The optical properties of the interference wedge are analysed for the case of restricted laser beam illumination. By further development of Brossel's method, equations describing this case are derived and used to calculate the reflected and transmitted beam profiles for typical intracavity laser beam diameters (0.2–0.6 mm) for Gaussian and uniform intensity distributions. In particular, the experimentally observed formation of bright fringes outside the beam impact area at resonant wavelengths is explained. some useful dependencies concerning the wedge reflection and transmission for laser applications are obtained and experimentally demonstrated.  相似文献

We report experiments with subpicosecond UV laser filaments for the remote analysis of samples related to objects of cultural heritage. The classic laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) technique finds new avenues through femtosecond filamentation, and dynamic remote LIBS becomes possible. Advantages such as self-regulated laser intensity deposition on the target suggest that there is significant potential for using UV femtosecond filaments for the remote analysis of sculpture and large monuments.  相似文献

An improved 'chemical blowing' route presuming atmospheric-pressure pre-treatment and moderate heating rate of designated precursors was developed to synthesize ultra-thin boron nitride (BN) nanosheets with high yield and large lateral dimensions. The yield reached as high as 40 wt% with respect to raw materials (ammonia borane). The strong oxygen-related ultraviolet luminescence together with a blue emission of these BN nanosheets was then documented and analyzed. This implies potential applications in solid-state lighting, ultraviolet lasing and full-color luminescence. Mechanical strength of different polymeric composites with a small fraction of BN nanosheet fillers was dramatically increased by tens of per cent, while high transparency of composite materials was still maintained in the visible optical range. The increased yield and reduced cost of BN nanosheets should promote their wide practical applications in various composites.  相似文献

This contribution focuses on spectrometric analyses carried out on crust samples covering the stone surface of the boundary walls of the Tower of London. The main goal of this research is to investigate the degradation processes related to the environmental impact on cultural heritage. Specifically, the chemical contamination of stone substrate in the Tower of London due to the crust formation was examined through laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). This technique allowed us to achieve a complete characterization of the damage layers in terms of trace elements. In addition, optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM-EDS) and infrared spectroscopic techniques (FT-IR) were also used for an exhaustive characterization of the examined samples. Results obtained demonstrated that such a geochemical approach represents a powerful diagnostic tool in the study of black crusts, since it represents a reliable indicator of the environmental pollution. The higher concentrations of most heavy metals in black crusts with respect to the underlying stone suggest that crusts were greatly influenced by atmospheric inputs in their formation, mainly represented by mobile combustion sources. In addition, the possibility of analyzing in some samples the portion of altered substrate allowed us to hypothesize that some specific heavy metals tend to migrate from the crust to the unaltered substrate over time, becoming catalysts for the formation of new crust. Therefore, this research focuses on the role of diagnostics in order to plan suitable cleaning and consolidation intervention aimed at a better protection of the monument.  相似文献

We modified the intensity distribution formula in multiple-beam reflected system produced at infinite number of beams collected to be a function of finite number of beams collected. From the modified equation, a numerical process was performed to find a finite number of beams value that gives the same intensity at infinity. We claim that 30 beams are enough to produce the intensity distribution same as if infinity number of beams are collected. Our deductions were verified by numerically evaluating the intensity distribution of a multiple-beam Fizeau–Tolansky interferometer with a wedge angle = 0.0003164 rad using ray tracing at 30 number of beams collected and the results of simulation are consistent. The consistency signifies that using 30 instead of infinity number of beams collected in ray tracing for the intensity distribution evaluation may reduce the time drastically.  相似文献

The spectral structure of a three-dimensional X-wave pulse incident on a planar surface of discontinuity is examined. Introducing a novel superposition of azimuthally dependent pulsed plane waves, it is shown for oblique incidence that the reflected pulse has a localized wave structure. On the other hand, the transmitted field maintains its localization up to a certain distance from the interface, beyond which it starts disintegrating. An estimate of the localization range of the transmitted pulse is established; also, the parameters affecting the localization range are identified. The reflected and transmitted fields are deduced for X-waves incident from either a slower medium or a faster one. For the former case the evanescent fields in the second medium are calculated and their explicit time dependence is deduced for a normally incident X-wave. Furthermore, at near-critical incidence the transmitted pulse exhibits significant pulse compression and focusing.  相似文献

