A first-principles plane wave method with the ultrasoft pseudopotential scheme in the frame of the density functional theory (DFT) is performed to calculate the lattice parameters a and c, the bulk modulus B0 and its pressure derivative B0 of the zinc-blende GaAs (ZB-GaAs), rocksalt GaAs (RS-GaAs), CsCl-GaAs, NiAs- GaAs and wurtzite GaAs (WZ-GaAs). Our results are consistent with the available experimental data and other theoretical results. We also calculate the phase transition pressures among these different phases. The results are satisfactory.  相似文献

The equilibrium lattice constants, temperature dependence of bulk modulus, the pressure dependence of the normalized volume V/V0, elastic constants Cij and bulk modulus of LaNi5 crystal are obtained using the firstprincipies piane-wave pseudopotential method in the GGA-PBE generalized gradient approximation as well as the quasi-harmonic Debye model. We analyse the relationship between bulk modulus and temperature up to 2000 K and obtain the relationship between bulk modulus B and pressure at diFFerent temperatures. It is found that the bulk modulus B increases monotonously with increasing pressure. Moreover, the pressure dependences of Debye temperatures and the pressure derivatives of lattice constants are also successfully obtained. The calculated results are in agreement with the experimental data and the other theoretical results.  相似文献

High-pressure behaviour of orthorhombic MgSiO3 perovskite crystal is simulated by using the density functional theory and plane-wave pseudopotentials approach up to 120 GPa pressure at zero temperature. The lattice constants and mass density of the MgSiO3 crystal as functions of pressure are computed, and the corresponding bulk modulus and bulk velocity are evaluated. Our theoretical results agree well with the high-pressure experimental data. A thermodynamic method is introduced to correct the temperature effect on the O-K first-principles results of bulk wave velocity, bulk modulus and mass density in lower mantle PIT range. Taking into account the temperature corrections, the corrected mass density, bulk modulus and bulk wave velocity of MgSiO3-perovskite are estimated from the first-principles results to be 2%, 4%, and 1% lower than the preliminary reference Earth model (PREM) profile, respectively, supporting the possibility of a pure perovskite lower mantle model.  相似文献

The structure, elastic properties and elastic anisotropy of orthorhombic OsB2 are investigated by density functional theory method with the ultrasoft pseudopotential scheme in the frame of the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) as well as local density approximation (LDA). The obtained structural parameters, elastic constants, elastic anisotropy and Debye temperature for OsB2 under pressure are consistent with the available experimental data and other theoretical results. It is found that the elastic constants, bulk modulus and Debye temperature of OsB2 tend to increase with increasing pressure. It is predicted that OsB2 is not a superhard material from our calculations.  相似文献

Cuprous halides are found to show significantly different behaviour from that of alkali halides. This difference is mainly due to the presence of outermost d-electrons present in Cu+ ion. In the present paper, the ab initio pseudopotential formalism incorporating the effect of d-electrons is used to generate the equation of state (EOS) for group I-VII binary compounds from first-principles calculations. The expression for the EOS is derived for the first time within the pseudopotential framework. The computed isothermal compression curves for cuprous halides are compared with compression curves from other EOSs belonging to different classes and categories and have also been tested for the prediction of end point.  相似文献

The density functional theory (DFT) calculations of structural, elastic, electronic and optical properties of the cubic antiperovskite AsNMg3 has been reported using the pseudo-potential plane wave method (PP-PW) within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The equilibrium lattice, bulk modulus and its pressure derivative have been determined. The elastic constants and their pressure dependence are calculated using the static finite strain technique. We derived the bulk and shear moduli, Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio for ideal polycrystalline AsNMg3 aggregate. We estimated the Debye temperature of AsNMg3 from the average sound velocity. This is the first quantitative theoretical prediction of the elastic properties of AsNMg3 compound, and it still awaits experimental confirmation. Band structure, density of states and pressure coefficients of energy gaps are also given. The fundamental band gap (Γ-Γ) initially increases up to 4 GPa and then decreases as a function of pressure. Furthermore, the dielectric function, optical reflectivity, refractive index, extinction coefficient, and electron energy loss are calculated for radiation up to 30 eV. The all results are compared with the available theoretical and experimental data.  相似文献

