The global potential energy surface due to Carter et al. [J. Mol. Spectrosc. 90 (1997) 729] is used for H2CO and due to Koput et al. [J. Phys. Chem. A 102 (1998) 6325] for H2O2. For both molecules, the calculated vibrational energy levels are characterized by combining vibrationally averaged geometries and expectation values of rotational constants with several adiabatic projection schemes for automatic quantum number assignments. The energy levels of H2CO involving the excited v2 and v3 vibrations appear as resonances beyond the zero-order picture consisting of uncoupled 3D stretching and 2D bending modes. The torsional energy levels of H2O2 are studied in great detail and different energy patterns occurring below and above the cis barrier are discussed. Our full dimensional calculations for H2O2 have shown that the OH triad levels, 2vOH, are symmetry adapted local mode states.

The infrared photodissociation spectra of [(CO 2) n (CH 3OH) m ] (-) ( n = 1-4, m = 1, 2) are measured in the 2700-3700 cm (-1) range. The observed spectra consist of an intense broad band characteristic of hydrogen-bonded OH stretching vibrations at approximately 3300 cm (-1) and congested vibrational bands around 2900 cm (-1). No photofragment signal is observed for [(CO 2) 1,2(CH 3OH) 1] (-) in the spectral range studied. Ab initio calculations are performed at the MP2/6-311++G** level to obtain structural information such as optimized structures, stabilization energies, and vibrational frequencies of [(CO 2) n (CH 3OH) m ] (-). Comparison between the experimental and the theoretical results reveals the structural properties of [(CO 2) n (CH 3OH) m ] (-): (1) the incorporated CH 3OH interacts directly with either CO 2 (-) or C 2O 4 (-) core by forming an O-HO linkage; (2) the introduction of CH 3OH promotes charge localization in the clusters via the hydrogen-bond formation, resulting in the predominance of CO 2 (-).(CH 3OH) m (CO 2) n-1 isomeric forms over C 2O 4 (-).(CH 3OH) m (CO 2) n-2 ; (3) the hydroxyl group of CH 3OH provides an additional solvation cite for neutral CO 2 molecules.  相似文献

The C2H2 + O(3P) and HCCO + O(3P) reactions are investigated using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) emission spectroscopy. The O(3P) radicals are produced by 193 nm photolysis of an SO2 precursor or microwave discharge in O2. The HCCO radical is either formed in the first step of the C2H2 + O(3P) reaction or by 193 nm photodissociation of ethyl ethynyl ether. Vibrationally excited CO and CO2 products are observed. The microwave discharge experiment [C2H2 + O(3P)] shows a bimodal distribution of the CO(v) product, which is due to the sequential C2H2 + O(3P) and HCCO + O(3P) reactions. The vibrational distribution of CO(v) from the HCCO + O(3P) reaction also shows its own bimodal shape. The vibrational distribution of CO(v) from C2H2 + O(3P) can be characterized by a Boltzmann plot with a vibrational temperature of approximately 2400 +/- 100 K, in agreement with previous results. The CO distribution from the HCCO + O(3P) reaction, when studied under conditions to minimize other processes, shows very little contamination from other reactions, and the distribution can be characterized by a linear combination of Boltzmann plots with two vibrational temperatures: 2320 +/- 40 and 10 300 +/- 600 K. From the experimental results and previous theoretical work, the bimodal CO(v) distribution for the HCCO + O(3P) reaction suggests a sequential dissociation process of the HC(O)CO++ --> CO + HCO; HCO --> H + CO.  相似文献

The vibrational characteristics (vibrational frequencies and infrared intensities) for the hydrogen-bonded complex of phenol with four water molecules PhOH...(H2O)4 (structure 4A) have been predicted using ab initio and DFT (B3LYP) calculations with 6-31G(d,p) basis set. The changes in the vibrational characteristics from free monomers to a complex have been calculated. The ab initio and B3LYP calculations show that the observed four intense bands at 3299, 3341, 3386 and 3430 cm(-1) can be assigned to the hydrogen-bonded OH stretching vibrations in the complex PhOH...(H2O)4 (4A). The complexation leads to very large red shifts of these vibrations and very strong increase in their IR intensity. The predicted red shifts for these vibrations with B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) calculations are in very good agreement with the experimentally observed. It was established that the phenolic OH stretching vibration is the most sensitive to the hydrogen bonding. The predicted red-shift with the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) calculations for the most stable ring structure 4A (-590 cm(-1)) is in better agreement with the experimentally observed than the red-shift, predicted with SCF/6-31G(d,p) calculations. The magnitude of the wavenumber shift is indicative of relatively strong OH...H hydrogen-bonded interaction. The complexation between phenol and four water molecules leads to strong increase of the IR intensity of the phenolic OH stretching vibration (up to 38 times).  相似文献

