Heteronuclear transition‐metal–main‐group‐element carbonyl complexes of AsFe(CO)3, SbFe(CO)3, and BiFe(CO)3 were produced by a laser vaporization supersonic ion source in the gas phase, and were studied by mass‐selected IR photodissociation spectroscopy and advanced quantum chemistry methods. These complexes have C3v structures with all of the carbonyl ligands bonded on the iron center, and feature covalent triple bonds between bare Group 15 elements and Fe(CO)3. Chemical bonding analyses on the whole series of AFe(CO)3 (A=N, P, As, Sb, Bi, Mc) complexes indicate that the valence orbitals involved in the triple bonds are hybridized 3d and 4p atomic orbitals of iron, leading to an unusual (dp–p) type of transition‐metal–main‐group‐element multiple bonding. The σ‐type three‐orbital interaction between Fe 3d/4p and Group 15 np valence orbitals plays an important role in the bonding and stability of the heavier AFe(CO)3 (A=As, Sb, Bi) complexes.  相似文献

We report the gas‐phase synthesis of stable 20‐electron carbonyl anion complexes of group 3 transition metals, TM(CO)8? (TM=Sc, Y, La), which are studied by mass‐selected infrared (IR) photodissociation spectroscopy. The experimentally observed species, which are the first octacarbonyl anionic complexes of a TM, are identified by comparison of the measured and calculated IR spectra. Quantum chemical calculations show that the molecules have a cubic (Oh) equilibrium geometry and a singlet (1A1g) electronic ground state. The 20‐electron systems TM(CO)8? are energetically stable toward loss of one CO ligand, yielding the 18‐electron complexes TM(CO)7? in the 1A1 electronic ground state; these exhibit a capped octahedral structure with C3v symmetry. Analysis of the electronic structure of TM(CO)8? reveals that there is one occupied valence molecular orbital with a2u symmetry, which is formed only by ligand orbitals without a contribution from the metal atomic orbitals. The adducts of TM(CO)8? fulfill the 18‐electron rule when only those valence electrons that occupy metal–ligand bonding orbitals are considered.  相似文献

Heteronuclear Group 3 metal/iron carbonyl anion complexes ScFe(CO)3?, YFe(CO)3?, and LaFe(CO)3? are prepared in the gas phase and studied by mass‐selective infrared (IR) photodissociation spectroscopy as well as quantum‐chemical calculations. All three anion complexes are characterized to have a metal–metal‐bonded C3v equilibrium geometry with all three carbonyl ligands bonded to the iron center and a closed‐shell singlet electronic ground state. Bonding analyses reveal that there are multiple bonding interactions between the bare group‐3 elements and the Fe(CO)3? fragment. Besides one covalent electron‐sharing metal–metal σ bond and two dative π bonds from Fe to the Group 3 metal, there is additional multicenter covalent bonding with the Group 3 atom bonded to Fe and the carbon atoms.  相似文献

The lanthanide octacarbonyl anion complexes Ln(CO)8 (Ln=Tm, Yb, Lu) were produced in the gas phase and detected by mass-selected infrared photodissociation spectroscopy in the carbonyl stretching-frequency region. By comparison of the experimental CO-stretching frequencies with calculated data, which are strongly red-shifted with respect to free CO, the Yb(CO)8 and Lu(CO)8 complexes were determined to possess octahedral (Oh) symmetry and a doublet X2A2u (Yb) and singlet X1A1g (Lu) electronic ground state, whereas Tm(CO)8 exhibits a D4h equilibrium geometry and a triplet X3B1g ground state. The analysis of the electronic structures revealed that the metal-CO attractive forces come mainly from covalent orbital interactions, which are dominated by [Ln(d)]→(CO)8 π backdonation and [Ln(d)]←(CO)8 σ donation (contributes ≈77 and 16 % to covalent bonding, respectively). The metal f orbitals play a very minor role in the bonding. The electronic structure of all three lanthanide complexes obeys the 32-electron rule if only those electrons that occupy the valence orbitals of the metal are considered.  相似文献

