The bounded edge-connectivity λk(G) of a connected graph G with respect to is the minimum number of edges in G whose deletion from G results in a subgraph with diameter larger than k and the edge-persistence D+(G) is defined as λd(G)(G), where d(G) is the diameter of G. This paper considers the Cartesian product G1×G2, shows λk1+k2(G1×G2)≥λk1(G1)+λk2(G2) for k1≥2 and k2≥2, and determines the exact values of D+(G) for G=Cn×Pm, Cn×Cm, Qn×Pm and Qn×Cm.  相似文献

The odd girth of a graph G gives the length of a shortest odd cycle in G. Let ƒ(k, g) denote the smallest n such that there exists a k-regular graph of order n and odd girth g. It is known that ƒ(k, g) ≥ kg/2 and that ƒ(k, g) = kg/2 if k is even. The exact values of ƒ(k, g) are also known if k = 3 or g = 5. Let xe denote the smallest even integer no less than x, δ(g) = (−1)g − 1/2, and s(k) = min {p + q | k = pq, where p and q are both positive integers}. It is proved that if k ≥ 5 and g ≥ 7 are both odd, then [formula] with the exception that ƒ(5, 7) = 20.  相似文献

Let G be an edge weighted graph with n nodes, and let A(3,G) be the average weight of a triangle in G. We show that the number of triangles with weight at most equal to A(3,G) is at least (n−2) and that this bound is sharp for all n≥7. Extensions of this result to cliques of cardinality k>3 are also discussed.  相似文献

We determine the fundamental group of a closed n-manifold of positive sectional curvature on which a torus Tk (k large) acts effectively and isometrically. Our results are: (A) If k>(n − 3)/4 and n ≥ 17, then the fundamental group π1(M) is isomorphic to the fundamental group of a spherical 3-space form. (B) If k ≥ (n/6)+1 and n≠ 11, 15, 23, then any abelian subgroup of π1(M) is cyclic. Moreover, if the Tk-fixed point set is empty, then π1(M) is isomorphic to the fundamental group of a spherical 3-space form.Mathematics Subject Classification (2000). 53-XX*Supported partially by NSF Grant DMS 0203164 and by a reach found from Beijing normal university.**Supported partially by NSFC 10371008.  相似文献

Parameterizing above Guaranteed Values: MaxSat and MaxCut   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper we investigate the parameterized complexity of the problems MaxSat and MaxCut using the framework developed by Downey and Fellows. LetGbe an arbitrary graph havingnvertices andmedges, and letfbe an arbitrary CNF formula withmclauses onnvariables. We improve Cai and Chen'sO(22ckcm) time algorithm for determining if at leastkclauses of ac-CNF formulafcan be satisfied; our algorithm runs inO(|f| + k2φk) time for arbitrary formulae and inO(cm + ckφk) time forc-CNF formulae, where φ is the golden ratio . We also give an algorithm for finding a cut of size at leastk; our algorithm runs inO(m + n + k4k) time. We then argue that the standard parameterization of these problems is unsuitable, because nontrivial situations arise only for large parameter values (km/2), in which range the fixed-parameter tractable algorithms are infeasible. A more meaningful question in the parameterized setting is to ask whether m/2 + kclauses can be satisfied, or m/2 + kedges can be placed in a cut. We show that these problems remain fixed-parameter tractable even under this parameterization. Furthermore, for up to logarithmic values of the parameter, our algorithms for these versions also run in polynomial time.  相似文献

The Lie algebra of vector fields of a smooth manifold M acts by Lie derivatives on the space of differential operators of order ≤ p on the fields of densities of degree k of M. If dim M ≥ 2 and p ≥ 3, the dimension of the space of linear equivariant maps from into is shown to be 0, 1 or 2 according to whether (k, l) belongs to 0, 1 or 2 of the lines of 2 of equations k = 0,k = − 1, k = l and k + l + 1 = 0. This answers a question of C. Duval and V. Ovsienko who have determined these spaces for p ≤ 2[2].  相似文献

A colouring of the vertices of a graph (or hypergraph) G is adapted to a given colouring of the edges of G if no edge has the same colour as both (or all) its vertices. The adaptable chromatic number of G is the smallest integer k such that each edge-colouring of G by colours 1,2,…,k admits an adapted vertex-colouring of G by the same colours 1,2,…,k. (The adaptable chromatic number is just one more than a previously investigated notion of chromatic capacity.) The adaptable chromatic number of a graph G is smaller than or equal to the ordinary chromatic number of G. While the ordinary chromatic number of all (categorical) powers Gk of G remains the same as that of G, the adaptable chromatic number of Gk may increase with k. We conjecture that for all sufficiently large k the adaptable chromatic number of Gk equals the chromatic number of G. When G is complete, we prove this conjecture with k≥4, and offer additional evidence suggesting it may hold with k≥2. We also discuss other products and propose several open problems.  相似文献

An mcovering of a graph G is a spanning subgraph of G with maximum degree at most m. In this paper, we shall show that every 3‐connected graph on a surface with Euler genus k ≥ 2 with sufficiently large representativity has a 2‐connected 7‐covering with at most 6k ? 12 vertices of degree 7. We also construct, for every surface F2 with Euler genus k ≥ 2, a 3‐connected graph G on F2 with arbitrarily large representativity each of whose 2‐connected 7‐coverings contains at least 6k ? 12 vertices of degree 7. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In [4] we constructed certain homology representations of a finite group G of type An, Bn or Cn, and showed that these representations can be used to sift out the reflection compound characters of G. In the present note, we show that for a group G of type Dn, each reflection compound character π(k), 2 k n − 2, determines a unique “obstruction” character θ(k), which occurs with positive multiplicity in every homology representation containing π(k).  相似文献

