Proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) kinetics of a Zn(II) porphyrin donor noncovalently bound to a naphthalene-diimide acceptor through an amidinium-carboxylate interface have been investigated by time-resolved spectroscopy. The S1 singlet excited-state of a Zn(II) 2-amidinium-5,10,15,20-tetramesitylporphyrin chloride (ZnP-beta-AmH+) donor is sufficiently energetic (2.04 eV) to reduce a carboxylate-diimide acceptor (DeltaG degrees = -460 mV, THF). Static quenching of the porphyrin fluorescence is observed and time-resolved measurements reveal more than a 3-fold reduction in the S1 lifetime of the porphyrin upon amidinium-carboxylate formation (THF, 298 K). Picosecond transient absorption spectra of the free ZnP-beta-AmH+ in THF reveal the existence of an excited-state isosbestic point between the S1 and T1 states at lambdaprobe = 650 nm, providing an effective 'zero-kinetics' background on which to observe the formation of PCET photoproducts. Distinct rise and decay kinetics are attributed to the build-up and subsequent loss of intermediates resulting from a forward and reverse PCET reaction, respectively (kPCET(fwd) = 9 x 108 s-1 and kPCET(rev) = 14 x 108 s-1). The forward rate constant is nearly 2 orders of magnitude slower than that measured for covalently linked Zn(II) porphyrin-acceptor dyads of comparable driving force and D-A distance, establishing the importance of a proximal proton network in controlling charge transport.  相似文献

A general method has been developed to control the selective rearrangement of Meijer's AADD quadruply hydrogen-bonded homodimers by introducing an additional donor-acceptor interaction. Therefore, one donor-assembling monomer, 1, in which the electron-rich bis(p-phenylene)-34-crown-10 moiety is connected to the hydrogen-bonding moiety, and two acceptor-assembling monomers, 2 and 3, in which the electron-deficient pyromellitic diimide or naphthalene diimide group is incorporated, respectively, are synthesized and characterized. 1H NMR and 2D-NOESY studies show that all these compounds exist as stable homodimers in chloroform. Mixing 1 equiv of 1 with 1 equiv of 2 in chloroform leads to the formation of heterodimers 1.2 in approximately 60 % yield, as a result of the electrostatic interaction between the bis(p-phenylene)-34-crown-10 moiety of 1 and the pyromellitic diimide group of 2. Selective formation of heterodimer 1.3 (>97 %) was achieved by mixing 1 equiv of 1 with 1 equiv of 3 in chloroform which resulted in a strengthened electrostatic interaction between the bis(p-phenylene)-[34]crown-10 moiety of 1 and the naphthalene diimide group of 3. The structures of heterodimers 1.2 and 1.3, which have been characterized by 1H NMR and UV/Vis experiments, reveal a remarkable promoting effect between the donor-acceptor interaction and intermolecular hydrogen-bonding. 1H NMR studies also reveal that heterodimers 1.2 and 1.3 can be fully and partially dissociated by addition of heterocycle 29, leading to the formation of new more robust heterodimers 1.29 and 2.29, or 3.29,respectively, and partially regenerated by subsequent addition of heterocyclic compound 30 through the formation of a new heterodimer 29.30. Heterodimers 1.2 and 1.3 represent a novel class of pseudo[2]rotaxanes constructed by two different noncovalent interactions.  相似文献

Ab initio MP2/6-311+G(3df,2pd) and MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ calculations have been carried out to investigate the structures and properties of AHXHYH(3) (A=F, Cl; X=F, Cl; Y=N, P) hydrogen-bonded complexes. Significant cooperative effects are observed in the XHYH3 dyads in the triads due to the presence of the polar near-neighbor AH. These effects are greater when the polar partner is HF, which is a better proton donor than HCl. Structural changes, red shifts of proton-donor stretching frequencies, nonadditive interaction energies, and electron density redistributions unambiguously demonstrate that the X--HY hydrogen bond (HB) is stronger in the triads than in the corresponding dyads, while the X--H bond of the proton donor becomes weaker. Even more pronounced cooperative effects are observed in the AHXH dyads due to the presence of the YH3 partner. These effects are weaker in complexes having PH3 rather than NH3 as the proton acceptor, since NH3 is a stronger base. Cooperativity also enhances the proton-donating ability of the YH3 moiety, with the result that all complexes except FHFHPH3 are cyclic. Cooperativity, together with the ease of breaking the Cl--H bond in ClHClHNH3 and FHClHNH3, leads to proton transfer (PT), so that these two complexes are better described as approaching hydrogen-bonded ClHCl- x +HNH3 and FHCl- x +HNH3 ion pairs.  相似文献

