The ionic self-assembly monolayer process is a novel technique that has already been used to deposit ultrathin films on glass, polymer, and silicon substrates of different sizes and shapes. This technique is presented as a new tool with which to apply coatings on optical fibers. A nanometer-scale interferometric cavity was built up at the end of an optical fiber with discrete thickness increments of 4.75 nm for a total thickness of 1 mum . Theoretical and experimental aspects of the nanometer-scale Fabry-Perot cavity are described, and both theoretical and experimental results show good agreement.  相似文献

A miniature Fabry-Perot (FP) interferometric fiber-optic sensor suitable for high-temperature sensing is proposed and demonstrated. The sensor head consists of two FP cavities formed by fusion splicing a short hollow-core fiber and a piece of single-mode fiber at a photonic crystal fiber in series. The reflection spectra of an implemented sensor are measured at several temperatures and analyzed in the spatial frequency domain. The experiment shows that the thermal-optic effect of the cavity material is much more appreciable than its thermal expansion. The temperature measurements up to 1000 degrees C with a step of 50 degrees C confirm that it could be applicable as a high-temperature sensor.  相似文献

A simple Fabry-Perot interferometer was used for measurements of microwave spectra. Both basic experimental arrangements, absorption and emission, were tested on the rotational spectra of acetonitrile. The interferometric results obtained were compared with the spectra measured using a standard high resolution microwave spectrometer.  相似文献

一般共焦法布里-佩罗(Fabry-Perot,FP)干涉仪只能检测声场的法向位移分量,而声场的切向位移分量含有法向位移分量所不能表达的材料特性。本文在检测声场法向位移分量共焦FP干涉仪的基础上,自行研制了一新颖的双通道共焦F-P干涉仪,它同时检测来自试样表面+θ和-θ角上的散射光,通过对两路输出信号作简单的信号处理,可以得到试样表面的位移点。用该F-P干涉仪测量了脉冲激光在Ti膜上激发的Lamb波的法向和切向位移,结果与理论预计一致。  相似文献

Taking into account the wave structure of the light beam, determined by diffraction theory, we consider the harmful effect of the inclination of the mirrors of a Fabry-Perot interferometer when fringes of equal inclination are being observed. It is found that the contrast and resolution of the fringes of equal inclination are reduced as the angle of the wedge so formed is increased, and the interferometer (resonator) completely loses its high-resolution capability (Q-factor) when the mirrors deviate from parallelism by an angle equal to half the diffraction angle at its aperture. The advantages of stopping down both the incoming and outgoing beams in improving the contrast and increasing the resolution of the fringes of equal inclination are pointed out.The author thanks Professor F. An ultrasonic sensitivity-improved fiber-optic Fabry-Perot interferometer(FPI) is proposed and employed for ultrasonic imaging of seismic physical models(SPMs). The FPI comprises a flexible ultra-thin gold film and the end face of a graded-index multimode fiber(MMF), both of which are enclosed in a ceramic tube. The MMF in a specified length can collimate the diverged light beam and compensate for the light loss inside the air cavity, leading to an increased spectral fringe visibility and thus a steeper spectral slope. By using the spectral sideband filtering technique, the collimated FPI shows an improved ultrasonic response. Moreover, two-dimensional images of two SPMs are achieved in air by reconstructing the pulse-echo signals through using the time-of-flight approach. The proposed sensor with easy fabrication and compact size can be a good candidate for high-sensitivity and high-precision nondestructive testing of SPMs.  相似文献

The incorporation of a phase grating into the optical system of a Fabry-Perot interferometer makes it possible to transform the incident beam of light so that the major part of energy in the reflected wave is contained in the side lobes in the far-field diffraction pattern and radiation in the zero order of diffraction along the optical axis is suppressed. Experimental results are presented, which are obtained with a grating produced by evaporating a thin-layer dielectric coating onto the input mirror of the interferometer.  相似文献

