Magnetization and susceptibility were investigated as a function of temperature and magnetic field in polycrystalline Mn[Cr0.5Ga1.5]S4 spinel. The dc susceptibility measurements at 919 Oe showed a disordered ferrimagnetic behaviour with a Curie-Weiss temperature θCW=−55 K and an effective magnetic moment of 5.96 μB close to the spin-only value of 6.52 μB for Cr3+ and Mn2+ ions in the 3d3 and 3d5 configurations, respectively. The magnetization measured at 100 Oe revealed the multiple magnetic transitions with a sharp maximum at the Néel temperature TN=3.9 K, a minimum at the Yafet-Kittel temperature TYK=5 K, a broad maximum at the freezing temperature Tf=7.9 K, and an inflection point at the Curie temperature TC=48 K indicating a transition to paramagnetic phase. A large splitting between the zero-field-cooled (ZFC) and field-cooled (FC) magnetizations at a temperature smaller than TC suggests the presence of spin-glass-like behaviour. This behaviour is considered in a framework of competing interactions between the antiferromagnetic ordering of the A(Mn) sublattice and the ferromagnetic ordering of the B(Cr) sublattice.  相似文献

Temperature and field-dependent magnetization measurements on polycrystalline CeMnCuSi2 reveal that the Mn moments in this compound exhibit ordering with a ferromagnetic (FM) component ordered instead of the previously reported purely antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering. The FM ordering temperature, Tc, is about 120 K and almost unchanged with external fields up to 50 kOe. Furthermore, an AFM component (such as in a canted spin structure) is observed to be present in this phase, and its orientation is modified rapidly by the external magnetic field. The Ce L3-edge X-ray absorption result shows that the Ce ions in this compound are nearly trivalent, very similar to that in the heavy fermion system CeCu2Si2. Large thermomagnetic irreversibility is observed between the zero-field-cooled (ZFC) and field-cooled (FC) M(T) curves below Tc indicating strong magnetocrystalline anisotropy in the ordered phase. At 5 K, a metamagnetic-type transition is observed to occur at a critical field of about 8 kOe, and this critical field decreases with increasing temperature. The FM ordering of the Mn moments in CeMnCuSi2 is consistent with the value of the intralayer Mn–Mn distance RaMn–Mn=2.890 Å, which is greater than the critical value 2.865 Å for FM ordering. Finally, a magnetic phase diagram is constructed for CeMnCuSi2.  相似文献

A study of the half-metallic character of the semi Heusler alloys Co1−xCuxMnSb (0?x?0.9) is presented. We investigated the saturation magnetization MS at temperatures from 5 K to room temperature and the temperature dependence of the DC magnetic susceptibility χ above Curie temperature TC. The magnetic moments at 5 K, for most compositions are very close to the quantized value of 4 μB for Mn3+ ion, the compound with 90% Co substituted by Cu is still ferromagnetic with MS (5 K)=3.78 μB/f.u. These results emphasize the role of Co atoms in maintaining the ferromagnetic order in the material. The Curie temperature is decreased from 476 K to about 300 K as the Cu content increases from 0% to 90%. Above TC, the χ−1 vs T curves follow very well the Curie–Weiss law. The effective moment μeff and paramagnetic Curie temperature θ are derived. A comparison between the values of MS at 5 K and μeff shows a transition from localized to itinerant spin system in these compounds.  相似文献

