Single‐handed helical silica nanotubes containing chiral organic self‐assemblies were prepared by using a supramolecular templating approach. After carbonization and the removal of the silica, single‐handed helical carbonaceous nanotubes that contained twisted carbonaceous nanoribbons were obtained. It is believed that the nanotubes formed as a result of the adsorption of low‐molecular‐weight gelators. The twisted nanoribbons were formed because of the carbonization of the organic self‐assemblies. The samples were characterized by using field‐emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and circular dichroism. For the samples carbonized at 900 °C for 3.0 h, a partially graphitized structure was identified. The circular dichroism (CD) spectra indicated that the twisted nanoribbons exhibited optical activity. The CD spectrum was simulated by using time‐dependent density functional theory. The results suggested that the CD signals originated from the chiral stacking of aromatic rings.  相似文献

Carbon‐based nanomaterials have been widely studied in the past decade. Three approaches have been developed for the preparation of single‐handed helical carbonaceous nanotubes. The first approach uses the carbonization of organopolymeric nanotubes, where the organic polymers are polypyrrole, 3‐aminophenol‐formaldehyde resin, and m‐diaminobenzene‐formaldehyde resin. The second approach uses the carbonization of aromatic ring‐bridged polybissilsesquioxane followed by the removal of silica. Micropores exist within the walls of the carbonaceous nanotubes. The third approach uses the carbonization of organic compounds within silica nanotubes. This hard‐templating approach drives the formation of helical carbonaceous nanotubes containing twisted carbonaceous nanoribbons. All of these helical carbonaceous nanotubes exhibit optical activity, which is believed to originate from the chiral π‐π stacking of aromatic rings. They can be used as chirality inducers, and for lithium‐ion storage.  相似文献

Nanomaterials with helical morphologies have attracted much attention owing to their potential applications as nanosprings, chirality sensors and in chiral optics. Single‐handed helical Ta2O5 nanotubes prepared through a supramolecular templating approach are described. The handedness is controlled by that of the organic self‐assemblies of chiral low‐molecular‐weight gelators (LMWGs). The chiral LMWGs self‐assemble into single‐handed twisted nanoribbons through H‐bonding, hydrophobic association, and π‐π stacking. The Ta2O5 nanotubes are formed by the adsorption and polycondensation of Ta2O5 oligomers on the surfaces and edges of the twisted organic nanoribbons followed by removal of the template. The optical activity of the nanotubes is proposed to originate from the chiral defects on the inner surfaces of the tubular structures. Single‐handed twisted LiTaO3 nanotubes can also be prepared using Ta2O5 nanotubes.  相似文献

Controlling the self‐assembly morphology of π‐conjugated block copolymer is of great interesting. Herein, amphiphilic poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐block‐poly(phenyl isocyanide)s (P3HT‐b‐PPI) copolymers composed of π‐conjugated P3HT and optically active helical PPI segments were readily prepared. Taking advantage of the crystallizable nature of P3HT and the chirality of the helical PPI segment, crystallization‐driven asymmetric self‐assembly (CDASA) of the block copolymers lead to the formation of single‐handed helical nanofibers with controlled length, narrow dispersity, and well‐defined helicity. During the self‐assembly process, the chirality of helical PPI was transferred to the supramolecular assemblies, giving the helical assemblies large optical activity. The single‐handed helical assemblies of the block copolymers exhibited interesting white‐light emission and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). The handedness and dissymmetric factor of the induced CPL can be finely tuned through the variation on the helicity and length of the helical nanofibers.  相似文献

