This paper investigates the ground-state properties of the mixture composed of the strongly interacting Tonks-Girardeau gas and spin polarized Fermi gas confined in one-dimensional harmonic traps, where the interaction between the Bose atoms and Fermi atoms is tunable. With a generalized Bose-Fermi transformation the mixture is mapped into a two-component Fermi gas. The homogeneous Fermi gas is exactly solvable by the Bethe-ansatz method and the ground state energy density can be obtained. Combining the ground-state energy function of the homogeneous system with local density approximation it obtains the ground-state density distributions of inhomogeneous mixture. It is shown that with the increase in boson-fermion interaction, the system exhibits composite-fermionization crossover.  相似文献

A probabilistic model describing tracer transport in multiphase spatially inhomogeneous transport (plug-flow) systems is presented. The properties of the trajectories are completely described by a two-component Markov process with absorbing boundaries. The first component is continuous, the second discrete. Infinitesimal conditions are given. Probabilities associated with the process are derived.  相似文献

We introduce a model for active transport on inhomogeneous networks embedded in a diffusive environment which is motivated by vesicular transport on actin filaments. In the presence of a hard-core interaction, particle clusters are observed that exhibit an algebraically decaying distribution in a large parameter regime, indicating the existence of clusters on all scales. The scale-free behavior can be understood by a mechanism promoting preferential attachment of particles to large clusters. The results are compared with a diffusion-limited aggregation model and active transport on a regular network. For both models we observe aggregation of particles to clusters which are characterized by a finite size scale if the relevant time scales and particle densities are considered.

We study the unidirectional flow of a binary mixture of biased-random walkers on a square lattice under a periodic boundary. The lattice-gas mixture consists of two types of slender particles (walkers) which have different biases (drift coefficients). When the density is higher than a critical value, a dynamical transition occurs from the homogeneous flow to the inhomogeneous flow and clogging appears. The inhomogeneous state returns to the homogeneous congested flow with further increasing density. The clogging does not appear in the unidirectional flow of the conventional lattice-gas binary mixture of single-site particles. The jamming (clogging) transition is clarified for various sizes of slender particles.  相似文献

This article deals with the problems raised when a muon(muonium) quantum diffusion in a crystal is highly inhomogeneous. It is shown how static disorder arising from the crystal doping influence the diffusion process and drastically changes both the time decay of the polarization function and the temperature dependence of the depolarization rate. The spin depolarization of muons moving in a spatially inhomogeneous defect potential and trapping of particles by the long-ranged traps is studied in detail. Most attention is given to the particle localization and delocalization phenomena resulting in the two-component behavior of muon polarization at low temperature. Finally, the experimental data on muon depolarization in insulators KCl, GaAs, N2 and superconducting metals Al, V are analyzed.  相似文献

Numerical solutions of the generalized one-dimensional Fisher–Kolmogorov–Petrovskii–Piskunov equation with nonlocal competitive losses and convection are constructed. The influence function for nonlocal losses is chosen in the form of a Gaussian distribution. The effect of convection on the dynamics of the spatially inhomogeneous distribution of the population density is investigated.  相似文献

Non-equilibrium thermo field dynamics is extended to treat spatially inhomogeneous systems. A canonical formalism of thermally dissipative semi-free fields describing spatially inhomogeneous situations is presented. With this formalism, a scheme of perturbative calculations is developed and the “on-shell” renormalization condition is discussed. We illustrate this scheme using a model of particles interacting with impurities and find that the self-consistent renormalization condition gives the kinetic equation for the averaged particle number density as well as the renormalized energy and the dissipative coefficient. It is also shown that this kinetic equation can be reduced to the Boltzmann equation in the gradient expansion approximation.  相似文献

We present detailed measurements of ion scale vortices of drift type coupled to Alfvén waves in an inhomogeneous and collisionless space magnetoplasma. The two free parameters of a dipolar vortex, intensity and spatial radius, are measured. The vortices are driven by a strong density gradient on a boundary layer with scale size of the same order as the vortex diameter. Observations of vortices off the gradient show that symmetry-breaking conditions in a real inhomogeneous plasma can lead not only to cross-field but also to cross-boundary anomalous transport of particles and energy.  相似文献

We study the conservative and deterministic dynamics of two nonlinearly interacting particles evolving in a one-dimensional spatially periodic washboard potential. A weak tilt of the washboard potential is applied biasing one direction for particle transport. However, the tilt vanishes asymptotically in the direction of bias. Moreover, the total energy content is not enough for both particles to be able to escape simultaneously from an initial potential well; to achieve transport the coupled particles need to interact cooperatively. For low coupling strength the two particles remain trapped inside the starting potential well permanently. For increased coupling strength there exists a regime in which one of the particles transfers the majority of its energy to the other one, as a consequence of which the latter escapes from the potential well and the bond between them breaks. Finally, for suitably large couplings, coordinated energy exchange between the particles allows them to achieve escapes — one particle followed by the other — from consecutive potential wells resulting in directed collective motion. The key mechanism of transport rectification is based on the asymptotically vanishing tilt causing a symmetry breaking of the non-chaotic fraction of the dynamics in the mixed phase space. That is, after a chaotic transient, only at one of the boundaries of the chaotic layer do resonance islands appear. The settling of trajectories in the ballistic channels associated with transporting islands provides long-range directed transport dynamics of the escaping dimer.  相似文献

