Let \({\Omega}\) be a Lipschitz bounded domain of \({\mathbb{R}^N}\), \({N\geq2}\), and let \({u_p\in W_0^{1,p}(\Omega)}\) denote the p-torsion function of \({\Omega}\), p > 1. It is observed that the value 1 for the Cheeger constant \({h(\Omega)}\) is threshold with respect to the asymptotic behavior of up, as \({p\rightarrow 1^+}\), in the following sense: when \({h(\Omega) > 1}\), one has \({\lim_{p\rightarrow 1^+}\left\|u_{p}\right\| _{L^\infty(\Omega)}=0}\), and when \({h(\Omega) < 1}\), one has \({\lim_{p\rightarrow 1^+}\left\|u_p\right\| _{L^\infty(\Omega)}=\infty}\). In the case \({h(\Omega)=1}\), it is proved that \({\limsup_{p\rightarrow1^+}\left\|u_p\right\|_{L^\infty(\Omega)}<\infty}\). For a radial annulus \({\Omega_{a,b}}\), with inner radius a and outer radius b, it is proved that \({\lim_{p\rightarrow 1^+}\left\|u_p\right\| _{L^\infty(\Omega_{a,b})}=0}\) when \({h(\Omega_{a,b})=1}\).  相似文献

This work deals with the solvability near the characteristic set Σ = {0} × S 1 of operators of the form \({L=\partial/\partial t + (x^na(x) + ix^mb(x))\partial/\partial x}\), \({b\not\equiv0}\) and a(0) ≠ 0, defined on \({\Omega_\epsilon=(-\epsilon,\epsilon)\times S^1}\), \({\epsilon >0 }\), where a and b are real-valued smooth functions in \({(-\epsilon,\epsilon)}\) and m ≥ 2n. It is shown that given f belonging to a subspace of finite codimension of \({C^\infty(\Omega_\epsilon)}\) there is a solution \({u\in L^\infty}\) of the equation Lu = f in a neighborhood of Σ; moreover, the L regularity is sharp.  相似文献

Let \({\{\phi_s\}_{s\in S}}\) be a commutative semigroup of completely positive, contractive, and weak*-continuous linear maps acting on a von Neumann algebra N. Assume there exists a semigroup \({\{\alpha_s\}_{s\in S}}\) of weak*-continuous *-endomorphisms of some larger von Neumann algebra \({M\supset N}\) and a projection \({p\in M}\) with N = pMp such that α s (1 ? p) ≤ 1 ? p for every \({s\in S}\) and \({\phi_s(y)=p\alpha_s(y)p}\) for all \({y\in N}\). If \({\inf_{s \in S}\alpha_s(1-p)=0}\) then we show that the map \({E:M\to N}\) defined by E(x) = pxp for \({x\in M}\) induces a complete isometry between the fixed point spaces of \({\{\alpha_s\}_{s\in S}}\) and \({\{\phi_s\}_{s\in S}}\).  相似文献

The main purpose of this paper is to prove the following result. Let R be a 2-torsion free semiprime ring with symmetric Martindale ring of quotients Q s and let \({\theta}\) and \({\phi}\) be automorphisms of R. Suppose \({T:R\rightarrow R}\) is an additive mapping satisfying the relation \({T(xyx)=T(x)\theta (y)\theta (x)-\phi (x)T(y)\theta (x)+\phi (x)\phi (y)T(x)}\), for all pairs \({x,y\in R}\). In this case T is of the form \({2T(x)=q\theta (x)+\phi (x)q}\), for all \({x\in R}\) and some fixed element \({q\in Q_{s}}\).  相似文献

