The electronic structure of polycrystalline ferromagnetic Zn1−xCoxO (0.05≤x≤0.15) and the oxidation state of Co in it, have been investigated. The Co-doped polycrystalline samples are synthesized by a combustion method and are ferromagnetic at room temperature. XPS and optical absorption studies show evidence for Co2+ ions in the tetrahedral symmetry, indicating substitution of Co2+ in the ZnO lattice. However, powder XRD and electron diffraction data show the presence of Co metal in the samples. This give evidence to the fact that some Co2+ ion are incorporated in the ZnO lattice which gives changes in the electronic structure whereas ferromagnetism comes from the Co metal impurities present in the samples.  相似文献

Zn1−xCoxO nanocrystals with nominal Co doping concentrations of x = 0–0.1 were synthesized through a simple solution route followed by a calcining process. The doping effects on the structural, morphological and optical properties were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Raman, absorption and luminescence spectroscopy. The results indicated that a small amount of Co ions were incorporated into ZnO lattice structure, whereas the secondary phase of Co3O4 was segregated and precipitated at high Co doping concentrations, the solid solubility of Co ions in ZnO nanocrystals could be lower than 0.05. The spectra related to transitions within the tetrahedral Co2+ ions in the ZnO host crystal were observed in absorption and luminescence spectra.  相似文献

We present X‐ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy studies of Ni‐doped ZnO (Zn1−xNixO, x = 0.0, 0.03, 0.06, and 0.10) ceramics prepared by solid‐state reaction technique. The presence of the secondary phase along with the wurtzite phase is observed in Ni‐doped ZnO samples. The E2(low) optical phonon mode is seen to be shifted to a lower wavenumber with Ni incorporation in ZnO and is explained on the basis of force‐constant variation of ZnO bond with Ni incorporation. A zone boundary phonon is observed in Ni‐doped samples at ∼130 cm−1 which is normally forbidden in the first‐order Raman scattering of ZnO. Antiferromagnetic ordering between Ni atoms via spin‐orbit mechanism at low temperatures (100 K) is held responsible for the observed zone boundary phonon. Polycrystalline Zn1−xCoxO (x=0, 0.02, 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15) oxides have been synthesized by solid state reaction via sintering ZnO and Co powders in open air. X-ray diffraction analyses using Rietveld refinement indicate that a stoichiometric single phase with a wurtzite-like structure was found in Zn1−xCoxO samples with x up to 0.10. The elemental mapping using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopic analyses presents a uniform distribution of Co. Optical transmittance measurements show that several extra absorption bands appear in the Co-doped ZnO, which is due to the transitions between the crystal-field-split 3d levels of tetrahedral Co2+ substituting Zn2+ ions. Raman measurements show that limited host lattice defects are induced by Co doping. Magnetization measurements reveal that the Co-doped ZnO samples are paramagnetic due to the absence of free carriers and in low temperature the dominant magnetic interaction is nearest-neighbor antiferromagnetic.  相似文献

In this work, Ni-doped ZnO (Zn1−xNixO, x=0, 0.03, 0.06, 0.11) films were prepared using magnetron sputtering. X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), temperature dependence electrical resistance, Hall and magnetic measurements were utilized in order to study the properties of the Ni-doped ZnO films. XRD and XAS results indicate that all the samples have a ZnO wurtzite structure and Ni atoms incorporated into ZnO host matrix without forming any secondary phase. The Hall and electrical resistance measurements revealed that the resistivity increased by Ni doping, and all the Ni-doped ZnO films exhibited n-type semiconducting behavior. The magnetic measurements showed that for the samples with x=0.06 and 0.11 are room-temperature ferromagnetic having a saturation magnetization of 0.33 and 0.39 μB/Ni, respectively. The bound-magnetic-polaron mediated exchange is proposed to be the possible mechanism for the room-temperature ferromagnetism in this work.  相似文献

Single-phase Zn1−xCoxO (x=0.02, 0.04) powders were synthesized by a simple co-precipitation technique. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the Co-doped ZnO crystallizes in a wurtzite structure. The lattice constants of Co-doped ZnO powders decrease slightly when Co is doped into ZnO. Optical absorption spectra show a decrease in the bandgap with increasing Co content and also give an evidence of the presence of Co2+ ions in tetrahedral sites. Raman spectra indicate that Co doping increased the lattice defects and induced another Raman vibration mode around at 538 cm−1, which is an indicator for the incorporation of Co2+ ions into the ZnO host matrix. Magnetic measurement reveals that the Zn1−xCoxO (x=0.02, 0.04) powders clearly exhibit room-temperature ferromagnetic behavior, which makes them potentially useful as building components for spintronics.  相似文献