The inhomogeneous version of the Percus-Yevick theory is applied to a one-dimensional liquid subject to an external potential. The treatment which covers the range between the dilute limit and fairly high densities, allows one to discuss the development of commensurability effects in structural quantities as well as in the transport properties of a dynamic model, which is based on strongly damped Brownian particles.  相似文献

We use density-functional theory to study the formation of inhomogeneous phases in a binary mixture of particles interacting by repulsive, athermal Gaussian potentials with suitably chosen strengths and ranges. Both the potential parameters and the free-energy functional are the same as those adopted in a previous investigation by other authors (Archer A J, Likos C N and Evans R 2004 J. Phys.: Condens. Matter 16 L297), but here a fully numerical minimization of the functional is performed, without any assumption about the functional form of the density profile. We find lamellar, rod and cluster phases. In the lamellar phase, the two species arrange into intercalating stripes; in the rod and cluster phases, the minority species is localized at the site of a periodic lattice, either triangular (for rods) or body-centred cubic (for clusters), while the other species is distributed non-uniformly in the remaining region, so that it forms a percolating network. The order of the transition from the homogeneous to the inhomogeneous phase and the phase diagram of the mixture are also discussed.  相似文献

The accumulation of small particles is analyzed in stationary flows through channels of variable width at small Reynolds number. The combined influence of pressure, viscous drag and thermal fluctuations is described by means of a Fokker-Planck equation for the particle density. It is shown that for extended spherical particles the shape of the fluid domain gives rise to inhomogeneous particle densities, thereby leading to particle accumulation and corresponding depletion. For extended spherical particles, conditions are specified that lead to inhomogeneous densities and consequently to regions with particle accumulation and depletion.  相似文献

We have measured the local electronic compressibility of a two-dimensional hole gas as it crosses the B = 0 metal-insulator transition. In the metallic phase, the compressibility follows the mean-field Hartree-Fock (HF) theory and is found to be spatially homogeneous. In the insulating phase it deviates by more than an order of magnitude from the HF predictions and is spatially inhomogeneous. The crossover density between the two types of behavior agrees quantitatively with the transport critical density, suggesting that the system undergoes a thermodynamic change at the transition.  相似文献

The effects of both interactions and Zeeman magnetic field in disordered electronic systems are explored in the Hubbard model on a square lattice. We investigate the thermodynamic (density, magnetization, density of states) and transport (conductivity) properties using determinantal quantum Monte Carlo and inhomogeneous Hartree Fock techniques. We find that at half filling there is a novel metallic phase at intermediate disorder that is sandwiched between a Mott insulator and an Anderson insulator. The metallic phase is highly inhomogeneous and coexists with antiferromagnetic long-range order. At quarter filling also the combined effects of disorder and interactions produce a conducting state which can be destroyed by applying a Zeeman field, resulting in a magnetic field-driven transition. We discuss the implication of our results for experiments.  相似文献

The zero range process is of particular importance as a generic model for domain wall dynamics of one-dimensional systems far from equilibrium. We study this process in one dimension with rates which induce an effective attraction between particles. We rigorously prove that for the stationary probability measure there is a background phase at some critical density and for large system size essentially all excess particles accumulate at a single, randomly located site. Using random walk arguments supported by Monte Carlo simulations, we also study the dynamics of the clustering process with particular attention to the difference between symmetric and asymmetric jump rates. For the late stage of the clustering we derive an effective master equation, governing the occupation number at clustering sites.  相似文献

Using density functional theory we perform theoretical investigations of the electronic properties of a freestanding one-dimensional organometallic vanadium-benzene wire. This system represents the limiting case of multidecker Vn(C6H6)(n+1) clusters which can be synthesized with established methods. We predict that the ground state of the wire is a 100% spin-polarized ferromagnet (half-metal). Its density of states is metallic at the Fermi energy for the minority electrons and shows a semiconductor gap for the majority electrons. We find that the half-metallic behavior is conserved up to 12% longitudinal elongation of the wire. Ab initio electron transport calculations reveal that finite size vanadium-benzene clusters coupled to ferromagnetic Ni or Co electrodes will work as nearly perfect spin filters.  相似文献

We propose a two-dimensional model of polydisperse granular mixtures with a power-law size distribution in the presence of stochastic driving. A fractal dimension D is introduced as a measurement of the inhomogeneity of the size distribution of particles. We define the global and partial granular temperatures of the multi-component mixture. By direct simulation Monte Carlo, we investigate how the inhomogeneity of the size distribution influences the dynamic properties of the mixture, focusing on the granular temperature, dissipated energy, velocity distribution, spatial clusterization, and collision time. We get the following results: a single granular temperature does not characterize a multi-component mixture and each species attains its own "granular temperature"; The velocity deviation from Gaussian distribution becomes more and more pronounced and the partial density of the assembly is more inhomogeneous with the increasing value of the fractal dimension D; The global granular temperature decreases and average dissipated energy per particle increases as the value olD augments.  相似文献