Let \({{\|\cdot\|}}\) be a norm on \({\mathbb{R}^n}\) and \({\|.\|_*}\) be the dual norm. If \({\|\cdot\|}\) has a normalized 1-symmetric basis \({\{e_i\}_{i=1}^n}\) then the following inequalities hold: for all \({x,y\in \mathbb{R}^n}\), \({\|x\|\cdot\|y\|_*\le \max(\|x\|_1\cdot\|y\|_\infty,\|x\|_\infty\cdot\|y\|_1)}\) and if the basis is only 1-unconditional and normalized then for all \({x \in \mathbb{R}^n}\) , \({\|x\|+\|x\|_{*}\leq \|x\|_1+\|x\|_\infty}\) . We consider other geometric generalizations and apply these results to get, as a special case, estimates on best random embeddings of k-dimensional Hilbert spaces in the spaces of nuclear operators \({{\mathcal N}(K,K)}\) of dimension n 2, for all k = [λn 2] and 0 < λ < 1. We obtain universal upper bounds independent on the 1-symmetric norm \({\|.\|}\) for the products of pth moments
$\left( {\mathbb{E}} \left\|\sum_{i=1}^n f_i(\omega)\,e_i\right\|^p\cdot\, \mathbb {E} \left\|\sum_{i=1}^n f_i(\omega)\,e_i\right\|_*^p\right)^{1/p}$
for independent random variables {f i (ω)}, and 1 ≤ p < ∞.

Besov spaces \({{\mathbf B}^s_{p,q} ({\mathbb R}^n)}\) with s > 0 can be normed in terms of the differences \({\Delta^m_h f}\) and related moduli of smoothness ω m (f, t) p , where \({0 < s < m \in {\mathbb N}}\). The paper deals with the question what happens if \({s {\uparrow} m}\) and how the outcome is related to the Sobolev spaces \({{\mathbf W}^m_p ({\mathbb R}^n)}\).  相似文献

We consider the Schrödinger operator \({e^{it\Delta}}\) acting on initial data f in \({\dot{H}^s}\). We show that an affirmative answer to a question of Carleson, concerning the sharp range of s for which \({\lim_{t\to 0}e^{it\Delta}f(x)=f(x)}\) a.e. \({x\in \mathbb {R}^n}\), would imply an affirmative answer to a question of Planchon, concerning the sharp range of q and r for which \({e^{it\Delta}}\) is bounded in \({L_x^q(\mathbb {R}^n,L^r_t(\mathbb {R}))}\). When n  =  2, we unconditionally improve the range for which the mixed norm estimates hold.  相似文献

If every k-membered subfamily of a family of plane convex bodies has a line transversal, then we say that this family has property T(k). We say that a family \({\mathcal{F}}\) has property \({T-m}\), if there exists a subfamily \({\mathcal{G} \subset \mathcal{F}}\) with \({|\mathcal{F} - \mathcal{G}| \le m}\) admitting a line transversal. Heppes [7] posed the problem whether there exists a convex body K in the plane such that if \({\mathcal{F}}\) is a finite T(3)-family of disjoint translates of K, then m = 3 is the smallest value for which \({\mathcal{F}}\) has property \({T-m}\). In this paper, we study this open problem in terms of finite T(3)-families of pairwise disjoint translates of a regular 2n-gon \({(n \ge 5)}\). We find out that, for \({5 \le n \le 34}\), the family has property \({T - 3}\) ; for \({n \ge 35}\), the family has property \({T - 2}\).  相似文献

Let \({\Omega^i\subset {\bf R}^n, i\in\{1,2\}}\) , be two (δ, r 0)-Reifenberg flat domains, for some \({0 < \delta < \hat \delta}\) and r 0 > 0, assume \({\Omega^1\cap\Omega^2=\emptyset}\) and that, for some \({w\in {\bf R}^n}\) and some 0 < r, \({w\in\partial\Omega^1\cap\partial\Omega^2, \partial\Omega^1\cap B(w,2r)=\partial\Omega^2\cap B(w,2r)}\) . Let p, 1 < p < ∞, be given and let u i , \({i\in\{1,2\}}\) , denote a non-negative p-harmonic function in Ω i , assume that u i , \({i\in\{1,2\}}\), is continuous in \({\bar\Omega^i\cap B(w,2r) }\) and that u i  = 0 on \({\partial\Omega^i\cap B(w,2r)}\) . Extend u i to B(w, 2r) by defining \({u^i\equiv 0}\) on \({B(w,2r) {\setminus} \Omega^i}\). Then there exists a unique finite positive Borel measure μ i , \({i\in\{1,2\}}\) , on R n , with support in \({\partial\Omega^i\cap B(w,2r)}\) , such that if \({\phi \in C_0^\infty (B(w,2r))}\) , then
$\int\limits_{\mathbf R^n} \,|\nabla u^i|^{ p-2} \,\langle \nabla u^i, \,\nabla \phi \rangle \,dx =- \int\limits_{\mathbf R^n} \,\phi \,d \mu^i.$
Let \({\Delta(w,2r)=\partial\Omega^1\cap B(w,2r)=\partial\Omega^2\cap B(w,2r)}\) . The main result proved in this paper is the following. Assume that μ 2 is absolutely continuous with respect to μ 1 on Δ(w, 2r), d μ 2 = kd μ 1 for μ 1-almost every point in Δ(w, 2r) and that \({\log k\in VMO(\Delta(w,r),\mu^1)}\) . Then there exists \({\tilde \delta = \tilde \delta(p,n) > 0}\) , \({\tilde \delta < \hat \delta}\) , such that if \({\delta\leq\tilde\delta}\) , then Δ(w, r/2) is Reifenberg flat with vanishing constant. Moreover, the special case p = 2, i.e., the linear case and the corresponding problem for harmonic measures, has previously been studied in Kenig and Toro (J Reine Angew Math 596:1–44, 2006).