Single‐walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) have been functionalized with poly(γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate) (PBLG) by ring‐opening polymerizations of γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamic acid‐based N‐carboxylanhydrides (NCA‐BLG) using amino‐functionalized SWCNTs (SWCNT‐NH2) as initiators. The SWCNT functionalization has been verified by FTIR spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The FTIR study reveals that surface‐attached PBLGs adopt random‐coil conformations in contrast to the physically absorbed or bulk PBLGs, which exhibit α‐helical conformations. Raman spectroscopic analysis reveals a significant alteration of the electronic structure of SWCNTs as a result of PBLG functionalization. The PBLG‐functionalized SWCNTs (SWCNT‐PBLG) exhibit enhanced solubility in DMF. Stable DMF solutions of SWCNT‐PBLG/PBLG with a maximum SWCNTs concentration of 259 mg L?1 can be readily obtained. SWCNT‐PBLG/PBLG solid composites have been characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, wide/small‐angle X‐ray scattering (W/SAXS), scanning electron microscopy, and polarized optical microscopy for their thermal or morphological properties. Microfibers containing SWCNT‐PBLG and PBLG can also be prepared via electrospinning. WAXS characterization reveals that SWCNTs are evenly distributed among PBLG rods in solution and in the solid state where PBLGs form a short‐range nematic phase interspersed with amorphous domains. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Self‐organization of organic molecules through weak noncovalent forces such as CH/π interactions and creation of large hierarchical supramolecular structures in the solid state are at the very early stage of research. The present study reports direct evidence for CH/π interaction driven hierarchical self‐assembly in π‐conjugated molecules based on custom‐designed oligophenylenevinylenes (OPVs) whose structures differ only in the number of carbon atoms in the tails. Single‐crystal X‐ray structures were resolved for these OPV synthons and the existence of long‐range multiple‐arm CH/π interactions was revealed in the crystal lattices. Alignment of these π‐conjugated OPVs in the solid state was found to be crucial in producing either right‐handed herringbone packing in the crystal or left‐handed helices in the liquid‐crystalline mesophase. Pitch‐ and roll‐angle displacements of OPV chromophores were determined to trace the effect of the molecular inclination on the ordering of hierarchical structures. Furthermore, circular dichroism studies on the OPVs were carried out in the aligned helical structures to prove the existence of molecular self‐assembly. Thus, the present strategy opens up new approaches in supramolecular chemistry based on weak CH/π hydrogen bonding, more specifically in π‐conjugated materials.  相似文献

Heteropentapeptides containing the α‐ethylated α,α‐disubstituted amino acid (S)‐butylethylglycine and four dimethylglycine residues, i.e., CF3CO‐[(S)‐Beg]‐(Aib)4‐OEt ( 4 ) and CF3CO‐(Aib)2‐[(S)‐Beg]‐(Aib)2‐OEt ( 7 ), were synthesized by conventional solution methods. In the solid state, the preferred conformation of 4 was shown to be both a right‐handed (P) and a left‐handed (M) 310‐helical structure, and that of 7 was a right‐handed (P) 310‐helical structure. IR, CD, and 1H‐NMR spectra revealed that the dominant conformation of both 4 and 7 in solution was the 310‐helical structure. These conformations were also supported by molecular‐mechanics calculations.  相似文献

A hydrogen‐bonded helical columnar liquid crystal was synthesized, in which the helical structure is induced by a centered triphenylene derivative bearing chiral side‐chains. The triphenylene derivative, 2,6,10‐tris(carboxymethoxy)‐3,7,11‐tris((S)‐(‐)‐2‐methyl‐1‐butanoxy)triphenylene ( TPC4(S) ), and a dendric amphiphile, 3,5‐bis‐(3,4‐bis‐dodecyloxy‐benzyloxy)‐N‐pyridine‐4‐yl‐benzamide ( DenC12 ), were mixed in a 1:3 ratio to obtain a complex, TPC4(S)‐DenC12 . Analyses by 1H‐NMR spectroscopy, diffusion ordered spectroscopy (DOSY), CD spectroscopy, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, polarized optical microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and X‐ray diffractometry revealed that TPC4(S)‐DenC12 self‐assembles to form helical columnar stacks in solution and a helical columnar liquid crystal in bulk. The hydrogen bonding between TPC4(S) and DenC12 is essential for the helical columnar organization, and the preference for a one‐handed helical conformation is likely derived from the steric interaction between the chiral side‐chains and the dendric amphiphiles in the packing of the hydrogen‐bonded columnar assemblies. Higher‐order super‐helical structures derived from biological molecules are known to evolve through opposite coiling of the initial helical fibers, as seen in collagen protein. A similar phenomenon is observed in a π‐system self‐assembly of chiral oligo(phenyleneethylene) derivatives (S )‐ 1 and (R )‐ 1 that explains the unequal formation of both left‐ and right‐handed helices from molecule having a specific chiral center. Concentration‐ and temperature‐dependent circular dichroism (CD) and UV/Vis spectroscopic studies revealed that the initial formation of helical aggregates is in accordance with the molecular chirality. At the next level of hierarchical self‐assembly, coiling of the fibers occurs with opposite handedness, thereby superseding the command of the molecular chirality. This was confirmed by solvent‐dependent decoiling of super‐helical structures and concentration‐dependent morphological analysis.  相似文献