Density functional calculations at the BP86/TZ2P level were carried out to understand the ligand properties of the 16‐valence‐electron(VE) Group 14 complexes [(PMe3)2Cl2M(E)] ( 1ME ) and the 18‐VE Group 14 complexes [(PMe3)2(CO)2M(E)] ( 2ME ; M=Fe, Ru, Os; E=C, Si, Ge, Sn) in complexation with W(CO)5. Calculations were also carried out for the complexes (CO)5W–EO. The complexes [(PMe3)2Cl2M(E)] and [(PMe3)2(CO)2M(E)] bind strongly to W(CO)5 yielding the adducts 1ME–W(CO)5 and 2ME–W(CO)5 , which have C2v equilibrium geometries. The bond strengths of the heavier Group 14 ligands 1ME (E=Si–Sn) are uniformly larger, by about 6–7 kcal mol?1, than those of the respective EO ligand in (CO)5W‐EO, while the carbon complexes 1MC–W(CO)5 have comparable bond dissociation energies (BDE) to CO. The heavier 18‐VE ligands 2ME (E=Si–Sn) are about 23–25 kcal mol?1 more strongly bonded than the associated EO ligand, while the BDE of 2MC is about 17–21 kcal mol?1 larger than that of CO. Analysis of the bonding with an energy‐decomposition scheme reveals that 1ME is isolobal with EO and that the nature of the bonding in 1ME–W(CO)5 is very similar to that in (CO)5W–EO. The ligands 1ME are slightly weaker π acceptors than EO while the π‐acceptor strength of 2ME is even lower.  相似文献

The reaction of stibinidene and bismuthinidene ArM [where Ar=C6H3‐2,6‐(CH=NtBu)2; M=Sb ( 1 ), Bi ( 2 )] with transition metal (TM) carbonyls Co2(CO)8 and Mn2(CO)10 produced unprecedented ionic complexes [(ArM)2Co(CO)3]+[Co(CO)4]? and [(ArM)2Mn(CO)4]+[Mn(CO)5]? [where M=Sb ( 3 , 5 ), Bi ( 4 , 6 )]. The pnictinidenes 1 and 2 behaved as two‐electron donors in this set of compounds. Besides the M→TM bonds, the topological analysis also revealed a number of secondary interactions contributing to the stabilization of cationic parts of titled complexes.  相似文献

The reactions between K5Bi4, [(C6H6)Cr(CO)3] or [(C7H8)Mo(CO)3], and [2.2.2]crypt in liquid ammonia yielded the compounds [K([2.2.2]crypt)]33‐Bi3)M(CO)3 · 10NH3 (M = Cr, Mo), which crystallize isostructurally in P21/n. Both contain an 18 valence electron piano‐stool complex with a η3‐coordinated Bi3‐ring ligand. The Bi–Bi distances range from 2.9560(5) to 2.9867(3) Å and are slightly shorter than known Bi–Bi single bonds but longer than Bi–Bi double bonds. The newly found compounds complete the family of similar complexes with E3‐ring ligands (E = P‐Bi).  相似文献

Ba(CO)+ and Ba(CO)? have been produced and isolated in a low‐temperature neon matrix. The observed C?O stretching wavenumber for Ba(CO)+ of 1911.2 cm?1 is the most red‐shifted value measured for any metal carbonyl cations, indicating strong π backdonation of electron density from Ba+ to CO. Quantum chemical calculations indicate that Ba(CO)+ has a 2Π reference state, which correlates with the 2D(5d1) excited state of Ba+ that comprises significant Ba+(5dπ1)→CO(π* LUMO) backbonding, letting the Ba(CO)+ complex behave like a conventional transition‐metal carbonyl. A bonding analysis shows that the π backdonation in Ba(CO)+ is much stronger than the Ba+(5dσ/6s)←CO(HOMO) σ donation. The Ba+ cation in the 2D(5d1) excited state is a donor rather than an acceptor. Covalent bonding in the radical anion Ba(CO)? takes place mainly through Ba(5dπ)←CO?(π* SOMO) π donation and Ba(5dσ/6s)←CO?(HOMO) σ donation. The most important valence functions at barium in Ba(CO)+ cation and Ba(CO)? anion are the 5d orbitals.  相似文献

Homoleptic Group 4 metal carbonyl cation and neutral complexes were prepared in the gas phase and/or in solid neon matrix. Infrared spectroscopy studies reveal that both zirconium and hafnium form eight-coordinate carbonyl neutral and cation complexes. In contrast, titanium forms only the six-coordinate Ti(CO)6+ and seven-coordinate Ti(CO)7. Titanium octacarbonyl Ti(CO)8 is unstable as a result of steric repulsion between the CO ligands. The 20-electron Zr(CO)8 and Hf(CO)8 complexes represent the first experimentally observed homoleptic octacarbonyl neutral complexes of transition metals. The molecules still fulfill the 18-electron rule, because one doubly occupied valence orbital does not mix with any of the metal valence atomic orbitals. Zr(CO)8 and Hf(CO)8 are stable against the loss of one CO because the CO ligands encounter less steric repulsion than Zr(CO)7 and Hf(CO)7. The heptacarbonyl complexes have shorter metal−CO bonds than that of the octacarbonyl complexes due to stronger electrostatic and covalent bonding, but the significantly smaller repulsive Pauli term makes the octacarbonyl complexes stable.  相似文献