We fix an integer \({n \geq 1}\) and a divisor m of n such that n/m is odd. Let p be a prime number of the form \({p=2n\ell+1}\) for some odd prime number \({\ell}\) with \({\ell \nmid m}\). Let \({S=pB_{1,2m\ell}}\) be the p times of the generalised Bernoulli number associated to an odd Dirichlet character of conductor p and order \({2m\ell}\), which is an algebraic integer of the \({2m\ell}\)th cyclotomic field. It is known that \({S \neq 0}\). More strongly, we show that when \({\ell}\) is sufficiently large, the trace of \({\zeta^{-1}S}\) to the \({2m}\)th cyclotomic field does not vanish for any\({\ell}\)th root \({\zeta}\) of unity. We also show a related result on indivisibility of relative class numbers.  相似文献

For a family of interpolation norms \({\| \cdot \|_{1,2,s}}\) on \({\mathbb{R}^{n}}\), we provide a distribution over random matrices \({\Phi_s \in \mathbb{R}^{m \times n}}\) parametrized by sparsity level s such that for a fixed set X of K points in \({\mathbb{R}^{n}}\), if \({m \geq C s \log(K)}\) then with high probability, \({\frac{1}{2}\| \varvec{x} \|_{1,2,s} \leq \| \Phi_s (\varvec{x}) \|_1 \leq 2 \| \varvec{x} \|_{1,2,s}}\) for all \({\varvec{x} \in X}\). Several existing results in the literature roughly reduce to special cases of this result at different values of s: For s = n, \({\| \varvec{x} \|_{1,2,n}\equiv \| \varvec{x} \|_{1}}\) and we recover that dimension reducing linear maps can preserve the ?1-norm up to a distortion proportional to the dimension reduction factor, which is known to be the best possible such result. For s = 1, \({\| \varvec{x} \|_{1,2,1}\equiv \| \varvec{x} \|_{2}}\), and we recover an ?2/?1 variant of the Johnson–Lindenstrauss Lemma for Gaussian random matrices. Finally, if \({\varvec{x}}\) is s- sparse, then \({\| \varvec{x} \|_{1,2,s} = \| \varvec{x} \|_1}\) and we recover that s-sparse vectors in \({\ell_1^n}\) embed into \({\ell_1^{\mathcal{O}(s \log(n))}}\) via sparse random matrix constructions.  相似文献

A theorem due to Stieltjes’ states that if \({\{p_n\}_{n=0}^\infty}\) is any orthogonal sequence then, between any two consecutive zeros of p k , there is at least one zero of p n whenever k < n, a property called Stieltjes interlacing. We show that Stieltjes interlacing extends to the zeros of Gegenbauer polynomials \({C_{n+1}^{\lambda}}\) and \({C_{n-1}^{\lambda+t}}\), \({\lambda > -\frac 12}\), if 0 < tk + 1, and also to the zeros of \({C_{n+1}^{\lambda}}\) and \({C_{n-2}^{\lambda +k}}\) if \({k\in\{1,2,3\}}\). More generally, we prove that Stieltjes interlacing holds between the zeros of the kth derivative of \({C_{n}^{\lambda}}\) and the zeros of \({C_{n+1}^{\lambda}}\), \({k\in\{1,2,\dots,n-1\}}\) and we derive associated polynomials that play an analogous role to the de Boor–Saff polynomials in completing the interlacing process of the zeros.  相似文献