Phase pure Zn1?x Co x O thin films grown by pulsed laser deposition have transmittance greater than 75 % in the visible region. Raman studies confirm the crystalline nature of Zn1?x Co x O thin films. Zn0.95Co0.05O thin films show room temperature ferromagnetism with saturation magnetization of 0.4μ B /Co atom. The possible origin of paramagnetism at higher Co doping concentrations can be attributed to the increased nearest-neighbor antiferromagnetic interactions between Co2+ ions in ZnO matrix. XPS confirms the substitution of Co2+ ions into the ZnO host lattice.  相似文献

The effect of Ni interlayer on stress level of cobalt silicides was investigated. The X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD) show that low temperature formation of Co1−xNixSi2 solid solution was obtained while Ni interlayer was present in Co/Si system, which was confirmed by Auger electron spectrum (AES) and sheet resistance measurement. XRD was also used to measure the internal stress in CoSi2 films by a 2θψ − sin2ψ method. The result shows that the tensile stress in CoSi2 films evidently decreased in Co/Ni/Si(1 0 0) system. The reduction of lattice mismatch, due to the presence of Ni in CoxNi1−xSi2 solid solution, is proposed to explain this phenomenon.  相似文献

Co-substituted NiZn ferrite thin films, Ni0.5Zn0.5CoxFe2−xO4 (0≤x≤0.2), were synthesized by the sol-gel process. The structure and magnetic properties of Ni0.5Zn0.5CoxFe2−xO4 ferrite thin films have been investigated. The diffraction peak shifted towards the lower angle and the lattice parameter increased with Co substitution. There is little influence of Co substitution on the microstructure of NiZn ferrite thin films. The saturation magnetization gradually increases with the increase in Co substitution when x≤0.10, and decreases when x>0.10. Meanwhile, the coercivity initially decreases with the increase in Co substitution when x≤0.10, and increases when x>0.10.  相似文献

The initial growth and alloy formation of ultrathin Co films deposited on 1 ML Ni/Pt(1 1 1) were investigated by Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), low energy electron diffraction (LEED), and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). A sequence of samples of dCo Co/1 ML Ni/Pt(1 1 1) (dCo = 1, 2, and 3 ML) were prepared at room temperature, and then heated up to investigate the diffusion process. The Co and Ni atoms intermix at lower annealing temperature, and Co-Ni intermixing layer diffuses into the Pt substrate to form Ni-Co-Pt alloys at higher annealing temperature. The diffusion temperatures are Co coverage dependent. The evolution of UPS with annealing temperatures also shows the formation of surface alloys. Some interesting LEED patterns of 1 ML Co/1 ML Ni/Pt(1 1 1) show the formation of ordered alloys at different annealing temperature ranges. Further studies in the Curie temperature and concentration analysis, show that the ordered alloys corresponding to different LEED patterns are NixCo1−xPt and NixCo1−xPt3. The relationship between the interface structure and magnetic properties was investigated.  相似文献

M-type hexaferrites with Co2+ and Ni2+ions substituting for Fe3+ ions (Ca0.30Sr0.35La0.35Fe12.0−x(Co0.5Ni0.5)xO19, 0.0 ≤ x ≤ 1.0) were prepared by the traditional solid state method. X-ray diffractometer (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), physical property measurement system-vibrating sample magnetometer (PPMS-VSM) have been employed to study the microstructures and magnetic properties of hexaferrites. XRD patterns showed that the single magnetoplumbite phase is obtained if Co–Ni content (x) ≤ 0.4 and impurity phases are observed in the structure when Co–Ni content (x) ≥ 0.4. FE-SEM micrographs showed that the hexaferrites with hexagonal platelet-like grains is obtained. The saturation magnetization (Ms), remanent magnetization (Mr), Mr/Ms ratio, magneton number (nB), coercivity (Hc), magnetic anisotropy field (Ha) and first anisotropy constant (K1) decrease with increasing Co–Ni content (x) from 0.0 to 1.0. And our reported results with tunable Hc and Mr can be used for recording applications.  相似文献

Synthesis and characterization of Ni-Zn ferrite nanoparticles   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Nickel zinc ferrite nanoparticles NixZn1−xFe2O4 (x=0.1, 0.3, 0.5) have been synthesized by a chemical co-precipitation method. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance, dc magnetization and ac susceptibility measurements. The X-ray diffraction patterns confirm the synthesis of single crystalline NixZn1−xFe2O4 nanoparticles. The lattice parameter decreases with increase in Ni content resulting in a reduction in lattice strain. Similarly crystallite size increases with the concentration of Ni. The magnetic measurements show the superparamagnetic nature of the samples for x=0.1 and 0.3 whereas for x=0.5 the material is ferromagnetic. The saturation magnetization is 23.95 emu/g and increases with increase in Ni content. The superparamagnetic nature of the samples is supported by the EPR and ac susceptibility measurement studies. The blocking temperature increases with Ni concentration. The increase in blocking temperature is explained by the redistribution of the cations on tetrahedral (A) and octahedral (B) sites.  相似文献

