We study the production of vector bosons in hadron-hadron collisions via the Drell-Yan mechanism in QCD. Our treatment of the transverse momentum and rapidity distributions of the produced bosons takes all available theoretical principles and results into account in a systematic way. The resulting qT distribution reduces to the perturbative limit for large qT, includes the summation of soft gluons and reproduces the known results for the total cross section. A full numerical analysis of W and Z cross sections at collider and tevatron energies is made.  相似文献

在详细比较同位旋相关的核子-核子碰撞截面的几种常用形式的基础上,利用IBUU模型, 分别对具有相同质量的60Ca+60Ca和60Ni+60Ni的中能重离子碰撞进行了模拟计算,定量地分析了碰撞过程中不同形式的同位旋相关的核子-核子碰撞截面对于核子的快度分布和集体流的影响.结果显示: 不同形式的核子碰撞截面,可以给出相差较大的核子的快度分布和横向流, 但在同一种截面形式下,对称势的变化对横向流的影响较小.这表明在新的动量相关的对称势下, 中能重离子碰撞中集体流对于截面的敏感性依然成立;同时表明,在相同的碰撞截面和对称势形式下, 当入射能量在平衡能附近时,入射粒子的中质比对核子在平面流的影响较大,反之,影响较小.  相似文献

By means of two typical kinds of quark energy loss parametrization and the nuclear parton distribu-tions determined only with lepton-nuclear deep inelastic scattering experimental data, a leading order analysis is performed on the proton-induced Drell-Yau differential cross section ratios of tungsten versus deuterium as a function of the quark momentum fraction in the beam proton and target nuclei. It is found that the theoretical results with quark energy loss are in good agreement with the experimental data. The quark energy loss effect produces approximately 3% to 11% suppression on the Drell-Yan differential cross section ratios RW/D in the range 0.05 ≤ x2≤ 0.3. The application of nuclear Drell-Yan data with heavy targets is remarkably subject to difficulty in the constraint of the nuclear sea quark distribution.  相似文献

The azimuthal asymmetry of a minijet system produced at the early stage of nucleon–nucleon and nuclear collisions in a central rapidity window is studied. We show that in pp collisions the minijet transverse energy production in a central rapidity window is essentially unbalanced in the azimuth due to asymmetric contributions in which only one minijet hits the acceptance window. We further study the angular pattern of the transverse energy flow generated by the semihard degrees of freedom at the early stage of high energy nuclear collisions and its dependence on the number of semihard collisions in the models both including and neglecting soft contributions to the inelastic cross section at RHIC and LHC energies as well as on the choice of the infrared cutoff. Interactions of 150 GeV pions and 300 GeV pions and protons on hydrogen which result in final states with large transverse energy in the central rapidity region ?0.88 < y < 0.67 were studied with a calorimeter trigger. The dependence of the cross section on the azimuthal acceptance of the trigger, on the beam energy and on the incident particle type and the jet properties of the events were investigated. No dominant two-jet structure was found. Nevertheless, the parton spectrum in the colliding hadrons appears to be relevant for large transverse energy reactions.  相似文献

The contribution of QCD jets to the rise with energy of the inelastic cross section is discussed quantitatively and found to be large. It is seen that the inclusive jet yield is the fastest growing component of the total cross section. The dependence of this yield upon the rapidity cuts, the choice of parton densities, the QCD scale Q2 and the transverse momentum cutoff pcut are examined. At higher energies, multiple parton scattering processes are seen to be non-negligible. Extrapolations of the low-pt jet yield to the Tevatron are presented also.  相似文献

J/psi production in d + Au and p + p collisions at square root of S(NN) = 200 GeV has been measured by the PHENIX experiment at rapidities -2.2 < y < +2.4. The cross sections and nuclear dependence of J/psi production versus rapidity, transverse momentum, and centrality are obtained and compared to lower energy p + A results and to theoretical models. The observed nuclear dependence in d + Au collisions is found to be modest, suggesting that the absorption in the final state is weak and the shadowing of the gluon distributions is small and consistent with Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi-based parametrizations that fit deep-inelastic scattering and Drell-Yan data at lower energies.  相似文献

The production of Drell-Yan pairs at large transverse momentum is calculated up to O(αs2) for a non-singlet combination defined as the cross section for an incident particle minus the analogous cross section for an incident antiparticle. The inclusive jet cross section is measured in pp collisions with a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider using the CMS experiment. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 34 pb(-1). The measurement is made for jet transverse momenta in the range 18-1100 GeV and for absolute values of rapidity less than 3. The measured cross section extends to the highest values of jet p(T) ever observed and, within the experimental and theoretical uncertainties, is generally in agreement with next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD predictions.  相似文献