Based on the first-principles plane-wave basis pseudopotential calculations, we investigate mechanical properties and electronic structures of the hardest known oxide, cotunnite TiO2. The calculated results show that cotunnite TiO2 has the highest bulk modulus (348 GPa) and hardness (32 GPa) among the high-pressure phases of TiO2, but its mechanical properties are not superior to those of c-BN. Moreover, the high hardness of cotunnite TiO2 can be understood from both the dense crystal structure (high valence electron density and short bond lengths) and the unusual mixtures of covalent and ionic bonding of Ti-O.  相似文献

In the present study we have derived the expression for the bulk modulus using the Hildebrand approximation and the lattice potential energy for rare gas solids (RGS). The derived relation is further used to derive the expression for first and second order pressure derivatives of the bulk modulus for RGS. The derived relations are also used to compute the values of these constants in the case of Ne, Ar, Kr and Xe which are compared with the available values.  相似文献

First-principles calculations of the crystal structure and the elastic properties of RuB2 have been carried out with the plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory method. The calculated values are in very good agreement with experimental data as well as with some of the existing model calculations. The elastic constants cij, the aggregate elastic moduli (B, G, E), Poisson's ratio, and the elastic anisotropy with pressure have been investigated. Through the quasi-harmonic Debye model considering the phonon effects, the isothermal bulk modulus, the thermal expansions, Grüneisen parameters, and Debye temperatures depending on the temperature and pressure are obtained in the whole pressure range from 0 to 60 GPa and temperature range from 0 to 1100 K as well as compared to available data.  相似文献

The pressure-volume relation and the compression effect on the bulk modulus of tetrahedral compounds such as GaP, InP, ZnS, ZnSe, ZnTe and CdTe are investigated from the electronic theory of solids by using our recently presented binding force, which includes mainly covalent interactions in the pseudopotential formalism and partially ionic interactions. The calculated results of the pressure-volume relations involving the pressure-induced phase transition are useful when comparing with the experimental data under high pressure. The calculated bulk modulus of these compounds increases as the crystal volume decreases. Further, the pressure derivative of bulk modulus is not constant and decreases with the reduction of the crystal volume.  相似文献

This paper investigates the equilibrium lattice parameters, heat capacity, thermal expansion coefficient, bulk modulus and its pressure derivative of LaNi 5 crystal by using the first-principles plane-wave pseudopotential method in the GGA-PBE generalized gradient approximation as well as the quasi-harmonic Debye model. The dependences of bulk modulus on temperature and on pressure are investigated. For the first time it analyses the relationships between bulk modulus B and temperature T up to 1000 K, the relationship between bulk modulus B and pressure at different temperatures are worked out. The pressure dependences of heat capacity C v and thermal expansion α at various temperatures are also analysed. Finally, the Debye temperatures of LaNi 5 at different pressures are successfully obtained. The calculated results are in excellent agreement with the experimental data.  相似文献

The structural, elastic and thermodynamic properties of thorium tetraboride (ThB4) have been investigated by using first-principles plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory with generalized gradient approximation. The behaviors of structural parameters under 0-70 GPa hydrostatic pressure are studied by means of Broyden, Fletcher, Goldfarb, and Shanno (BFGS) geometry optimization scheme. By using the stress-strain method, single crystal elastic constants are calculated to test the mechanical stability of the crystal structure and to determine mechanical properties such as bulk modulus at each pressure. However, in order to study the thermodynamic properties of ThB4, the quasi-harmonic Debye model is used. Then, the dependencies of bulk modulus, heat capacities, thermal expansions, Grüneisen parameters and Debye temperatures on the temperature and pressure are obtained in the whole pressure range 0-70 GPa and temperature range 0-1500 K.  相似文献

