Knowing an equation has a unique solution is important from both a modelling and theoretical point of view. For over 70 years, the approach to learning and teaching ‘well posedness’ of initial value problems (IVPs) for second- and higher-order ordinary differential equations has involved transforming the problem and its analysis to a first-order system of equations. In this paper, we study an asymptotic behavior of a solution to the outflow problem for a two-phase model with magnetic field. Our idea mainly comes from [1] and [2] which investigate the asymptotic stability and convergence rates of stationary solutions to the outflow problem for an isentropic Navier–Stokes equation. For the two-phase model with magnetic field, we also obtain the asymptotic stability and convergence rates of global solutions towards corresponding stationary solutions if the initial perturbation belongs to the weighted Sobolev space. In this paper we study travelling wave solutions to a system of four non‐linear partial differential equations, which arise in a tissue interaction model for skin morphogenesis. The aim of this paper is two-fold. First, the so-called ‘optimal level solutions’ method is described in a new unifying framework with the aim to provide an algorithmic scheme able to approach various different classes of problems. Then, the ‘optimal level solutions’ method is used to solve a class of low-rank programmes involving linear and quadratic functions and having a polyhedral feasible region. In particular, the considered class of programmes covers, among all, rank-three d.c., multiplicative and fractional programmes.
