The first pyrrolidine and cyclopropane derivatives of the trimetallic nitride templated (TNT) endohedral metallofullerenes Ih‐Sc3N@C80 and Ih‐Y3N@C80 connected to an electron‐donor unit (i.e., tetrathiafulvalene, phthalocyanine or ferrocene) were successfully prepared by 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition reactions of azomethine ylides and Bingel–Hirsch‐type reactions. Electrochemical studies confirmed the formation of the [6,6] regioisomers for the Y3N@C80‐based dyads and the [5,6] regioisomers in the case of Sc3N@C80‐based dyads. Similar to other TNT endohedral metallofullerene systems previously synthesized, irreversible reductive behavior was observed for the [6,6]‐Y3N@C80‐based dyads, whereas the [5,6]‐Sc3N@C80‐based dyads exhibited reversible reductive electrochemistry. Density functional calculations were also carried out on these dyads confirming the importance of these structures as electron transfer model systems. Furthermore, photophysical investigations on a ferrocenyl–Sc3N@C80‐fulleropyrrolidine dyad demonstrated the existence of a photoinduced electron‐transfer process that yields a radical ion pair with a lifetime three times longer than that obtained for the analogous C60 dyad.  相似文献

The production, isolation, and spectroscopic characterization of a new Dy3N@C80 cluster fullerene that exhibits three isomers ( 1 – 3 ) is reported for the first time. In addition, the third isomer ( 3 ) forms a completely new C80 cage structure that has not been reported in any endohedral fullerenes so far. The isomeric structures of the Dy3N@C80 cluster fullerene were analyzed by studying HPLC retention behavior, laser desorption time‐of‐flight (LD‐TOF) mass spectrometry, and UV‐Vis‐NIR and FTIR spectroscopy. The three isomers of Dy3N@C80 were all large band‐gap (1.51, 1.33, and 1.31 eV for 1 – 3 , respectively) materials, and could be classified as very stable fullerenes. According to results of FTIR spectroscopy, the Dy3N@C80 (I) ( 1 ) was assigned to the fullerene cage C80:7 (Ih), whereas Dy3N@C80 (II) ( 2 ) had the cage structure of C80:6 (D5h). The most probable cage structure of Dy3N@C80 (III) ( 3 ) was proposed to be C80:1 (D5d). The significant differences between Dy3N@C80 and other reported M3N@C80 (M=Sc, Y, Gd, Tb, Ho, Er, Tm) cluster fullerenes are discussed in detail, and the strong influence of the metal on the nitride cluster fullerene formation is concluded.  相似文献

Two novel graphene‐fullerene hybrid structures, containing C60 and endohedral Sc3N@C80 bound to graphene, instead of the formerly used graphene oxide, were efficiently synthesized via a reductive activation/exfoliation approach starting from pristine graphite. The structures of these multifunctional hybrid systems were unambiguously characterized by statistical Raman spectroscopy, TG‐MS, TG‐GC‐MS, and LD‐TOF mass spectroscopy, confirming the covalent bonding of the respective C60/Sc3N@C80 moieties to the pristine graphene. Furthermore, assisted by temperature‐dependent Raman spectroscopy studies the corresponding defunctionalization processes were also investigated. Finally, the formation of a carbon allotrope hybrid material on the basis of C60/Sc3N@C80 moieties coupled to graphene could be visualized by HRTEM.  相似文献