It is challenging to prepare co‐organized nanotube systems with controlled nanoscale chirality in an aqueous liquid flow field. Such systems are responsive to a bubbled external gas. A liquid vortex induced by bubbling carbon dioxide (CO2) gas was used to stimulate the formation of nanotubes with controlled chirality; two kinds of achiral cationic building blocks were co‐assembled in aqueous solution. CO2‐triggered nanotube formation occurs by formation of metastable intermediate structures (short helical ribbons and short tubules) and by transition from short tubules to long tubules in response to chirality matching self‐assembly. Interestingly, the chirality sign of these assemblies can be selected for by the circulation direction of the CO2 bubble‐induced vortex during the co‐assembly process.  相似文献

Chiral cyclic α,α‐disubstituted amino acids, (3S,4S)‐ and (3R,4R)‐1‐amino‐3,4‐(dialkoxy)cyclopentanecarboxylic acids ((S,S)‐ and (R,R)‐Ac5cdOR; R: methyl, methoxymethyl), were synthesized from dimethyl L ‐(+)‐ or D ‐(?)‐tartrate, and their homochiral homoligomers were prepared by solution‐phase methods. The preferred secondary structure of the (S,S)‐Ac5cdOMe hexapeptide was a left‐handed (M) 310 helix, whereas those of the (S,S)‐Ac5cdOMe octa‐ and decapeptides were left‐handed (M) α helices, both in solution and in the crystal state. The octa‐ and decapeptides can be well dissolved in pure water and are more α helical in water than in 2,2,2‐trifluoroethanol solution. The left‐handed (M) helices of the (S,S)‐Ac5cdOMe homochiral homopeptides were exclusively controlled by the side‐chain chiral centers, because the cyclic amino acid (S,S)‐Ac5cdOMe does not have an α‐carbon chiral center but has side‐chain γ‐carbon chiral centers.  相似文献

The self‐assembly of poly(ethylidene acetate) (st‐PEA) into van der Waals‐stabilized liquid‐crystalline (LC) aggregates is reported. The LC behavior of these materials is unexpected, and unusual for flexible sp3‐carbon backbone polymers. Although the dense packing of polar ester functionalities along the carbon backbone of st‐PEA could perhaps be expected to lead directly to rigid‐rod behavior, molecular modeling reveals that individual st‐PEA chains are actually highly flexible and should not reveal rigid‐rod induced LC behavior. Nonetheless, st‐PEA clearly reveals LC behavior, both in solution and in the melt over a broad elevated temperature range. A combined set of experimental measurements, supported by MM/MD studies, suggests that the observed LC behavior is due to self‐aggregation of st‐PEA into higher‐order aggregates. According to MM/MD modeling st‐PEA single helices adopt a flexible helical structure with a preferred transgauche synsynantianti orientation. Unexpectedly, similar modeling experiments suggest that three of these helices can self‐assemble into triple‐helical aggregates. Higher‐order assemblies were not observed in the MM/MD simulations, suggesting that the triple helix is the most stable aggregate configuration. DLS data confirmed the aggregation of st‐PEA into higher‐order structures, and suggest the formation of rod‐like particles. The dimensions derived from these light‐scattering experiments correspond with st‐PEA triple‐helix formation. Langmuir–Blodgett surface pressure–area isotherms also point to the formation of rod‐like st‐PEA aggregates with similar dimensions as st‐PEA triple helixes. Upon increasing the st‐PEA concentration, the viscosity of the polymer solution increases strongly, and at concentrations above 20 wt % st‐PEA forms an organogel. STM on this gel reveals the formation of helical aggregates on the graphite surface–solution interface with shapes and dimensions matching st‐PEA triple helices, in good agreement with the structures proposed by molecular modeling. X‐ray diffraction, WAXS, SAXS and solid state NMR spectroscopy studies suggest that st‐PEA triple helices are also present in the solid state, up to temperatures well above the melting point of st‐PEA. Formation of higher‐order aggregates explains the observed LC behavior of st‐PEA, emphasizing the importance of the “tertiary structure” of synthetic polymers on their material properties.  相似文献