A novel scheme is proposed to transform a Gaussian optical pulse to a millimeter-wave (mm-wave) frequency modulation pulse by using a Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) for radio-over-fiber (ROF) system.It is shown that modulation frequency of mm-wave is determined by the optical path of the Fabry-Perot (F-P) cavity, and amplitude decay time and energy transfer efficiency are related to the reflectivity of the F-P cavity mirror. We propose a novel fiber Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) that incorporates a length of microfiber as its cavity and two fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) as reflectors. The microfiber FPI is simply fabricated by flame-heated taper-drawing the central spot of an FBG into a section of microfiber. Ambient refractive index (RI) influences the effective index of microfiber, and thus the free spectrum range of the microfiber FPI, resulting in RI sensing. A dual-wavelength fiber laser based on the microfiber FPI is constructed, enabling radio frequency interrogation with high resolution. RI sensitivity of 911 MHz/RIU is experimentally demonstrated for microfiber FPI with equivalent diameter of 1.455 μm. Simulation results indicate that the sensitivity can be further enhanced by reducing the diameter of the microfiber.  相似文献

A novel fiber-optic in-line etalon formed by splicing a section of hollow-core photonic crystal fiber (HCPCF) in between two single-mode fibers is proposed and demonstrated, for the first time to our knowledge. Such a HCPCF-based etalon acts as an excellent optical waveguide to form a Fabry-Perot interferometer and hence allows the cavity length to be as long as several centimeters with good visibility as the transmission loss of the HCPCF is much smaller than that of a hollow core fiber; this offers great potential to generate a practical dense fiber-optic sensor network with spatial frequency division-multiplexing. This novel etalon is demonstrated for strain measurement, and the experimental results show that a good visibility of 0.3 and a strain accuracy of better than +/- 5 microepsilon are achieved.  相似文献

The frequency shift of laser source of Doppler lidar is required in the range of a few megahertzs. To satisfy this demand, a confocal Fabry-Perot (F-P) interferometer was manufactured as the frequency standard for frequency stabilization. After analyzing and contrasting the center frequency shift of confocal Fabry-Perot interferometers that are made of three different types of material with the change of temperature, the zerodur material was selected to fabricate the interferometer, and the cavity mirrors were optically contacted onto the end of spacer. The confocal Fabry-Perot interferometer was situated within a double-walled chamber, and the change of temperature in the chamber was less than 0.01 K. The experimental results indicate that the free spectral range is 500 MHz, the full-width at half maximum is 3.33 MHz, and the finesse is 150.  相似文献

A simple variable length (10–50 cm) air-spaced Fabry-Perot interferometer has been used to calibrate the tuning characteristics of a c.w. InSb spin-flip Raman laser (SFRL). The SFRL output frequency is determined by competition between the spontaneous spin-flip resonance line and the cavity axial modes of the InSb crystal. Over several cavity modes the SRFL is found to tune linearly within ±250 MHz and inside a single mode to ±50 MHz. The tuning rate over several modes is found to be 2.35 cm-1/kgauss and within a single mode the tuning rate is 1.80 cm-1/kgauss. Frequency jumps of ≈500 MHz between modes are inferred. Used in conjunction with the observation of known molecular absorption lines as frequency standards, the interferometer provides a calibration of the SFRL suitable for infra-red Doppler limited spectroscopy. of gases. The observed frequency asymmetry in the SFRL output power and the non-linear tuning rate (variable from ≈70-40 MHz/gauss) over a single axial mode show plane-wave cavity theory to be inadequate. These effects can be explained by considering gain controlled refraction induced by a pump beam of gaussian profile. The near resonant dispersion of the refractive index of InSb is inferred from a measurement of the spacing between adjacent peaks in the SFRL output.  相似文献

Transmission and reflection coefficients have been calculated for surface polaritons crossing in interferometer on a metal surface. Two kinds of interference phenomena have been described. The results of the analysis of the stability of stationary solutions of wave equations discribing a behavior of the nonlinear Fabry-Perot interferometer with a saturated paramagnetic filling are presented in this paper. The cases when paramagnetic medium is characterized by a homogeneously and nonhomogeneously broadened line of the magnetic resonance have been considered. Areas of unstable behavior of these characteristics of the resonance structure have been found.  相似文献