Four iron(II) carbonyl complexes, fac‐[Fe (CO)3X2(py)] (X = I?, 1 and Br?, 3 ), fac‐[{Fe (CO)3X2}2(bipy)] (X = I?, 2 and Br?, 4 ), were facilely synthesized by reacting cis‐[Fe (CO)4X2] (X = I?, Br?) with pyridine (py) and 4,4′‐dipyridine (bipy) ligands, respectively, in good yields (70%~85%). These complexes were fully characterized, and the structures of Complexes 2 and 3 were crystallographically analyzed. In dimethyl sulfoxide, they decomposed rapidly to release carbon monoxide (CO), and in methanol, they showed better stability which allowed kinetically analyzing their decomposing behaviors. The self‐decomposing in methanol fitted first‐order kinetics with a half‐time ranging from several minutes to 1 h. Our results suggested that the ligand with great conjugation (bipy) and strong electron‐donating capability (iodide) could stabilize the iron(II) carbonyl complexes. The decomposition of the iodo complexes ( 1 and 2 ) involved the production of iodine radicals. MTT (3‐(4,5‐dimethylthiazol‐2‐yl)‐2,5‐diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) assessments revealed that the efficacy against human bladder carcinoma cell line (RT112) is in the following trend: 1 > 2 > 3 > 4 . The relatively strong efficacy of Complexes 1 and 2 is mainly contributed to the in situ generated iodine radicals. The combination of the cytotoxicity of the in situ generated radicals with the anticancer activity of CO as reported in literatures may lead to developing novel anticancer drugs with enhanced efficacy.  相似文献

We report the preparation of UFe(CO)3 and OUFe(CO)3 complexes using a laser‐vaporization supersonic ion source in the gas phase. These compounds were mass‐selected and characterized by infrared photodissociation spectroscopy and state‐of‐the‐art quantum chemical studies. There are unprecedented triple bonds between U 6d/5f and Fe 3d orbitals, featuring one covalent σ bond and two Fe‐to‐U dative π bonds in both complexes. The uranium and iron elements are found to exist in unique formal U(I or III) and Fe(−II) oxidation states, respectively. These findings suggest that there may exist a whole family of stable df–d multiple‐bonded f‐element‐transition‐metal compounds that have not been fully recognized to date.  相似文献

The alkali metal‐nickel carbonyl anions ENi(CO)3? with E=Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs have been produced and characterized by mass‐selected infrared photodissociation spectroscopy in the gas phase. The molecules are the first examples of 18‐electron transition metal complexes with alkali atoms as covalently bonded ligands. The calculated equilibrium structures possess C3v geometry, where the alkali atom is located above a nearly planar Ni(CO)3? fragment. The analysis of the electronic structure reveals a peculiar bonding situation where the alkali atom is covalently bonded not only to Ni but also to the carbon atoms.  相似文献

A combined experimental and theoretical study on the main‐group tricarbonyls [B(CO)3] in solid noble‐gas matrices and [C(CO)3]+ in the gas phase is presented. The molecules are identified by comparing the experimental and theoretical IR spectra and the vibrational shifts of nuclear isotopes. Quantum chemical ab initio studies suggest that the two isoelectronic species possess a tilted η11‐CO)‐bonded carbonyl ligand, which serves as an unprecedented one‐electron donor ligand. Thus, the central atoms in both complexes still retain an 8‐electron configuration. A thorough analysis of the bonding situation gives quantitative information about the donor and acceptor properties of the different carbonyl ligands. The linearly bonded CO ligands are classical two‐electron donors that display classical σ‐donation and π‐back‐donation following the Dewar–Chatt–Duncanson model. The tilted CO ligand is a formal one‐electron donor that is bonded by σ‐donation and π‐back‐donation that involves the singly occupied orbital of the radical fragments [B(CO)2] and [C(CO)2]+.  相似文献