Vibrational spectroscopy techniques are commonly used to probe the atomic-scale structure of silica species in aqueous solution and hydrous silica glasses. However, unequivocal assignment of individual spectroscopic features to specific vibrational modes is challenging. In this contribution, we establish a connection between experimentally observed vibrational bands and ab initio molecular dynamics (MD) of silica species in solution and in hydrous silica glass. Using the mode-projection approach, we decompose the vibrations of silica species into subspectra resulting from several fundamental structural subunits: The SiO(4) tetrahedron of symmetry T(d), the bridging oxygen (BO) Si-O-Si of symmetry C(2v), the geminal oxygen O-Si-O of symmetry C(2v), the individual Si-OH stretching, and the specific ethane-like symmetric stretching contribution of the H(6)Si(2)O(7) dimer. This allows us to study relevant vibrations of these subunits in any degree of polymerization, from the Q(0) monomer up to the fully polymerized Q(4) tetrahedra. Demonstrating the potential of this approach for supplementing the interpretation of experimental spectra, we compare the calculated frequencies to those extracted from experimental Raman spectra of hydrous silica glasses and silica species in aqueous solution. We discuss observed features such as the double-peaked contribution of the Q(2) tetrahedral symmetric stretch, the individual Si-OH stretching vibrations, the origin of the experimentally observed band at 970 cm(-1) and the ethane-like vibrational contribution of the H(6)Si(2)O(7) dimer at 870 cm(-1).  相似文献

The full nine-dimensional vibrational Hamiltonian for H5 + described in the literature [Kraemer et al., J. Mol. Spectrosc. 164, 500 (1994)] is adopted here for an approximate evaluation of the spectral linewidths of the observed H-H stretching modes of the H5 + ion and the corresponding modes of its D5 + isotopomer. In this approximation the high dimensionality of the original Hamiltonian is reduced to a three-dimensional model Hamiltonian which takes only the H-H stretching modes and the molecular dissociation mode into consideration assuming that they are adiabatically separable from the remaining modes. To make the calculations numerically feasible, the molecular degenerate ("skeletal") vibrations are assumed to take place in harmonic potentials, and the effect of the internal propeller rotation is completely disregarded. The linewidths calculated in this approximation are too small to explain the broad shapes of the observed spectral transitions. It can thus be argued that the failure to resolve rotational structure in the observed bands is mainly due to spectral congestion and only partly due to predissociation of the H5 + cluster.  相似文献

Predissociation spectra of the H(5)O(2) (+)RG(n)(RG = Ar,Ne) cluster ions are reported in energy regions corresponding to both the OH stretching (3350-3850 cm(-1)) and shared proton (850-1950 cm(-1)) vibrations. The two free OH stretching bands displayed by the Ne complex are quite close to the band origins identified earlier in bare H(5)O(2) (+) [L. I. Yeh, M. Okumura, J. D. Myers, J. M. Price, and Y. T. Lee, J. Chem. Phys. 91, 7319 (1989)], indicating that the symmetrical H(5)O(2) (+) "Zundel" ion remains largely intact in H(5)O(2) (+)Ne. The low-energy spectrum of the Ne complex is simpler than that observed previously for H(5)O(2) (+)Ar, and is dominated by two sharp transitions at 928 and 1047 cm(-1), with a weaker feature at 1763 cm(-1). The H(5)O(2) (+)Ar(n),n = 1-5 spectra generally exhibit complex band structures reflecting solvent-induced symmetry breaking of the Zundel core ion. The extent of solvent perturbation is evaluated with electronic structure calculations, which predict that the rare gas atoms should attach to the spectator OH groups of H(5)O(2) (+) rather than to the shared proton. In the asymmetric complexes, the shared proton resides closer to the more heavily solvated water molecule, leading to redshifts in the rare gas atom-solvated OH stretches and to blueshifts in the shared proton vibrations. The experimental spectra are compared with recent full-dimensional vibrational calculations (diffusion Monte Carlo and multimode/vibrational configuration interaction) on H(5)O(2) (+). These results are consistent with assignment of the strong low-energy bands in the H(5)O(2) (+)Ne spectrum to the vibration of the shared proton mostly along the O-O axis, with the 1763 cm(-1) band traced primarily to the out-of-phase, intramolecular bending vibrations of the two water molecules.  相似文献

