The effect of inhomogeneity of nonlinear medium is discussed concerning the stability of standing waves ei ω tϕω(x) for a nonlinear Schr?dinger equation with an inhomogeneous nonlinearity V (x)|u|p − 1u, where V (x) is proportional to the electron density. Here, ω > 0 and ϕω(x) is a ground state of the stationary problem. When V (x) behaves like |x|b at infinity, where 0 < b < 2, we show that ei ω tϕω(x) is stable for p < 1 + (4 − 2b)/n and sufficiently small ω > 0. The main point of this paper is to analyze the linearized operator at standing wave solution for the case of V (x) = |x|b. Then, this analysis yields a stability result for the case of more general, inhomogeneous V (x) by a certain perturbation method. We consider the Riemann–Hilbert problem in the following setting: find a function whose boundary values ϕ+(t) satisfy the condition a.e. on Γ. Here D is a simply connected domain bounded by a simple closed curve Γ, and K p( · )(D;ω) is the set of functions ϕ(z) representable in the form , where ω(z) is a weight function and (K Γφ )(z) is a Cauchy type integral whose density φ is integrable with a variable exponent p(t). It is assumed that Γ is a piecewise-Lyapunov curve without zero angles, ω(z) is an arbitrary power function and p(t) satisfies the Log-H?lder condition. The solvability conditions are established and solutions are constructed. These solutions largely depend on the coefficients a, b, c, the weight ω, on the values of p(t) at the angular points of Γ and on the values of angles at these points. Submitted: May 13, 2007. We prove theorems on interpolation of quasilinear operators of weak type (ϕ0, ψ0, ϕ0, ψ1) in Lorentz spaces. We consider the periodic boundary-value problem u tt u xx = g(x, t), u(0, t) = u(π, t) = 0, u(x, t + ω) = u(x, t). By representing a solution of this problem in the form u(x, t) = u 0(x, t) + ũ(x, t), where u 0(x, t) is a solution of the corresponding homogeneous problem and ũ(x, t) is the exact solution of the inhomogeneous equation such that ũ(x, t + ω) u x = ũ(x, t), we obtain conditions for the solvability of the inhomogeneous periodic boundary-value problem for certain values of the period ω. In this paper the Euler operator Δ E is defined as the sum , where ∂ i stands for the differential operatorD e i. It is shown that Δ E is the infinitesimal generator of the semigroup (T t ), where (T t ϕ)(x)=ϕ(e t x) for ϕ∈(S). Similarly to the finite dimensional case, the λ-order homogeneous test functionals are characterized by the Euler equation: Δ ϕ. The aim of this paper is to study this chain in terms of the measure μ appearing in the Nevanlinna representation of ϕ˜(ω). We prove in particular three results. If x 2 is integrable by μ, a law of large numbers is available. If μ is singular, i.e. if ϕ˜ is an inner function, then the operator P on L (ℝ) for the Lebesgue measure is the adjoint of T defined on L 1(ℝ) by T(f)(ω) = f(ϕ(ω)), where ϕ is the restriction of ϕ˜ to ℝ. Finally, if μ is both singular and with compact support, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for recurrence of the chain. Multiscale stochastic homogenization is studied for convection-diffusion problems. We consider the properties of a random set ϕ t (ℝ + d ), where ϕ t (x) is a solution of a stochastic differential equation in ℝ + d with normal reflection from the boundary that starts from a point x. For a continuous, increasing function ω: R → R \{0} of finite exponential type, this paper introduces the set Z(A, ω) of all x in a Banach space X for which the second order abstract differential equation (2) has a mild solution such that [ω(t)]-1u(t,x) is uniformly continues on R , and show that Z(A, ω) is a maximal Banach subspace continuously embedded in X, where A ∈ B(X) is closed. Given a graph G with characteristic polynomial ϕ(t), we consider the ML-decomposition ϕ(t) = q 1(t)q 2(t)2 ... q m (t)m, where each q i (t) is an integral polynomial and the roots of ϕ(t) with multiplicity j are exactly the roots of q j (t). We give an algorithm to construct the polynomials q i (t) and describe some relations of their coefficients with other combinatorial invariants of G. In particular, we get new bounds for the energy E(G) = |λi| of G, where λ1, λ2, ..., λn are the eigenvalues of G (with multiplicity). Most of the results are proved for the more general situation of a Hermitian matrix whose characteristic polynomial has integral coefficients. Zusammenfassung  We prove here three results in chain: the result of Section 2 is a symmetry property of the higher Lie characters ofS n (which are indexed by partitions) : their character table is essentially symmetric, up to well-known factors. This is established using plethystic methods in the algebra of symmetric functions. In Section 3, we show that for any elements ϕ,ωof the Solomon descent algebra ofS n , one hasc( ϕ)) =c(ω ϕ), wherec is the Solomon mapping from this algebra to the space of central functions onS n (implicitly extended to its group algebra). We address also the question whether this is true for each finite Coxeter group. Then in the last section, we deduce a new proof of a result of Gessel and the second author that gives the number of permutations with given cycle type and descent set as scalar product of two special characters.  相似文献
