The combined behavior of gravitational and electromagnetic perturbations in the radiation-dominated plasma of an isotropic universe is considered. It is shown that transverse electromagnetic waves and vector and tensor gravitational perturbations are independent of one another. The propagation of transverse electromagnetic waves during the lepton and radiation-dominated phases is determined. It is shown that the gravitational perturbations help to excite longitudinal electromagnetic fields in the radiation-dominated plasma.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 12, pp. 49–54, December, 1985.  相似文献

By using the sixth order WKB approximation we calculate for an electromagnetic field propagating in D-dimensional Schwarzschild and Schwarzschild de Sitter (SdS) black holes its quasinormal (QN) frequencies for the fundamental mode and first overtones. We study the dependence of these QN frequencies on the value of the cosmological constant and the spacetime dimension. We also compare with the results for the gravitational perturbations propagating in the same background. Moreover we compute exactly the QN frequencies of the electromagnetic field propagating in D-dimensional massless topological black hole and for the charged D-dimensional Nariai spacetime we calculate exactly the QN frequencies of the coupled electromagnetic and gravitational perturbations.  相似文献

A formalism is introduced which may describe both standard linearized waves and gravitational waves in Isaacson's high-frequency limit. After emphasizing main differences between the two approximation techniques we generalize the Isaacson method to non-vacuum spacetimes. Then we present three large explicit classes of solutions for high-frequency gravitational waves in particular backgrounds. These involve non-expanding (plane, spherical or hyperbolical), cylindrical, and expanding (spherical) waves propagating in various universes which may contain a cosmological constant and electromagnetic field. Relations of high-frequency gravitational perturbations of these types to corresponding exact radiative spacetimes are described.  相似文献

Recently attention has been drawn to the fact that perfect fluid tensor perturbations (with perturbed vorticity and acceleration vanishing) of isotropic cosmological models have a perturbed Weyl tensor with electric part satisfying a linear, homogeneous, third-order wave equation while the magnetic part satisfies a linear, homogeneous, second-order wave equation. We construct an analogous class of electromagnetic test fields in the isotropic cosmological models for which the electric vector satisfies a third-order, linear and homogeneous wave equation while the magnetic vector satisfies a second-order, linear and homogeneous wave equation. If the perfect fluid has an equation of state we give a simplified derivation of the authors' previous perturbation analysis describing gravitational waves carrying arbitrary information. We also present the analogous solutions of Maxwell's equations which contain electromagnetic waves conveying arbitrary information.  相似文献

The electric charge density induced by scalar gravitational perturbations in the radiation-dominated stage of the expansion of the universe is calculated on the basis of an investigation of the combined system of Einstein, Maxwell, and kinetic equations for a cosmological plasma with a model collision integral.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 2, pp. 97–100, February, 1992.  相似文献

The system of linearized Einstein and Maxwell equations and a kinetic equation with model collision integral for the cosmological plasma are used to calculate the magnetic field generated by solenoidal perturbations in the radiation-dominated stage of expansion of the universe. The magnetic field is generated by two effects — the Harrison effect and a new effect due to kinetic processes. The second effect contributes to the magnetic field if solenoidal gravitational perturbations exist from the very beginning of the radiation-dominated stage.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 1, pp. 122–126, January, 1992.  相似文献

We investigate transverse electromagnetic waves propagating in a plasma influenced by the gravitational field of the Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole. Applying 3+1 spacetime split we derive the relativistic two-fluid equations to take account of gravitational effects due to the event horizon and describe the set of simultaneous linear equations for the perturbations. We use a local approximation to investigate the one-dimensional radial propagation of Alfvén and high frequency electromagnetic waves. We derive the dispersion relation for these waves and solve it for the wave number k numerically.

We investigate transverse electromagnetic waves propagating in a plasma influenced by the gravitational field of the Reissner–Nordström black hole. Applying 3+1 spacetime split we reformulate the relativistic two-fluid equations to take account of gravitational effects due to the event horizon and describe the set of simultaneous linear equations for the perturbations. Using a local approximation we investigate the one-dimensional radial propagation of Alfvén and high frequency electromagnetic waves. We derive the dispersion relation for these waves and solve it for the wave number k numerically.  相似文献

The cosmological remnants of a first-order phase transition generally depend on the perturbations that the walls of expanding bubbles originate in the plasma. Several of the formation mechanisms occur when bubbles collide and lose their spherical symmetry. However, spherical bubbles are often considered in the literature, in particular for the calculation of gravitational waves. We study the steady state motion of bubble walls for different bubble symmetries. Using the bag equation of state, we discuss the propagation of phase transition fronts as detonations and subsonic or supersonic deflagrations. We consider the cases of spherical, cylindrical and planar walls, and compare the energy transferred to bulk motions of the relativistic fluid. We find that the different wall geometries give similar perturbations of the plasma. For the case of planar walls, we obtain analytical expressions for the kinetic energy in the bulk motions. As an application, we discuss the generation of gravitational waves.  相似文献

We review spacetime dynamics in the presence of large-scale electromagnetic fields and then consider the effects of the magnetic component on perturbations to a spatially homogeneous and isotropic universe. Using covariant techniques, we refine and extend earlier work and provide the magnetohydrodynamic equations that describe inhomogeneous magnetic cosmologies in full general relativity. Specialising this system to perturbed Friedmann–Robertson–Walker models, we examine the effects of the field on the expansion dynamics and on the growth of density inhomogeneities, including non-adiabatic modes. We look at scalar perturbations and obtain analytic solutions for their linear evolution in the radiation, dust and inflationary eras. In the dust case we also calculate the magnetic analogue of the Jeans length. We then consider the evolution of vector perturbations and find that the magnetic presence generally reduces the decay rate of these distortions. Finally, we examine the implications of magnetic fields for the evolution of cosmological gravitational waves.  相似文献

