Both RuSr2GdCu2O8-δ (Ru-1212) and RuSr2Gd1.5Ce0.5Cu2O10-δ (Ru-1222) exhibits magnetism and superconductivity, as seen by magnetization vs. temperature behavior measured in 5 Oe field. Zero-field-cooled (ZFC) and field-cooled (FC) magnetization data show branching at around 140 K and 100 K with a cusp at 135 K and 80 K and a diamagnetic transition around 20 K and 30 K in the ZFC part, for Ru-1212 and Ru-1222, respectively. The isothermal magnetization possesses a non-linear contribution due to a ferromagnetic component at low temperatures below 50 K for both samples. The resistance vs. temperature behavior of the samples in applied fields of 0, 3 and 7 T confirmed superconductivity, with a different type of broadening of the superconductivity transition under magnetic fields for Ru-1212 from that known for conventional high-T c superconductors. The magnetoresistance (MR) is negative above the Ru magnetic ordering temperature at 135 K. Below the Ru magnetic ordering temperature, MR displays a positive peak at low fields and becomes negative at higher fields for Ru-1212. For Ru-1222, MR remains negative both above and below the ordering temperature. A maximum of 2% is observed for the negative MR value at the Ru magnetic ordering temperature. An electron diffraction pattern obtained for the Ru-1212 sample shows two types of superstructure: one has a weak spot at the centre of the a–b rectangle, and the other only along the b direction. Interestingly, Ru-1222 shows only clean a–b and a–c planes, without any superstructures.  相似文献

The nature of the double-exchange (DE) interaction in lanthanum manganites is studied through chemical substitutions, Cs for La, and high-pressure measurements. Static and high-frequency magnetic measurements and high-pressure electrical transport studies were carried out on bulk polycrystalline and radio-frequency sputtered thin films of La0.7-xCsxCa0.3MnO3 for x=0-0.1. The samples are found to be cubic. Curie temperature Tc measurements provide evidence for bond-length-related weakening of DE as x is increased from 0 to 0.03. For higher x, the bond-angle-related changes lead to an increase in the strength of DE. High-pressure mangetoresistance data indicate both bond length and bond-angle-related increase of 10–20 K/GPa in Tc with pressure, with the largest increase measured for x=0.03. The rate of increase in the Curie temperature with pressure decreases with increasing Tc. Anomalies are observed in the magnetic parameters for x=0.03. The Cs-concentration dependence of the low-temperature saturation magnetization shows a minimum close to x=0.03. Ferromagnetic resonance studies at x-band reveal a 5% decrease in the g-value for x=0.03 relative to the end members (x=0 and 0.1). The low-field magnetostriction for x=0.03 indicates a relatively strong electron–phonon spin coupling compared to neighboring compositions. Polycrystalline two-layered perovskite La2.5-xK0.5+xMn2O 7 + δ (0 < x < 0.5) samples have been prepared by a modified sol-gel method and their magnetoresistance and magnetocaloric effects have been studied. A large deviation between the metal-insulator (MI) transition temperature (T ρ ) and the magnetic transition temperature (TC) is observed. Large magnetoresistance (MR) effects with Δρ/ρ of 40% at 12 kOe are obtained in wide temperature ranges. The maximum of the magnetic entropy change peaks at its Curie temperature (TC), far above its MI transition temperature (T ρ ). The large magnetic entropy change (1.4 J/kg.K) is obtained in the sample La2.5-xK0.5+xMn2O 7 + δ (x = 0.35) upon 10 kOe applied magnetic field. Orthorhombic EuPdSb is known to undergo two magnetic transitions, at 12 K and at T N≃ 18 K, and in phase III (T < 12 K), single crystal magnetisation data have shown that the spin structure is collinear antiferromagnetic, with magnetic moments along the crystal a axis. From a 151Eu M?ssbauer absorption study, we show that, at any temperature within phase III, all the moments have equal sizes, and that in phase II (12 K< T <18 K) the magnetic structure is modulated and incommensurate with the lattice spacings. The modulation is close to a pure sine-wave just below T N = 18 K, and it squares up as temperature is lowered. We measured the thermal variations of the first and third harmonics of the moment modulation, and we could determine the first and third harmonics of the exchange coupling. We furthermore show that the antiferromagnetic-incommensurate transition at 12 K is strongly first order, with a hysteresis of 0.05 K, and that the incommensurate-paramagnetic transition at 18 K is weakly first order. Finally, we present an explanation of the spin-flop transition observed in the single crystal magnetisation data in phase III when || in terms of an anisotropic molecular field tensor. We have prepared nearly monodisperse Fe3O4 of ∼50 nm by a chemical route and investigated the electrical and magnetic transports of the composite granular system. A Verwey transition is observed in the vicinity of 113 K. Above and below the Verwey transition, the electrical transport is dominated by electron hopping behavior showing a good linear relation between resistance and T−1/2. The magnetoresistance (MR) increases with the applied field and does not follow the magnetization to reach the saturation at 10 KOe field. This indicates that the MR is mainly arising from the spin-dependent scattering of electrons through the grain boundaries. The temperature dependence of MR shows it has the highest MR value near the Verwey transition.  相似文献

