Multiplicative programming problems (MPPs) are global optimization problems known to be NP-hard. In this paper, we employ algorithms developed to compute the entire set of nondominated points of multi-objective linear programmes (MOLPs) to solve linear MPPs. First, we improve our own objective space cut and bound algorithm for convex MPPs in the special case of linear MPPs by only solving one linear programme in each iteration, instead of two as the previous version indicates. We call this algorithm, which is based on Benson’s outer approximation algorithm for MOLPs, the primal objective space algorithm. Then, based on the dual variant of Benson’s algorithm, we propose a dual objective space algorithm for solving linear MPPs. The dual algorithm also requires solving only one linear programme in each iteration. We prove the correctness of the dual algorithm and use computational experiments comparing our algorithms to a recent global optimization algorithm for linear MPPs from the literature as well as two general global optimization solvers to demonstrate the superiority of the new algorithms in terms of computation time. Thus, we demonstrate that the use of multi-objective optimization techniques can be beneficial to solve difficult single objective global optimization problems.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Optimization over the efficient set of a multi-objective optimization problem is a mathematical model for the problem of selecting a most preferred solution that arises in multiple criteria decision-making to account for trade-offs between objectives within the set of efficient solutions. In this paper, we consider a particular case of this problem, namely that of optimizing a linear function over the image of the efficient set in objective space of a convex multi-objective optimization problem. We present both primal and dual algorithms for this task. The algorithms are based on recent algorithms for solving convex multi-objective optimization problems in objective space with suitable modifications to exploit specific properties of the problem of optimization over the efficient set. We first present the algorithms for the case that the underlying problem is a multi-objective linear programme. We then extend them to be able to solve problems with an underlying convex multi-objective optimization problem. We compare the new algorithms with several state of the art algorithms from the literature on a set of randomly generated instances to demonstrate that they are considerably faster than the competitors.  相似文献

A convex optimization problem for a strictly convex objective function over the fixed point set of a nonexpansive mapping includes a network bandwidth allocation problem, which is one of the central issues in modern communication networks. We devised an iterative algorithm, called a fixed point optimization algorithm, for solving the convex optimization problem and conducted a convergence analysis on the algorithm. The analysis guarantees that the algorithm, with slowly diminishing step-size sequences, weakly converges to a unique solution to the problem. Moreover, we apply the proposed algorithm to a network bandwidth allocation problem and show its effectiveness.  相似文献

Outcome space methods construct the set of nondominated points in the objective (outcome) space of a multiple objective linear programme. In this paper, we employ results from geometric duality theory for multiple objective linear programmes to derive a dual variant of Benson’s “outer approximation algorithm” to solve multiobjective linear programmes in objective space. We also suggest some improvements of the original version of the algorithm and prove that solving the dual provides a weight set decomposition. We compare both algorithms on small illustrative and on practically relevant examples.  相似文献

Optimization problems that involve products of convex functions in the objective function or in the constraints arise in a variety of applications. These problems are difficult global optimization problems. During the past 15 years, however, a number of practical algorithms have been proposed for globally solving these types of problems. In this article, we present and validate a branch-and-reduce algorithm for finding a global optimal solution to a convex program that contains an additional constraint on the product of several convex functions. To globally solve this problem, the algorithm instead globally solves an equivalent master problem. At any stage of the algorithm, a disconnected set consisting of a union of simplices is constructed. This set is guaranteed to contain a portion of the boundary of the feasible region of the master problem where a global optimal solution lies. The algorithm uses a new branch-and-reduce scheme to iteratively reduce the sizes of these sets until a global optimal solution is found. Several potential computational advantages of the algorithm are explained, and a numerical example is solved.  相似文献

Abstract. Erd?s asked whether every large enough set of points in general position in the plane contains six points that form a convex 6-gon without any points from the set in its interior. In this note we show how a set of 29 points was found that contains no empty convex 6-gon. To this end a fast incremental algorithm for finding such 6-gons was designed and implemented and a heuristic search approach was used to find promising sets. The experiments also led to two observations that might be useful in proving that large sets always contain an empty convex 6-gon.  相似文献

We consider maximising a concave function over a convex set by a simple randomised algorithm. The strength of the algorithm is that it requires only approximate function evaluations for the concave function and a weak membership oracle for the convex set. Under smoothness conditions on the function and the feasible set, we show that our algorithm computes a near-optimal point in a number of operations which is bounded by a polynomial function of all relevant input parameters and the reciprocal of the desired precision, with high probability. As an application to which the features of our algorithm are particularly useful we study two-stage stochastic programming problems. These problems have the property that evaluation of the objective function is #P-hard under appropriate assumptions on the models. Therefore, as a tool within our randomised algorithm, we devise a fully polynomial randomised approximation scheme for these function evaluations, under appropriate assumptions on the models. Moreover, we deal with smoothing the feasible set, which in two-stage stochastic programming is a polyhedron.  相似文献

In multi-objective convex optimization it is necessary to compute an infinite set of nondominated points. We propose a method for approximating the nondominated set of a multi-objective nonlinear programming problem, where the objective functions and the feasible set are convex. This method is an extension of Benson’s outer approximation algorithm for multi-objective linear programming problems. We prove that this method provides a set of weakly ε-nondominated points. For the case that the objectives and constraints are differentiable, we describe an efficient way to carry out the main step of the algorithm, the construction of a hyperplane separating an exterior point from the feasible set in objective space. We provide examples that show that this cannot always be done in the same way in the case of non-differentiable objectives or constraints.  相似文献

