子空间非相似性度量(WWF-SSD)的三角不等式

2005年,W ang,W ang和Feng在国际期刊Pattern R ecogn ition上提出了用来刻画子空间非相似性的度量(WW F-SSD),而且利用这个度量设计人脸识别算法,取得了很好的效果.但是该文章中没能证明WW F-SSD满足一个距离必须具有的三角不等式性质.本文给出了WW F-SSD的一个矩阵形式等价定义.基于这个定义不但可以使利用M atL ab实现的算法更有效率,而且可以很直观的证明WW F-SSD不依赖于子空间标准正交基的选择这一性质.进一步,我们在这个定义的基础上,利用矩阵的有关性质证明了WW F-SSD的三角不等式,从而最终证明了WW F-SSD是距离.     

General spherically symmetric Finsler metrics with constant Ricci and flag curvature

In this paper, we investigate the flag curvature of a special class of Finsler metrics called general spherically symmetric Finsler metrics, which are defined by a Euclidean metric and two related 1-forms. We find equations to characterize the class of metrics with constant Ricci curvature (tensor) and constant flag curvature. Moreover, we study general spherically symmetric Finsler metrics with the vanishing non-Riemannian quantity χ-curvature. In particular, we construct some new projectively flat Finsler metrics of constant flag curvature.     

Subelliptic Sobolev Spaces for Manifolds with Symmetries

Given a group of symmetries on a (generally non-compact) differentiable manifold, we construct invariant locally subelliptic operators, prove Sobolev inequalities and verify existence of correspondent minimizers. The results apply, in particular, to a class of singular elliptic operators on domains in R^N with singularity on the boundary. On the Incidence Geometry of Grassmann Spaces

In this paper we identify some properties on the point-line structure of Grassmannians which are useful tools to characterize the incidence geometry of Grassmann varieties and of their special quotients.     

On the Filling Invariants at Infinity of Hadamard Manifolds

We study the filling invariants at infinity div _k for Hadamard manifolds defined by Brady and Farb [ Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 350(8) (1998), 3393–3405]. Among other results, we give a positive answer to the question they posed: whether these invariants can be used to detect the rank of a symmetric space of noncompact type.     

Rosenthal inequalities in noncommutative symmetric spaces

We give a direct proof of the ‘upper’ Khintchine inequality for a noncommutative symmetric (quasi-)Banach function space with nontrivial upper Boyd index. This settles an open question of C. Le Merdy and the fourth named author (Le Merdy and Sukochev, 2008 [24]). We apply this result to derive a version of Rosenthal?s theorem for sums of independent random variables in a noncommutative symmetric space. As a result we obtain a new proof of Rosenthal?s theorem for (Haagerup) Lp-spaces.

Global optimization for the Biaffine Matrix Inequality problem

It has recently been shown that an extremely wide array of robust controller design problems may be reduced to the problem of finding a feasible point under a Biaffine Matrix Inequality (BMI) constraint. The BMI feasibility problem is the bilinear version of the Linear (Affine) Matrix Inequality (LMI) feasibility problem, and may also be viewed as a bilinear extension to the Semidefinite Programming (SDP) problem. The BMI problem may be approached as a biconvex global optimization problem of minimizing the maximum eigenvalue of a biaffine combination of symmetric matrices. This paper presents a branch and bound global optimization algorithm for the BMI. A simple numerical example is included. The robust control problem, i.e., the synthesis of a controller for a dynamic physical system which guarantees stability and performance in the face of significant modelling error and worst-case disturbance inputs, is frequently encountered in a variety of complex engineering applications including the design of aircraft, satellites, chemical plants, and other precision positioning and tracking systems.

On Unitary Invariant Weakly Complex Berwald Metrics with Vanishing Holomorphic Curvature and Closed Geodesics

In this paper, the authors construct a class of unitary invariant strongly pseudoconvex complex Finsler metrics which are of the form F =√[ rf(s- t)[, where r = ||v||~ 2, s =| z,v |~2/r, t =|| z||~ 2, f(w) is a real-valued smooth positive function of w ∈ R,and z is in a unitary invariant domain M  C~n. Complex Finsler metrics of this form are unitary invariant. We prove that F is a class of weakly complex Berwald metrics whose holomorphic curvature and Ricci scalar curvature vanish identically and are independent of the choice of the function f. Under initial value conditions on f and its derivative f, we prove that all the real geodesics of F =√[rf(s- t)] on every Euclidean sphere S~(2n-1) M are great circles.     

A Comparison Theorem on the Ricci Curvature in Projective Geometry

We show that if two Riemannian metrics and g are pointwiseprojectively equivalent and the Ricci curvatures satisfy Ric, then the projective equivalence is trivialprovided that g is complete. In this case, is parallel with respect to g and the Riemann curvatures of g and are equal.The Ricci curvature condition can be weakened when the manifold iscompact. This rigidity theorem actually holds for more general geometricstructures, such as Finsler metrics and sprays. In this paper, we willalso discuss several examples and show that the completeness of g cannot be dropped.     

Riemannian Manifolds in Which Certain Curvature Operator Has Constant Eigenvalues along Each Circle

Riemannian manifolds for which a natural curvature operator has constant eigenvalues on circles are studied. A local classification in dimensions two and three is given. In the 3-dimensional case one gets all locally symmetric spaces and all Riemannian manifolds with the constant principal Ricci curvatures r ₁ = r ₂ = 0, r ₃= 0 , which are not locally homogeneous, in general.

Characterization of Certain Holomorphic Geodesic Cycles on Quotients of Bounded Symmetric Domains in terms of Tangent Subspaces

Let be an irreducible bounded symmetric domain and Aut() be a torsion-free discrete group of automorphisms, X /. We study the problem of algebro-geometric and differential-geometric characterizations of certain compact holomorphic geodesic cycles S X. We treat special cases of the problem, pertaining to a situation in which S is a compact holomorphic curve, and to the case where is a classical domain dual to the hyperquadric. In both cases we consider algebro-geometric characterizations in terms of tangent subspaces. As a consequence we derive effective pinching theorems where certain complex submanifolds S X are proven to be totally geodesic whenever their scalar curvatures are pinched between certain computed universal constants, independent of the volume of the submanifold S, giving new examples of the gap phenomenon for the characterization of compact holomorphic geodesic cycles.Research funded by a CERG grant from Research Grants Council of Hong Kong.     

On the Twistor Spaces of Almost Hermitian Manifolds

We study Grassmannian bundles G_k(M) of analytical 2k-planes over an almost Hermitian manifold M²ⁿ, from the point of view of the generalized twistor spaces of [13], and with the method of the moving frame [9]. G₁(M⁴) is the classical twistor space. We find four distinguished almost Hermitian structures, one of them being that of [13], and discuss their integrability and Kählerianity. For n=2, we compute the corresponding Hermitian connections, and derive consequences about the corresponding first Chern classes.

3-流形上的Poisson矩阵及其应用

本文利用可定向3-流形切丛的平凡性,在3维几何上建立了一种整体标架法.对于3-流形上任一整体切标架,定义了一个Poisson矩阵,并给出:Poisson矩阵在标架改变时的变化规律.以Poisson矩阵为原始数据,计算了相应Riemannian度量各种曲率的具体表达式.对于具有常值Poisson矩阵的一类3-流形,这个方法被用来讨论它们的拓扑结构.它们基本上都是3维李群在其离散子群左平移作用下的商空间.