Samples of Mn-oxide nanoparticles dispersed in an amorphous SiO2 matrix with manganese concentration 0.7 and 3 at% have been synthesized by a sol-gel method. Transmission electron microscopy analysis has shown that the samples contain agglomerates of amorphous silica particles 10-20 nm in size. In silica matrix two types of Mn-rich particles are dispersed, smaller nanoparticles with dimensions between 3 and 10 nm, and larger crystalline areas consisting of aggregates of the smaller nanoparticles. High-temperature magnetic susceptibility study reveals that dominant magnetic phase at higher temperatures is λ-MnO2. At temperatures below TC=43 K strong ferrimagnetism originating from the minor Mn3O4 phase masks the relatively weak magnetism of λ-MnO2 with antiferromagnetic interactions. Magnetic field dependence of the maximum in the zero-field-cooled magnetization for both the samples in the vicinity of 40 K, and a frequency shift of the real component of the ac magnetic susceptibility in the sample with 3 at% Mn suggest that the magnetic moments of the smaller Mn3O4 nanoparticles with dimensions below 10 nm are exposed to thermally activated blocking process just below the Curie temperature TC. Appearance of a maximum in the zero-field-cooled magnetization for both the samples below 10 K indicates possible spin glass freezing of the magnetic moments at low temperatures which might occur in the geometrically frustrated Mn sublattice of the λ-MnO2 crystal structure.  相似文献

In this work the Mn5Si3 and Mn5SiB2 phases were produced via arc melting and heat treatment at 1000 °C for 50 h under argon. A detailed microstructure characterization indicated the formation of single-phase Mn5Si3 and near single-phase Mn5SiB2 microstructures. The magnetic behavior of the Mn5Si3 phase was investigated and the results are in agreement with previous data from the literature, which indicates the existence of two anti-ferromagnetic structures for temperatures below 98 K. The Mn5SiB2 phase shows a ferromagnetic behavior presenting a saturation magnetization Ms of about 5.35×105 A/m (0.67 T) at room temperature and an estimated Curie temperature between 470 and 490 K. In addition, AC susceptibility data indicates no evidence of any other magnetic ordering in 4-300 K temperature range. The magnetization values are smaller than that calculated using the magnetic moment from previous literature NMR results. This result suggests a probable ferrimagnetic arrangement of the Mn moments.  相似文献

We carefully studied the nonsuperconducting sample of the magneto-superconducting RuSr2(Eu1−xCex)Cu2O10−δ series with composition RuSr2EuCeCu2O10−δ. This compound seems to exhibit a complex magnetic state as revealed by host of techniques like resistivity, thermopower, magnetic susceptibility, and MR measurements. The studied compound exhibited ferromagnetic like M(H) loops at 5, 20, and 50 K, and semiconductor like electrical conduction down to 5 K, with −MR7 T of up to 4% at low temperatures. The −MR7 T decreases fast above 150 K and monotonically becomes close to zero above say 230 K. Below, 150 K −MR7 T decreases to around 3% monotonically down to 75 K, with further increase to 4% at around 30 K and lastly having a slight decrease below this temperature. The thermopower S(T) behavior closely followed the −MR7 T steps in terms of d(S/T)/dT slopes. Further, both MR7 T steps and d(S/T)/dT slopes are found in close vicinity to various magnetic ordering temperatures (Tmag) of this compound.  相似文献

Magnetic susceptibility, heat capacity and electrical resistivity measurements have been carried out on a new ruthenate, La2RuO5 (monoclinic, space group P21/c) which reveal that this compound is a magnetic semiconductor with a high magnetic ordering temperature of 170 K. The entropy associated with the magnetic transition is 8.3 J/mol K close to that expected for the low spin (S=1) state of Ru4+ ions. The low temperatures specific heat coefficient γ is found to be nearly zero consistent with the semiconducting nature of the compound. The magnetic ordering temperature of La2RuO5 is comparable to the highest known Curie temperature of another ruthenate, namely, metallic SrRuO3, and in both these compounds the nominal charge state of Ru is 4+.  相似文献

Magnetoelastic properties of the Pr6Fe11Ga3 alloy are studied by magnetostriction and thermal expansion measurements. The effects of short- and long-range magnetic ordering processes about Curie temperature clearly appear in the temperature dependence of the spontaneous magnetostriction as two increasing steps with decreasing temperatures. Thermal variations of the total magnetocrystalline anisotropy introduce pronounce changes in the isofield curves of the forced magnetostriction as a negative minimum below 200 K, a compensation phenomena about 250 K, and a positive maximum between 250 K and Tc=320 K. The observed behavior of magnetostriction is discussed in terms of the competitive anisotropies of Pr and Fe sublattices and coupling magnetostrictive constants.  相似文献