1-azacarbazole hydrogen-bonded dimers undergo photoinduced double proton transfer reaction in their lowest excited singlet state. A second emission band with a maximum at 510 nm arises from a tautomer formed in the excited singlet state as a result of the double proton transfer process.  相似文献

A unique N(+)-HN hydrogen-bonded (H-bonded) dimer motif based on partially oxidized pyridyl-substituted TTF was constructed in the charge-transfer complex. The charge ordering in the TTF column by the charge disproportionation in the dimer regulates the arrangement of the H-bonded proton, evidencing the proton-electron coupled state.  相似文献

Nonradiative decay pathways associated with vibronically coupled S1(ππ*)–S2(*) potential energy surfaces of 3- and 5-hydroxychromones are investigated by employing the linear vibronic coupling approach. The presence of a conical intersection close to the Franck–Condon point is identified based on the critical examination of computed energetics and structural parameters of stationary points. We show that very minimal displacements of relevant atoms of intramolecular proton transfer geometry are adequate to drive the molecule toward the conical intersection nuclear configuration. The evolving wavepacket on S1(ππ*) bifurcates at the conical intersection: a part of the wavepacket moves to S2(*) within a few femtoseconds while the other decays to S1 minimum. Our findings indicate the possibility of forming the proton transfer tautomer product via S2(*), competing with the traditional pathway occurring on S1(ππ*).  相似文献

We present here a detailed analysis of the mechanism of photoinduced electron and proton transfer in the planar pyrrole-pyridine hydrogen-bonded system, a model for the photochemistry of hydrogen bonds in DNA base pairs. Two different crossings, an avoided crossing and a conical intersection, are the key steps for forward and backward electron and proton transfer providing to the system photostability against UV radiation by restoring the system in its initial electronic and geometric structure.  相似文献

The study of the interactions of the three urea-based receptors AH, BH(+) and CH(2+) with a variety of anions, in MeCN, has made it possible to verify the current view that hydrogen bonding is frozen proton transfer from the donor (the urea N-H fragment in this case) to the acceptor (the anion X(-)). The poorly acidic, neutral receptor AH establishes two equivalent hydrogen bonds N-H···X(-), with all anions, including CH(3)COO(-) and F(-), in which moderate proton transfer from N-H to the anion takes place. The strongly acidic, dicationic receptor CH(2+) forms, with most anions, complexes in which two inequivalent hydrogen bonds are present: one involving moderate proton transfer (N-H···X(-)) and one in which advanced proton transfer has taken place, described as N(-)···H-X. The degree of proton advancement is directly related to the basic tendencies of the anion. The cationic receptor BH(+) of intermediate acidic properties only forms complexes with two inequivalent hydrogen bonds (moderate+advanced proton transfer) with CH(3)COO(-) and F(-), and complexes with two equivalent hydrogen bonds (moderate proton transfer) with all the other anions. Moreover, [B···HF] and [C···HF](+), on addition of a second F(-) ion, lose the bound HF molecule to give HF(2)(-). Release of CH(3)COOH, with the formation of [CH(3)COOH···CH(3)COO](-), also takes place with the [B···CH(3)COOH] complex in the presence of a large excess of anion.  相似文献

TDDFT, RI-CC2, and CIS calculations have been performed for the nondissociative excited-state proton transfer (ESPT) in the S1 state of 7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin (7H4MC) along a H-bonded water wire of three water molecules bridging the proton donor (OH) and the proton acceptor (C[double bond]O) groups (7H4MC.(H2O)3). The observed structural reorganization in the water-wire cluster is interpreted as a proton-transfer (PT) reaction along the H2O solvent wire. The shift of electron density within the organic chromophore 7H4MC due to the optical excitation appears to be the driving force for ESPT. All the methods used show that the reaction path occurs in the 1pipi* state, and no crossing with a Rydberg-type 1pisigma* state is found. TDDFT and RI-CC2 calculations predict an exoergic reaction of the excited-state enol-to-keto transformation. The S1 potential energy curve reveals well-defined Cs minima of enol- and keto-clusters, separated by a single barrier with a height of 17-20 kcal/mol. After surmounting this barrier, spontaneous PT along the water wire is observed, leading without any further barrier to the keto structure. The TDDFT and RI-CC2 methods appear to be reliable approaches to describe the energy surfaces of ESPT. The CIS method predicts an endoergic ESPT reaction and an energy barrier, which is too high.  相似文献