Despite its electron deficiency, boron is versatile in forming multiple bonds. Transition‐metal–boron double bonding is known, but boron–metal triple bonds have been elusive. Two bismuth boron cluster anions, BiB2O and Bi2B, containing triple and double B−Bi bonds are presented. The BiB2O and Bi2B clusters are produced by laser vaporization of a mixed B/Bi target and characterized by photoelectron spectroscopy and ab initio calculations. Well‐resolved photoelectron spectra are obtained and interpreted with the help of ab initio calculations, which show that both species are linear. Chemical bonding analyses reveal that Bi forms triple and double bonds with boron in BiB2O ([Bi≡B−B≡O]) and Bi2B ([Bi=B=Bi]), respectively. The Bi−B double and triple bond strengths are calculated to be 3.21 and 4.70 eV, respectively. This is the first experimental observation of Bi−B double and triple bonds, opening the door to design main‐group metal–boron complexes with multiple bonding.  相似文献

The equilibrium geometries and bond dissociation energies of 16‐valence‐electron(VE) complexes [(PMe3)2Cl2M(E)] and 18‐VE complexes [(PMe3)2(CO)2M(E)] with M=Fe, Ru, Os and E=C, Si, Ge, Sn were calculated by using density functional theory at the BP86/TZ2P level. The nature of the M? E bond was analyzed with the NBO charge decomposition analysis and the EDA energy‐decomposition analysis. The theoretical results predict that the heavier Group 14 complexes [(PMe3)2Cl2M(E)] and [(PMe3)2(CO)2M(E)] with E=Si, Ge, Sn have C2v equilibrium geometries in which the PMe3 ligands are in the axial positions. The complexes have strong M? E bonds which are slightly stronger in the 16‐VE species 1ME than in the 18‐VE complexes 2ME . The calculated bond dissociation energies show that the M? E bonds become weaker in both series in the order C>Si>Ge>Sn; the bond strength increases in the order Fe<Ru<Os for 1ME , whereas a U‐shaped trend Ru<Os<Fe is found for 2ME . The M? E bonding analysis suggests that the 16‐VE complexes 1ME have two electron‐sharing bonds with σ and π symmetry and one donor–acceptor π bond like the carbon complex. Thus, the bonding situation is intermediate between a typical Fischer complex and a Schrock complex. In contrast, the 18‐VE complexes 2ME have donor–acceptor bonds, as suggested by the Dewar–Chatt–Duncanson model, with one M←E σ donor bond and two M→E π‐acceptor bonds, which are not degenerate. The shape of the frontier orbitals reveals that the HOMO?2 σ MO and the LUMO and LUMO+1 π* MOs of 1ME are very similar to the frontier orbitals of CO.  相似文献

Species with 2‐center, 3‐electron (2c/3e?) σ bonds are of interest owing to their fascinating electronic structures and potential for interesting reactivity patterns. Report here is the synthesis and characterization of a pair of zerovalent (d9) trigonal pyramidal Rh and Ir complexes that feature 2c/3e? σ bonds to the Si atom of a tripodal tris(phosphine)silatrane ligand. X‐ray diffraction, continuous wave and pulse electron paramagnetic resonance, density‐functional theory calculations, and reactivity studies have been used to characterize these electronically distinctive compounds. The data available highlight a 2c/3e? bonding framework with a σ*‐SOMO of metal 4‐ or 5dz2 parentage that is partially stabilized by significant mixing with Si (3pz) and metal (5‐ or 6pz) orbitals. Metal‐ligand covalency thus buffers the expected destabilization of transition‐metal (TM)‐silyl σ*‐orbitals by d–p mixing, affording well‐characterized examples of TM–main group, and hence polar, 2c/3e? σ “half‐bonds”.  相似文献

The impetus for this work was the structure of a trinuclear complex with two carbonyl groups showing incipient triple bridging - Cp2Rh3(CO)4?. Its structure, barrier to rotation of one Rh(CO)2? piece vs. the rest of the molecule, and the nature of the bridging carbonyl interaction are analyzed. Isolobal analogies form an interesting connection between this complex and a bridged isomer of the recently synthesized carbene complexes, Cp2Rh2(CO)2CR2, one isomer of Cp2Rh3(CO)3, and hypothetical carbyne complexes Cp2Rh2(CO)2CH+,?. A general bonding model for Cp2Rh2(μ-CO)2X complexes is constructed. The model, rich in geometrical detail, allows minima for the bridging carbonyl groups bending toward and away from the bonded ligand X.  相似文献