A novel full-field X-ray fluorescence spectrometer developed for cultural heritage applications is presented. Named “CartiX,” it was designed for routine deployment in the field (museum, archeological site) and uses a concept under development at NASA for planetary exploration. CartiX utilizes 2 miniature X-ray tubes, a square pore Micro-channel Plate X-ray Optic, and a direct-illumination CCD camera to collect spatially resolved X-ray fluorescence data from an area of 13 x 13 mm2. We report here the application of CartiX to the analysis of a Gustave Caillebotte painting directly in the exhibition room. The Impressionists are renowned for their painting technique and their approach in capturing the effects of light in nature through a new use of color. They adopted innovative artistic practices consisting of short brushstrokes of unmixed colors that barely convey forms and give an effect of spontaneity and effortlessness that masks their often carefully constructed compositions. Here, we use high spatial resolution chemical data measured with CartiX to reveal the artist's complex use of pigments and the formation of alteration products and to help in the interpretation of the artist's choice of materials and their manipulation with small and thin brushstrokes.  相似文献

Protection of surfaces directly exposed to the detrimental action of degradative agents (i.e. oxygen, air pollutants and bacteria) is one of the most important challenges in the field of conservation of works of art. Metallic objects are subjected to specific surface corrosion phenomena that, over the years, make mandatory the research of innovative materials that should avoid the direct contact between the metal surface and the weathering agents. In this paper, the set-up, characterisation and application of a new reversible material for preserving metal artefacts are reported. Micro-layers constituted of low-adhesive polystyrene (PS) films obtained from recycling waste packaging materials made of expanded PS were studied. The morphology and thickness of PS films were characterised by optical, atomic force and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A further check on thickness was carried out by means of visible spectrophotometry doping the films with a hydrophobic dye. Thermal properties of the PS micro-layers were studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry coupled with optical microscopy. Permeability of the PS films to water vapour was also determined. The potential of the low-adhesive PS films, that enabled an easy removal in case of film deterioration, for preventing metal oxidation was investigated on brass specimens by simulating standard artificial corrosion programmes. Morphological and chemical (coupling the energy-dispersive X-rays spectrometry to SEM measurements) analyses carried out on these metal samples showed promising results in terms of surface protection against corrosion.  相似文献

Three-dimensional chemical mapping using angle scan nanotomography in a soft X-ray scanning transmission X-ray microscope (STXM) has been used to investigate the spatial distributions of a low density polyacrylate polyelectrolyte ionomer inside submicron sized polystyrene microspheres. Acquisition of tomograms at multiple photon energies provides true, quantifiable 3-d chemical sensitivity. Both pre-O 1s and C 1s results are shown. The study reveals aspects of the 3-d distribution of the polyelectrolyte that were inferred indirectly or had not been known prior to this study. The potential and challenges for extension of the technique to studies of other polymeric and to biological systems is discussed.  相似文献

A method for modeling the radial distribution function for particles of a two-dimensional planar photonic crystal in the form of a monolayer of spatially ordered monodisperse spherical particles is proposed. The coherent transmission and reflection coefficients for layers under normal illumination are calculated in the quasi-crystalline approximation of the multiple wave scattering theory. The dependence of the coherent transmission and reflection of the layer on the degree of ordering of the spherical particles is investigated. The influence of the long-range order on the coherent transmission and reflection coefficients for layers with triangular, square, and hexagonal lattices is estimated. Monolayers of weakly absorbing dielectric and strongly absorbing metallic particles are considered.  相似文献

A methodical approach for qualitative and quantitative non-destructive testing of near-surface structures in civil engineering (CE) with active thermography is presented. It adopts the non-destructive testing (NDT) method of pulsed phase thermography (PPT) for the special requirements of CE and cultural heritage. The concept might be understood as a square pulse thermography (SPT) in frequency domain or an amplitude-expanded PPT with square pulse heating.After a discussion of the material spanning concept and qualitative results in cultural heritage a new approach for quantitative non-destructive testing (NDT) of near-surface structures in CE with active thermography is introduced and tested by investigations on concrete specimen with artificial defects. It is based on the thermal diffusivity of the material and the characteristic frequency of the first extrema of phase and amplitude contrast and aims at complementing the established approaches for defect depth calculation for measurements with long heating and observation times. It should be easily extendable to other fields of application.  相似文献

