On the Index of Differential Operators on Manifolds with Conical Singularities

The paper contains the proof of the index formula for manifolds with conical points. For operators subject to an additional condition of spectral symmetry, the index is expressed as the sum of multiplicities of spectral points of the conormal symbol (indicial family) and the integral from the Atiyah–Singer form over the smooth part of the manifold. The obtained formula is illustrated by the example of the Euler operator on a two-dimensional manifold with conical singular point.     

Integrability of Analytic Almost Complex Structures on Banach Manifolds

We prove that the classical integrability condition for almost complex structures on finite-dimensional smooth manifolds also works in infinite dimensions in the case of almost complex structures that are real analytic on real analytic Banach manifolds. With this result at hand, we extend some known results concerning existence of invariant complex structures on homogeneous spaces of Banach–Lie groups. By way of illustration, we construct the complex flag manifolds associated with unital C^*-algebras.Mathematics Subject Classifications (2000): primary 32Q60; secondary 53C15, 58B12.     

On Topological Index of Solutions for Variational Inequalities on Riemannian Manifolds

In this paper, based on the fixed point index theory for a class of -multivalued maps on absolute neighbourhood retracts, we introduce the notion of index of solvability for a variational inequality on a Riemannian manifold involving a multivalued vector field. We describe the main properties of this topological characteristic and use it to justify the existence of a solution for a variational inequality problem. As application, the problem of optimization of a non-smooth functional on a Hadamard manifold is considered.     

On the Index of Solvability for Variational Inequalities in Banach Spaces

We define the index of solvability, a topological characteristic, whose difference from zero provides the existence of a solution for variational inequalities of Stampacchia’s type with S ⁺-type and pseudo-monotone multimaps on reflexive separable Banach spaces. Some applications to a minimization problem and to a problem of economical dynamics are presented. The work is supported by the Russian FBR Grants 05-01-00100 and 07-01-00137 and by the NATO Grant ICS.NR.CLG 981757.     

Asymptotic Formulae for Brillouin Index on Riemannian Manifolds

We establish several asymptotic formulae for Brillouin index on fiat tori. As an application of these formulae it is proved that the topological entropy of a geodesic flow on a fiat torus is zero.