For k normal populations with unknown means μi and unknown variances σ2i, i = 1, ..., k, assume that there are some order restrictions among the means and variances, respectively, for example, simple order restrictions: μ1μ2 ≤ ... ≤ μk and σ21σ22 ≥ ... ≥ σ2k > 0. Some properties of maximum likelihood estimation of μis and σ2i are discussed and an algorithm of obtaining the maximum likelihood estimators under the order restrictions is proposed.  相似文献

The Randić index R(G) of a graph G is defined by , where d(u) is the degree of a vertex u in G and the summation extends over all edges uv of G. A conjecture about the Randić index says that for any triangle-free graph G of order n with minimum degree δk≥1, one has , where the equality holds if and only if G=Kk,nk. In this short note we give a confirmative proof for the conjecture.  相似文献

Estimating the discrepancy of the set of all arithmetic progressions in the first N natural numbers was one of the famous open problems in combinatorial discrepancy theory for a long time, successfully solved by K. Roth (lower bound) and Beck (upper bound). They proved that D(N)=minχmaxA|∑xAχ(x)|=Θ(N1/4), where the minimum is taken over all colorings χ:[N]→{−1,1} and the maximum over all arithmetic progressions in [N]={0,…,N−1}.Sumsets of k arithmetic progressions, A1++Ak, are called k-arithmetic progressions and they are important objects in additive combinatorics. We define Dk(N) as the discrepancy of the set {P∩[N]:P is a k-arithmetic progression}. The second author proved that Dk(N)=Ω(Nk/(2k+2)) and Přívětivý improved it to Ω(N1/2) for all k≥3. Since the probabilistic argument gives Dk(N)=O((NlogN)1/2) for all fixed k, the case k=2 remained the only case with a large gap between the known upper and lower bounds. We bridge this gap (up to a logarithmic factor) by proving that Dk(N)=Ω(N1/2) for all k≥2.Indeed we prove the multicolor version of this result.  相似文献

In this short note, we prove that for β<1/5 every graph G with n vertices and n2−β edges contains a subgraph G with at least cn2−2β edges such that every pair of edges in G lie together on a cycle of length at most 8. Moreover edges in G which share a vertex lie together on a cycle of length at most 6. This result is best possible up to the constant factor and settles a conjecture of Duke, Erdős, and Rödl.  相似文献

For a simple planar graph G and a positive integer k, we prove the upper bound 2(n ? 1)k + 4k(n ? 4) + 2·3k ? 2((δ + 1)k ? δk)(3n ? 6 ? m) on the sum of the kth powers of the degrees of G, where n, m, and δ are the order, the size, and the minimum degree of G, respectively. The bound is tight for all m with 0?3n ? 6 ? m≤?n/2? ? 2 and δ = 3. We also present upper bounds in terms of order, minimum degree, and maximum degree of G. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Let D be a set of positive integers. The distance graph G(Z,D) with distance set D is the graph with vertex set Z in which two vertices x,y are adjacent if and only if |xy|D. The fractional chromatic number, the chromatic number, and the circular chromatic number of G(Z,D) for various D have been extensively studied recently. In this paper, we investigate the fractional chromatic number, the chromatic number, and the circular chromatic number of the distance graphs with the distance sets of the form Dm,[k,k]={1,2,…,m}−{k,k+1,…,k}, where m, k, and k are natural numbers with mkk. In particular, we completely determine the chromatic number of G(Z,Dm,[2,k]) for arbitrary m, and k.  相似文献

We prove that if G is k-connected (with k ≥ 2), then G contains either a cycle of length 4 or a connected subgraph of order 3 whose contraction results in a k-connected graph. This immediately implies that any k-connected graph has either a cycle of length 4 or a connected subgraph of order 3 whose deletion results in a (k − 1)-connected graph.  相似文献

For a digraph G, a k-tuple twin dominating set D of G for some fixed k≥1 is a set of vertices such that every vertex is adjacent to at least k vertices in D, and also every vertex is adjacent from at least k vertices in D. If the subgraph of G induced by D is strongly connected, then D is called a connected k-tuple twin dominating set of G. In this paper, we give constructions of minimal connected k-tuple twin dominating sets for de Bruijn digraphs and Kautz digraphs.  相似文献

Given a graph G and a subgraph H of G, let rb(G,H) be the minimum number r for which any edge-coloring of G with r colors has a rainbow subgraph H. The number rb(G,H) is called the rainbow number of H with respect to G. Denote as mK2 a matching of size m and as Bn,k the set of all the k-regular bipartite graphs with bipartition (X,Y) such that X=Y=n and kn. Let k,m,n be given positive integers, where k≥3, m≥2 and n>3(m−1). We show that for every GBn,k, rb(G,mK2)=k(m−2)+2. We also determine the rainbow numbers of matchings in paths and cycles.  相似文献

Let f: be a continuous, 2π-periodic function and for each n ε let tn(f; ·) denote the trigonometric polynomial of degree n interpolating f in the points 2kπ/(2n + 1) (k = 0, ±1, …, ±n). It was shown by J. Marcinkiewicz that limn → ∞0¦f(θ) − tn(f θ)¦p dθ = 0 for every p > 0. We consider Lagrange interpolation of non-periodic functions by entire functions of exponential type τ > 0 in the points kπ/τ (k = 0, ± 1, ± 2, …) and obtain a result analogous to that of Marcinkiewicz.  相似文献