The plane-wave pseudopotentiai method using the generaiized gradient approximation within the framework of density functional theory is applied to anaylse the bulk modulus, thermal expansion coefficient and heat capacity of LaB6. The quasi-harmonic Debye model, using a set of total energy versus volume obtained with the plane-wave pseudopotential method, is applied to the study of the thermal properties and vibrationai effects. We analyse the bulk modulus of LaB6 up to 1500 K. The elastic properties calculations show that our system is mechanically stable. For the heat capacity and the thermal expansion, significant differences in properties are observed above 300K. The calculated zero pressure bulk modulus is in good agreement with the experimental data. Moreover, the Debye temperatures are determined from the non-equilibrium Gibbs functions and compared to available data.  相似文献

Dependence of bulk modulus on both pressure and temperature, the elastic constants Cij and the pressure and temperature dependence of normalized volume V/Vo of cubic Ni2MnGa alloy are successfully obtained using the first-principles plane-wave pseudopotential (PW-PP) method as well as the quasi-harmonic Debye model. We analyse the relationship between bulk modulus and temperature up to 800 K and obtain the relationships between bulk modulus B and pressures at different temperatures. It is found that the bulk modulus B increases monotonically with increasing pressure. Moreover, the temperature dependences of the Debye temperature are also analysed. The calculated results are in agreement with the available experimental data and the previous theoreticM results.  相似文献

The compressibility, the temperature dependence of bulk modulus, the pressure dependence of normalized volume V/V0, thermal expansion coefficient and Debye temperature of LaNi5-xAlx compounds are successfully obtained using the first-principles plane-wave pseudopotential (PW-PP) method, the EOSFIT6.0 software and the quasiharmonic Debye model. The rapid decrease of relative lattice constant a/a0 shows that the deformation is easier in directions normal to the c-axis than that along it. The relationships between bulk modulus B and pressure at different temperatures are also analysed. It is found that the bulk modulus B increases monotonically with increasing pressure. Moreover, the pressure dependences of thermal expansion and Debye temperature are also successfully obtained. The calculated results are in agreement with the experimental data.  相似文献

The structural and elastic properties of the antiperovskite semiconductor AsNMg3 are investigated using the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave plus local orbital (FP-LAPW+lo) method within the generalized gradient in the frame of the density functional theory. The ground state properties such as lattice constant, bulk modulus, pressure derivative of the bulk modulus and elastic constants are in good agreement with numerous experimental and theoretical data. Through the quasi-harmonic Debye model, in which the phononic effects are considered, we have obtained successfully the thermodynamic properties such as the thermal expansion coefficient, Debye temperature and specific heats in the whole pressure range from 0 to 30 GPa and temperature range from 0 to 1200 K.  相似文献

We report local density-functional calculations using the full-potential linearized muffin-tin orbital method (FP-LMTO) for platinum carbide (PtC) in the, rock-salt (B1), zinc-blende (B3), wurtzite (B4), nickel-arsenide (B8) and PbO (B10) structures. The ground state properties such as the equilibrium lattice constant, elastic constants, the bulk modulus and its pressure derivative of PtC in these phases are determined and compared with available experimental and theoretical data. Our calculations show that the ground state phase of PtC to be zinc-blende (B3) structure at zero pressure and the nickel-arsenide (B8) structure is a high-pressure phase. The transition pressures at which this compound undergoes the structural phase transition from (B3) to (B8) and from (B3) to (B1) are found to be 34.25 and 51.28 GPa, respectively. The highest bulk modulus values in the nickel-arsenide (B8), zinc-blende (B3), rock-salt (B1) and PbO (B10) structures indicate that PtC is a hard material.  相似文献

First principle calculations of elastic properties under pressure of the filled tetrahedral semiconductors LiZnN, LiZnP and LiZnAs are presented, using the pseudo-potential plane-waves approach based on density functional theory, within the local density approximation. Elastic constants, bulk modulus, Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio are calculated at zero pressure. A linear dependence of the bulk modulus and elastic constants with applied pressure is found. As the experimental elastic constants are not available for LiZnX, we have also calculated the elastic constants of GaN, GaP and GaAs, the binary analogues of LiZnN, LiZnP and LiZnAs, respectively, for checking the reliability and accuracy of our predicted results for LiZnX. The obtained results agree well with the available experimental data.  相似文献