Geometrical structures of the investigated endohedral metallofullerenes Sc3N@C2n (2n = 68, 70, 78, and 80) were optimized at the B3LYP/6‐31G* level. The analyses of electronic structures display that the contribution of fullerene cage to the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital decreases as the cage size increases. Based on the optimized structures, the time‐dependent density functional theory combined with the sum‐over‐states method was used to investigate their nonlinear optical properties. Calculated third‐order polarizabilities γ and two‐photon absorption (TPA) cross‐section δ do not present the monotone variation with the size of fullerene cage, with largest γ of 0.48 × 10?34 esu for Sc3N@C78 in static state, and largest δ of 12.374 GM for Sc3N@C70 in the wavelength of 902.5 nm. However, the obtained TPA resonant peaks shift red with the size of fullerene cage. By analyzing the electronic origin of the third‐order optical properties, it is found that the charge transfers from the fullerene cage to the encapsulated Sc3N cluster make important contributions to the studied properties. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Based on the calculated findings that the sizes of encaged clusters determine the structures and the stability of C80-based trimetallic nitride fullerenes (TNFs), more extensive density functional theory calculations were performed on M3N@C68, M3N@C78 and M3N@C80 (M=Sc, Y and La). The calculated results demonstrated that the structures and stability undergo a transition with the increasing of the sizes of the cages and clusters. Sc3N is planar inside the three considered cages, Y3N is slightly pyramidal inside C68-6140 and C78-5 and planar inside Ih C80-7, however, La3N is pyramidal inside all the three cages. Those cages with pyramidal clusters inside deformed considerably, compared with their parent cages. In these cases, the bonding of metallic atoms toward the cages does not play an important role, and the encaged cluster tends to be located inside the cages with the largest M-M and M-C distances so that the strain energy can be released mostly. These calculations revealed the size effect of fullerene cages and encaged clusters, and can explain the position priority of M3N inside fullerene cages and the differences in yield of M3N@C2n . Geometrical structures of three investigated molecules Sc3N@C80, Sc3N@C80‐Fc, and C60‐Fc were optimized by density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6‐31G* level. Then the time‐dependent DFT was employed to investigate the excited states of these molecules. After exohedral functionalization by ferrocene (Fc‐) group as the electron donor or replacing C60 with Sc3N@C80 as the electron acceptor, the wavelengths of the first one‐photon absorption peak and the strongest two‐photon absorption (2PA) and three‐photon absorption (3PA) peaks shift red. The corresponding cross sections of Sc3N@C80‐Fc in the 2PA and 3PA processes increase as compared with those of Sc3N@C80, which originate from the contributions of charge transfers from Fc‐ group to C80 cage and simultaneously the transfers from the C80 cage to the encapsulated Sc3N cluster. When compared with C60‐Fc, the 2PA and 3PA cross sections of Sc3N@C80‐Fc decrease, which may result from the more negative charge surface of C80 cage in Sc3N@C80‐Fc molecule which blocks the charge transfers from Fc‐ moiety to the C80 cage in the excitation processes by compared with C60‐Fc. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report on the discovery and detailed exploration of the unconventional photo-switching mechanism in metallofullerenes, in which the energy of the photon absorbed by the carbon cage π-system is transformed to mechanical motion of the endohedral cluster accompanied by accumulation of spin density on the metal atoms. Comprehensive photophysical and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) studies augmented by theoretical modelling are performed to address the phenomenon of the light-induced photo-switching and triplet state spin dynamics in a series of YxSc3−xN@C80 (x = 0–3) nitride clusterfullerenes. Variable temperature and time-resolved photoluminescence studies revealed a strong dependence of their photophysical properties on the number of Sc atoms in the cluster. All molecules in the series exhibit temperature-dependent luminescence assigned to the near-infrared thermally-activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) and phosphorescence. The emission wavelengths and Stokes shift increase systematically with the number of Sc atoms in the endohedral cluster, whereas the triplet state lifetime and S1–T1 gap decrease in this row. For Sc3N@C80, we also applied photoelectron spectroscopy to obtain the triplet state energy as well as the electron affinity. Spin distribution and dynamics in the triplet states are then studied by light-induced pulsed EPR and ENDOR spectroscopies. The spin–lattice relaxation times and triplet state lifetimes are determined from the temporal evolution of the electron spin echo after the laser pulse. Well resolved ENDOR spectra of triplets with a rich structure caused by the hyperfine and quadrupolar interactions with 14N, 45Sc, and 89Y nuclear spins are obtained. The systematic increase of the metal contribution to the triplet spin density from Y3N to Sc3N found in the ENDOR study points to a substantial fullerene-to-metal charge transfer in the excited state. These experimental results are rationalized with the help of ground-state and time-dependent DFT calculations, which revealed a substantial variation of the endohedral cluster position in the photoexcited states driven by the predisposition of Sc atoms to maximize their spin population.