Novel macrocyclic receptors that bind electron‐donor aromatic substrates through π‐stacking donor–acceptor interactions are obtained by cycloimidisation of an amine‐functionalised aryl ether sulfone with pyromellitic and 1,4,5,8‐naphthalenetetracarboxylic dianhydrides. These macrocycles can form complexes with a wide variety of π‐donor substrates, including tetrathiafulvalene, naphthalene, anthracene, pyrene, perylene and functional derivatives of these polycyclic hydrocarbons. The resulting supramolecular assemblies range from simple 1:1 complexes to [2]‐ and [3]pseudorotaxanes and even (as a result of crystallographic disorder) an apparent polyrotaxane. Direct five‐component self‐assembly of a metal‐centred [3]pseudorotaxane is also observed on complexation of a macrocyclic ether imide with 8‐hydroxyquinoline in the presence of palladium(II) ions. Binding studies in solution were carried out by using 1H NMR and UV/Vis spectroscopy, and the stoichiometries of binding were confirmed by Job plots based on the charge‐transfer absorption bands. The highest association constants were found for strong π‐donor guests with large surface areas, notably perylene and 1‐hydroxypyrene, for which Ka values of 1.4×103 and 2.3×103 M ?1, respectively, were found. Single‐crystal X‐ray analyses of the receptors and their derived complexes reveal large induced‐fit distortions of the macrocyclic frameworks as a result of complexation. These structures provide compelling evidence for the existence of strong attractive forces between the electronically complementary aromatic π systems of host and guest.  相似文献

The asymmetric induction leading to a one‐handed helix was investigated in the anionic and radical copolymerization of triphenylmethyl methacrylate (TrMA) and (S)‐2‐isopropenyl‐4‐phenyl‐2‐oxazoline ((S)‐IPO), and highly isotactic copolymers with a reasonable optical activity were obtained. In the anionic copolymerization, the optical activity of the obtained copolymers depended on the polarity of solvents, and a highly optically active copolymer was produced in the copolymerization in toluene. The chiral oxazoline monomer functioned not only as a comonomer but also as a chiral ligand to endow the polymer with large negative optical rotation in the copolymerization with TrMA. The copolymers with small positive optical rotation were obtained in THF, indicating that IPO unit may work only as the chiral monomer that dictates the helical sense via copolymerization with TrMA. The isotacticity of the obtained copolymers depended on the contents of TrMA units in the copolymers, but was almost independent of the solvent for copolymerization. In the radical copolymerization, the obtained copolymers exhibited small optical activities. It seemed that the chiral monomer cannot induce one‐handed helical structure of TrMA sequences even if the sequences probably have a high isotacticity. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. The controlled secondary self‐assembly of amphiphilic molecules in solution is theoretically and practically significant in amphiphilic molecular applications. An amphiphilic β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD) dimer, namely LA‐(CD)2, has been synthesized, wherein one lithocholic acid (LA) unit is hydrophobic and two β‐CD units are hydrophilic. In an aqueous solution at room temperature, LA‐(CD)2 self‐assembles into spherical micelles without ultrasonication. The primary micelles dissociates and then secondarily form self‐assemblies with branched structures under ultrasonication. The branched aggregates revert to primary micelles at high temperature. The ultrasound‐driven secondary self‐assembly is confirmed by transmission electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and Cu2+‐responsive experiments. Furthermore, 2D NOESY NMR and UV/Vis spectroscopy results indicate that the formation of the primary micelles is driven by hydrophilic–hydrophobic interactions, whereas host–guest interactions promote the formation of the secondary assemblies. Additionally, ultrasonication is shown to be able to effectively destroy the primary hydrophilic–hydrophobic balances while enhancing the host–guest interaction between the LA and β‐CD moieties at room temperature.  相似文献

