By a convenient reparametrization of the integral curves of a nonlinear ordinary differential equation (ODE), we are able to improve the conclusions of a recent generalization of Nagumo’s uniqueness theorem. In this way, we establish a flexible uniqueness criterion for ODEs without Lipschitz-like nonlinearities.  相似文献

We study the eigenvalues of matrix problems involving Jacobi and cyclic Jacobi matrices as functions of certain entries. Of particular interest are the limits of the eigenvalues as these entries approach infinity. Our approach is to use the recently discovered equivalence between these problems and a class of Sturm-Liouville problems and then to apply the Sturm-Liouville theory.  相似文献

Borg-type uniqueness theorems for matrix-valued Jacobi operators H and supersymmetric Dirac difference operators D are proved. More precisely, assuming reflectionless matrix coefficients A,B in the self-adjoint Jacobi operator H=AS++A-S-+B (with S± the right/left shift operators on the lattice Z) and the spectrum of H to be a compact interval [E-,E+], E-<E+, we prove that A and B are certain multiples of the identity matrix. An analogous result which, however, displays a certain novel nonuniqueness feature, is proved for supersymmetric self-adjoint Dirac difference operators D with spectrum given by , 0?E-<E+.Our approach is based on trace formulas and matrix-valued (exponential) Herglotz representation theorems. As a by-product of our techniques we obtain the extension of Flaschka's Borg-type result for periodic scalar Jacobi operators to the class of reflectionless matrix-valued Jacobi operators.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the existence of almost periodic solutions of a delay logistic model with fixed moments of impulsive perturbations. By using a comparison theorem and constructing a suitable Lyapunov functional, a set of sufficient conditions for the existence and global attractivity of a unique positive almost periodic solution is obtained. As applications, some special models are studied; our new results improve and generalize former results.  相似文献

Abstract

A new set of orthogonal polynomials is found that are solutions to a sixth order formally self adjoint differential equation. These polynomials are shown to generalize the Legendre and Legendre type polynomials. We also show that these polynomials satisfy many properties shared by the classical orthogonal polynomials of Jacobi, Laguerre and Hermite.  相似文献

This paper offers conditions ensuring the existence of solutions of linear boundary value problems for systems of dynamic equations on time scales. Utilizing a method of Moore–Penrose pseudo‐inverse matrices leads to an analytical form of a criterion for the existence of solutions in a relevant space and, moreover, to the construction of a family of linearly independent solutions of such problems in a general case with the number of boundary conditions (defined by a linear vector functional) not coinciding with the number of unknowns of a system of dynamic equations. As an example of an application of the presented results, the problem of bifurcation of solutions of boundary value problems for systems of dynamic equations on time scales with a small parameter is considered.  相似文献

We give a new proof of a special case of de Branges' theorem on the inverse monodromy problem: when an associated Riemann surface is of Widom type with Direct Cauchy Theorem. The proof is based on our previous result (with M.Sodin) on infinite dimensional Jacobi inversion and on Levin's uniqueness theorem for conformal maps onto comb-like domains. Although in this way we can not prove de Branges' Theorem in full generality, our proof is rather constructive and may lead to a multi-dimensional generalization. The most important result of this paper is a new oscillation criterion for delay difference equations. This criterion constitutes a substantial improvement of the one by Ladas et al. [J. Appl. Math. We explore the sparsity of Weyl–Titchmarsh m-functions of discrete Schrödinger operators. Due to this, the set of their m-functions cannot be dense on the set of those for Jacobi operators. All this reveals why an inverse spectral theory for discrete Schrödinger operators via their spectral measures should be difficult. To obtain the result, de Branges theory of canonical systems is applied to work on them, instead of Weyl–Titchmarsh m-functions.  相似文献

In this paper, we study periodic linear systems on periodic time scales which include not only discrete and continuous dynamical systems but also systems with a mixture of discrete and continuous parts (e.g. hybrid dynamical systems). We develop a comprehensive Floquet theory including Lyapunov transformations and their various stability preserving properties, a unified Floquet theorem which establishes a canonical Floquet decomposition on time scales in terms of the generalized exponential function, and use these results to study homogeneous as well as nonhomogeneous periodic problems. Furthermore, we explore the connection between Floquet multipliers and Floquet exponents via monodromy operators in this general setting and establish a spectral mapping theorem on time scales. Finally, we show this unified Floquet theory has the desirable property that stability characteristics of the original system can be determined via placement of an associated (but time varying) system?s poles in the complex plane. We include several examples to show the utility of this theory.  相似文献

In order to optimize the stability regions we construct families of k multi-step methods with free parameters and of order k+1. We exhibit parameters for which the real interval of stability is arbitrarly large and using the Flexible Tolerance Method we show how these parameters optimize - under a predefined criterion - the stability region.