The magnetotransport and magnetoresistive (MR) properties of manganese-based La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 perovskite with different grain sizes are reported. The electrical resistivity was measured as a function of temperature in magnetic fields of 0.5 and 1 T. The insulator–metal transition temperature, T IM, shifted to a higher temperature with the application of the magnetic field. In zero field, T IM is almost constant (∼271 K) for all samples except for the sample with the largest grain size, where T IM=265 K. The temperature dependence of resistivity was fitted with several equations in the metallic (ferromagnetic) region and the insulating (paramagnetic) region. The density of states at the Fermi level, N(E F), and the activation energy of electron hopping were estimated by fitting the resistivity versus temperature curves. The ρT 2 curves are nearly linear in the metallic regime, but the ρT 2.5 curves exhibit a deviation from linearity. The variable range hopping model and small polaron hopping model fit the data well in the high-temperature region, indicating the existence of the Jahn–Teller distortion that localizes the charge carriers. MR was found to increase with an increase in the magnetic field, an effect which is attributed to the intergrain spin tunneling effect.  相似文献

Vortex and pseudogap states in electron-doped Sm2−x Ce x CuO4−δ (x ∼ 0.14) are investigated by the interlayer transport in magnetic fields up to 45 T. To extract intrinsic properties, we fabricated small 30 nm-high mesa structures, sufficiently thin to be free of the recently reported partial decomposition problems. On cooling, the c-axis resistivity ρc of the mesa structures reveals a semiconductive upturn above Tc, followed by a sharp superconducting transition at 20 K. When the magnetic fieldH is applied along the c-axis, ρc(T) shows a parallel shift without significant broadening, as also observed in the hole-doped underdoped cuprates. Above the transition we observe negative magnetoresistance (MR), which can be attributed to the field suppression of the pseudogap, whose magnitude is as small as 38 K. Our results in thex ∼ 0.14 samples closely correspond to the interlayer transport behavior in the ‘overdoped’ regime of hole-doped Bi2Sr2 CaCu2 O8+y.  相似文献

We report results of susceptibility χ and 7Li NMR measurements on LiVSi2O6. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility χ(T) exhibits a broad maximum, typical for low-dimensional magnetic systems. Quantitatively it is in agreement with the expectation for an S=1 spin chain, represented by the structural arrangement of V ions. The NMR results indicate antiferromagnetic ordering below TN=24 K. The intra- and interchain coupling J and Jp for LiVSi2O6, and also for its sister compounds LiVGe2O6, NaVSi2O6 and NaVGe2O6, are obtained via a modified random phase approximation which takes into account results of quantum Monte Carlo calculations. While Jp is almost constant across the series, J varies by a factor of 5, decreasing with increasing lattice constant along the chain direction. The comparison between experimental and theoretical susceptibility data suggests the presence of an easy-axis magnetic anisotropy, which explains the formation of an energy gap in the magnetic excitation spectrum below TN, indicated by the variation of the NMR spin-lattice relaxation rate at T≪TN.  相似文献