Photoexcitation mechanism of YxSc3−xN@C80 metallofullerenes is studied by variable-temperature photoluminescence, advanced EPR techniques, and DFT calculations, revealing photoinduced rotation of the endohedral cluster.  相似文献

We present a first-principles study on the geometric, vibrational and electronic properties of a novel Y-based non-scandium mixed-metal nitride clusterfullerene (TiY2N@C80). Theoretical results indicate that the fundamental electronic properties of TiY2N@C80 are similar to that of TiSc2N@C80, but dramatically different from that of Sc3N@C80 and Y3N@C80 molecules. We find that the magnetism of TiY2N@C80 is quenched by carrier doping. The rotation energy barrier of the TiY2N cluster in C80 cage was obviously increased by exohedral chemical modification with pyrrolidine monoadduct.  相似文献

Hydrophobically capped nanocrystals of formamidinium lead bromide (FAPbBr3) perovskite (PNC) show bright and stable fluorescence in solution and thin‐film states. When compared with isolated PNCs in a solution, close‐packed PNCs in a thin film show extended fluorescence lifetime (ca. 4.2 μs), which is due to hopping or migration of photogenerated excitons among PNCs. Both fluorescence quantum efficiency and lifetime decrease in a PNC thin film doped with fullerene (C60), which is attributed to channeling of exciton migration into electron transfer to C60. On the other hand, quenching of fluorescence intensity of a PNC solution is not accompanied by any change in fluorescence lifetime, indicating static electron transfer to C60 adsorbed onto the hydrophobic surface of individual PNCs. Exciton migration among close‐packed PNCs and electron transfer to C60 places C60‐doped PNC thin films among cost‐effective antenna systems for solar cells.  相似文献

The synthesis and single‐crystal X‐ray structural characterization of the first endohedral metallofullerene to contain a heptagon in the carbon cage are reported. The carbon framework surrounding the planar LaSc2N unit in LaSc2N@Cs(hept)‐C80 consists of one heptagon, 13 pentagons, and 28 hexagons. This cage is related to the most abundant Ih‐C80 isomer by one Stone–Wales‐like, heptagon/pentagon to hexagon/hexagon realignment. DFT computations predict that LaSc2N@Cs(hept)‐C80 is more stable than LaSc2N@D5hC80, and suggests that the low yield of the heptagon‐containing endohedral fullerene may be caused by kinetic factors.  相似文献

Extraction with 2‐aminoethanol is an inexpensive method for removing empty cage fullerenes from the soluble extract from electric‐arc‐generated fullerene soot that contains endohedral metallofullerenes of the type Sc3N@C2n (n=34, 39, 40). Our method of separation exploits the fact that C60, C70, and other larger, empty cage fullerenes are more susceptible to nucleophilic attack than endohedral fullerenes and that these adducts can be readily extracted into 2‐aminoethanol. This methodology has also been employed to examine the reactivity of the mixture of soluble endohedral fullerenes that result from doping graphite rods used in the Krätschmer–Huffman electric‐arc generator with the oxides of Y, Lu, Dy, Tb, and Gd. For example, with Y2O3, we were able to detect by mass spectrometry several new families of endohedral fullerenes, namely Y3C108 to Y3C126, Y3C107 to Y3C125, Y4C128 to Y4C146, that resisted reactivity with 2‐aminoethanol more than the empty cage fullerenes and the mono‐ and dimetallo fullerenes. The discovery of the family Y3C107 to Y3C125 with odd numbers of carbon atoms is remarkable, since fullerene cages must involve even numbers of carbon atoms. The newly discovered families of endohedral fullerenes with the composition M4C2n (M=Y, Lu, Dy, Tb, and Gd) are unusually resistant to reaction with 2‐aminoethanol. Additionally, the individual endohedrals, Y3C112 and M3C102 (M=Lu, Dy, Tb and Gd), were remarkably less reactive toward 2‐aminoethanol.  相似文献

