We study spontaneously forming convection in a container that is almost completely filled with a bidisperse granular mixture. The container with an aspect ratio close to 1 rotates slowly about a horizontal axis. In this geometry, single vortex rolls are observed in the cell plane, after a spontaneous symmetry breaking. The circulation of grains produces nonuniform segregation patterns of the mixture that in turn interact with the convective flow. We describe oscillatory modulations of the convection velocity, cessations and spontaneous reversals of the circulation. All these features are absent in multiroll granular convection.  相似文献

为满足中国加速器驱动的次临界系统(C-ADS) 对于可靠性的要求, 计划采用基于螺线管的电磁垂直输运方案, 将经过质子束辐照后下落的散裂靶颗粒球再次输运至初始高度。基于解析方法对颗粒流垂直输运装置进行了分析和设计, 通过基于螺线管散热、径轴向颗粒流聚散焦效应和互感损耗等方面的考虑, 得到了适合于垂直输运颗粒流的螺线管驱动方式和螺线管构型及排布。利用基于本文解析方法的模拟程序, 对不同输运管道内径、不同螺线管驱动电流和不同螺线管构型和排布下的颗粒流垂直输运装置进行了模拟, 并从中筛选出了该装置的优化设计。模拟表明, 采用该优化设计的输运装置可将质量流量为19.6kg/s的颗粒流垂直输运至40m高度, 并满足颗粒球出口速度足够大的要求。  相似文献

置于以窗口连接的分隔仓中振动驱动的颗粒气体会出现颗粒在两仓中布居分聚现象,被形象地称为麦克斯韦妖现象.通量模型的建立是理解麦克斯韦妖现象的关键问题.Eggers以颗粒气体动力学为基础得出了简化的理论模型.该模型可以很好地得到分仓中颗粒的布居分聚现象,然而似乎无法用于预测两种颗粒在分仓体系中的布居振荡现象.通过实验研究,测量了颗粒气体的流通量曲线,改进了Eggers模型.改进的模型可以很好地得到两种颗粒在分仓体系中的布居振荡现象. 关键词: 颗粒气体 耗散 通量模型  相似文献

In this paper we give an overview of the cooperative effects in fluctuation driven transport arising from the interaction of a large number of particles. (i) First, we study a model with finite-sized, overdamped Brownian particles interacting via hard-core repulsion. Computer simulations and theoretical calculations reveal a number of novel cooperative transport phenomena in this system, including the reversal of direction of the net current as the particle density is increased, and a very strong and complex dependence of the average velocity on both the size and the average distance of the particles. (ii) Next, we consider the cooperation of a collection of motors rigidly attached to a backbone. This system possesses dynamical phase transition allowing spontaneous directed motion even if the system is spatially symmetric. (iii) Finally, we report on an experimental investigation exploring the horizontal transport of granular particles in a vertically vibrated system whose base has a sawtooth-shaped profile. The resulting material flow exhibits complex collective behavior, both as a function of the number of layers of particles and the driving frequency; in particular, under certain conditions, increasing the layer thickness leads to a reversal of the current, while the onset of transport as a function of frequency occurs gradually in a manner reminiscent of a phase transition. Microwave filters based on granular high-temperature superconducting structures are studied. Filters with granular kinetic inductance are very sensitive to the changes in temperature, constant magnetic field, and transport current flowing through a high-temperature superconducting film. The tuning sensitivity to temperature, constant magnetic field, and transport current is, on average, 9292 kHz/deg, 185.65 kHz/G, and 26.8 kHz/nA, respectively.  相似文献

We report the experimental and theoretical study of electrostatically driven granular material. We show that the charged granular medium undergoes a hysteretic phase transition from the immobile condensed state (granular solid) to a fluidized dilated state (granular gas) with a changing applied electric field. In addition we observe a spontaneous precipitation of dense clusters from the gas phase and subsequent coarsening-coagulation of these clusters. Molecular dynamics simulations show qualitative agreement with experimental results.  相似文献