The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is of significant importance in the development of fuel cells. Now, cobalt–nitrogen‐doped chiral carbonaceous nanotubes (l/d ‐CCNTs‐Co) are presented as efficient electrocatalysts for ORR. The chiral template, N‐stearyl‐l/d ‐glutamic acid, induces the self‐assembly of well‐arranged polypyrrole and the formation of ordered graphene carbon with helical structures at the molecular level after the pyrolysis process. Co was subsequently introduced through the post‐synthesis method. The obtained l/d ‐CCNTs‐Co exhibits superior ORR performance, including long‐term stability and better methanol tolerance compared to achiral Co‐doped carbon materials and commercial Pt/C. DFT calculations demonstrate that the charges on the twisted surface of l/d ‐CCNTs are widely separated; as a result the Co atoms are more exposed on the chiral CCNTs. This work gives us a new understanding of the effects of helical structures in electrocatalysis.  相似文献

The development of synthetic helical structures undergoing stimuli‐responsive chirality transformations is important for an understanding of the role of chirality in natural systems. However, controlling supramolecular chirality in entropically driven assemblies in aqueous media is challenging. To develop stimuli‐responsive assemblies, we designed and synthesized pyrazine derivatives with l ‐alanine groups as chiral building blocks. These systems undergo self‐assembly in aqueous media to generate helical fibers and the embedded alanine groups transfer their chirality to the assembled structures. Furthermore, these helical fibers undergo a Ni2+‐induced chirality transformation. The study demonstrates the role of intermolecular hydrogen bonding, π–π stacking, and the hydrophobic effect in the Ni2+‐mediated transition of helical fibers to supercoiled helical ensembles which mimic the formation of superstructures in biopolymers.  相似文献

A novel two‐dimensional (2D) ZnII coordination framework, poly[[μ‐1,3‐bis(2‐methyl‐1H‐imidazol‐1‐yl)benzene](μ‐5‐nitrobenzene‐1,3‐dicarboxylato)zinc(II)], [Zn(C8H3NO6)(C14H14N4)]n or [Zn(NO2‐BDC)(1,3‐BMIB)]n [1,3‐BMIB is 1,3‐bis(2‐methyl‐1H‐imidazol‐1‐yl)benzene and NO2‐H2BDC is 5‐nitrobenzene‐1,3‐dicarboxylic acid], has been prepared and characterized by IR, elemental analysis, thermal analysis and single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. Single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis revealed that the compound is a new 2D polymer with a 63 topology parallel to the (10) crystal planes based on left‐handed helices, right‐handed helical NO2‐BDC–Zn chains and [Zn2(1,3‐BMIB)2]n clusters. In the crystal, adjacent layers are further connected by C—H…O hydrogen bonds, C—H…π interactions, C—O…π interactions and N—O…π interactions to form a three‐dimensional structure in the solid state. In addition, the compound exhibits strong fluorescence emissions in the solid state at room temperature.  相似文献

Understanding the roles of various parameters in orchestrating the preferential chiral molecular organization in supramolecular self‐assembly processes is of great significance in designing novel molecular functional systems. Cyclic dipeptide (CDP) chiral auxiliary‐functionalized naphthalenediimides (NCDPs 1 – 6 ) have been prepared and their chiral self‐assembly properties have been investigated. Detailed photophysical and circular dichroism (CD) studies have unveiled the crucial role of the solvent in the chiral aggregation of these NCDPs. NCDPs 1 – 3 form supramolecular helical assemblies and exhibit remarkable chiroptical switching behaviour (M‐ to P‐type) depending on the solvent composition of HFIP and DMSO. The strong influence of solvent composition on the supramolecular chirality of NCDPs has been further corroborated by concentration and solid‐state thin‐film CD studies. The chiroptical switching between supramolecular aggregates of opposite helicity (M and P) has been found to be reversible, and can be achieved through cycles of solvent removal and redissolution in solvent mixtures of specific composition. The control molecular systems (NCDPs 4 – 6 ), with an achiral or D ‐isomer second amino acid in the CDP auxiliary, did not show chiral aggregation properties. The substantial roles of hydrogen bonding and π–π interactions in the assembly of the NCDPs have been validated through nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), photophysical, and computational studies. Quantum chemical calculations at the ab initio, semiempirical, and density functional theory levels have been performed on model systems to understand the stabilities of the right (P‐) and left (M‐) handed helical supramolecular assemblies and the nature of the intermolecular interactions. This study emphasizes the role of CDP chiral auxiliaries on the solvent‐induced helical assembly and reversible chiroptical switching of naphthalenediimides.  相似文献