The low‐temperature magnetic properties of the endohedral metallofullerene HoSc2N@C80 have been studied by superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometry. Alternating current (ac) susceptibility measurements reveal that this molecule exhibits slow relaxation of magnetization in a small applied field with timescales in the order of milliseconds. The equilibrium magnetic properties of HoSc2N@C80 indicate strong magnetic anisotropy. The large differences in magnetization relaxation times between the present compound and the previously investigated DySc2N@C80 are discussed.  相似文献

Using a reductive sidewall functionalization concept, we prepared for the first time a covalent inter‐carbon‐allotrope hybrid consisting of single‐walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and the endohedral fullerene Sc3N@C80. The new compound type was characterized through a variety of techniques including absorption spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, TG‐MS, TG‐GC‐MS, and MALDI‐TOF MS. HRTEM investigations were carried out to visualize this highly integrated architecture.  相似文献

As various fullerene derivatives have been developed, it is necessary to explore their photophysical properties for potential use in photoelectronics and medicine. Here, we address the photophysical properties of newly synthesized water‐soluble fullerene‐based nanoparticles and polyhydroxylated fullerene as a representative water‐soluble fullerene derivative. They show broad emission band arising from a wide‐range of excitation energies. It is attributed to the optical transitions from disorder‐induced states, which decay in the nanosecond time range. We determine the kinetic properties of the singlet oxygen (1O2) luminescence generated by the fullerene nanoparticles and polyhydroxylated fullerene to consider the potential as photodynamic agents. Triplet state decay of the nanoparticles was longer than 1O2 lifetime in water. Singlet oxygen quantum yield of a series of the fullerene nanoparticles is comparably higher ranging from 0.15 to 0.2 than that of polyhydroxylated fullerene, which is about 0.06.  相似文献

The geometric parameters and energy characteristics of small endofullerenes N@Cn (n = 20, 24, 30, 32, 40, 50) and N@C60 in the quartet ground state were calculated by the B3LYP/6-31G* method. The N atom is located at the center of the carbon cage in all molecules except N@C30, where it is bound to the cage wall. Encapsulation of nitrogen atom has little effect on the fullerene cage geometry for n = 40, 50, and 60. No significant charge transfer from the N endo-atom to the cage was revealed for all the N@Cn endofullerenes studied. The calculated spin density on the nitrogen endo-atom increases as the size (n) of the carbon cage increases. The relative stabilities of Cn fullerenes and corresponding endofullerenes N@Cn are discussed. Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk. The fluoranthene fluorescence properties were investigated in a variety of environments, i.e. in different solvents and temperatures, in the solid state, and in the vapor phase. The emission maximum was found to be independent of environment. The absorption spectrum in different solvents exhibits only minor changes. In solution, the fluorescence lifetime shows a slight inverse relationship to the solvent dielectric constant. With water/methanol mixtures of varying composition as the solvent, the lifetime decreases linearly with increasing mole fraction of water. At 77K, the fluoranthene fluorescence lifetime in frozen polar and nonpolar solvents are the same within experimental error. In hexane the fluorescence lifetime is independent of temperature (77±3 and 82±7 ns, at room temperature and 77 K, respectively). In methanol the lifetime is 64±3 ns at room temperature and increases linearly to 80±4 ns at 77 K. In the vapor phase the lifetime is 32±1 ns. No fluorescence quantum yield change was observed for either S1 or S2 manifold excitation.  相似文献