We present the derivation and the solutions to the coupled electromagnetic and gravitational perturbations with sources in a charged black hole background. We work in the so called ghost gauge and consider as source of the perturbations the infall of radial currents. In this way, we study a system in which it is provoked a response involving both, gravitational and electromagnetic waves, which allows us to analyze the dependence between them. We solve numerically the wave equations that describe both signals, characterize the waveforms and study the relation between the input parameters of the infalling matter with those of the gravitational and electromagnetic responses.  相似文献

Standard sirens have been the central paradigm in gravitational-wave cosmology so far. From the gravitational wave signature of compact star binaries, it is possible to measure the luminosity distance of the source directly, and if additional information on the source redshift is provided, a measurement of the cosmological expansion can be performed. This review article discusses several methodologies that have been proposed to use gravitational waves for cosmological studies. Methods that use only gravitational-wave signals and methods that use gravitational waves in conjunction with additional observations such as electromagnetic counterparts and galaxy catalogs will be discussed. The review also discusses the most recent results on gravitational-wave cosmology, starting from the binary neutron star merger GW170817 and its electromagnetic counterpart and finishing with the population of binary black holes, observed with the third Gravitational-wave Transient Catalog GWTC–3.  相似文献

The quasinormal modes of the Schwarzschild black hole surrounded by the quintessence in Rastall gravity are studied using the sixth-order Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin approximative approach. The effect of the Rastall parameter on the quasinormal modes of gravitational, electromagnetic and massless scalar perturbations is explored. Compared to the case of Einstein gravity, it is found that, when η < 0, the gravitational field, electromagnetic field as well as massless scalar field damp more rapidly and have larger real frequency of oscillation in Rastall gravity, while when η > 0, the gravitational field, electromagnetic field as well as massless scalar field damp more slowly and have smaller real frequency of oscillation in Rastall gravity. It is also found that the gravitational field, electromagnetic field as well as massless scalar field damp more and more slowly and the real frequency of oscillation for the gravitational perturbation, electromagnetic perturbation as well as massless scalar perturbation becomes smaller and smaller as the Rastall parameter η increases. Compared among the quasinormal frequencies of gravitational, electromagnetic and massless scalar perturbations, I find that, for fixed η, (l, n), ∈ and Nq, the oscillation damps most slowly for the gravitational perturbation, mediate for the electromagnetic perturbation and most rapidly for the massless scalar perturbation, and the real frequency of oscillation is the smallest for the gravitational perturbation, mediate for the electromagnetic perturbation and the largest for the massless scalar perturbation in Rastall gravity.  相似文献

The analysis of anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) has become an extremely valuable tool for cosmology. There is even hope that planned CMB anisotropy experiments may revolutionize cosmology. Together with determinations of the CMB spectrum, they represent the first precise cosmological measurements. The value of CMB anisotropies lies in large part in the simplicity of the theoretical analysis. Fluctuations in the CMB can be determined almost fully within linear cosmological perturbation theory and are not severely influenced by complicated nonlinear physics. In this contribution the different physical processes causing or influencing anisotropies in the CMB are discussed: the geometry perturbations at and after last scattering, the acoustic oscillations in the baryon-photon plasma prior to recombination, and the diffusion damping during the process of recombination. The perturbations due to the fluctuating gravitational field, the so-called Sachs-Wolfe contribution, is described in a very general form using the Weyl tensor of the perturbed geometry.  相似文献

The transverse electromagnetic waves propagating in a relativistic two-fluid plasma influenced by the gravitational field of the Reissner–Nordström–de Sitter black hole has been investigated exploiting “3 + 1” split of spacetime. Reformulating the two-fluid equations, the set of simultaneous linear equations for the perturbations have been derived. Using a local approximation, the one-dimensional radial propagation of Alfvén and high frequency electromagnetic waves are investigated. The dispersion relation for these waves is obtained and solved numerically for the wave number.  相似文献

Using explicit perturbations of isotropic cosmological models which describe simple gravitational waves, an isotropic tensor having the algebraic symmetries of the Bel–Robinson tensor is derived as a model of cosmic background gravitational radiation and this is used to provide an answer to the question: in what sense can an energy–momentum–stress tensor similar to that describing the cosmic microwave background radiation (neglecting anisotropies) be associated with an isotropic background of gravitational radiation?  相似文献

Measurements of CMB anisotropy and, more recently, polarization have played a very important role in allowing precise determination of various parameters of the ‘standard’ cosmological model. The expectation of the paradigm of inflation and the generic prediction of the simplest realization of inflationary scenario in the early Universe have also been established — ‘acausally’ correlated initial perturbations in a flat, statistically isotropic Universe, adiabatic nature of primordial density perturbations. Direct evidence for gravitational instability mechanism for structure formation from primordial perturbations has been established. In the next decade, future experiments promise to strengthen these deductions and uncover the remaining crucial signature of inflation — the primordial gravitational wave background.  相似文献

Thermodynamical behavior of inhomogeneous universe with varying Λ in presence of electromagnetic field is obtained. F 12 is the non-vanishing component of electromagnetic field tensor. To get a deterministic solution, it is assumed that the free gravitational field is Petrov type-II non-degenerate. The value of cosmological constant is found to be small and positive supported by recent results from the supernovae observations recently obtained by High-Z Supernovae Ia Team and Supernovae Cosmological Project. A relation between cosmological constant and thermodynamical quantities is established. Some physical and geometric properties of the model are also discussed.  相似文献