In this article, the authors establish conditions for the extinction of solutions, in finite time, of the fast diffusion equation \({u_t=\Delta u^m+a\int_\Omega u^p(y,t)\,{d}y,\ 0 < m < 1,}\) in a bounded domain \({\Omega\subset R^N}\) with N > 2. More precisely speaking, it is shown that if p > m, any solution with small initial data vanishes in finite time, and if p < m, the maximal solution is positive in Ω for all t > 0. For the critical case p = m, whether the solutions vanish in finite time or not depends on the value of , where \({\mu=\int_{\Omega}\varphi(x)\,{d}x}\) and \({\varphi}\) is the unique positive solution of the elliptic problem \({-\Delta\varphi(x)=1,\ x\in \Omega; \varphi(x)=0,\ x\in\partial\Omega}\) .  相似文献

In this paper, we study the existence and multiplicity of homoclinic solutions for the following second-order p(t)-Laplacian–Hamiltonian systems
$$\frac{{\rm d}}{{\rm d}t}(|\dot{u}(t)|^{p(t)-2}\dot{u}(t))-a(t)|u(t)|^{p(t)-2}u(t)+\nabla W(t,u(t))=0,$$
where \({t \in \mathbb{R}}\), \({u \in \mathbb{R}^n}\), \({p \in C(\mathbb{R},\mathbb{R})}\) with p(t) > 1, \({a \in C(\mathbb{R},\mathbb{R})}\), \({W\in C^1(\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{R}^n,\mathbb{R})}\) and \({\nabla W(t,u)}\) is the gradient of W(t, u) in u. The point is that, assuming that a(t) is bounded in the sense that there are constants \({0<\tau_1<\tau_2<\infty}\) such that \({\tau_1\leq a(t)\leq \tau_2 }\) for all \({t \in \mathbb{R}}\) and W(t, u) is of super-p(t) growth or sub-p(t) growth as \({|u|\rightarrow \infty}\), we provide two new criteria to ensure the existence and multiplicity of homoclinic solutions, respectively. Recent results in the literature are extended and significantly improved.

Let CC d,k be the largest possible number of vertices in a cyclic Cayley graph of degree d and diameter k, and let AC d,k be the largest order in an Abelian Cayley graph for given d and k. We show that \({CC_{d,2} \geq \frac{13}{36} (d + 2)(d -4)}\) for any d= 6p?2 where p is a prime such that \({p \neq 13}\) , \({p \not\equiv 1}\) (mod 13), and \({AC_{d,3} \geq \frac{9}{128} (d + 3)^2(d - 5)}\) for d = 8q?3 where q is a prime power.  相似文献

The Steiner tree problem is a classical NP-hard optimization problem with a wide range of practical applications. In an instance of this problem, we are given an undirected graph G = (V, E), a set of terminals \({R\subseteq V}\) , and non-negative costs c e for all edges \({e \in E}\) . Any tree that contains all terminals is called a Steiner tree; the goal is to find a minimum-cost Steiner tree. The vertices \({V \backslash R}\) are called Steiner vertices. The best approximation algorithm known for the Steiner tree problem is a greedy algorithm due to Robins and Zelikovsky (SIAM J Discrete Math 19(1):122–134, 2005); it achieves a performance guarantee of \({1+\frac{\ln 3}{2}\approx 1.55}\) . The best known linear programming (LP)-based algorithm, on the other hand, is due to Goemans and Bertsimas (Math Program 60:145–166, 1993) and achieves an approximation ratio of 2?2/|R|. In this paper we establish a link between greedy and LP-based approaches by showing that Robins and Zelikovsky’s algorithm can be viewed as an iterated primal-dual algorithm with respect to a novel LP relaxation. The LP used in the first iteration is stronger than the well-known bidirected cut relaxation. An instance is b-quasi-bipartite if each connected component of \({G \backslash R}\) has at most b vertices. We show that Robins’ and Zelikovsky’s algorithm has an approximation ratio better than \({1+\frac{\ln 3}{2}}\) for such instances, and we prove that the integrality gap of our LP is between \({\frac{8}{7}}\) and \({\frac{2b+1}{b+1}}\) .  相似文献