In this paper an algorithm is developed to generate all nondominated extreme points and edges of the set of objective values of a multiple objective linear program. The approach uses simplex tableaux but avoids generating unnecessary extreme points or bases of extreme points. The procedure is based on, and improves, an algorithm Dauer and Liu developed for this problem. Essential to this approach is the work of Gal and Kruse on the neighborhood problem of determining all extreme points of a convex polytope that are adjacent to a given (degenerate) extreme point of the set. The algorithm will incorporate Gal's degeneracy graph approach to the neighborhood problem with Dauer's objective space analysis of multiple objective linear programs.  相似文献

In this paper, an algorithm of barrier objective penalty function for inequality constrained optimization is studied and a conception–the stability of barrier objective penalty function is presented. It is proved that an approximate optimal solution may be obtained by solving a barrier objective penalty function for inequality constrained optimization problem when the barrier objective penalty function is stable. Under some conditions, the stability of barrier objective penalty function is proved for convex programming. Specially, the logarithmic barrier function of convex programming is stable. Based on the barrier objective penalty function, an algorithm is developed for finding an approximate optimal solution to an inequality constrained optimization problem and its convergence is also proved under some conditions. Finally, numerical experiments show that the barrier objective penalty function algorithm has better convergence than the classical barrier function algorithm.  相似文献

The geometric duality theory of Heyde and Löhne (2006) defines a dual to a multiple objective linear programme (MOLP). In objective space, the primal problem can be solved by Benson’s outer approximation method (Benson 1998a,b) while the dual problem can be solved by a dual variant of Benson’s algorithm (Ehrgott et al. 2007). Duality theory then assures that it is possible to find the (weakly) nondominated set of the primal MOLP by solving its dual. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to solve the dual MOLP approximately but within specified tolerance. This approximate solution set can be used to calculate an approximation of the weakly nondominated set of the primal. We show that this set is a weakly ε-nondominated set of the original primal MOLP and provide numerical evidence that this approach can be faster than solving the primal MOLP approximately.  相似文献

The UTAs (UTilité Additives) type methods for constructing nondecreasing additive utility functions were first proposed by Jacquet-Lagrèze and Siskos in 1982 for handling decision problems of multicriteria ranking. In this article, by UTA functions, we mean functions which are constructed by the UTA type methods. Our purpose is to propose an algorithm for globally maximizing UTA functions of a class of linear/convex multiple objective programming problems. The algorithm is established based on a branch and bound scheme, in which the branching procedure is performed by a so-called I-rectangular bisection in the objective (outcome) space, and the bounding procedure by some convex or linear programs. Preliminary computational experiments show that this algorithm can work well for the case where the number of objective functions in the multiple objective optimization problem under consideration is much smaller than the number of variables.  相似文献

We use normal directions of the outcome set to develop a method of outer approximation for solving generalized convex multiobjective programming problems. We prove the convergence of the method and report some computational experiments. This paper addresses the minimization of the product ofp convex functions on a convex set. It is shown that this nonconvex problem can be converted to a concave minimization problem withp variables, whose objective function value is determined by solving a convex minimization problem. An outer approximation method is proposed for obtaining a global minimum of the resulting problem. We consider the problem of scheduling a set of classes to classrooms with the objective of minimizing the number of classrooms used. The major constraint that we must obey is that no two classes can be assigned to the same classroom at the same time on the same day of the week. We present an algorithm that produces a nearly optimal schedule for an arbitrary set of classes. The algorithm's first stage produces a packing of classes using a combination of a greedy algorithm and a non-bipartite matching and the second stage consists of a bipartite matching.First we show that for one variant of the problem our algorithm produces schedules that require a number of classrooms that is always within a small additive constant of optimal. Then we show that for an interesting variant of the problem the same algorithm produces schedules that require a small constant factor more classrooms than optimal. Finally, we report on experimental results of our algorithm using actual data and also show how to create schedules with other desirable characteristics.  相似文献

In this article, we present an algorithm to compute the minimum norm solution of the positive semidefinite linear complementarity problem. We show that its solution can be obtained using the alternative theorems and a convenient characterization of the solution set of a convex quadratic programming problem. This problem reduces to an unconstrained minimization problem with once differentiable convex objective function. We propose an extension of Newton's method for solving the unconstrained optimization problem. Computational results show that convergence to high accuracy often occurs in just a few iterations.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a reverse convex programming problem constrained by a convex set and a reverse convex set, which is defined by the complement of the interior of a compact convex set X. We propose an inner approximation method to solve the problem in the case where X is not necessarily a polytope. The algorithm utilizes an inner approximation of X by a sequence of polytopes to generate relaxed problems. It is shown that every accumulation point of the sequence of optimal solutions of the relaxed problems is an optimal solution of the original problem.  相似文献

We treat a concave programming problem with a compact convex feasible set. Assuming the differentiability of the convex functions which define the feasible set, we propose two solution methods. Those methods utilize the convexity of the feasible set and the property of the normal cone to the feasible set at each point over the boundary. Based on the proposed two methods, we propose a solution algorithm. This algorithm takes advantages over classical methods: (1) the obtained approximate solution is always feasible, (2) the error of such approximate value can be evaluated properly for the optimal value of such problem, (3) the algorithm does not have any redundant iterations.  相似文献