Polycrystalline Sm1.4Sr1.2Ca0.4Mn2O7 has been successfully synthesized and investigated with respect to its magnetic and electrical properties. It is found that the sample shows a metal insulator (M-I) transition at 88 K. The maxima of the magnetoresistance (MR) ratio are 95.38% and 98.55% under applied fields of 2 T and 5 T, respectively. At 10 K, the MR attains ∼75% at 5 T. The large MR at low temperature can be attributed to the effects of nearly fully spin-polarized carriers tunneling through the insulating (Sm, Sr, Ca)2O2 layers between the adjacent MnO2 bi-layers. The magnetization data indicates the existence of ferromagnetic clusters.  相似文献

We have measured the zero field and field cooled magnetization of the lightly oxygen doped Cu-rich La2CuO 4 + δ in a wide temperature range (5 K to 350 K). The data together with the evolution of the magnetic hysteresis loop suggest that the ferromagnetism with Curie temperature of 280 K coexists with superconductivity below the transition temperature ∼ 34 K. The coexistence occurs in the hole-rich clusters of size ? 150 nm, which are electronic phase separated from the hole-poor antiferromagnetic background. Received 17 October 2001  相似文献

Magnetosensitive microwave absorption measurements of polycrystalline ferrite Ni0.35Zn0.65Fe2O4 was carried out at 9.4 GHz (X-band) as a function of temperature. Temperature dependence of the total linewidth (ΔHpp) deduced from the resonance spectra showed the passage through the Curie point (Tc~430 K). Additionally, the plot ΔHpp vs. T also indicated the existence of another magnetic phase transition at ~240 K, which can be associated with a Yafet-Kittel-type canting of the magnetic moments. Low-field microwave absorption (LFMA) and the magnetically modulated microwave absorption spectroscopy (MAMMAS) were used to give a further knowledge on this material. For low temperature, these techniques give evidence of a Yafet-Kittel-type canting of the magnetic moments.  相似文献

We have investigated the effect of the magnetic field (B) on the very low-temperature equilibrium heat capacity ceq of the quasi-1 D organic compound (TMTTF)2Br, characterized by a commensurate Spin Density Wave (SDW) ground state. Below 1 K, ceq is dominated by a Schottky-like AST-2 contribution, very sensitive to the experimental time scale, a property that we have previously measured in numerous DW compounds. Under applied field (in the range 0.2–7 T), the equilibrium dynamics, and hence ceq extracted from the time constant, increases enormously. For B ≥ 2–3 T, ceq varies like B2, in agreement with a magnetic Zeeman coupling. Another specific property, common to other Charge/Spin density wave (DW) compounds, is the occurrence of metastable branches in ceq, induced at very low temperature by the field exceeding a critical value. These effects are discussed within a generalization to SDWs in a magnetic field of the available Larkin-Ovchinnikov local model of strong pinning. A limitation of the model when compared to experiments is pointed out.  相似文献

The terahertz dielectric response of LuFe2O4 is investigated by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy over a temperature range of 6–290 K. It is revealed that besides the central mode associated with the charge-ordered state, a soft TO1 mode at below ∼240 K is identified indicating the existence of displacing ferroelectricity, in addition to the charge-ordering-induced ferroelectricity at below 320 K. The anomaly of the soft mode at ∼180 K reflects the magnetoelectric correlation between the soft TO1 mode and the spin/charge fluctuations revealed recently. Finally, the magnetic property at below ∼240 K is discussed.  相似文献

