The modeling of wave propagation problems using finite element methods usually requires the truncation of the computation domain around the scatterer of interest. Absorbing boundary conditions are classically considered in order to avoid spurious reflections. We first prove that a compact embedded minimal annulus in meeting two concentric spheres perpendicularly along the boundaries is part of a plane. In this paper, the upper and lower solution method and Schauder’s fixed point theorem are employed in the study of boundary value problems for a class of second-order impulsive ordinary differential equations with nonlinear boundary conditions. In this article, we study a type of nonlinear fractional boundary value problem with integral boundary conditions. At the micro and nano scale the standard no slip boundary condition of classical fluid mechanics does not apply and must be replaced by a boundary condition that allows some degree of tangential slip. In this study the classical laminar boundary layer equations are studied using Lie symmetries with the no-slip boundary condition replaced by a nonlinear Navier boundary condition. This boundary condition contains an arbitrary index parameter, denoted by n>0, which appears in the coefficients of the ordinary differential equation to be solved. The case of a boundary layer formed in a convergent channel with a sink, which corresponds to n=1/2, is solved analytically. Another analytical but non-unique solution is found corresponding to the value n=1/3, while other values of n for n>1/2 correspond to the boundary layer formed in the flow past a wedge and are solved numerically. It is found that for fixed slip length the velocity components are reduced in magnitude as n increases, while for fixed n the velocity components are increased in magnitude as the slip length is increased.  相似文献

Various techniques may be applied to the approximation of the unknown boundary functions involved in the boundary element method (BEM). Several techniques have been examined numerically to find the most efficient. Techniques considered were: Lagrangian polynomials of the zeroth, first and second orders; spline functions; and the novel weighted minimization technique used successfully in the finite difference method (FDM) for arbitrarily irregular meshes. All these approaches have been used in the BEM for the numerical analysis of plates with various boundary conditions.Both coarse and fine grids on the boundary have been assumed. Maximal errors of the deflections of each plate and the bending moments have been found and the effective computer CPU times determined.Analysis of the results showed that, for the same computer time, the greatest accuracy was obtained by the weighted FDM approach. In the case of the Lagrange approximation, higher order polynomials have proved more efficient. The spline technique yielded more accurate results, but with a higher CPU time.Two discretization approaches have been investigated: the least-squares technique and the collocation method. Despite the fact that the simultaneous algebraic equations obtained were not symmetric, the collocation approach has been confirmed as clearly superior to the least-squares technique, because of the amount of computation time used.  相似文献

We consider a wave equation with nonlinear acoustic boundary conditions. This is a nonlinearly coupled system of hyperbolic equations modeling an acoustic/structure interaction, with an additional boundary damping term to induce both existence of solutions as well as stability. Using the methods of Lasiecka and Tataru for a wave equation with nonlinear boundary damping, we demonstrate well-posedness and uniform decay rates for solutions in the finite energy space, with the results depending on the relationship between (i) the mass of the structure, (ii) the nonlinear coupling term, and (iii) the size of the nonlinear damping. We also show that solutions (in the linear case) depend continuously on the mass of the structure as it tends to zero, which provides rigorous justification for studying the case where the mass is equal to zero.  相似文献

We consider a nonlinear parabolic boundary value problem of the Stefan type with one space variable, which generalizes the model of hydride formation under constant conditions. We suggest a grid method for constructing approximations to the unknown boundary and to the concentration distribution. We prove the uniform convergence of the interpolation approximations to a classical solution of the boundary value problem. (The boundary is smooth, and the concentration distribution has the necessary derivatives.) Thus, we prove the theorem on the existence of a solution, and the proof is given in constructive form: the suggested convergent grid method can be used for numerical experiments.  相似文献