Synthesis by arc melting, the structural and the electric properties of Y(Co1−xNix)2 alloys were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and four probe dc electrical measurements. XRD analysis (300 K) shows that all samples crystallize in a cubic MgCu2-type structure. The lattice parameters linearly decrease with Ni content. Electrical resistivity for the Y(Co1−xNix)2 intermetallic series was measured in a temperature range of 15-1100 K. The parameters involved in the dependence of resistivity on temperature were determined. Residual, phonon and spin fluctuations resistivity were separated from electrical resistivity using both the Matthiesen formula and the Bloch-Gruneisen formula. The spin fluctuations resistivity of the Y(Co1−xNix)2 series are compared to the mean square amplitudes of spin fluctuations previously calculated by the Linear Muffin Tin Orbital-Tight Binding Approach method for these series in the literature. The contribution of spin fluctuations to total resistivity ρsf is proportional to T2 at low temperatures. The proportionality parameter strongly reduces across the Y(Co1−xNix)2 series.  相似文献

Modifications in the structural and optical properties of 100 MeV Ni7+ ions irradiated cobalt doped ZnO thin films (Zn1−xCoxO, x = 0.05) prepared by sol-gel route were studied. The films irradiated with a fluence of 1 × 1013 ions/cm2 were single phase and show improved crystalline structure with preferred C-axis orientation as revealed from XRD analysis. Effects of irradiation on bond structure of thin films were studied by FTIR spectroscopy. The spectrum shows no change in bonding structure of Zn-O after irradiation. Improved quality of films is further supported by FTIR studies. Optical properties of the pristine and irradiated samples have been determined by using UV-vis spectroscopic technique. Optical absorption spectra show an appreciable red shift in the band gap of irradiated Zn1−xCoxO thin film due to sp-d interaction between Co2+ ions and ZnO band electrons. Transmission spectra show absorption band edges at 1.8 eV, 2.05 eV and 2.18 eV corresponding to d-d transition of Co2+ ions in tetrahedral field of ZnO. The AFM study shows a slight increase in grain size and surface roughness of the thin films after irradiation.  相似文献

Zn1−xCoxO (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.15) thin films grown on Si (1 0 0) substrates were prepared by a sol-gel technique. The effects of Co doped on the structural, optical properties and surface chemical valence states of the Zn1−xCoxO (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.15) films were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet-visible spectrometer and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). XRD results show that the Zn1−xCoxO films retained a hexagonal crystal structure of ZnO with better c-axis preferred orientation compared to the undoped ZnO films. The optical absorption spectra suggest that the optical band-gap of the Zn1−xCoxO thin films varied from 3.26 to 2.79 eV with increasing Co content from x = 0 to x = 0.15. XPS studies show the possible oxidation states of Co in Zn1−xCoxO (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.05), Zn0.90Co0.10O and Zn0.85Co0.15O are CoO, Co3O4 and Co2O3, with an increase of Co content, respectively.  相似文献

Nickel-doped ZnO (Zn1−xNixO) have been produced using rf magnetron sputtering. X-ray diffraction measurements revealed that nickel atoms were successfully incorporated into ZnO host matrix without forming any detectable secondary phase. Ni 2p core-level photoemission spectroscopy confirmed this result and suggested Ni has a chemical valence of 2+. According to the magnetization measurements, no ferromagnetic but paramagnetic behavior was found for Zn0.86Ni0.14O. We studied the electronic structure of Zn0.86Ni0.14O by valence-band photoemission spectroscopy. The spectra demonstrate a structure at ∼2 eV below the Fermi energy EF, which is of Ni 3d origin. No emission was found at EF, suggesting the insulating nature of the film.  相似文献