The role of electron and proton transfer in acid-base catalysis is discussed, with two reactions as examples, in one of which (polymerization of cyclobutenes) an acid, and in another (nitramide decomposition), a base acts as the catalyst.  相似文献

Proton and deuteron transfer reactions in a hydrogen-bonded complex dissolved in a polar solution are studied using quantum-classical Liouville dynamics. Reactive-flux correlation functions that involve quantum-classical Liouville dynamics for species operators and quantum equilibrium sampling are used to calculate the rate constants. Adiabatic and nonadiabatic reaction rates are computed, compared, and analyzed. Large variations of the kinetic isotope effect (KIE) for this reaction have been observed in the literature, which depend on the nature of the approximate calculation used to estimate the proton and deuteron transfer rates. Our estimate of the KIE lies at the low end of the range of previously observed values, suggesting a rather small KIE for this reaction.  相似文献

The barriers for double proton transfer in the ground and lowest Π-Π* and Π-Π* excited states of the formic acid dimer have been calculated within a modified INDO scheme. Analysis of the nature of the excited electronic states, with emphasis on charge-transfer transitions, has been performed. The results indicate a lower barrier in the excited Π-Π* states than in the ground state.  相似文献

Electron and energy transfer reactions in covalently connected donor-bridge-acceptor assemblies are strongly dependent, not only on the donor-acceptor distance, but also on the electronic structure of the bridge. In this article we describe some well characterised systems where the bridges are pi-conjugated chromophores, and where, specifically, the interplay between bridge length and energy plays an important role for the donor-acceptor electronic coupling. For any application that relies on the transport of electrons, for example molecule based solar cells or molecular scale electronics, it will be imperative to predict the electron transfer capabilities of different molecular structures. The potential difficulties with making such predictions and the lack of suitable models are also discussed.  相似文献

Triphenylamine ortho-tricarboxylic acid (1) has been synthesized and the crystal structure reported. This molecule is shown to spontaneously self-assemble into a hydrogen-bonded tetrahedron. Furthermore, Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectroscopy shows evidence for the stability of such aggregates from an ethanol/water solution.  相似文献

We present a simple theoretical treatment of nonadiabatic electron transfer in multiply bridged donor-bridge-acceptor molecules using the density matrix formalism. Destructive interference can result from different signed couplings between bridge sites, with the simplest system being a four-site Joachim-type molecular interferometer. Previous work has shown that deposition of energy on the bridge sites erases the interference and recovers transport. We show that pure local dephasing, a completely elastic process, is also capable of eliminating destructive interference and regaining transport. Destructive interference as a result of system connectivity can explain the familiar ortho-meta-para reactivity of benzene bridges. We also show that pure dephasing can yield a coalescence of ortho, meta, and para effective coupling strengths and suggest a system to observe this effect experimentally.  相似文献

The self-assembly of a novel series of donor-acceptor interaction-driven artificial hetero-duplexes in organic media has been described. Four linear compounds 1a-1d, bearing two to five electron rich 1,5-dioxynaphthalene units connected by the tetra(ethylene glycol) linker, respectively, have been prepared and used as donors, while eight compounds 2a-2d, 13-16, bearing one to four electron deficient pyromellitic diimide, 1,4,5,8-naphthalene-tetracarboxydiimide, or perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxydiimide units, respectively, have been used as acceptors. The structure of the hetero-duplexes has been characterized by the 1H NMR, UV-vis spectroscopy and vapor pressure osmometry. It is revealed that the binding stability of the duplexes vary greatly, depending on the length and structure of the monomers and also the solvent, and hetero-duplex 1d·2d displays a maximum association constant of ca. 1.0×104 M−1 in chloroform.  相似文献