研究汉语自然口语识别中的建模单元选择问题。在HMM三状态模型中,声韵母单元与音素单元作为两种最流行的建模单元各有优劣。一方面从自然口语音变严重的问题出发,倾向采用粗粒度的声韵母单元以概括各种音变;另一方面从三状态结构可能无法有效描述复杂单元的问题出发,又倾向采用细粒度的音素单元。本文在实验语音学理论研究成果与声韵母时长分析实验结果的基础上,主张对扩展声韵母单元进行有选择的拆分,提出了基于鼻韵尾分离的声韵母拆分方法。实验结果表明本文的方法与扩展声韵母单元、音素单元相比,识别性能有了明显改善,其字错误率分别降低2.23%和9.45%。   相似文献

Flowing granular materials are complex, industrially important, and scientifically provocative. In this paper we report measurements of granular transport in 3-dimensional tumbling containers. We use magnetic resonance imaging techniques for direct tracking of particles and measure the interior flows of granular materials. One goal is to measure industrial mixer performance over a wide range of conditions. As the mixer geometries are relatively simple, such measurements could serve as incisive tests during development of better granular equations of motion. Localized period-doubling waves arise in circularly shaken granular beds contained in an annular channel. These solitary wave packets are accompanied by a locally increased particle density. The width and velocity of the granular wave pulse are measured as a function of the bed height. A continuum model for the material distribution, based on the measured granular transport velocity as a function of the bed thickness, captures the essence of the experimental findings.  相似文献

In this Letter we report spontaneous pattern formation in dense granular assemblies confined to a Hele-Shaw cell and quasistatic regime. Varied unexpected patterns, ranging from rounded to fingered, are observed due to the displacement of one granular material by another. Computer simulations reproduce the major features observed in these experiments. Two mechanisms are responsible for the pattern formation: crystallization of the injected grains and plastic deformation of the displaced grains. The experiment suggests analogies with viscous fingering and jamming transition experiments.  相似文献

It is well-recognized that granular media under rapid flow conditions can be modeled as a gas of hard spheres with inelastic collisions. At moderate densities, a fundamental basis for the determination of the granular hydrodynamics is provided by the Enskog kinetic equation conveniently adapted to account for inelastic collisions. A surprising result (compared to its molecular gas counterpart) for granular mixtures is the failure of the energy equipartition, even in homogeneous states. This means that the partial temperatures Ti (measuring the mean kinetic energy of each species) are different to the (total) granular temperature T. The goal of this paper is to provide an overview on the effect of different partial temperatures on the transport properties of the mixture. Our analysis addresses first the impact of energy nonequipartition on transport which is only due to the inelastic character of collisions. This effect (which is absent for elastic collisions) is shown to be significant in important problems in granular mixtures such as thermal diffusion segregation. Then, an independent source of energy nonequipartition due to the existence of a divergence of the flow velocity is studied. This effect (which was already analyzed in several pioneering works on dense hard-sphere molecular mixtures) affects to the bulk viscosity coefficient. Analytical (approximate) results are compared against Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics simulations, showing the reliability of kinetic theory for describing granular flows.  相似文献

以颗粒二体接触力模型为基础和出发点的软球离散元模拟是当前颗粒物理和力学领域广泛应用的研究手段.但文献上经常使用的、包括著名的Hertz-Mindlin和Luding在内的力模型并没有完全明确弹性势能或耗散热的计算方法,故从热力学层面看它们还需要完善.考虑到机械能的耗散行为是这类材料的重要物理内容,本文借鉴近年来提出的颗粒固体流体动力学(GSH)思路,提出一种具有明确势能和热功率的接触力建模方法.该理论除明确给出了机械能和热能的计算公式外,还能具体描述能量守恒、热力学平衡态和熵增加等基本原理,解决了传统接触力模型在这些方面的欠缺问题.初步计算显示本文模型的恢复系数可以随碰撞速率的增加而减弱,这比现有的其他模型更符合实验观测.虽然为简单起见这些公式仅局限于二维和忽略颗粒转动运动情况,文中讨论了如何推广到三维含转动情形,以及所涉及的滚动和扭转接触力的热力学处理问题.鉴于是否在Onsager非平衡热力学基础上建模是本文给出的接触力公式有别于当前其他模型的关键所在,文中强调了这里的主要建模对象应该是热力学特征函数和Onsager迁移系数,而接触力是它们的推导结果.这是一个与目前直接针对接触力进行建模的不同思路.文中对颗粒物质特有的、反映样品几何变形与弹应变之间联络的一个非对角迁移系数做了详细介绍,并且认为它与打滑等复杂力学现象关系密切,无论宏观GSH尺度上,还是细观接触力尺度上都不可忽略.  相似文献