The Ruddlesden–Popper (RP) phase compounds (Sr0.95R0.05)3Ti2O7 (R=Er, Y, Dy, Gd, Eu, Sm, Nd and La) were prepared, and their transport and thermoelectric properties were investigated. The results indicate that high-T electrical resistivity ρ (300 K<T<1000 K) increases monotonically with temperature and basically has a relation ρTM, with M varying from 0.91 to 1.92 at temperatures T>~650 K, suggesting acoustic phonon scattering is dominant. At low temperatures (5 K<T<300 K), ρ for (Sr0.95R0.05)3Ti2O7 (R=Nd and La) decreases monotonously with decreasing temperature, whereas ρ for (Sr0.95R0.05)3Ti2O7 (R=Er, Y, Dy, Gd, Eu and Sm) decreases first, and then increases instead as T decreases to a critical temperature Tc. Moreover, electrical conductivity σT1/2 holds at lower temperatures, indicating that the electron–electron interaction caused by the presence of disorder dominates the transport process at the low temperatures. Besides, experiments show that at T<~400 K the lattice thermal conductivity of the doped compounds basically decreases with increase of the atomic mass of dopants. Generally, the figure of merit (ZT) at 1000 K increases first, and then decreases with the increase of the dopants' ionic radius, and the largest ZT is achieved in (Sr0.95Gd0.05)3Ti2O7 mainly owing to its lower lattice thermal conductivity.  相似文献

The influences of boron addition on the phase formation, Curie temperature and magnetic entropy change of the NaZn13-type La(Fe0.9Si0.1)13 compound have been investigated. Eight boron containing La(Fe0.9Si0.1)13Bx samples were prepared with x=0, 0.03, 0.06, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.5 and 0.6, respectively. Experimental results show that a small amount of B addition in La(Fe0.9Si0.1)13 forms the solid solution NaZn13-type structure phase by substituting B for Si or doping B into interstitial position of the lattice, preserves its giant magnetocaloric effects due to their first-order structural/magnetic transition, as well as increase its Curie temperature Tc slightly. The maximum magnetic entropy changes in the magnetic field change of 0–1.6 T are around 20 J kg–1 K–1 for the samples with Boron addition less than 0.3, while improving the Curie temperatures by 2 K.  相似文献

We synthesized the Mn-doped Mg(In2−xMnx)O4 oxides with 0.03?x?0.55 using a solid-state reaction method. The X-ray diffraction patterns of the samples were in a good agreement with that of a distorted orthorhombic spinel phase. Their lattice parameters and unit-cell volumes decrease with x due to the substitution of the smaller Mn3+ ions to the larger In3+ ions. The undoped MgIn2O4 oxide presents diamagnetic signals for 5 K?T?300 K. The M(H) at T=300 K reveals a fairly negative-sloped linear relationship. Neither magnetic hysteresis nor saturation behavior was observed in this parent sample. For the Mn-doped samples, however, positive magnetization were observed between 5 and 300 K even if the x value is as low as 0.03. The mass susceptibility enhances with Mn content and it reaches the highest value of 1.4×10−3 emu/g Oe (at T=300 K) at x=0.45. Furthermore, the Mn-doped oxides with x=0.06 and 0.2, respectively, exhibit nonlinear magnetization curves and small hysteretic loops in low magnetic fields. Susceptibilities of the Mn-doped samples are much higher than those of MnO2, Mn2O3 oxides, and Mn metals. These results show that the oxides have potential to be magnetic semiconductors.  相似文献