A sequence A of nonnegative integers is called complete if all sufficiently large integers can be represented as the sum of distinct terms taken form A. For a sequence \({S=\{s_{1}, s_{2}, \dots\}}\) of positive integers and a positive real number α, let S α denote the sequence \({\{\lfloor\alpha s_{1}\rfloor, \lfloor\alpha s_{2}\rfloor, \dots\}}\), where \({\lfloor x \rfloor}\) denotes the greatest integer not greater than x. Let \({{U_S = \{\alpha \mid S_\alpha} \, is complete\}}\). Hegyvári [6] proved that if \({\lim_{n\to\infty} (s_{n+1}-s_{n})=+ \infty}\), \({s_{n+1} < \gamma s_{n}}\) for all integers \({n \geqq n_{0}}\), where \({1 < \gamma < 2}\), and \({U_{S}\ne\emptyset}\), then \({\mu(U_{S}) > 0}\), where \({\mu(U_{S})}\) is the Lebesgue measure of U S . Yong-Gao Chen and the first author [4] proved that, if \({s_{n+1} < \gamma s_{n}}\) for all integers \({n \geqq n_{0}}\), where \({1 < \gamma \leqq 7/4=1.75}\), then \({\mu(U_{S}) > 0}\). In this paper, we prove that the conclusion holds for \({1 < \gamma \leqq \sqrt[4]{13}=1.898\dots\;}\).  相似文献

In this paper, a quasi-periodically forced nonlinear beam equation \({u_{tt}+u_{xxxx}+\mu u+\varepsilon\phi(t)h(u)=0}\) with hinged boundary conditions is considered, where μ > 0, \({\varepsilon}\) is a small positive parameter, \({\phi}\) is a real analytic quasi-periodic function in t with a frequency vector ω = (ω 1,ω 2 . . . , ω m ), and the nonlinearity h is a real analytic odd function of the form \({h(u)=\eta_1u+\eta_{2\bar{r}+1}u^{2\bar{r}+1}+\sum_{k\geq \bar{r}+1}\eta_{2k+1}u^{2k+1},\eta_1,\eta_{2\bar{r}+1} \neq0, \bar{r} \in {\mathbb {N}}.}\) The above equation admits a quasi-periodic solution.  相似文献

Je?manowicz [9] conjectured that, for positive integers m and n with m > n, gcd(m,n) = 1 and \({m\not\equiv n\pmod{2}}\), the exponential Diophantine equation \({(m^2-n^2)^x+(2mn)^y=(m^2+n^2)^z}\) has only the positive integer solution (x, y, z) = (2, 2, 2). We prove the conjecture for \({2 \| mn}\) and m + n has a prime factor p with \({p\not\equiv1\pmod{16}}\).  相似文献

In this paper, we study Toeplitz operators T μ from one Fock space \({F^{p}_{\alpha}}\) to another \({F^{q}_{\alpha}}\) for 1 < p, q < ∞ with positive Borel measures μ as symbols. We characterize the boundedness (and compactness) of \({T_\mu: F^{p}_{\alpha} \to F^{q}_{\alpha}}\) in terms of the averaging function \({\widehat{\mu}_r}\) and the t-Berezin transform \({\widetilde{\mu}_t}\) respectively. Quite differently from the Bergman space case, we show that T μ is bounded (or compact) from \({F^{p}_{\alpha}}\) to \({F^{q}_{\alpha}}\) for some p ≤ q if and only if T μ is bounded (or compact) from \({F^{p}_{\alpha}}\) to \({F^{q}_{\alpha}}\) for all p ≤ q. In order to prove our main results on T μ , we introduce and characterize (vanishing) (p, q)-Fock Carleson measures on C n .  相似文献