We calculate electronic transport properties of multilayered granular alloys, composed of discontinuous Co layers embedded in Ag alternated with complete Ag layers. We focus our attention on the conductivity dependance on the shape and size of the clusters. The electronic structure is self-consistently calculated using a tight binding hamiltonian which includes a Hubbard term within the unrestricted Hartree–Fock approximation. We obtain different transport regimes depending on the growth conditions and transport direction.  相似文献

The hysteretic behavior of the magnetoresistance R(H) of granular high-temperature superconductors (HTSCs) of the Y-Ba-Cu-O, Bi-Ca-Sr-Cu-O, and La-Sr-Cu-O classical systems is investigated for transport current densities lower and higher than the critical density (at H = 0). All systems exhibit universal behavior of the width of the magnetoresistance hysteresis loop: independence of transport current under identical external conditions. This means that flux trapping in HTSC grains is the main mechanism controlling the hysteretic behavior of the magnetoresistance of granular HTSCs, while pinning of Josephson vortices in the intragranular medium makes no appreciable contribution to the formation of magnetoresistance hysteresis (when transport current flows through the sample). Experimental data on relaxation of residual resistance after the action of a magnetic field also confirm this conclusion.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to refine the understanding of the tribo-electrostatic phenomena that can affect the efficiency of suction-type dilute-phase transport systems. The study was conducted with mm-size ABS-PC particles, a granular material originating from genuine information technology wastes. The tribo-charging process was modelled using the response surface method of experimental design. The controlled variables were the granular material feed rate and the aspirating air speed rate. The monitored variable was the charge imparted to a well-defined section of the duct and which is equal to the charge transferred to the particles passing through that section of the pneumatic transport system. An induction type sensor connected to an electrometer has been employed for the measurements. The data were processed by a virtual instrument developed in LabView. A commercial software package was employed for estimating the effects of the various factors and predicting the optimum operating conditions, which were then confirmed by a final experiment.  相似文献

Electrical breakdown in GaAs Schottky diodes creates a granular filamentary structure of submicron dimensions between the contacts. The filament exhibits very fast (<2 nsec) electrical switching between stable resistance states. Irrespective of the contact metal, the filament becomes superconducting when in the low-resistance state. Electron transport in all the resistance states is intergrain tunneling between metallic inclusions and is governed by an activation energy. Switching is not based on metal transport.  相似文献

We study the multiple scattering of short-wavelength ultrasound through the force networks in dry and wet glass bead packings under stress. Over long distance scales, the diffusion approximation is shown to describe adequately the transport of elastic waves dominated by shear waves. The recovered transport mean path reveals a short-range correlation of the force chains. Also we observe the drastic effect of wetting liquids on the energy dissipation in the granular medium. The relevance of these experimental findings for the seismological applications is discussed.  相似文献

We theoretically investigate the phase-dependent heat transport of a temperature-biased granular Josephson junction in the presence of a perpendicular magnetic field. We illustrate the influence of geometry of the junction on the thermal current. The use of granular Josephson junction rather than bulk one makes significant changes in the heat current behavior. The heat current diffraction pattern of the rectangular, circular and annular geometries with no trapped fluxons demonstrates similar to the current of s-wave superconducting junction. By increasing the number of trapped fluxon, the pattern of current behaves such as d-wave superconducting junction. The feasibility of using granular superconductors, with different geometries, controlled by the magnetic field provides an appropriate tool to obtain the desired result for a specific application.  相似文献

Many continuum theories for granular flow produce an equation of motion for the fluctuating kinetic energy density (granular temperature) that accounts for the energy lost in inelastic collisions. Apart from the presence of an extra dissipative term, this equation is very similar in form to the usual temperature equation in hydrodynamics. It is shown how a lattice-kinetic model based on the Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) equation that was previously derived for a miscible two-component fluid may be modified to model the continuum equations for granular flow. This is done by noting that the variable corresponding to the concentration of one species follows an equation that is essentially analogous to the granular temperature equation. A simulation of an unforced granular fluid using the modified model reproduces the phenomenon of clustering instability, namely the spontaneous agglomeration of particles into dense clusters, which occurs generically in all granular flows. The success of the continuum theory in capturing the gross features of this basic phenomenon is discussed. Some shear flow simulations are also presented.  相似文献