The structural, magnetic and transport properties of the antiperovskite AlCxMn3 (1.0≤x≤1.4) are investigated. It is found that the lattice parameter a increases monotonously with nominal carbon concentration x. The Curie temperature TC increases with increasing x from 1.0 to 1.1 and then decreases with further increasing x. The highest TC value is 364 K, about 70 K higher than that of stoichiometric AlCMn3 reported previously. This may be attributed to a competition between the lattice expansion and the strong Mn 3d-C 2p hybridization. Below 100 K, the resistivity can be well described as ρ(T)=ρ0+AT2, corresponding to the electron-electron scattering. A increases with x, suggesting certain changes in the electronic structure, e.g. carrier density. Above 250 K, all ρ(T) curves depart from the linear dependence on temperature and seem to take on a tendency towards saturation.  相似文献

Results of the thermoelectric power (TEP) measurements done on monocrystalline samples of RESn3 compounds (RE=La, Pr, Nd, and Gd) are presented for the temperature range of 5.5-300 K. It was found that the TEP is positive and weakly temperature dependent at temperatures T>100 K. For T<100 K pronounced anomalies have been observed for the PrSn3 and the NdSn3 compounds in the vicinity of 10 K.We argue that the Kondo and crystal field effects cause these anomalies. A shape of the TEP anomaly found for PrSn3 resembles very much that observed in the electrical resistivity.  相似文献

The 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy of mononuclear [Fe(II)(isoxazole)6](ClO4)2 has been studied to reveal the thermal spin crossover of Fe(II) between low-spin (S=0) and high-spin (S=2) states. Temperature-dependent spin transition curves have been constructed with the least-square fitted data obtained from the Mössbauer spectra measured at various temperatures between 84 and 270 K during a cooling and heating cycle. This compound exhibits an unusual temperature-dependent spin transition behaviour with TC(↓)=223 and TC(↑)=213 K occurring in the reverse order in comparison to those observed in SQUID observation and many other spin transition compounds. The compound has three high-spin Fe(II) sites at the highest temperature of study of which two undergo spin transitions. The compound seems to undergo a structural phase transition around the spin transition temperature, which plays a significant role in the spin crossover behaviour as well as the magnetic properties of the compound at temperatures below TC. The present study reveals an increase in high-spin fraction upon heating in the temperature range below TC, and an explanation is provided.  相似文献

The needle shape single crystals Co3−x MnxO2BO3 with ludwigite structure have been prepared. According to the X-ray diffraction data the preferable character of distinct crystallographic positions occupation by Mn ions is established. Magnetization field and temperature dependencies are measured. Paramagnetic Curie temperature value Θ=−100 K points out the predominance of antiferromagnetic interactions. Spin-glass magnetic ordering takes the onset at TN=41 K. The crystallographic and magnetic properties of Co3O2BO3:Mn are compared with the same for the isostructural analogs Co3O2BO3 and CoO2BO3:Fe.  相似文献

We have investigated the magnetic and dielectric properties of polycrystalline samples of the spinel MnCr2O4. Below the ferrimagnetic ordering temperature at TN∼43 K, both magnetization and dielectric measurements show signatures of the onset of a conical structure at Ts∼17 K and a lock-in temperature at Tf∼14 K. These values are similar to those previously reported for single-crystal samples, where the spiral structure is short-range ordered (SRO) at low temperatures. The application of magnetic field suppresses the dielectric anomaly at Tf indicating that the coherence length of the ordering increases. MnCr2O4 exhibits a symmetrical magnetodielectric response between Tf and Ts that scales with the square of the magnetization. This suggests that the magnetodielectric coupling originates from the P2M2 term in the free energy expansion. The magnetodielectric response becomes asymmetric with respect to field below Tf.  相似文献