The Raman spectra of sol–gel derived Co‐doped ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) in the spectral range 100–1500 cm−1 were investigated. In the sol–gel method, three different series of Co‐doped ZnO particles, i.e. Zn1−xCoxO (x = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, and 0.20), were obtained using three different starting precursors, viz. cobalt chloride hexahydrate, cobalt acetate tetrahydrate, and cobalt nitrate hexahydrate, respectively. It has been observed that cobalt acetate is a better precursor in comparison to cobalt chloride and cobalt nitrate to obtain single‐phase Co‐doped ZnO NPs. As for cobalt acetate‐derived NPs, no hidden secondary phase of Co3O4 was observed for the lower (x = 0.05) Co concentration. The Fröhlich interaction associated with the longitudinal modes was found to be destroyed with increasing Co concentration due to structural disorder and defects induced by the dopant. In addition to ZnO and Co3O4 vibrational modes, a few additional modes near 550 and 715 cm−1 were also observed in all cases, which could be attributed to the modes due to Co doping in ZnO. Un-hydrogenated and hydrogenated Cu, Co co-doped ZnO (Zn0.96−xCo0.04CuxO, x=0.03, 0.04 and 0.05) nanopowders have been synthesized by co-precipitation method. The synthesized samples have been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectra, UV–Visible spectrophotometer and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The calculated average crystalline size increases from 37.3 to 50.6 nm for un-hydrogenated samples from x=0.03 to 0.05 and it changes from 29.4 to 34.9 nm for hydrogenated samples. The change in lattice parameters, micro-strain, a small shift of X-ray diffraction peaks towards lower angles and reduction in energy gap reveal the substitution of Cu2+ ions into Zn–Co–O lattice. The hydrogenation effect reduces the particle size and induces the more uniform distribution of particles than the un-hydrogenated samples which is confirmed by SEM micrographs. Photoluminescence spectra of Zn0.96−xCo0.04CuxO system shows that red shift in near band edge ultraviolet emission from 393 to 403 nm with suppressing intensity and a blue shift in green band emission from 537 to 529 nm with enhancing intensity confirms the substitution of Cu into the Zn–Co–O lattice.  相似文献

The erbium-based manganite ErMnO3 has been partially substituted at the manganese site by the transition-metal elements Ni and Co. The perovskite orthorhombic structure is found from x(Ni)=0.2–0.5 in the nickel-based solid solution ErNixMn1−xO3, while it can be extended up to x(Co)=0.7 in the case of cobalt, provided that the synthesis is performed under oxygenation conditions to favor the presence of Co3+. Presence of different magnetic entities (i.e., Er3+, Ni2+, Co2+, Co3+, Mn3+, and Mn4+) leads to quite unusual magnetic properties, characterized by the coexistence of antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic interactions. In ErNixMn1−xO3, a critical concentration xcrit(Ni)=1/3 separates two regimes: spin-canted AF interactions predominate at x<xcrit, while the ferromagnetic behavior is enhanced for x>xcrit. Spin reversal phenomena are present both in the nickel- and cobalt-based compounds. A phenomenological model based on two interacting sublattices, coupled by an antiferromagnetic exchange interaction, explains the inversion of the overall magnetic moment at low temperatures. In this model, the ferromagnetic transition-metal lattice, which orders at Tc, creates a strong local field at the erbium site, polarizing the Er moments in a direction opposite to the applied field. At low temperatures, when the contribution of the paramagnetic erbium sublattice, which varies as T−1, gets larger than the ferromagnetic contribution, the total magnetic moment changes its sign, leading to an overall ferrimagnetic state. The half-substituted compound ErCo0.50Mn0.50O3 was studied in detail, since the magnetization loops present two well-identified anomalies: an intersection of the magnetization branches at low fields, and magnetization jumps at high fields. The influence of the oxidizing conditions was studied in other compositions close to the 50/50=Mn/Co substitution rate. These anomalies are clearly connected to the spin inversion phenomena and to the simultaneous presence of Co2+ and Co3+ magnetic moments. Dynamical aspects should be considered to well identify the high-field anomaly, since it depends on the magnetic field sweep rate.  相似文献

Spectral studies of Co substituted Ni-Zn ferrites   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The spinel ferrites Zn0.35Ni0.65−xCoxFe2O4, 0≤x≤1, have been prepared using the standard ceramic technique. Room temperature Mössbauer, X-ray and infrared IR spectra were used for carrying out this study. X-ray patterns reveal that all the samples have single-phase cubic spinel structure. The Mössbauer spectra of the samples show a paramagnetic phase for x=0 and a six-line magnetic pattern and a central paramagnetic phase for x≥0.1. They are analyzed and attributed to two magnetic subpatterns and two quadrupole doublets due to Fe3+ ions at the tetrahedral A-sites and octahedral B-sites. Four absorption bands are observed in IR spectra. They confirm the spinel structure of the samples and existence of Fe3+ ions in the sample sublattices. The deduced hyperfine interactions, lattice parameters, absorption band positions and intensities and force constant are found to be dependent on the substitution factor x, where the cation distribution is estimated. The hyperfine magnetic fields, magnetization and lattice resonant frequency are found to be dependent on the interionic distance.  相似文献