Embedding endohdedral metallofullerenes (EMFs) into electron donor–acceptor systems is still a challenging task owing to their limited quantities and their still largely unexplored chemical properties. In this study, we have performed a 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition reaction of a corrole‐based precursor with Sc3N@C80 to regioselectively form a [5,6]‐adduct ( 1 ). The successful attachment of the corrole moiety was confirmed by mass spectrometry. In the electronic ground state, absorption spectra suggest sizeable electronic communications between the electron acceptor and the electron donor. Moreover, the addition pattern occurring at a [5,6]‐bond junction is firmly proven by NMR spectroscopy and electrochemical investigations performed with 1 . In the electronically excited state, which is probed in photophysical assays with 1 , a fast electron‐transfer yields the radical ion pair state consisting of the one‐electron‐reduced Sc3N@C80 and of the one‐electron‐oxidized corrole upon its exclusive photoexcitation. As such, our results shed new light on the practical work utilizing EMFs as building blocks in photovoltaics.  相似文献

The synthesis, isolation and spectroscopic characterization of holmium‐based mixed metal nitride clusterfullerenes HoxSc3?xN@C80 (x=1, 2) are reported. Two isomers of HoxSc3?xN@C80 (x=1, 2) were synthesized by the reactive gas atmosphere method and isolated by multistep recycling HPLC. The isomeric structures of HoxSc3?xN@C80 (x=1, 2) were characterized by laser‐desorption time‐of‐flight (LD‐TOF) mass spectrometry and UV/Vis/NIR, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. A comparative study of MxSc3?xN@C80 (M=Gd, Dy, Lu, Ho) demonstrates the dependence of their electronic and vibrational properties on the encaged metal. Despite the distinct perturbation induced by 4f10 electrons, we report the first paramagnetic 13C NMR study on HoxSc3?xN@C80 (I; x=1, 2) and confirm Ih‐symmetric cage structure. A 45Sc NMR study on HoSc2N@C80 (I, II) revealed a temperature‐dependent chemical shift in the temperature range of 268–308 K.  相似文献

Despite recent successes in preparing three‐dimensional crystals of empty fullerenes, such as C60 and C70, 3D endohedral fullerene crystals, and especially hollow nanostructures, have been scarcely reported. A universal approach has now been developed to prepare shape‐tunable 3D crystals of several metal nitride clusterfullerenes, including cubes and dice (hollow cubes with holes at the center of each face), which can be readily switched by changing the volume ratio of good (mesitylene) and poor (isopropanol) solvents. Synchrotron‐based soft X‐ray nano‐computed tomography was used to unambiguously identify the interior microstructure of the dice‐shaped crystals of Tb3N@C80, and especially the depth of the hole at each face, confirming that the dice has a solid center and the holes are not interconnected. Owing to the enhanced light absorption, the dice‐shaped crystals exhibit enhanced photoluminescence relative to that of the cubes.  相似文献

A new dual luminescent sensitive paint for barometric pressure and temperature (T) is presented. The green‐emitting iridium(III) complex [Ir(ppy)2(carbac)] (ppy=2‐phenylpyridine; carbac=1‐(9H‐carbazol‐9‐yl)‐5,5‐dimethylhexane‐2,4‐dione) was applied as a novel probe for T along with the red‐emitting complex [Ir(btpy)3], (btpy=2‐(benzo[b]thiophene‐2‐yl)pyridine) which functions as a barometric (in fact oxygen‐sensitive) probe. Both iridium complexes were dissolved in different polymer materials to achieve optimal responses. The probe [Ir(ppy)2(carbac)] was dispersed in gas‐blocking poly(acrylonitrile) microparticles in order to suppress any quenching of its luminescence by oxygen. The barometric probe [Ir(btpy)3], in turn, was incorporated in a cellulose acetate butyrate film which exhibits good permeability for oxygen. The effects of temperature on the response of the oxygen probe can be corrected by simultaneous optical determination of T, as the poly(acrylonitrile) microparticles containing the temperature indicator are incorporated into the film. The phosphorescent signals of the probes for T and barometric pressure, respectively, can be separated by optical filters due to the ≈75 nm difference in their emission maxima. The dual sensor is applicable to luminescence lifetime imaging of T and barometric pressure. It is the first luminescent dual sensor material for barometric pressure/T based exclusively on the use of IrIII complexes in combination with luminescence lifetime imaging.  相似文献