Bronchopulmonary sequestration (BPS) involves abnormal pulmonary tissue lacking trancheobronchial connection and having a separate vascular supply that arises from the thoracic or abdominal aorta. For the first time, BPS is studied by Raman and Fourier‐transform infrared (FTIR) imaging. Cryosections were mounted on calcium fluoride substrates from tissue samples of two BPS patients. Raman images were collected at a step size of 66–100 µm to assess the whole tissue section, and at a lower step size of 10 µm to resolve details in selected areas. FTIR images were collected at resolutions of 63 and 4 µm per pixel. Data sets were segmented by cluster analyses, and the spectra of each cluster were compared. The spectra revealed higher red blood cell content and lower collagen and lipid content in BPS than in an additional tissue section from the BPS margin. Comparison with previous Raman and FTIR images of congenital cystic adenomatoid malformations (CCAM) and normal lung tissue suggested that the marginal tissue sample of the BPS patient contains CCAM. We conclude that CCAM and BPS are biochemically distinct, which enable the differential diagnosis of lung malformations by specific vibrational spectroscopic fingerprints. Infrared (IR) imaging and Raman chemical imaging have advantages over conventional methods to investigate heterogeneous plant structures in providing quantitative and qualitative analyses with the spatial distribution of the components. Combined with multivariate statistical analysis, they have been proven to be powerful nondestructive analytical tools in applications in plant materials. This review aims to present a general perspective about IR imaging and Raman chemical imaging in plant materials. The first section will introduce a variety of characteristics with the underlying principles, respectively. And the second section will review selected application in the latest literature, such as discrimination of different plant samples, investigation of the microstructures of leaf, identification of the cell wall components, and study of the microstructure and quality of cereal grains. We show that a physical mechanism responsible for the enhanced transmission and reflection of ultrashort (few-cycle) pulses by a single subwavelength slit in a thick metallic film is the Fabry-Perot-like resonant excitation of stationary, quasistationary, and nonstationary waves inside the slit, which leads to the field enhancement inside and around the slit. The mechanism is universal for any pulse-scatter system, which supports the stationary resonances. We point out that there is a pulse duration limit below which the slit does not support the intraslit resonance.  相似文献

We study the behavior of pseudospin-1 Dirac fermions in a Lieb lattice subjected to an external periodic potential. It is found that there exists a zero-averaged wave-number passband at the incident energy corresponding to half of the potential step, in contrast to zero-averaged wave-number gap in graphene superlattices. By tuning the sublattice site-energy, the passband can be turned into an omnidirectional gap. Consequently, a transformation from omnidirectional transmission to reflection, accompanied with a switch of conductance from maximum to zero can be realized easily. It is expected that the controllable properties are useful for some applications in optical or electronic devices.  相似文献

The reciprocity theorem in Lyamshev’s formulation is used to derive a general symmetry relationship for the matrices of reflection coefficients in homogeneous media and one-dimensional waveguides. This relationship is shown to be equivalent to the normalization of the amplitudes by the cross power flux of the forward and backward waves. The relationship is valid for both propagating and evanescent waves, and all the symmetry relationships known from the literature represent its particular cases.  相似文献

The present work exemplifies, over a mural painting from the 14th century, the advantages of an initial exhaustive research using latest generation hand‐held spectrometers (Raman mainly) in order to perform the characterization of valuable objects of cultural heritage. These in‐situ techniques (meaning on‐site and non‐destructive) are very useful to study the pigments and materials, to identify the nature and causes of some of the main sources of deterioration and to examine past repaints. In addition, the in‐situ measurements are of great importance in the selection of micro‐samples for the laboratory analyses. In this particular case, the combination of these results with the chemical imaging analyses in the laboratory (such as Raman and energy dispersive X‐ray spectrometry imaging) allowed the characterization of the mural painting, including, the identification of all restoration works applied in the past.