We report on a measurement of the inclusive jet cross section in pp[over ] collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt[s]=1.96 TeV using data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.70 fb;{-1}. The data cover jet transverse momenta from 50 to 600 GeV and jet rapidities in the range -2.4 to 2.4. Detailed studies of correlations between systematic uncertainties in transverse momentum and rapidity are presented, and the cross section measurements are found to be in good agreement with next-to-leading order QCD calculations.  相似文献

At high energies, Drell-Yan process can be viewed in the target rest frame as bremsstrahlung of massive photons, rather than parton annihilation. In this paper, the ratio of the p-A Drell-Yan cross section per nucleon for an 800 GeV proton beam incident on Fe, W, and Be targets are calculated by means of the color dipole approach in the target rest system. It is shown that our calculations can quite well fit the Fermilab E866 experimental data with considering the nuclear shadowing effect in p-A Drell-Yan process and without the energy loss effect in it.  相似文献

We consider the single-inclusive minijet cross section in pA at forward rapidity within the color glass condensate model of high energy collisions. We show that the nucleus appears black to the incident quarks except for very large impact parameters. A markedly flatter p(t) distribution as compared to QCD in the dilute perturbative limit is predicted for transverse momenta about the saturation scale, which could be as large as Q(2)(s) approximately 10 GeV2 for a gold nucleus boosted to rapidity approximately 10 (as at the BNL-RHIC).  相似文献

The energy loss effect in nuclear matter, which is a nuclear effect apart from the nuclear effect on the parton distribution as in deep-inelastic scattering process, can be measured best by the nuclear dependence of the high energy nuclear Drell-Yan process. By means of the nuclear parton distribution studied only with lepton deep-inelastic scattering experimental data, the measured Drell-Yan production cross sections for 800 GeV proton incident on a variety of nuclear targets are analyzed within the Glauber framework which takes into account the energy loss of the beam proton. The energy dependence of the total hadronic cross sections is caused by gluon bremsstrahlung which we treat nonperturbatively. It is located at small transverse distances about 0.3 fm from the valence quarks. The cross section of gluon radiation is predicted to exponentiate and rise with energy as s(delta) with delta = 0.17+/-0. 01. The total cross section also includes a large energy independent Born term which corresponds to no gluon radiation. The calculated total cross section and the slope of elastic scattering are in good agreement with the data.  相似文献

J/psi production has been measured in proton-proton collisions at square root of s=200 GeV over a wide rapidity and transverse momentum range by the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Distributions of the rapidity and transverse momentum, along with measurements of the mean transverse momentum and total production cross section are presented and compared to available theoretical calculations. The total J/psi cross section is 4.0+/-0.6(stat)+/-0.6(syst)+/-0.4(abs) mu b. The mean transverse momentum is 1.80+/-0.23(stat)+/-0.16(syst) GeV/c.  相似文献

Bottom-quark production in &pmacr;p collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.8 TeV is studied with 5 pb(-1) of data collected in 1995 by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The differential production cross section for b jets in the central rapidity region ( | y(b)|<1) as a function of jet transverse energy is extracted from a muon-tagged jet sample. Within experimental and theoretical uncertainties, D0 results are found to be higher than, but compatible with, next-to-leading-order QCD predictions.  相似文献

核环境中夸克的能量损失可以通过高能核Drell-Yan过程的核依赖进行测量. 利用文献中给出的夸克能量损失公式和从轻子-原子核深度非弹性散射实验数 据得到的束缚核子中的部分子分布函数, 计算了FNAL E772 800GeV的质子打击不同原子核的Drell-Yan过程截面比, 发现考虑能量损失的计算结果与FNAL E772实验数据符合甚好. 建议在利用核Drell-Yan过程实验数据抽取束缚核子内部分子分布函数时应该考虑能量损失效应.  相似文献

The lowest order radiative correction to the differential cross section of process of muon pair production with the emission of a hard photon at high energy electron-positron annihilation are calculated. Taking into account the emission of additional soft and hard photon, the cross section can be put in the form of the Drell-Yan process in leading logarithmical approximation. Applying the crossing transformation, we obtain the cross section of the radiative electron-muon high-energy scattering process. Virtual and soft photon emission contributions of the nonleading form are tabulated for several typical kinematical points. The limit of the small invariant mass of a muon pair is in agreement with our previous analysis.  相似文献

The inclusive cross section for the photoproduction of neutral pions has been measured as a function of the transverse momentum, rapidity, and Feynman x of the mesons at an average photon–proton centre-of-mass energy of 208 GeV and for photon virtualities below GeV. The measurement extends the range covered by previous charged particle measurements at HERA by two units of rapidity in the photon direction down to a value of in the centre-of-mass frame. The transverse momentum distribution is well described over the whole measured range by a power law ansatz, while an exponential fit falls below the data at transverse momentum values above 1.5 GeV/c. Good agreement with the predictions of the Monte Carlo models PYTHIA and PHOJET is found. In the context of the PYTHIA model the data are inconsistent with large intrinsic transverse momentum values in the photon. Received: 14 June 2000 / Published online: 27 November 2000  相似文献