We investigate the formation mechanism of HXeCCXeH in a Xe matrix. Our experimental results show that the HXeCCXeH molecules are formed in the secondary reactions involving HXeCC radicals. The experimental data on the formation of HXeCCXeH is fully explained based on the model involving the HXeCC+Xe+H-->HXeCCXeH reaction. This reaction is the first case when a noble-gas hydride molecule is formed from another noble-gas molecule. In addition, we investigate the (12)C/(13)C isotope effect on the vibrational properties of organo-noble-gas hydrides (HKrCCH, HXeCCH, HXeCC, and HXeCCXeH) in noble-gas matrixes. The present experimental results and ab initio calculations on carbon isotope shifts of the vibrational modes support the previous assignments of these molecules. Upon (12)C to (13)C isotope substitution, we observed a pronounced effect on the H-Kr stretching mode of HKrCCH (downshift of 1.0-3.6 cm(-1), depending on the matrix site) and a small anomalous shift (+0.1 cm(-1)) of the H-Xe stretching mode of HXeCCH and HXeCCXeH.  相似文献

Raman spectroscopy at 298 and 77K has been used to study the mineral kamotoite-(Y), a uranyl rare earth carbonate mineral of formula Y(2)(UO(2))(4)(CO(3))(3)(OH)(8).10-11H(2)O. The mineral is characterised by two Raman bands at 1130.9 and 1124.6 cm(-1) assigned to the nu(1) symmetric stretching mode of the (CO(3))(2-) units, while those at 1170.4 and 862.3 cm(-1) (77K) to the deltaU-OH bending vibrations. The assignment of the two bands at 814.7 and 809.6 cm(-1) is difficult because of the potential overlap between the symmetric stretching modes of the (UO(2))(2+) units and the nu(2) bending modes of the (CO(3))(2-) units. Only a single band is observed in the 77K spectrum at 811.6 cm(-1). One possible assignment is that the band at 814.7 cm(-1) is attributable to the nu(1) symmetric stretching mode of the (UO(2))(2+) units and the second band at 809.6 cm(-1) is due to the nu(2) bending modes of the (CO(3))(2-) units. Bands observed at 584 and 547.3 cm(-1) are attributed to water librational modes. An intense band at 417.7 cm(-1) resolved into two components at 422.0 and 416.6 cm(-1) in the 77K spectrum is assigned to an Y(2)O(2) stretching vibration. Bands at 336.3, 286.4 and 231.6 cm(-1) are assigned to the nu(2) (UO(2))(2+) bending modes. U-O bond lengths in uranyl are calculated from the wavenumbers of the uranyl symmetric stretching vibrations. The presence of symmetrically distinct uranyl and carbonate units in the crystal structure of kamotoite-(Y) is assumed. Hydrogen-bonding network related to the presence of water molecules and hydroxyls is shortly discussed.  相似文献

The electronic and infrared spectra of 2-fluoropyridine-methanol clusters were observed in a supersonic free jet. The structure of hydrogen-bonded clusters of 2-fluoropyridine with methanol was studied on the basis of the molecular orbital calculations. The IR spectra of 2-fluoropyridine-(CH3OH)n(n = 1-3) clusters were observed with a fluorescence-detected infrared depletion (FDIR) technique in the OH and CH stretching vibrational regions. The structures of the clusters are similar to those observed for 2-fluoropyridine-(H2O)n (n = 1-3) clusters. The existence of weak hydrogen bond interaction through aromatic hydrogen was observed in the IR spectra. The theoretical calculation also supports the result. The vibrational frequencies of CH bonds in CH3 group are affected by hydrogen bond formation although these bonds do not directly relate to the hydrogen bond interaction. The B3LYP/6-311 ++G(d,p) calculations reproduce well the vibrational frequency of the hydrogen-bonded OH stretching vibrations. However, the calculated frequency of CH stretching vibration could not reproduce the IR spectra because of anharmonic interaction with closely lying overtone or combination bands for nu3 and nu9 vibrations. The vibrational shift of nu2 vibration is reproduced well with molecular orbital calculations. The calculation also shows that the frequency shift of nu2 vibration is closely related to the CH bond length at the trans position against the OH bond in hydrogen-bonded methanol.  相似文献

The structure of the hydrotalcite desautelsite Mg6Mn2CO3(OH)16.4H2O has been studied by a combination of Raman and infrared spectroscopy. Three intense Raman bands are observed at 1086, 1062 and 1055 cm(-1). A model based upon the observation of three CO3 stretching vibrations is presented. The CO3 anion may be (a) non-hydrogen bonded, (b) hydrogen bonded to the interlayer water and (c) hydrogen bonded to the brucite-like hydroxyl surface. Two intense bands at 3646 and 3608 cm(-1) are attributed to MgOH and MnOH stretching vibrations. Infrared bands at 3476, 3333, 3165 and 2991 cm(-1) are assigned to water stretching bands. Raman spectroscopy has proven a powerful tool for the study of hydrotalcite minerals.  相似文献