The La1.32Sr1.68Mn2O7 layered manganite system has been studied by the low temperature electrical resistance and magnetoresistance under hydrostatic pressure up to 25 kbar. We have observe both, a Curie temperature (TC) and a metal-insulator transition (TMI) at 118 K in the ambient pressure. The applied pressure shifts the TMI to higher temperature values and induces a second metal-insulator transition (T2MI) at 90 K, in the temperature dependence of resistivity measurements. Also, the pressure suppresses the peak resistance abruptly at TC. When an external field of 5 T is applied, we have observed a large negative magnetoresistance of 300% at the transition temperature and a 128% at 4.5 K. However, the increased pressure decreases the magnetoresistance ratio gradually. When the pressure reaches its maximum available value of 25 kbar, the magnetoresistance ratio decreases at a rate of 1.3%/kbar. From our experimental results, the decrease of magnetoresistance ratio with pressure is explained by the pressure induced canted spin state which is not favor for the spin polarized intergrain tunneling in layered manganites.  相似文献

Magnetic properties and magnetic entropy change ΔS were investigated in Heusler alloy Ni43Mn43Co3Sn11. With decreasing temperature this alloy undergoes a martensitic structural transition at TM=188 K. The incorporation of Co atoms enhances ferromagnetic exchange for parent phases. Austenitic phase with cubic structure shows strong ferromagnetic behaviors with Curie temperature TCA at 346 K, while martensitic phase shows weak ferromagnetic properties. An external magnetic field can shift TM to a lower temperature at a rate of 4.4 K/T, and a field-induced structural transition from martensitic to austenitic state takes place at temperatures near but below TM. As a result, a great magnetic entropy change with positive sign appears. The size of ΔS reaches 33 J/kg K under 5 T magnetic field. More important is that the ΔS displays a table-like peak under 5 T, which is favorable for Ericsson-type refrigerators.  相似文献

Temperature dependence of conduction noise and low field magnetoresistance of layered manganite La1.4Ca1.6Mn2O7 (DLCMO) are reported and compared with the infinite layered manganite La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 (LCMO). The double layered manganite was prepared using standard solid state reaction method and had a metal-insulator transition temperature (TM-I) of 155 K. The temperature dependence of susceptibility showed evolution of ferromagnetic ordering at 168 K. The observed voltage noise spectral density (SV) shows 1/fα type of behaviour at all temperatures from 77 K to 300 K. In the ferromagnetic region (T<168 K), SV/V2 shows two peaks at 164 K and 114 K. The observed two peaks in normalised conduction noise of DLCMO is attributed to the excess noise generated due to setting up of short range 2D-ferromagnetic ordering and long range 3D-ferromagnetic ordering at two different temperatures TC2 and TC1. In temperature range between TC1 and TC2, the magnetoresistance (MR) showed a gradual increase with the magnetic field. The observed MR has been explained in the framework of the two phase model [ferromagnetic (FM) domains and paramagnetic (PM) regions].  相似文献

Considering certain interesting features in the previously reported 166Er Mössbauer effect, and neutron diffraction data on the polycrystalline form of ErPd2Si2 crystallizing in the ThCr2Si2-type tetragonal structure, we have carried out magnetic measurements (1.8–300 K) on the single crystalline form of this compound. We observe significant anisotropy in the absolute values of magnetization (indicating that the easy axis is c-axis) as well as in features due to magnetic ordering in the plot of magnetic susceptibility χ versus temperature T at low temperatures. The χ(T) data reveal that there is a pseudo-low-dimensional magnetic order setting in at 4.8 K, with a three-dimensional antiferromagnetic order setting in at a lower temperature (3.8 K). A new finding in the χ(T) data is that, for H∥〈1 1 0〉 but not for H∥〈0 0 1〉, there is a broad shoulder in the range 8–20 K, indicative of the existence of magnetic correlations above 5 K as well, which could be related to the previously reported slow-relaxation-dominated Mössbauer spectra. Interestingly, the temperature coefficient of electrical resistivity is found to be isotropic; no feature due to magnetic ordering could be detected in the electrical resistivity data at low temperatures, which is attributed to magnetic Brillioun-zone boundary gap effects. The results reveal the complex nature of magnetism of this compound.  相似文献