Single-crystals of the new ferromagnetic superconductor UCoGe have been grown. The quality of as-grown samples can be significantly improved by a heat-treatment procedure, which increases the residual resistance ratio (RRR) from ∼5 to ∼30. Magnetization M(T) and resistivity ρ(T) measurements show the annealed samples have a sharp ferromagnetic transition with a Curie temperature TC is 2.8 K. The ordered moment of 0.06 μB is directed along the orthorhombic c-axis. Superconductivity is found below a resistive transition temperature Ts=0.65 K.  相似文献

The magnetotransport and magnetic properties of the binary intermetallic compound Ho2In have been investigated. Clear signature of long range ferromagnetic order in the resistivity and the magnetization data at TC = 85 K is observed. A further spin reorientation type transition is also apparent in our measured data at around Tt = 32 K. The sample exhibits negative magnetoresistance (peak value of –14% at 5 T) over a wide temperature range that extends well above TC. Substantially large magneto-caloric effect is also observed in the sample (maximum value of –8.5 J kg-1K-1 for 0 → 5 T), which peaks around the TC of the sample. The observed magnetoresistance and magnetocaloric effect are related to the suppression of spin disorder by an external magnetic field. Ho2In can be an interesting addition to the list of rare-earth based magnetic refrigerant materials showing magneto-caloric effect across a second order phase transition.  相似文献

A study is reported of the effect of low-level germanium additions (∼0.01–0.1 at. %) on the parameters of the superconducting transition, viz. the critical temperature T c, the second critical magnetic field H c2, and in PbTe doped with 2 at. % Tl, which are derived from the dependence of the electrical resistivity of a sample on temperature (0.4–4.2 K) and magnetic field (0–1.3 T). The discontinuity revealed by experimental data is related to the onset of a Ge-induced structural phase transition. Fiz. Tverd. Tela (St. Petersburg) 40, 1204–1205 (July 1998)  相似文献

The behavior of the thermal conductivity k(T) of bulk faceted fullerite C60 crystals is investigated at temperatures T=8–220 K. The samples are prepared by the gas-transport method from pure C60, containing less than 0.01% impurities. It is found that as the temperature decreases, the thermal conductivity of the crystal increases, reaches a maximum at T=15–20 K, and drops by a factor of ∼2, proportional to the change in the specific heat, on cooling to 8 K. The effective phonon mean free path λ p, estimated from the thermal conductivity and known from the published values of the specific heat of fullerite, is comparable to the lattice constant of the crystal λ pd=1.4 nm at temperatures T>200 K and reaches values λp∼50d at T<15 K, i.e., the maximum phonon ranges are limited by scattering on defects in the volume of the sample in the simple cubic phase. In the range T=25−75 K the observed temperature dependence k(T) can be described by the expression k(T)∼exp(Θ/bT), characteristic for the behavior of the thermal conductivity of perfect nonconducting crystals at temperatures below the Debye temperature Θ (Θ=80 K in fullerite), where umklapp phonon-phonon scattering processes predominate in the volume of the sample. The magnetic transport properties have been measured for La0.67-xYxCa0.33MnO3 ( 0 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.14) system. It was found that the transition temperature T p almost linearly moves to higher temperature as H increases. Electron spin resonance confirms that above T p , there exist ferromagnetic clusters. From the magnetic polaron point of view, the shift of T p vs. H was understood, and it was estimated that the size of the magnetic polaron is of 9.7 ∼ 15.4 ? which is consistent with the magnetic correlation length revealed by the small-angle neutron-scattering technique. The transport properties at temperatures higher than T p conform to the variable-range hopping mechanism. The structure, transport and magnetic properties of (La0.8Sr0.2)1−xMnO3 (0≤x≤0.30) polycrystalline perovskite manganites have been investigated. For all the samples the Curie temperatures, Tc, remain nearly unchanged (329±3 K). Resistivity versus temperature curves for the samples show a double-peak behavior. A significant magnetoresistance (MR) effect and different temperature dependences of the MR ratios of the samples are observed. The shapes of the MR-T curves of the samples can be adjusted by changing x. For the x=0.30 sample, a nearly constant MR ratio of (9.5±0.5)% is obtained over the temperature range from 205 to 328 K.  相似文献
